Great food! We were served by Ian, who was very attentive to our needs; made sure all was good, refilled waters, etc. We ordered the resentment sandwich, lights toasted. Very grid and tasty! We ordered the green chile burner, with all the squces on the side. The bun was lightly toasted, and I enjoyed the little crunch on my first bite! For sides, i had the potato skins, with ranch dipping sauces. All very very tasty and great service. This was our first time here, and we will be back. The food is very well seasoned and the blends of unique flavors always happen to be a perfect combination of sweet, savory or salty ingredients. I would definitely recommend the bunker burger. The meat is well seasoned and goes with the Gruyère cheese to make a delicious savory taste. The bunker sauce and caramelized onions add the perfect hint of sweetness to the savory dish as it does not overpower and is the perfect addition. They have a menu featuring delicious comfort food, in addition to a great selection of local wines and craft beers. The restaurant is train themed with a cute antiquey feel. In terms of food, everything is DELICIOUS! The Bunker Burger comes with crispy cheese, and their Firebox Chicken Sandwich is among the best spicy chicken sandwiches I've had! I was surprised to see shepherd's pie on the menu, since I don't see that often in San Diego but they knocked it out of the park! The bunker burger and the monster grilled cheese were both VERY delicious. I was impressed by the menu, other than the heartbreak that they do not serve French Fries. Our server confirmed that they do not have a frier and they are not setup to have one put in. Kettle chips on the side is something...but c'est la vie! Great Food but the service was below par. We walked in and went up the stairs only to be told to go back to the lobby to wait. There were a total of 4 tables with customers and I had to go back up after 10 minutes and ask what was happening only to have to head back to the lobby to wait again. We finally get seated and I made a drink and appetizer order only to again just sit there and wait while the waitress did everything but wait on us and take our meal order. After another 15 minutes we went up to pay for the sodas and let them know we would dine elsewhere. very disappointed. I really like the coal bunker but the service is in need for improvement. If there are issues or you may even be understaffed, at least verbalize it to your customer so they understand what's going on and not thinking your just ignoring them. read more

The wife and I came here on a whim. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and chill on. Thursday afternoon. Ian was our server and he was very nice and informative. We had the tri tip sandwich and the BBQ bacon hotdog. The tri tip was very tender. The hotdog was savory and was grilled, which is always a plus. The pickles that came on the side had a tinge of sweetness, sour, and spiciness to it. The pickle appeared to be homemade. Would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. read more

I kinda feel like those individuals don't know what good food is if it fell on their laps. Well, TCB food fell on our laps and we fell in love! We have tried almost everything on their menu...but we have our favorite items! First of all, order the firebox chicken sandwich...typically on Texas toast but we request it in brioche and recently switching to keto I go lettuce wrap! They are very accommodating here at TCB...we also like the marinated portobello mushroom sandwich, the Mac and cheese, the monster grilled cheese and their variety of sides like the fried potato cakes, zucchini noodles, side order of Mac n cheese and to finish off the night we get the lemon cheesecake! We recently visited Fallbrook as we were checking the progress on our new home being built. We were looking up restaurants that are dog friendly and this little hidden gem popped up. The waitress was really nice and recommended a local Chardonnay that was really tasty. It was only $15 for the bottle also which was a great deal. We started off with the Queso dip which was really tasty and quite large. We then shared the Tuscan chicken and shepherds pie. All in all the outdoor area and experience was really good. My husband chose Coal Bunker for a little dinner date without the kids. No one greeted us upon arrival, but no biggie. I ordered a beer. Blonde waitress brought my beer but no waters. Had to ask for a water for my husband or he wouldn't have had a drink. Never received one for myself and husband never had a refill. Eventually, we stopped the brunette waitress to ask for water but it never came. She did apologize and I could see she was working hard. Blonde waitress never came back to our table after we ordered til we had asked for the check. Food took a while to come out. Burger was good! Grilled cheese was yummy, and you get 2, but I'd ask for more pickles next time. Chips taste like something you'd buy at the store, honestly. My husband & I dined at Coal Bunker tonight and had fantastic hamburgers! We both loved them. But, you need to serve something with the burger! Maybe some mac salad or even a handful of potato chips. We were told by server, "there are sides on the back of the menu." Mac n' Cheese, Sautéed Broccoli and Rice Pilaf aren't appropriate sides for burgers. If you're in Fallbrook don't pass on the Coal Bunker. At first it feels a little unsettling, walking into what seems to be an empty hotel lobby but don't let that stop you. Keep going upstairs and you will find the coolest looking barroom/barn old timey antique store looking dining room. Then you will notice there are no fries offered even though sandwiches, hotdogs and burgers seem to be their thing. That's because they don't have a fryer for some reason. Don't let this put you off, they offer something called crispy potatoes... choose them, it's worth the up charge. That's not true.. it's not worth the up charge, they should be included. But that's my only complaint. The super nice and friendly waitress did an amazing job of answering all of our questions. I had the hot pastrami sandwich and it was awesome!! If you're in Fallbrook and looking for a bite to eat, give The Coal Bunker a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

On my last visit I ordered the Blues burger, and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had, and I'm 77! The bun was freshly baked, not from a package. The meat was also fresh and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The sauteed mushrooms & onion, gorgonzola cheese, and delicious Bunker sauce made the burger a juicy, scrumptious mess! Others in my group had the shepherd's pie, the mac & cheese, the Mediterranean burger, the Bunker burger, the pressed chicken melt, and the pressed caprese. All excellent. The Bunker Burger is probably one of the best burgers I've ever tried. The bread was so fresh it seemed like it just came out of the oven. The burger was prepared a perfect medium rare. The grilled cheese and bacon added a little crunch to really wrap up the whole experience. Not sure what type of aioli it had, but it complemented the flavors really well. I enjoyed the 951 Blonde from Garage Brewery with it and it matched perfectly. Customer service was great. Family owned business. Cute place, definitely plan on coming back.
