The Manly Marine Meal is an unfathomable compilation of protein and carbohydrate on one plate, so bountiful I recommend it only for someone who just completed an ultra-marathon. Those with mere hearty appetites should consider the perfectly prepared country fried steak and eggs. NOTE: The Coffee Cup Cafe understands eggs. They are served warm and perfectly prepared. I've seen the staff jump through hoops to get it just right for the pickiest of customers. I am giving it 4 stars because I couldn't get decent french fries. The fries came out limp, not crispy, and no salt or seasoning. They were just gross. And, they didn't stay hot because they were only in the hot grease long enough to be limp. I sent them back when they first came out. But, when they brought me a new plate of fries, it was the same. The service as phenomenal. The other food was phenomenal. The portions were very good. I don't like that everything extra I wanted on my chicken sandwich was .75 extra. My sandwich ended up being a $14 sandwich with bad fries. My husband loved his breakfast. Although his potatoes were barely cooked too. My mom was with us. She is tiny and doesn't eat much. She took half of her hamburger home for dinner. So a $10.29 hamburger is okay when you get two meals out of it. The coffee can't be beat! They serve Serrano's. I love this place. I wish I had more time living in the area and my kids were just a tad bit older. Immediately when you walk in, it's like an old town small country town type feel. I love it because it reminds me of home in Kentucky. The breakfast is simply delicious. What a treat! This is a coffee shop like we used to have years ago. There's no corporate feeling here, just good nutritious foods cooked to order. The place is spotless which, to me, shows that the owner cares about his place. That also means to me that the kitchen is also well cared for and clean. The menu is extensive for a smaller place. We have been coming here since A Second Cup closed its doors. Sadly, this will be our last time for awhile. My silverware was dirty (and it was milk or cream on my fork, someone should have noticed when rolling the silverware). Ordered the build your own skillet with eggs over easy...my skillet came out with scrambled eggs. Sent it back for the correct oder; it returned with the same skillet potatoes, now cooled and the cheddar cheese was thrown on top and due to the lack of heat, never even melted. The eggs, that I ordered over easy, were over hard (as was my husband's eggs and he had likewise ordered over easy.) We were never asked how everything was tasting and just really disappointed at the service we received. When breakfast (we only ordered a cup of coffee for my husband as I and our son only had water) runs $30, I would expect more attentive service and quality food. read more

This is my favorite breakfast place in the local Colorado Springs area. My church friends and family come here each week after the service. First impression is this small diner-esque kind of feel, but for such a tiny restaurant, they have a extensive breakfast and lunch menu. I love their cast iron skillet dishes - the veggie skillet being my favorite. The wait staff is welcoming and friendly. It is generally super busy on weekend mornings. This can lead to relatively long waits, but one bite of their food will appease you. A meal will set you back about an average of $10-$15. They have this Five Star rewards program that can get you all sorts of free goodies, so I'd highly recommend taking advantage of that. Did not enjoy this restaurant. The workers did not wear gloves while cooking my order. They took about 30 min to get me a beverage. I asked for a WELL DONE cheese burger w/ not onions or tomatoes, and came our raw/bloody. They took back the burger and still messed up. I will definitely will not return. But it was the experience that made this visit equally as delightful. The menu is on a printed old school newspaper with the history of the establishment on the front page. We were headed to Garden of the Gods and wanted a place to quickly grab some brunch before we did some hiking. I really liked the fact that they advertised as a Gluten free establishment. I don't think they have a dedicated kitchen, but I like the fact that they are aware. I also liked that it wasn't a greasy spoon, but rustic. So why the low rating. We walked in, and the servers were chatting. It took a minute of me wondering if we are supposed to seat ourselves or if we are supposed to be seated when a bouncy girl smiled and said anywhere on the right side. Works for me. We grabbed a booth. It wasn't that busy. I ordered an orange juice and a water and my fiance ordered a coke and a water. Our coke and orange juice came with a "I'll bring the waters in a minute." We ordered. I got the veggie skillet and my fiance got the country breakfast. The food came pretty fast with a "is there anything else I can get you?" "yes, sour cream and waters." I waited. I tried to find our server. Finally, I gave up and dug in. The food was pretty good, but it would have been even better with sour cream. It also would have been better if I had some water. Server never came to check on us once. We finished our food. Waited for the check. Nothing. No one even came near our booth. finally, my fiance got up and went to the counter. Now, I know a lot of diners you pay at the counter, but I didn't see any sign anywhere about paying at the counter. It was okay, nothing special for me. read more

