I've been to their Dupont Circle location several times and decided it's finally time I visit this location too. This location has more space to sit and enjoy your coffee inside the shop or outside in the sunshine. TCB has the best house blend espresso! So smooth and tasty, unlike other espressos that have more acidity to them. Can't go wrong with any of their drinks. My default is their cappuccino, but there's also something so comforting about their latte and mocha both hot or iced! Rating 4-stars instead of 5 because service could've been better. Really liked the espresso here! If you're like me, always needing a bunch of caffeine but also want it to taste good then their signature espresso, the Honey Badger, is for you! It's 4 shots of espresso, a little half and half, some honey all shaken together with ice. It's small but potent!! After coming here for the first time three years ago, moving into a city with more coffee options than one can handle, my go to is still the coffee bar. The staff is always friendly and the drinks are always so great. My summer favorite is the americola, refreshing and will get your caffeine kick. I love checking out new coffee places, so when I read this place opened in one of my favorite neighborhoods, I was excited. The Coffee Bar is cute and comfy, and actually inviting if you want to stay a while, due to a couches, chairs and tables, and seats at the bar. There's plenty of natural light (though some screens would be appreciated) and the ceiling is high. Bathroom is warm and clean. The service was super friendly. The owner was there and she seemed so excited about her place - she couldn't stop smiling. I didn't get to talk to her or the other barista, as I was there to work, but I definitely felt welcome. While I did not eat, I did have a soy mocha latte (they also have vanilla syrup, but no caramel or hazelnut). Stopped by for the first time today. This is a true neighborhood coffee place, located on a quiet street corner. First, they do coffee right. They offer coffee pour overs with your choice of some great roasters, including Ceremony Coffee from Annapolis. Dante made my Columbian pour over and it was perfect. He knew how to handle the Hario V60 Buono Kettle. Second, the service is friendly. Dante was neighborly and introduced himself with a smile and a handshake. Third, food offerings are limited to pastries from what I could tell, but they are just starting. I had an apple walnut muffin, which was delicious. Food is not important to me in a coffee shop, but more of a bonus. Finally, the place offers some decent seating with free WiFi. They appear to have the space outside for seating, but they just opened and it is December so it might come in the spring. Overall, this is a welcomed addition to the area. Sorry Coffee Bar, but your staff are neither pleasant nor are they attentive. There were barely any people when we were there and getting serviced seemed to be a hassle to the staff on shift. The party that came in after us were also serviced rudely (are you all unhappy for patronage??) - baffling. The place is dirty and not well-kept. We saw the staff wipe a wet cup with a dirty rag that was just used to wipe a countertop a mere few minutes prior - not acceptable! Just no! I understand that the places tries to be hyperlocal and maintain their regular clientele, but at this rate you won't be getting new ones, at least not ours nor our friends (and we were four that day) who will not be visiting again. read more

Cool local coffee shop with some really solid coffee and relaxing atmosphere. It can get super crowded so there may not be much space to sit and chill. But when it's quite, it's easy to kick back and read. Also great place to meet a friend. I haven't tried their drop coffee, only a few pour overs but I'm sure it's good too. I have to say though that the decor here is perhaps a bit too aggressively hipster. It works well but at some points it's seems a bit much. From the old furniture to the scattered bathroom floor tiles? on the walls to the slanted artwork where the painting is the wall to the stacks of magazines and papers no one probably touches, etc. Again it works, but I think of all the nearby coffee shops, this is most out there. read more

Coffee Bar is my go-to coffee place. They do their pour-overs right, and have a good assortment of them as well. They also can whip up sweet concoctions with their espressos, including delicious mochas and dirty chai tea lattes (although I'm impartial to plain chai tea lattes). There's lots of space to cozy up to a neighbor and get your work on, but it's also a quite popular cafe, so good luck if you're trying to grab multiple seats together. Usually it's no problem getting a single seat, but two is hard and three is impossible (unless you come on a weekday, and even that is not a guarantee). They do have free wifi (with a password--ask the barista) and electric plugs. Located in a quiet residential area between Logan circle and U Street, this is a great place to go for a really good cup of Joe (including their iced coffee) and crank out some work or catch up with your girlfriends! read more

