So I was in this little town of Muscatine, IA for a couple of days for work. There was not much going on here from what I could see. They have a 24 hr McDonald's and Walmart. In a town of 32K people, they had the basics covered. But you won't find a Starbucks in Muscatine. I wasn't looking for one, but I did want some coffee outside of the house coffee at my hotel. So I hopped on the inter webs, Yelp to be exact, and found this little coffee shop in downtown. It was about 4 miles from my hotel. I opted out of the breakfast provided by the hotel for a pastry and coffee at the Coffee Belt. The gentleman behind the counter greeted me when I walked in the door. Let me back up, the street the shop is on was deserted. It looked like a scene out of a zombie flick. I walked in shortly after they opened at 7am on a Thursday. They had all the usual suspect available to drink. I asked about the special hot chocolate they served. It is called Abuelita Hot Cocoa. I think the guy working was the owner. He told me the 411 on the hot cocoa and I decided to get one instead of coffee. DELISH! I also opted for a day old blueberry muffin and had a seat and started to pound out this reviews. A nice little shop in a nice little town. If you are rolling through like I did, stop on in a grab a drink.

This shop is relatively new in town and I've been wanting to stop in since it opened, which I finally did a few weeks ago. I follow their Facebook page and once I saw they serve Abuelita hot chocolate, I practically ran for the door. As a Hispanic, I could really appreciate that. It's the little things, ok? It's was cold and rainy the day I gave The Coffee Belt a whirl. In other words, perfect weather to check out a coffee shop. Inside, I felt so cozy. There's a few tables, a sofa, some comfy chairs and a table by the window. There was only one person behind the counter but it was not very busy. I ordered a cinnamon spice hot tea accompanied by a cinnamon apple scone. There were a few other desserts to choose from like muffins, cinnamon rolls and a giant slice of tres leches cake. The prices are affordable as well. My tea and scone were under $5. It's close by and beats driving across town to Starbucks. It always feels good to support a local shop anyway.

Love the selection of Sugar Free flavors!

My travel companion had a cold and we were able to ask for a home remedy. They were gracious enough to give it to us. The home remedy is a teaspoon of cayenne pepper and a shot of milk. We travelled at the end of January and after a long day of travel and many delays due to heavy low fog, we were definitely excited to have a restaurant right in the hotel. There is a parking lot across the street and a parking deck behind as well so there is plenty of parking. The restaurant is located right in the lobby and also has a full bar. My coworker and I were dying for a drink and some food after a long morning. The bar has speciality cocktails, but also a full bar, wine, and beer. You can check out their speciality cocktails, wine, and beer lists on their website as well as make reservations. For food, my coworker and I decided to share a few appetizers. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts, Wings (1/2 Honey Sriracha, 1/2 Ginger Scallion), and the Baked Goat Cheese. They were all DELICIOUS! The flavors were great and the portions were as well. I've never had goat cheese before and it was so amazing I couldn't stop eating it. The sriracha wings were spicy, but not overwhelming. Later, some other people met us and we ordered the shrimp tacos which were also very good. The next morning we also had breakfast and I ordered the Omelet which comes made-to-order and you can choose 4 different additions. It also comes with potatoes. All delicious. Additionally, the service was also great as well! If I'm ever back in Muscatine I will definitely plan to return.

One of…read morethe pros is there is a huge selection of drinks...and one of the cons is that they have a huge selection of drinks...it took me awhile to figure out what all the options were because the names by themselves don't tell much (there are blenders, caramelicious, iced lattes , smoothies, shakes, espressos, infusions, etc and a vast number of flavor options and modifiers. Even attempting to navigate the app to find these options can be difficult. When ordering at the drive-thru they don't offer much time to read over the menu...service can either be very friendly or impatient and abrupt. The app allows you to redeem points only for specific drinks or food items you preselect before you get to the store. I generally like the shakes which you can order with milk alternatives (default is the ice cream base). I usually find the sparkling sodas to be too sweet. Lattes are ok, but I usually order with oatmilk and I'm not sure what's causing the strange flavor... The food items are very good, especially the cake pops and egg bites. The triple cheese sandwich is also tasty. A big plus is they never forget to give you a napkin (and utensils if needed!)
