I was hoping to find a new favorite coffee shop but this place missed the mark in every way. It's August 2020 so I'm not going to compare it to places I visited last year, but other places I've visited recently (i.e. Covid time). First, the patio is closed. I didn't see this listed anywhere on yelp or on their website, so here's your notice. The inside is also closed, which is fairly usual right now, but this is first closed patio I've seen in August. I wouldn't have come had I known. The attention to detail also was just not there. There was no straw with my iced coffee and no napkins with my bagel. Just small things that I've come to expect. I made a mess with the cream cheese and had to clean up with a tissue in my bag. My salmon bagel had way too much cream cheese, but I realize this is just personal preference, and if that was the only issue I'd let it go. If I had a napkin I would have scrapped some off. I wish this place had better service because the iced coffee and salmon bagel were otherwise delicious. When shops like this are on every corner I'm going somewhere else next time. read more

Great coffee and pastry choices (we ordered two iced coffees and an almond croissant). Unfortunately, what previous reviewers have mentioned about the attitude of the staff here still resonates. Walked in and we're the only customers there. No greeting, no verbal acknowledgement, just stares. I'm glad to read that it seems like most of the "coffee snobs" are gone, but during our visit we must have stumbled upon the few that still exist here. We're avid coffee drinkers and easily drop $20+ on a good coffee shop daily, but customer service is also everything to us. Doubt we'll be back. read more

Ok I am just going to say this right now...I am a coffee snob for real. I literally don't own a coffee maker because I just do pour overs every morning. So, I am very easily disappointed when I go get coffee anywhere because of this monster living inside of me that is overly critical of the beans! That being said, I really enjoyed both the tea and the coffee I had at The Coffee Studio. I like that they have two different options for pour overs for regular coffee and an option for decaf and also have oat milk for vegans who like a little bit of cream (as a coffee purist, I am a little against this but as someone who battles stomach acid, it's actually a must for me digestively). I've been meaning to leave this review since August. I had a great experience here! The coffee is top notch and the staff are so friendly! I actually dropped my coffee all over the sidewalk within 30 seconds of buying it, and even though I asked to pay for the replacement coffee at least 3 times, staff insisted they just make me another one for free! So, it seems my latest 'thing' is going to coffee shops and not having coffee. I like to make as much sense as possible. The Coffee Studio has a very Scandanavian feel (clean lines, minimal, hip looking ladies who wear black and read big books). I liked it. I also liked my latest discovery: KUMQUAT soda? What the hay-ell? I know. I don't even know what a kumquat is but I like saying it. Kumquat. It helps remind me that I am single. Think on it. Anywhoo, any place that sells kumquat soda, has cool seating, clean design, a cool hip (as opposed to dirty hip or annoying hip) crowd and chocolate bread that is so moist and delicious I can imagine that it's not made with vegetables has gotta be a cool place. After driving around for a bit looking for a nice casual coffeehouse to perk me up, I picked this one based on the fabulous reviews. But really, this is the best Edgewater/Andersonville has to offer!? Rarely do I feel compelled to write a review while I'm still on-location, but this deserves it.. Not a single server here knows the term "smile" or "friendly" - they all look hungover and as if they'd much rather stay in bed. They seem to be pissed at every additional customer who gives them another coffee-making task and if looks could kill, this would be a cemetery not a coffee house. The coffee cake I got is stale and hard and nothing else looks much better. The chai is terrible, seriously, I'd even vote Starbucks over this chai latte, which is like southern sweet tea more than a chai latte. I like the decor, which is the only reason I'm giving it more than 1-star and the fact that it is spacious. Pity because so much more can be done with it! A little coffee shop on the tiny corner of Clark and Olive--I actually drove past it the first time so don't miss it! Parked one block over at Ashland and walked over. Cool design, staff is very polite. I came around 4pm and it was packed until around 7pm. Plenty of outlets if you sit along the walls. Only one big desk near the entrance and a couple of small tables in the back that you can push together. Pretty good for solo studying but not great for group study. One annoying part: Internet voucher/code lasts for 1 hour, so I had to keep asking for new codes. Make sure to ask for a few codes if you plan to stay long! 16oz dolce latte (~$5) was sweet, but nothing special. I initially thought the smoked salmon flatbread ($9) was overpriced but it was actually delicious and super filling! Interested in trying some tea from their extensive selection next time. This sleek, modern and sophisticated coffee place just invites you to grab a cup and sit and stay a while. First of all, it looks amazing! The decor is sleek, modern, warm and inviting. The baristas are friendly and helpful. They serve Intelligentsia coffee and tea which is a big plus. I got a medium chai latte which was delicious! It wasn't overly spicy like other chai tea lattes that I have had. My boyfriend got a double shot of espresso which he enjoyed. They also have an awesome selection of candies and I picked up some salted caramel truffles from Katherine Ann Confections. They were delicious! They also serve beer, wine and small plates in the evening. The beer selection looked great. I'd like to come back for that if we are in the area. The only thing I found weird was that they did not have large sizes on their menu for the espresso hot drinks like the vanilla latte but they did for the milk drinks like chai latte and hot chocolate. Yelpers seemed to be crazy about the caramel latte in the reviews, so I went ahead and ordered one.. ICED for the summertime. I'd have to agree, it was deeeelicious. Maybe because of the gorgeous beach weather, or the friendly people in Andersonville, but once I entered The Coffee Studio I felt settled, calm and peaceful. I was already in a good mood- the coffee made it even better. The ambiance felt open, comfortable yet organized. (Someone commented that the decor looked Scandinavian... and I get it now. It had a rugged, clean-cut IKEA vibe.) I sat at a little table made of light wood, the color of the outside of a conch shell, along a cushioned bench that spanned the back wall. Each individualized table had free plugs under the bench (score!) although I did have to awkwardly squeeze between/underneath the narrow table-space to plug in my laptop. But more on the iced caramel latte... the barista added a handsome drizzle of caramel on top of the ice. Plus, I was there for more than an hour, and even after the ice melted, it STILL tasted better than what I could get at anywhere else. Now that's a great iced latte. read more