We went here for the first time this week after being told by all the locals how awesome it is. It was packed on a Thursday late morning. We had to park down the road. Traveling from Grand Junction to San Antonio, TX. Stopped in to get some coffee and a quick breakfast. Both Mike and I were pleasantly surprised by this little town cafe. Coffee was great. We both just got black coffee. (I have yet to have bad coffee in CO). Food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious! My cinnamon roll was really chewy dough with little frosting and sparse cinnamon filling. The eggs Benedict scramble was in no resemblance to the flavors of eggs Benedict. First off, they put cheese sauce on top. CHEESE SAUCE. I thought we were not using food substitutes from cans anymore but I guess this place is a throw back to the 90s. The place itself is retro (and not in a good or fun way) -- in much need of a face lift. I thought the service was some of the most unprofessional, inept and inexperienced that i had encountered in a long time. On my recent visit, though the place was packed, I had to listen to several high-school aged waitresses go "on and on" about how the patrons were not tipping enough that morning, and that it was not worth their time to come in. The young help engaged in lots of personal and inappropriate chatter with each other, at the expense of serving the customers (no wonder so many customers were stiffing them that morning.) I never got a refill on my coffee, nor did anyone ever check up on me, though I was sitting right in front of their noses at the counter. not recommended! read more

After taking our food order, our server apparently went on break, not bothering to ensure that someone else would take care of us. We waited about 45 minutes before I finally lost my patience and asked a guy (maybe a manager?) what was going on. Our server immediately reappeared and was very apologetic. Our food eventually arrived but it was really mediocre. Only upside was that she comp'ed our whole meal. I don't think we'll be back though- there's much better food to be had in downtown C Springs. Oh my gawd. I couldn't believe there were no reviews for this outstanding "hole-in-the-wall" cafe where the "meals are well-balanced but the staff is not." When it comes to cooking breakfast, they also advise you "not to try this at home." ("We are professionals.") We lived in Monument from 1996-2005, and we had breakfast here often. The food is absolutely GREAT! The home fries have onions and other good seasonings. The corned beef hash and patty sausage are very tasty. And I don't know how they do their bacon, but it is the standard we use to compare all other cafes across the country. Stopped in early upon our arrival to Monument for some breakfast. It was delicious and perfectly done.

Decided to try something new in Monument today. Arrived with no issue finding parking. Walked in and found our way to the register but were ignored by the first 3 people that walked by. When someone asked if we'd been helped, I asked if it was a "seat yourself" situation. She said no we have a wait list. Problem was there were at least 10 open tables and no one else standing around waiting. After a 5-8 minute wait we were seated before the party of 2 in front of us?? Sat down and the waiter was quick to take drink orders. I ordered the Mainly Marine Meal with French Toast, all bacon and eggs soft scrambled (#10). The wait for the food was fairly short 8-10 minutes. The first odd thing was that my meal arrived 2 minutes before my wife's meal. The meal is huge to starters and looked good when it was sat I front of me, unfortunately that is where it ends. The Sourdough French Toast was cold and over cooked. The eggs were soft about 5 minutes before they hit the plate the Bacon, although close to crisp was also cold. The only thing in the plate that was hot were the potatoes, and they were the best part of the meal! The coffee was fresh but the orange juice is made from concentrate so nothing special there. Overall this meal and experience is a 3 of 5 on this visit. At the point I decide to give it another try I will update the rating if it deserves it. read more

First time at the Coffee Cup Café while visiting family. We came on a Saturday morning and were able to get a table right away for our party of six. Our server, Domenic, was helpful and funny, also, very attentive! The menu is quite extensive! First, we opted for the green chili burger only with the fried chicken breast. This dish was delicious! The chicken breast was cooked perfectly and the green chili is mild but so flavorful. We also tried the Manly Marine Meal; this platter of food is very big! It comes with pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage plus country fries and toast. We got this and had our children share it! The eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and goat cheese is to die for! Fresh, smoked salmon they get locally and it is some of the best we've tasted! Lastly, we just had to try the crepes that were recommended to us by the staff. We only wanted one and I'm glad we did, they are huge! A somewhat large pancake filled with berry cream cheese rolled up with whipped cream on top; so good! This restaurant is clean, the staff is very friendly, the bathrooms are kept up and the friendly folks from town make this a special spot for locals. Would definitely go back! read more

