They repair clocks, they don't make clock here. So, when I dropped my 100 year heirloom off, he said he would look at it. A couple parts need to be machined so he was really helpful in showing me what was needed. I adapted a couple parts he gave me and brought it back. I think it will last another 100 years. I appreciate that he know his limitations so the job was done well. It is a mature industry. Hard to find someone who can actually repair this kind of thing. Nice to find a specialist. I've been to The Clock Shop a few times over the years, whenever I've need a clock repair. I stopped in today needing a part for my vintage clock. The woman at the window stopped what she was doing, searched her inventory for what the part, and fixed my clock FREE OF CHARGE! She even refused when I offered a $5.00 tip!! We have been trying and trying to get a hold of this shop to find out what the status is of our 140 year old clock that is there to be cleaned that we dropped off 4 1/2 months ago. A month ago, the repair person said it would be ready in 2 weeks. We actually drove there today (8/15)and the sign said open, but the shades were drawn and the door locked. I'm wondering if we should get the Sheriff involved. read more

I usually use Watchworks on SW Ash, but a few weeks ago we finally broke to bring in our four watches for battery changes at a neighborhood shop. Since we're working at home, running wristwatches didn't seem like a priority but all of our batteries finally died, so we thought we'd take care of this and support a neighborhood business during COVID. $25 a pop for each new battery! We didn't know how much it would cost when we dropped them off to the man outside of the shop--new curbside procedures--and assumed, foolishly it now seems, that it would be within reason to all the other times over our nearly fifty years that we have had batteries changed in watches. So, $100 for a new battery in two cheap Timex Ironmans, an old dept. store wristwatch with sentimental value, and a MVMT. Not high-end stuff here. We hoped to get them quickly but were told they had to be sanitized first so it would be days. Ok, it's a new world, sure. When we did get the watches, my sentimental piece still doesn't run, so I now need to hop back over there to have it dealt with again. It felt like a cash grab when we paid, and now that I see other reviews, it feels even more like a cash grab. Very much over trying to support some local businesses when doing business with them is such a hassle. read more

I have an old wall clock that I attempted to repair. After my repair the clock would run fine for several months and then stop. I would take it apart clean and oil it again, and it would run fine for a while. After a year of this I gave up and took it to the clock shop. He had it for about two months and charged me 260.00. It has now been over six months since he repaired it and it has been running perfect. I almost forget about it it is so trouble free now. He is not cheap, but he did fix it right. It's a funny looking shop from the outside but the work done inside is high quality. read more

First I brought in an older German CooCoo Clock, they fixed it, taught me a lot about it origins and maintenance, fixed it again for free when I got the gears stuck. They were great! Then I brought in an old timex to get the battery replaced, the watch was too old and it still didn't work, but they offered me a refund. That is pretty generous. Now they are fixing an older 1930's watch. Can't wait to pick it up. These folks are skilled and very nice. I too have found their hours are a bit quirky, but I am ok with that. I have found that if I call and tell them I am coming, they are there. They are also willing to work far after their posted hours if they are there. I dropped by on a Saturday at 4 (they close at 3) and they were completely willing to help me. read more

Can't believe I did not know about this place already. I went there for the first time to have batteries put in two watches that had sentimental value. They did the job quickly while I waited and charged a very fair price. They had other work ahead of it in their shop but offered to fit me in if leaving it would be a problem for me! Lack of professional respect for their customers who are attempting to pick up their clocks. I made advance arrangements to pick up two clocks that had been in repair for nearly three months time and the repairs were already paid. I arrived at 4:20 on the day I had scheduled in advance with the owner, John, only to find the shop closed when it was to be open until 5pm. The week before I also tried to pick up the clocks and the shop was closed at 1pm. I did not have my clocks for my Lunar Celebration while the Clock Shop owners took off early to close. They had my number, but did not call me, knowing I was coming a long way from Downtown Portland on my second attempt to get the clocks. This lack of customer service is not only unprofessional, but very, very unkind. read more

These people were great. A wonderful family-owned business that helped me fix my wall clock. They were super friendly and had my movement replaced for $35, and was done on the spot. I asked them to clean the glass in the clock and they cleaned it without an additional charge. Even though they could not find the exact hour and minute hands I was looking for, I was impressed by the lengths they went to try and get exactly what I wanted. I do not know much about clocks but I can tell a shop built with love for what they do. I also appreciate a business with really friendly people. Accidentally broke the torque on my clock, Took it here it was repaired for a reasonable price. They knew immediately what it was, had the part in stock and fixed it. Would recommend. Getting some one on the phone was a tiny prob possible due to the fact that it was the holiday season. Dropped off my watch and requested a call back to get a quote on the price for repair. Didn't receive a single call back in the six weeks my watch was in their hands. Furthermore, when I picked it up they didn't do any of the repairs that I had requested and essentially just replaced the watchband and the pin to hold it. To do that, they charged $75. The day after pick up, I am wearing my watch and it is literally in the same condition, if not worse, then when I picked it up. Very unsatisfied. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. It really is unfortunate as I try and support local business. read more

I stopped by the clock shop on Stark st. this afternoon to see if they can work on my mom's wall clock. I assumed I would have to drop it off and wait a week or so. But, I was pleasantly surprised. We dropped off an 1800s ladies pocket watch that has been in my husband's family for four generations and are anxious to see it cleaned up and running again. Definitely recommend but do call first. My wall clock quit working, and as I was researching repair places, I came across this shop. After reading some of the Yelp reviews, I was a little worried about taking my clock here. My fears were unfounded. I called ahead to make sure that the shop was open, and took my clock in. The owner diagnosed the problem quickly, had the part, fixed my clock, and I was back out the door in less than 10 minutes. This is a small, family-owned business, so it's necessary to call in advance. It's a great repair place, and they carry a nice assortment of all types of clocks. Highly recommended! read more

My wife and I bought a Howard Miller wall clock in a second-hand store at the coast to mount in the boat; which we live aboard. Recently it stopped working, so I took it to The Clock Shop to see if they could repair it. The owner spent nearly 30 minutes working on it. When he finished, he refused to take my money, saying he was happy to help! I also brought them my Pulsar watch to get a new battery. They replaced it while I waited. I had a clock that had more of a sentimental value than anything else. The metal hands on the clock had been bent in such a way that they broke off. I took my clock in to John and he replaced the hands at a minimal charge. The service was prompt and friendly. I wouldn't look anywhere else for clock/watch repair. read more

I took an antique Ansonia Huntress clock in for repair. The owner John did a good job with customer service. He seems knowledgable about many styles of clocks. My clock was repaired just fine. John also went the extra mile and took some photos of the inner workings of the clock. I would recommend the Clock Shop for repairs. I took my pocket watch in for repair. I was told it was a good watch and they could repair it. When it was returned it was way too hard to wind. They told me it was fine. I pointed out I had the watch for 40 years and it never was that hard to wind. They agreed to try and fix it and after their two attempts it was only marginally improved. Two days later, the main spring broke. I took my watch to a reputable watch repair shop in Beaverton and was told my watch had been assembled incorrectly (one part was installed upside down, which resulted in the hard winding) and showed "very poor workmanship." I was also told my watch was not of sufficient quality to repair and that the Clock Shop repair, even if done correctly, would not have fixed the problem. The case was falling apart and could not be repaired and the Clock Shop had misled me to believe that they could repair it. Fortunately, I contacted my credit card company and my charge was refunded to me. read more