You will care about the honey badger. My buddy has good story about this place. He was wandering around Shaw one time (possibly drunk) and totally lost. He only remembered that he found a coffee shop, randomly next to a school, and that he needed coffee. After imbibing and caffeinating, he ended up back home. He doesn't think he even got directions. Such is the power of the coffee bar!!! Or at least the honey badger. This delicious drink is made with 4 shots of espresso, honey, half and half, and foamed milk. Even if you don't like espresso shots, you should try this. It's got a great flavor, just the right amount of sweetness and cream, and packs a major punch. While the caffeine flows into your veins, you'll enjoy the decors here. I posted a picture of their menu chalkboard. That pretty much summarizes the feel of this place. So give the coffee bar a try. This is the second location for the popular outlet on S Street. We stopped by to give this lace a try. The staff, like the other location, is super friendly and welcoming. There was a long line of people wanting to try their coffee and the staff took care of them quite efficiently without treating it like an assembly line. I ordered the pour over and on tap today was the Mexico flavor. The coffee making process is also fun to watch - with the grinding and the pour and the steep - sorry, I am a sucker for well made coffee. It was ready after a few minutes of wait time for the steeping process (or pour process, whatever it is called). But right away I noticed a few things (that sets the coffee drink apart) - No acidic after taste of the conventional brew method - No burnt coffee taste for using super hot water - I could smell the fruity/earthy flavors that accompanies the beans and are part of the beans much like any varietal of wine! It was hard for me to wait for the drink to cool down to my preferred temperature but it was worth the wait. But, as they say, good things do pinch the pocket than your average Starbucks drink, but, in this case, it was well worth the extra pennies :) read more

As the 4-star description says, "Yay! I'm a fan." This is a cute little coffee bar tucked away between the Shaw and U St/14th St area. It was opened in 2012 and since then, it seems to have done incredibly well for itself. As with any coffee shop, it gets crowded very quickly. There is a single couch and let me tell you, that is premium real estate. They recently opened up a lot of outdoor seating (thank goodness!), and I could definitely see myself sipping on a dirty chai in the sunshine after a nice yoga session nearby. If it's a weekday morning, I'd recommend that you get there AFTER the morning rush. 9:00am seems to be the sweet spot. Sundays are rough. As far as food and decor, this place is right on. It's got a handwritten menu in chalk on the wall -- but you can actually read this one! It's very clearly written, which I appreciate. The crowd is varied. I've seen multiple people come into this place and the baristas know their order -- such a nice touch. They have all the coffee selections you could possibly want, and great food too. WHY WON'T WHITE WOMEN SERVE BLACK MEN ICED ESPRESSO After an evening of arguing with a romantic interest's co-workers about the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and proper polling methodologies at The Big Hunt, I stir into consciousness. My head is ringing with the cheap Pollack vodka she and I thought was a good idea to do shots of before doing an impromptu Bluth Family Chicken Dance in her apartment. Processing all of this, I slither out of bed to rummage for my clothes. "Do you want to grab a coffee?" she asks, already halfway through her morning routine, sliding her long toned legs into her running shorts. "Sure," I say. "I was going to head to Starbucks." She laughs. "We can do better than Starbucks." I blink flatly, shrug as I slide my Topsiders on and we make our way to The Coffee Bar. As we approach, the front outside seating area is a garrison of stoic D.C. white people who sit with an eery stillness, quietly murmuring to each other in what could be construed as "conversation" but lacking emotive gestures one would typically associate with the act. We enter, approach the counter and I notice "TUMERIC LATTE" scrawled on the chalk board which sounds appealing. The Runner orders her beverage and I begin to order mine. "Can I have the Tumeric latte?" "Sure," the polite young black counter girl says. "Can I have it with almond milk?" I amend. "Oh...we only have oak or hemp milk." "I...don't know what those are. Just a shot of espresso please." "Okay." "Over ice," I add. Time stops. I get sheepish, bashful, averted eyes and she stays still like she's trying to avoid a Tyrannosaur for a few beats and then, without acknowledging me, resumes pulling the shot. "Over ice, please." I repeat. Seemingly materializing out of the wall like T-1000, the barista's manager, a tall lanky thing with a hook nose and aggressive eye shadow, turns around and informs me, "We don't do that here," while scooping ice for something else. Now, it's important to note that I in fact owned and ran a very successful coffee shop -- into bankruptcy -- in my early 20s. While it's longevity certainly reflects my business acumen, it shouldn't reflect my knowledge of coffee. Or at the very least earned me the right to order it however I want. However, I'm hungover. It's a Mid-Atlantic 89 degrees and all I want is my espresso, cooled over blocks of frozen H20. Yet it seems as if I'm in 1993's Demolition Man and I don't know how to use the Three Sea-Shells. "Ok...can you just give me an espresso and then give me a cup of ice. For water," I negotiate. More sheepishness. Eventually, I'm handed a plastic cup of ice and my espresso. Everyone behind the counter is watching me as if I'm wearing an explosive vest and have my thumb on the detonator. Bated breaths abound, I pour the espresso over ice and the hook nosed manager clenches her jaw and closes her eyes like she just lost a soldier to an IED in Tikrit. "Just so you know," she snarls. I don't live in the area, but the Honey Badger was recommended by this new app Sosh and I was in the area so I decided to give it a try. It's street parking only, but no hassel. Decor is reclaimed material/furniture. They have an Ipad POS System- which I did not expect, so that was cool. As soon as I received my tiny drink (the Honey Badger), I couldn't believe I paid $6 for such a tiny drink, but boy oh boy, the Honey Badger sure is strong. I was expecting it to be hot, but it's a cold drink and it definitely kept me going all day. read more

