This place is a nice, clean, Vietnamese restaurant compared to its surroundings. We ordered banh beo and a new menu item: soft shell crab papaya salad. The soft shell crab was amazing and cooked well, the papaya salad was good. As for the banh beo, it was decent but felt a bit plain. Overall, more is expected given the price point (either in quantity or quality". Nevertheless, this place is good place to scratch a craving for Vietnamese food.
We ordered the Bun thit nuong, pho bo, mi quang, Banh mi chao, and banh beo chen. The banh beo chen was definitely our favorite. We've never had it before so it was a pleasant, tasty surprise! The bun and mi quang were also pretty solid. The banh mi chao was decent but they were sadly out of the bone marrow when we went. The pho was okay but there's definitely better pho in the area. We also tried the egg coffee which I thought was super delicious! DaNang Kitchen has a more unique menu compared to some of the other Viet restaurants around, so I definitely recommend trying it out! I enjoyed all the food we ordered and liked trying new items! If you want pho or a more extensive menu, then I'd recommend going somewhere else.
Great little gem in Uptown. Pho broth was deep, flavorful and rich in beefiness. Beef was tender. Noodles were perfect. Other dishes like their egg rolls, banh khots and banh xeo were equally delicious. Service was warm and kind. Wanted to order more but just couldn't make room for more...but when I come back I want to try the short rib & bone marrow clay pot!

With such a small menu I wasn't sure what else to get, but was recommended the mi quang since that was the only other soup besides pho, though its supposed to not have a lot of broth. It was very mid. Pretty mild flavor and the noodles were overcooked, and because they're on the thicker side it made it worse. I loved the fresh greens, almonds, and the sesame cracker, but the noodles itself would be a hard pass. Very mellow compared to other viet dishes I've tried. The service was great though and i'd come back to try their appetizers as that is what lured me to this place. But if you like intense flavors this dish would not be it.
DaNang is a cute little spot tucked away on Argyle street! It's not very big but there is plenty of seating. Our food came out fast, and the servers were friendly. One note - you pay up at the front! We had been waiting for the bill, but there is a sign to go up to pay. I really appreciated that there was a specific vegetarian section on the menu. There were plenty of things to choose from! I ended up ordering the Pho Chay with a Thai tea. The Thai tea was super creamy, they must have used coconut cream or something. The Pho Chay was really good once you add the fresh mint, jalapeños, bean sprouts, and spices. I liked that it had both tofu and soy protein. I would definitely come back here! Great lunch spot.

Our group of 4 really enjoyed our dinner at this cozy, mom and pop place! There's easy parking around the corner and we were seated right away at the window table. The service was friendly and with good timing. We aren't familiar with Vietnamese cuisine so there was a bit of guesswork with the entrees. They were are all very good, from the grilled pork cutlet with rice and veggies to the veggie and rice platter, vermicelli bowl with shrimp, and spring rolls. The food arrived quickly and the mix of flavors and textures were so good. There's a nice menu of Vietnamese and Thai drinks too.
That was fantastic! We saw a TikTok review and decided to check it out. We've been burned by TikTok reviews before so we were hopeful but unsure. I got the signature noodle and my date for the short ribs and bone marrow dish. We also got the spring rolls with almond dipping sauce (they use almond butter instead of peanut butter) which was straightforwardly delicious, and I got the yuzu lemonade and he got the strawberry smoothie. They are clearly using high quality ingredients and good technique. The service was prompt and attentive. The restaurant is tiny, but quiet and clean. It's an easygoing vibe.
Came here this past weekend for dinner while visiting a friend in Chicago, and it's quite solid. We were a group of three coming in for dinner on a Friday night around 7pm. The venue is well lit and space was cozy. We were met with friendly staff that took our orders after we sifted through the menu for a few minutes. My friends and I decided to go family-style ordered the following: - Banh Khot: tasty, crisp, lighter than other places I've been to (4/5) - Banh Beo Chen: came out fresh, well-steamed, delicious and balanced in texture (4/5) - Com Tam Suon Cha: absolutely yummy! While it's a common dish at many Vietnamese places, the pork was glazed and cooked without heaviness to it. (5/5) - Mi Quang Noodles: this is the popular dish/specialty! My friends and I agreed that it was good, but we wish there was a little more broth in the dish to expand on the flavor. Definitely would recommend this place if you're looking for a Vietnamese place with a smaller menu and specialized dishes! The food was good and we were able to leave without feeling groggy. I also just wanted shoutout the staff because a little over an hour after leaving I realized that I forgot my purse at the restaurant. It was about 20 minutes past closing when I called to see if I could get it, and they said they had my purse and would wait for me to come pick it up! Bless their souls! The staff are the sweetest for staying past closing and I really appreciate them for the flexibility - especially the chef, who was the one who stayed and wait after their colleagues left!
DaNang always looks packed when I walk by, but it was almost empty when we stopped in. Service was super quick and our food came out almost immediately. We split a bbq pork banh mi - the flavors were all great (salty and sweat, with a nice kick from the jalepeño), but I felt like there was less meat than most places. We also tried the Vietnamese iced coffee which was delicious much sweeter than I'd personally prefer (but that's just me - my brother loved it). For our mains, we tried the beef noodle soup and the signature noodle with pork and shrimp. The signature noodle was my fav part of the meal - had the chewiest noodles and most delicious sauce. Only critique is that the pork was fattier than I expected, so wish I'd tried chicken instead!

