Sadly, it had stopped working a number of years ago, even with several attempts to get it repaired. As our anniversary is approaching, we thought we would try again. I found the Clock Specialist via a Yelp review, and we are so glad we did. The owner, Jim, went above and beyond in his search for new works for our clock. Sadly, it was not to be, but an electric alternative was installed. It now works beautifully. Jim was also the epitome of politeness, thoroughness, professionalism. We couldn't be happier.

When we first started talking and attempt to set up an appointment for a time. I was told any time after 11am. So I showed up around 230ish and no one was home. So he tells me he on a service call and his wife will be back in 20 min. Or so. So after coming back I met his wife to do a drop off. She told me that her husband will contact me with in a week or maybe less. Well a week went by and no answer. So I called the guy wanting to see where he was at with the clock. He tells me he on a service call and he'll call me back in 2 hours. Two hours went by and no call back so I waited. Another week goes by without a peep from him (now 2 weeks in) so I call again to see were he at with the clock if he even look at it yet. he tells me that he busy on another service call and he'll have the estimate the next day around 6-7 pm I said okay and waited. And of course the next day came and no respond. Yet again another week goes by without a peep from him. So three week has gone by and I had gotten no answer from him if looked at the clock, on what's wrong with the clock, what it will take to fix the clock, how much it would cost, and how long it will take. Nothing at this point, I still haven't even met this guy yet either. I get it if he's busy but communicate that with the person. Maybe actually be there to meet the person at the beginning And don't tell people you're going to do something and not communicate. You made me feel like I just gave a con man my property. The only good thing was I was able to get my clock back without a problem.

I took the clock to Michael, and he suggested a $120 oil and clean, which is quite reasonable if you know the price of maintenance on clocks. He repaired and cleaned the movement, but also cleaned up the exterior. It looks new! When I went to pick up the clock, he even brought it to the car for me and provided towels to keep it from getting scratched. This is a terrific family run business, and I will be back! In addition, his shop is clean and organized with many clocks on display! Great place!

I was able to take it home immediately and he charged me a grand total of $8 for that very kind service. The other was a much more modern clock, one of four that I owned. It actually needed Far more work. Again, he explained its history. I received a call that I could pick up the second clock and a young gentleman whose family has been involved in the business met me with charm and graciousness. Young guy with tattoos is also very cool and fair. This is a nice place and, if you live in Beloit, you're lucky to have it so close to Beloit. Wait until the Beloit casino gets here. These guys might be the next Pawn Stars! . It's a pretty classy place, although they didn't want my 1875 book by Louisa May Alcott, Eight Cousins. So instead I remembered to pawn my electric guitar, but they closed early so I drove to EZ Pawn in Rockford. Not a big market for antique books, even if it's 150 years old but guitars saved me and I already picked it up and have it back.