I always have a nice time people just sitting around and people watching or half-reading here because it's a great corner of DC that isn't too noisy, has beautiful leafy trees, and some seating. Just wish they would put a few more comfy seats or benches on the other side ( 12th Street) near the bike rack. My only tip is for all the baristas to acknowledge their customers and smile a bit more. Plus, you know how it goes with small coffee shops; it can be a wee bit costly if you camp out here for 2 drinks and snacks. hehe. Stopped into The Coffee Bar on a trip to D.C. This was a cute little coffee shop outside the city. We went in with hopes of a bite for breakfast and coffee. I ordered a mocha, which was quite good. Unfortunately by the time we got there for breakfast, most of the baked goods were already gone for the day. They did have a few bagels and scones still when we arrived, so I ordered an asiago bagel which was toasted with a side of cream cheese. The mocha chip scone, which looked and sounded delicious, was slightly dry but had good flavor. Overall, good stop in for a quick coffee with friendly, efficient service. Wow, hmmm, so..... The Coffee Bar. Yes. This was my second time here. I was impressed with the place already since the first time. It is nicely located in a quiet corner and has awesome outdoor tree-shaded seating right in front as well as cosy interior seating, even a high table which I really like. Craving an iced mocha, my drink of choice always, I came inside to a clean and nicely decorated space with catchy music playing. From behind the register, Becca so nicely and professionally took my order with a contagious smile, and the super cool barista Jeremy even accommodated my special request for extra half and half. The drink was so amazing that I drank it fast and had to order another one. I sat at the high table and did some drawing and nobody disturbed me and I got a lot accomplished. I could overhear Jeremy explaining to other customers specific things about the drinks, showing off his helpful knowledge of coffee and tea beverages. At other places, I normally hear baristas come up with answers like, "Um, I don't know," or "I'm not sure," or sometimes even just a plain "duh" look on their faces. HAH! None of that here! These people know what they're doing. What a fantastic business model. I seriously regret not having come here more often. There's a friendly resident cat in front that loves being petted but I didn't find out what its name is or who it belongs to. They also have free wi-fi.