They had a nice variety of Tofu/vegetarian items, chicken, beef and pork dishes... including a huge sections of sandwiches! Something for everyone. We started off the papaya salad and vegetarian egg rolls. Both were delicious! I had the com chay, which was rice and marinated tofu with a small side salad. It also came with one of the veggie eggrolls. I am a bag fan of tofu but not everyone can make it flavorful. They did an AMAAAZING JOB! The other members in my party order the rotisserie chicken banh mi and five spice chicken and rice dish. We also split another item... unfortunately, I'm not sure what it was called. I did include a photo of the dish. It was kind of like a fried crepe/korean pancake. It was stuffed with tofu and some veggies. The waiter showed us how to eat it. Break off/cut a piece of the "crepe", wrap it in lettuce, and dip. Like I previously mentioned, I'm a a big tofu fan. I enjoyed the fillings but the "crepe" part was a little too oily for my taste. However, still pretty tasty.
Egg coffee: nope, too bitter and too sweet at the same time. Flavor doesn't really mix. Very intense and sharp. Not my thing Sea salt coffee: really good. The closest to the 7 leaves coffee I loved in SoCal Banhmi: nothing special. Crispy bread though Signature Mi Quang: not sure what I was eating. Nothing memorable Crispy shrimp cake: Favorite of all! Love the coconut cake! It's good by itself. Slightly crispy edge with soft middle part. My favorite Vietnam snack!
Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 We tried Banh Mi Chao, Xoi Man (sticky rice), and My Quang (noodles) and they were just ok. The flavors were different from what I thought and it wasn't for me. However, the decorations were great and served in good temperature, hot and crunchy bread was a point. Service was not friendly, the guy who took our order looked upset and scary. We're traveler from CA and really want to enjoy Vietnamese food in different State and look for a good service, really! Ambiance is cozy and made us feel like home! So overall is pretty good!

I used to live in Andersonville, and about five years ago, while searching for highly rated Vietnamese restaurants around Argyle, I came across this place. I remember trying their traditional noodle dish and, of course, their Vietnamese coffee. Fast forward to this year, I finally came back, and I'm so glad I did. The coffee flight was the highlight of my visit. It was such a fun way to experience different takes on their traditional Vietnamese coffee, and every cup was delicious. Their deconstructed bánh mì was also fantastic, creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I'm happy to say this place is just as good as I remembered, if not better. I'll definitely be back, and this time I won't wait another five years! read more

A very settled mom & pop restaurant with warm customer service. The place is small that seats up to 20 guests? We had soup, egg rolls , crepe and banh khot. Though the inside is safe. The outside street is observed with shady characters. Just be aware of your surrounding. read more

Papaya salad with soft shell crab was a daily special and was incredible. Soft shell crab was perfectly fried and papaya salad had great flavor, it was just pricey for the portion. Bun beo was disappointing to eat after the papaya salad and lacked flavor. Service was quick, but you need to ask for water if you want it. read more

It was our first time dining at DaNang. We enjoyed the mi Quang. It was tasty--probably the best Mi Quang in Argyle. We also had the bun bo danang. It was good, but we had better elsewhere in Argyle. We will come back to try other dishes. The restaurant has a strong odor from various dishes that are fragrant and very pungent. I don't mind the smell because it tells me that it's authentic to those with a mature palate. read more

