A legit diner! While in the area for work, I made the excecutive decision to stop here for lunch. When my coworker pulled into the parking lot, it was full and it wasn't quite noon yet. Always a good sign. It didn't long for us to be seated. I quickly scanned the restaurant and noticed a small buffet. Yippee! I like it when the little small town restaurants have buffets. The food is sometimes better. Once we were seated and received our menus, I saw the prices for the buffet and couldn't pass it up. For an all veggie buffet, $6.99, one meat buffet, $7.99 and for a two meat buffet, I believe it was $9.99. All the buffet choices includes a salad, as many veggies as you would like and dessert. I chose the one meat buffet, which came out to be $8 and some change. I chose the chicken fried steak, which was quite tasty. It could've had a bit more seasoning but it was fried just right. I put a good variety of veggies on my plate as well. My coworker had some kind of gound beef patty covered in molé sauce, cheese and jalepenos. He said it was really good. The complimentary dessert was spiced cake with ice cream. My coworker ended up getting a slice of pecan pie. I declined dessert. Overall, we had a solid experience. I cannot complain. Update: We hadn't been here w my parents in a while. We were in the area and stopped by for lunch. It was excellent. My wife had the popcorn shrimp and I got the tenders buffalo style. I love their breakfast entrees but also the lunch/dinner entrees are excellent as well. The buffalo tenders had quite a kick which I absolutely loved. The fries and ranch were excellent as well. They have regular tenders if you don't tolerate spices well let me my wife. It is a great restaurant and is casual. I really enjoy it here. The restrooms are excellent as well. Usually for breakfasts. They serve breakfast all day. My parents are regulars. They have a Spanish omelet that I really love. I get it with well done hashbrowns and their biscuits and homemade gravy. Watch out as when the biscuits run out then they are out for the day if I recall correctly. I know that they have a breakfast buffet on the weekends and buffets at other times of the day but I don't focus on the buffet. My fiancé however loves the buffet. The pancakes are luscious and my mother loves their coffee. We went one time at night and I tried their chicken fried steak. It was excellent. Everything I have tried here I have loved. There is a bit of a trip out to Mcgregor from Waco but it is really worth the trip. You can tell that the owner and employees are truly happy and want to treat you to a wonderful dining experience. You can tell the food is made with love. This is a great place to eat. If you want you can get an inexpensive item a la cart like a single pancake. Try a buffet or get a big meal. very bad service(waitress had a attitude), food came out bad, waitress only checked on us a table of 5 one time, during our 20 minute stay.. I had to get other servers to help us. I could not enjoy my food with my family so I just asked for my ticket, paid for horrible service and left. This establishment was not very welcoming to people of color. I will not be returning or recommend anyone to this establishment! The waitress name on our ticket said Theresa, not sure if that was her name as she didn't introduce herself to us, she was an older white lady wearing black short, red top. FANTASTIC if you like old time country home cooking with great service with a smile. We did the Sunday buffet lunch and had a wait but it was worth it. Drinks came quickly along with a basket of rolls and cornbread. I suggest going twice to the buffet: once for the cold salads and another for the hot foods. I decided to call the coffee shop for a easy pick up dinner tonight. I believe my mistake was think they've always served good food. I originally wanted a catfish plate. I was told they were low in stock on catfish. I said okay well let me have a full order of chicken fried steak. Then I placed my wife and daughters food. When I pick up my order. I noticed they had catfish on the buffet. Well if you're low in stock on a product. How can you serve it on a buffet? This is just half of it. When I got home with our food. The breading fell off my chicken fried steak. The steak was not tender at all. Then I was served boxed Mac and cheese! This is not the way I remember the coffee shop. A great hometown cafe with friendly service. They offer a full menu as well as a buffet for dinner. The portions are large and tastes fresh. On our way to Fredericksburg from Dallas, we made a special trip after seeing it on a "best pies in Texas" list. We decided to have a bite to eat before the main attraction. Shared the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. While the sandwich was tough and bland, the sweet potato fries were crisp and delicious. After tackling that, it was showtime! After hearing the extensive list of choices, we chose the chocolate meringue and I'm pretty sure we licked the plate clean! Wife and I were driving back from a visit to Waco. We are out-of-towners scouting out areas around Austin. While not near Austin (sorta) we followed through with our plan to check out Waco. Our drive back brought us to Coffee Shop Cafe for a quick lunch. This place is cool. Staff is very friendly (like most people I've met in these parts). Food is not complicated and not pretentious. Just good 'ol comfort foods. It also happens to have a world-well- known regular that has a place down the street. His presence is posted on the entrance walls and on the coffee cups (of which, I bought one). Religious talk radio in the background - on this day, it was a fund-raising/fund-match radio show. Not my normal listen on a afternoon drive but if this is representative of the area, then I like it. The food: Baked Potatoe with chicken and broccoli was ok .. a tad dry and could have used some butter, but I didn't ask. Patty Melt with fries and she ate the whole thing, a good sign. Great hamburger and cheeseburger on a jalapeño bun!! Had a wonderful looking buffet, loaded with home-cooked food and the best selection of veggies I have ever seen. Quaint rustic little place here in McGregor. Service was impeccable, on top of everything. I ordered decaf and Peggy quickly jumped on it and made a fresh pot. She frequently checked on me once i got my food as well. Ordered the Coffee Shop Special for breakfast, and added jalapeños to my eggs. Just the right amount of jalapeños, and thoroughly mixed on, not just a couple slices added on top after the eggs were cooked. Sausage was average and only warm, not hot. Our experience at the Coffee Shop Cafe was great! I really wanted a breakfast biscuit sandwich and the Cafe didn't disappoint. It was hot, fresh, and wonderful. We had heard about the breakfast buffet but arrived just a few minutes before the buffet was to close so we went with menu items. I think they shut it down at 10:30 AM and really announce a last call for the buffet so if that's what you want, get there early. We've gone a few times and have never been disappointed; Breakfast during the week and weekend buffets. The wait staff is very attentive and even handle special orders without batting an eye. We were just there this morning and ordered three buffets and a special order to accommodate a plant based diet - no problems. Drink refills were timed perfectly and the buffet was well stocked on all items. One word of caution: there may be a lengthy weight to get a table. We went for breakfast...This place used to have good food, but the last couple of times it has just gone down. I ordered 2 biscuits and sausage and I got two dinner rolls and a half cooked piece of sausage. My husband got the buffet, he said the bacon was good, the hash browns were barely warm and the eggs were so so. The coffee was good but that was it. The buffet isn't a true buffet. There's a sign at the buffet that says don't touch the utensils. They give you what they want you to have. The lady at the cash register never engaged me whatsoever. Love this place! When we are lazy and don't want to cook this is our place to go. Don is a really nice owner and the gals are awesome! They have a buffet every night that is different so you can eat all you want or order from the menu. I love breakfast for dinner and they make omelette that are jam packed!