I just returned from two years in Diner country (PA and NJ) and a lot of the places over there can't hold a candle to the Coffee Cup. Wonderful little joint. Super delicious breakfast. My husband swears by their burritos but I love the green chili. We have been in on 4 separate occasions and the waitresses are always very polite and the food comes to the table super quick! They get their coffee from Serrano's which is also a local place. It's very dinerish, nothing fancy but the food is great. The only downside is they close at 3pm daily. Which stinks, sometimes I'm craving breakfast for dinner in the evening. My boyfriend grew up in Monument so he's been here a bunch - and I've been a handful of times over the three and a half years we've been together...but that might just be because of the lack of other options in such a small town. They claim that they're not a "greasy spoon" but a "fine rustic restaurant experience." I'd say they're a "less greasy spoon" but there's really nothing wrong with that. The decor is shabby and I imagine it's been the same for years and years. Every time we've been - even when you'd think this small town's after-church crowd would be out in throngs - we've found a seat right away. Service is always prompt and friendly, though yesterday our server was a bit awkward and seemed to be new - he didn't know that skim milk was the same as non-fat, and had never heard of poached eggs before. The food is just alright. Depending on what you get, sometimes it's ok and sometimes it's downright awful. I will say that one time we went I got a skillet with potatoes, eggs, green chile, sausage and cheese which was pretty darn good, the best I've had at The Cup. Yesterday's meal left a bit to be desired. I ordered the French Toast Stacker (made with sourdough) and asked for poached eggs. I got french toast and sunny side up eggs. The serving of french toast was small but for $8, I guess it was an ok value. The french toast itself was a bit soggy - and don't get me wrong, I don't mind a custardy center but even the outside wasn't browned. The boyfriend got the trout breakfast (trout, eggs, toast, and potatoes). The potatoes were over buttered and the trout was dry. His was a bit more expensive ($14). Last note: they do carry Serrano's Coffee now and offer espresso drinks. I ordered a mocha which is made with pre-made chocolate milk so a non-fat option was not available. The drink wasn't bad, but at $4.50 I won't order it again. We'll be back...until we find some place we like more. read more

Stars are for this type of restaurant which is a good old hometown establishment for the locals. The bottom line is the the prices are inexpensive and the breakfast I had was good. Eggs over medium, toast, potatoes and fruit. (fruit was canned not fresh) but nothing was greasy and the place was clean. Clean is very important in my book. And they gave me a cup of coffee to go (no charge thank you) Also I needed a Geocache and there was one close by. I want to love this place and I usually never complain. I was a waitress for years and I know it can be tough. The atmosphere and the food are pretty great. But this is the fourth time in a row I have had really horrible service. A lot of younger wait staff standing around and not tending to the customers. No condiments offered. No refills even when we asked. Over all just really poor attitudes. We had to ask three or four time to get anything. Our bill was never brought to us. It was not busy at all. Maybe a manager or an adult presence would help the service? We won't be back. :( read more

Visited my family this past weekend, I made sure to tell them I didn't wanna eat anywhere that could be found in California! They brought me here, about 45 minutes from their actual city, just to see if I liked it.. & if I must say, I enjoyed it all! The waiters & waitresses are the younger crowd. Ya know, high school teens looking to make money all summer? VERY FRIENDLY and never seemed tired or irritated (big impressions on me). THE restaurant to me is decent in size with enough room in between tables.. it was fairly crowded when we arrived, around 10am, but we were seated quickly & had our coffees placed within 5 minutes of entering the door THE FOOD: I ordered your basic breakfast plate; chocolate chip ($0.99 extra) pancakes, fried eggs & a sausage patty. The pancakes were GINORMOUS, wonderfully fluffy with that homemade batter taste, plus my eggs were cooked to my liking!