I first ate here in 2021 and I loved eating here - got the Mi Quang Tom Thit (Danang signature noodle) and the turmeric chicken and rice. Both were so delicious and next time I come here I'll be torn between getting what I know I love and trying out so many of the other delicious sounding things on the menu. I've been here a few times since I first came in 2021 and I still love this spot. This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The banh khot fusion, banh beo chen, and mi quang is my perfect meal and I will be back to eat it whenever I am sad. This is a place I take people when they visit, and I will keep doing so. read more

$24 plus tax and tip is $30 for this one with dry rice and little bit food. I think it's not worth it. It comes with thin yellow meat and over cooked steak. Bad experience. Never come back. read more

We came here to eat brunch. We ordered pho and banh mi chao. The banh mi chao was outstanding! Savory, tasty and simply delicious. 10/10. I would have loved a real Vietnamese baguette to eat with it. I would come here again. read more
Was craving a bowl of pho and decided to try some at DaNang Kitchen. This was our first time at DaNang and the reviews look pretty good so my friend and I were excited to try it. We ordered a bowl of the pho dac biet which is their combination pho that came with Rare Steak, Fat Brisket, Beef Meatballs, and Short Rib. Pho was delicious, but nothing too spectacular. We also ordered some potstickers which were decent. (Nothing too crazy) Had to deduct a star because my friend and I were standing in the empty restaurant for five minutes without any one attending to us or acknowledging us (we even considered leaving at some point because of this). Might consider trying the other menu options next time since their rice dishes look pretty good. read more

We ordered pickup for dinner. They initially said 25 minutes, but we got there a bit early and it was already finished. I had the banh mi, sea salt coffee, and a few of my husband's shrimp cakes. We also ordered the egg coffee and the mi quang. Banh mi: 4 stars - the flavor was really good. The bread was perfectly crispy. My only complaint would be that it was a little small, but I expected it to be since it was listed as a "small plate". Sea salt coffee: 5 stars - delicious. Shrimp cakes: 4 stars - these were ok. My husband really liked them, but they didn't have much flavor in my opinion. They did have huge whole shrimp through which was nice. The egg coffee was not for me. It was both too bitter and too sweet at the same time. We added a bit of milk to it when we got it home and it was pretty good. The mi quang was just ok. It smelled really good, but somehow the flavor was not as present as the smell suggested. Again though it had really big chunks of meat in it which is always a plus. I do love when a restaurant doesn't skimp on the meat portions in their dishes. All in all, I really like this place and would definitely go back. There were several other things on the menu that looked good that I want to try, and I will absolutely have to get the sea salt coffee again. read more
Small Vietnamese joint at Argyle with a great selection of Vietnamese favorites, as well as some off-the-cuff dishes that you don't find much elsewhere. Upon recommendation by Vietnamese friends, opted for the mi quang with chicken and shrimp (also asked for extra broth). This was a great noodle dish - very flavorful and aromatic with the turmeric and galangal. Even with extra broth, I wish it came with even more cause it was so good. Fatter noodles compared to pho. A great dish to order when there! Also got a refreshing lychee smoothie - yums. The owners were there and were lovely people who provided great service. Love supporting smaller Asian businesses so definitely a good place to hit up especially for AAPI month read more

Delicious Vietnamese food! Like some of the other reviewers said they have more unique items on their menu other than pho so we decided to try some of that! We walked in on a Friday for lunch and we're seated immediately. Everything was delicious. I got the egg coffee which I had never had before and my friend said it tasted just like the ones in Vietnam. We also got the quang mai (chicken and noodle soup dish), pork broken rice, and shrimp cakes. Bill came to $35pp after tip. read more

Found another great Asian place on Argyle. It's pretty easy to do so. DaNang specializes in food from the central Vietnamese region, so you can find some of the more familiar items. Of course there's pho. The inside is kind of small but there's a patio area that's open in good weather. After trying a few other places in this area, we came here. It was pretty good weather so we sat on the patio. The menu is pretty much the typical Vietnamese. Has the familiar items. There's banh mi and pho. I got the Pho Chay, because it's one of the few items that are vegetarian. It's about $14, which is kind of a lot. This is especially a lot for a soup. Fortunately they put a lot into it. There's the noodles, plus lots of tofu and vegetables. Good flavor. This is even better by adding a spice. She had the Bun Chay. This is fried tofu noodles. Good amount of noodles. There also were cucumbers, pickles, and tomatoes. Good stuff to get here. It has kind of high prices, which is the only bad thing about it. This also has authentic options for vegans and vegetarians. read more

