This is one of the great places in Colorado Springs to get a classic lunch always a good place to eat. I enjoy the fries.

Generally, I don't care for restaurants green chili, but it was very good here. The service was excellent. They always kept an eye on us for refilling our drinks and coffee. This place reminds me of a little retro diner. It is absolutely wonderful, and I look forward to coming back. read more

We've been looking for a no-frills old school diner and this is certainly it. We can't wait to go back. Crispy has browns, runny eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon that you can order "medium or crispy"--what more can ya want? Also, especially for being an old school diner, it's clean (as are the bathrooms) which I appreciate. read more

An absolute hole in the wall fortunate find, suggested by a long-time employee in the industrial complex a street over. Sheldon's has been here 47 years and none of us working literally a block away knew. The best description I have of this place is "your grandma's cooking," and that's definitely a positive review coming from me. This place was the perfect diner-esque food without being greasy. I ordered your regular tuna sandwich, toasted bread, with macaroni salad, and it was a light but filling meal, which left room for homemade pie. Get your apple pie warmed up a la mode, it was absolutely the right choice. This affordable stop is a great, classic visit for the Springs, and while it seems to cater to a little older of a crowd, any age would definitely enjoy it. 4 stars for wonderful service and solid food, it's just nothing fancy or innovative. read more

I have eaten here several times when in town. Only been here for breakfast. Always good service and tasty food cooked right. They offer a bone in ham steak that has a lot of flavor so that is what I always order. Also, their home fries are grilled, not deep fried. Will go back for sure. read more

I came here for breakfast with a friend who has eaten here before. I had the Jan's breakfast. Scrambled eggs with sausage bits, home fried potatoes, cheese and green chili sauce. All very mild but quite good. I will come back again and try the other breakfast items. read more

Giving four stars cause this place does what it sets out to do: nothing fancy, just simple diner food served to you with a smile. I had the breakfast burrito and my lunchmate had the pastrami sandwich. Both were lackluster, no frills (and in the case of the sandwich, no flavor), but not necessarily bad. What was really impressive were the portion sizes and the outstanding service! So fast! The staff was attentive and friendly as all get out. The vibe of the place was cool too, very old-school. Next, the menu is ridiculously limited, the prices are astronomical compared to the size of the plates I saw (Milt's has all-you-can-eat yummy biscuits & gravy WITH eggs for around $5, here you get one serving, no eggs for $6), and how rude is it to have "No Substitutions!" in this day and age?! So, I can't get the chili cheese omelette with green chili in Colorado??? How does that even make sense?? Unfortunately, I don't see a second chance in Sheldon's future. read more

This may very well be the best place to eat in COS. Its old-school diner feel, lunch counter, and lots of locals make this a great experience. Its been here forever and its not hard to understand why. Comfort food at its finest. Chicken Fried Steak and the burgers are my go-to's. Went there this week with some co-workers and they kept raving about the open faced turkey sandwich. There's no frills to this place. Just delicious, well seasoned portions that are gargantuan. The open faced turkey sandwich reminded me of those second helping plates I look forward to grabbing on thanksgiving. Everything is cooked to order, with burgers sizzling on the flattop directly in front of you. Other coworkers snagged a burger and a roast beef melt that smelled heavenly. This places gets busy during the lunch rush, come by 11 or after 1 for the best service. read more

Ambiance: Sorta retro diner, circa early 1970's, with very little changed since then. Located in an aging strip mall on Nevada. Cylinder-block building. Inside, there is a counter with about ten stools, and a mixture of booths and tables. Sparsely decorated. Service: Though everyone I encountered was friendly and personable, I think the best way to describe the help is "lazy". My waitress was a middle-aged pleasant woman, but she messed up my breakfast order (I can forgive that, as she was quick to make the necessary changes). But she never checked back in with me on a rather quiet weekday mid-morning. Never refilled my empty coffee mug, which is a "sin" at breakfast time. Had to request my check when finished eating. Once I went up to counter to pay, the help was all chatting in the back kitchen. My waitress looked up and saw me standing at register to pay, made eye contact with me, but continued to stay in the back kitchen and chat with her co-workers. I had to wave at her, and summon her to the register so I could pay. Food: Standard breakfast fare, with sandwiches and American hot dish favorites at lunch. Food is decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. I would rate the food better than Denny's or I-Hop for sure, but for breakfast, there are way better independent joints in town (see my other reviews), and for home-style lunch, you can also do better. Overall, I really wanted to like this place more. I am a big proponent of little diners, over the franchise places. This place misses the mark in service, and their menu does nothing to set them apart. read more

Service is diner casual; friendly, social but effective. If you're someone that needs lots of direct and immediate attentions to be happy (Hello, Princess....), you should go to Denny's.... Their prices are kind of middling; not cheap but not expensive. Certainly reasonable for the portions. This is one of my favorite places for comfort food! read more

If COMFORT is what you want, it is exactly what you will get! The open face hot roast beef sandwich is perfect - meat is melt in your mouth, and the gravy is good - not too salty. In the last week I have eaten 3 different items, and would recommend the Meatloaf - they have REAL whipped potatoes - not from a box -and they are light and perfectly whipped! The meatloaf is traditional - also the hint from the people who sent me to eat here was to try the open faced turkey - I personally like the roast beef better, but must concede that the white meat open faced turkey is really great too! Love Sheldon's! My hubby says their chicken fried steak is about the best he's ever had. I like the open face sandwiches. It's a DINER!