"Oh you fancy, huh?" As with most slang meant for people far younger than me, I've really been overusing this phrase recently - and probably offending a lot of people in the process. But, I think, in this case, I'm using it correctly. Not that there's anything wrong with "fancy." Far from the putting on of airs that the saying implies for a person, it's actually a great change of pace when it comes to a coffee house. I do have to say, however, that it was weird to see such a sleek shiny silver serving area. I half thought that I accidentally walked into a sushi restaurant due to the gorgeous lines, hard angles, and expensive woods. But the rich coffee aroma set me straight right away (as did the fact that it has good lighting). And the delicious peppermint tea I ordered served in an significant to-go cup set me even straighter. But it didn't set me back with a "fancy" price. It was a little over $3.00, just like in Wicker Park. And the crowd seemed as genteel as the surroundings. Everyone was quietly plugging away on their laptops (probably using the free hour of Wi-Fi that comes with a purchase here). Even the music was being played at a level conducive to working. The whole package had a wonderful calming influence. It was perked up on legal stimulanted bliss! In fact, I didn't even know what to do with the lack of distractions (not a single person was talking loudly about their latest art school project). It was an odd sensation to be able to read a book in peace at a coffee shop! I haven't been able to do that in years! Now I do prefer a nice couch to sink into while drinking my tea or whatnot. And they don't have a lot of spaces to sit which made me feel guilty about killing an afternoon there. Still, if I lived nearby, I might never frequent one of the dingier (but hipper) caffeinated gathering places of Logan Square again. And I might actually get stuff done over tea. Disappointed. After wanting to come here for so long after stumbling upon their website one day, they didn't live up to the image they promote. I might give this place another chance at some point, but there are tons of good coffee shops within a few miles of this place and I don't know if I'd bother coming back. My pourover was reaalllllllllllly bad. Like not just mediocre or average, but really, really, really bad. If it were at least okay, I'd give them the benefit of doubt for maybe having an off day from what should be exceptional, but this had to been on purpose or something. My barista didn't seem too concerned with time, working slowly an was more focused on socializing instead of completing the task at hand. I don't know how she managed to brew for twice as long as she should have and I was really hoping it's some sort of unique thing they do there since she really looked like she was waiting intentionally, but it was burnt AND sour. It might as well have come out burnt from a McDonald's machine. I wish I were exaggerating. A coffee shop that prides themselves in taking coffee seriously should be capable of at least a little better than this. 2 is a generous rating for decent decor (but no bright lighting :/) and a decent caramelatte. This place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside! Plenty of tables and areas to sit. I ordered the dolce ice coffee and my husband ordered an iced mocha. I didn't love my coffee but didn't hate it either. I think I'll order something else next time. I am interested to try to coffee and tea inspired cocktails as well as the ice cream and Popsicles. Customer service is where the Coffee Studio originally failed me, and caused my review to be less than stellar. I was quite surprised to receive a heartfelt and appreciative apology from one of the co-owners of the Coffee Studio. The sentiment expressed was spot on, and my guess is that my experience would have been different had the owner been on site (I was there on a Sunday afternoon). I was told the glass case "broke" Friday evening after the owner had left for the weekend, and the staff failed to tape over the sharp edge until it could be repaired. I accept that. I was also offered an order of drinks on the house - which would have been the right thing to do at the time. Again, a gracious way to apologize. So I'm returning my rating to what it would have been but for my experience, which the owner saw fit to rectify in an entirely satisfactory way. I'll try to come back on a weekday and express my gratitude to the owner when I see her. read more