Came in on a Sunday for a late lunch/early dinner! It was not that packed, but the place is small so be prepared to wait on busier times! We came to to location mainly because one of our friends was craving banh khot and could only find this location selling it. Overall the food came out in a reasonable time and the service was okay. Coffee: we ended getting this to share because we had previously gotten coffee somewhere else, but still wanted to taste it. We regret our previous choice because this one tasted so much more like Vietnamese coffee! The egg cream is a nice touch and contrast to the bitterness of the coffee as well. 8.5/10 Papaya salad: just a biased review from me. I'm not a huge fan of papaya. It was very refreshing however, but still just not a fan of papaya. 6/10 Banh khot: overall I thought it was expensive for just 6 pieces, but with no other place I know to get from at a restaurant I cannot complain. The flavor itself is very simple and just what I expected. The fish sauce was great as well. Good umami flavor, very easy to eat. RATING: 9.5/10 This might be our new favorite spot in Argyle! Ever since I visited Vietnam, I have been craving Bun Cha, but it's not easy to find in chicago. The dish was just as perfect and flavorful as I remembered it!! Bun Cha - Such a delicious combination of ingredients with a soup/sauce that is to die for. Mi Quang - egg noodles were fantastic, quail eggs were a nice touch, and the pork melted in my mouth. Egg Coffee - SOO DELICIOUS AND SWEET with crushed ice just how it like it. Please visit this place if you're looking to expand palette and try more regional dishes!! read more
My go to for Mi Quang whenever I visit Chicago! Their broth is a bit salty, but balance really well with the chewy noodle. I often like to eat it with chicken rather than pork but that is for your references. I also tried the papaya salsf today, they're using calamansi as the sauce paste and I love that. Ehh, I have mixed feelings about this place, but giving them the benefit of the doubt. I've ordered take out from here once, and more recently, dined at this location on their patio during Argyle Nights (Thursdays in the summer). The first take out experience, the food came in an okay timely manner, but the food was just meh to me. Nothing exciting. The most recent time for dinning in, the place was packed (especially take out orders). Oddly, we had to order at the front and then they told us to keep checking back to see when our order was ready. Kind of a weird system considering there was someone coming out and cleaning tables and who looked like they were bringing out food to other guests. Anyways, our food took quiteeeee a while. A lot longer than they had quoted. Eventually we got our food brought out to us, but in all to-go packaging, which was annoying considering we told them we were dining in. The food itself was good, but I don't know if I would justify paying $18 for their shrimp/crabs appetizer given the amount you receive. The super popular spicy beef noodle soup from central VN. Da Nang is close neighboring town, but has a nice spin on it. Worth a try! Bun cha Ha Noi - 5/5 - delicious spin of a widely popularized dish of rice vermicelli dish with grilled pork from northern VN - the one President Obama ate while visiting Vietnam. Worth a try! Bun mam - 5/5 - a sweet savory fermented fish noodle soup from southern VN; it may have a strong taste for those unfamiliar Passionfruit sparkle (soda) - 5/5 Passionfruit smoothie - 5/5 - a rich, creamy with real passionfruit taste. Definitely perfect to pair up with the bun bo Da Nang to cool off the spicy heat! A must try!!! Stopped by pretty late, about 45 minutes before closing. The dining room was almost full, still. Regardless, I got seated immediately. They handed the menu to me. Iced water was served immediately. First time being in this restaurant, I had no idea what I wanted to order. I knew I would love to have a good bowl of hot soup, since it was pretty chilly outside, and I just finished my daily walk by the lake. I decided to get the Seafood Pho (#60) Waiter assured me that I made a good choice! And I certainly hoped that, too. My pho arrived very quickly. It was hot (temperature wise) and had 3 pieces of shrimp in it, plus some other unknown fish ... It had rice noodles what I really loved! The broth was not tasty at all. As a matter of fact, I think it was plain boiled water ... so I quickly added some spices to it from the condiment tray on the table. Obviously I don't know how to make this dish better, but I really didn't like it, ate maybe half of it. I wish the broth was a real soup, like chicken flavored of something ... Anyway, I saw other people were pretty happy with their orders! Probably they knew the menu better than I did. Servers were very nice, polite. read more