Busy little spot with a nice patio, modern/comfortable furniture and an honest and hip, yet not too trendy execution of an independent coffee shop. It is what it is. A place to hang out and drink relatively extravagant coffee drinks. Seems to be family friendly--a few young couples there today, one with a stroller. On my first evening here in Chicago I decided to go see what coffee shops were like outside the downtown core, while the cta ride might have been longer than expected to basically a neighbourhood that could potentially be sketchy, Yelp had told me that this is a location I would enjoy and the neighbourhood turned out to be a great walk as well. Overall I give my time here 4.5 stars. When I finally found the location (might have walked down the wrong road for a bit) I was greeted by one of the calmest and serene coffee shops I have been to. People were not loud, working away on their laptops or quietly chatting to each other. I loved the interior modern deco and their fun almost caricature esque pictures hanging around. I enjoy the fact that they offer up a complete food menu (especially for a breakfast on the go). Drinks were also a standard espresso based menu, my latte was not the best ever but I still liked it OK, not a huge fan that I could not use my wifi password on more than just one device (being a tourist I require wifi for email, yelp of course and just general digital things). I would have liked more comfy seating, but they seem to be dong a decent job in utilising the space they have to work with. Overall I'm very happy I took the chance to take the commute here, nothing in the downtown Chicago area has yet to prove as solid as The Coffee Studio in placating the caffeine lover in me! read more

I'll admit it....I do like the occasional coffee or latte in the afternoon, especially on the weekends, however, I am not a big fan of Starbucks so when driving around the city, I'll try and find a local place.... Was up in Andersonville this afternoon and found this one (thanks to Yelp)...after circling the area a couple times, I found a spot to park about 1/2 block away (and a bonus is I forgot street parking is free on Sundays!) and walked over to this place. It was a bit crowded and a lot to choose from....when I made my decision, they gave me my cookie and told me to sit somewhere and they would bring my drink over and I could pay for it then (since they were having a problem with their payment system). I said fine and settled down and enjoyed my pumpkin frosted cookie. Finished with the cookie, they did bring out my drink....it was tasty and a bit cooled, but still good nonetheless (I got a carmelmacchio which I think is a take off on the Carmel Macchiato from SB). A very neat place to go to hang out and I did sit outside so did get to see some interesting pedestrian traffic walking by. If ever in the area, I will patronize this place again....service was a tad slow but it was busy there and as I had mentioned, it seems they were putting a new payment system in place. read more

I am not too sure why this coffee shop has a cumulative rating of 4 stars, seeing as how this is a great cafe. They use Intelligentsia and the barista served me a great latte. Alongside my latte, I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie, which was equally as delicious. The ambiance is very warm and serene- or at least it especially felt that way when I went, since it was raining heavily outside. They just get it wrong. I try and support this local business during the pandemic but I can't anymore. First it was the food: NY Lox Bagel -- it was not toasted (?!) and was basically an ice cold bagel. Banana Muffin -- tasty but the wrapper was nearly glued to the bottom causing me to have to spit out some of the wax paper because I couldn't even see it! Had to forgo the entire bottom of the muffin as the paper was so entrenched into the muffin. Then. Ordered two oat milk lattes and was served cow milk lattes. I am allergic to cow milk! Even the three small sips I had have already caused a reaction that will impact my entire day! Already itchy all over and feeling nauseated. Thank you Coffee Studio! The place. Fantastic. I sort of always forget how cool Andersonville is, and then I stumble into a place like this, and I'm like "why does it have to be so far north???" Cute. Hipster-ish. Nice outdoor seating. Staff was super friendly, and helpful. The menu is almost a little overwhelming - mostly, it's awesome, but it spans most of the back wall behind the counter...there's a lot. But the staff was definitely equipped to answer any and all questions. The taste: I got a lemonade popsicle (because it's summer, and why don't more places have popsicles?) - Except for the fact that it ended up being quite sticky, this popsicle was packed with lemon tart goodness. I also got a greek yogurt with honey. Hit the protein shaped hole in my belly. And was presented beautifully. My face: Totally contented. Eating outside is one of my favorites. Met up with a friend who insisted on treating, so I think the total (including friend's popsicle and some fancy latte) was maybe $20....possibly less. Whatever it was, it was worth it. read more

First time here. Very cute and well lit. Plenty of spaces to sit during midday. Had a 12 oz "caramelatte" which was very good. I was afraid it would be too hot, but I waited a minute. With the whip cream, it was a perfect warm-temperature on this cold Wisconsin day. I also had a cranberry orange coffee cake. It looked like it had been in the display glass since the morning. To my surprise it was not dry at all. It was moist and had good flavor. It was lightly sweet and paired well with the latte. Both the drink and cake came out very quickly. The cashier also had asked promptly after counting my cash if I had needed the WiFi password. I did not need it but I thought it was lovely that she asked if I had. The price of what I got was very reasonable and I will definitely be coming back for more sometime soon. read more

Had to do some work and thought I'd check this place out since I live in the area. I had an iced americano with a splash of coconut milk. It was pretty good. They do not have almond milk. I also got their smoked salmon bagel. This one comes with sun-dried tomato. I enjoyed it. They are very generous with that cream cheese yo! Probably one of the best lattes I've ever had. The taste was literally so amazing; you could taste the espresso (didn't just taste like milk or anything) and it was suuuuch a nice flavor, not bitter or acidic or any of that bad stuff! I stopped there on the way of my weekly visit to my boyfriend's place, and I'm thinking I'm gonna make it a permanent part of my trip from the suburbs.
