I love Kim and the Collab Salon. The first time I called, shortly after I moved to Boise, I spoke to Kayla, the owner, and she highly recommended Kim ... and she didn't steer me wrong. Kim knows how to do anything with hair, but the thing she does best is listen. I've brought photos, I've asked her opinion and she's always straight with me. If she thinks something won't look good for my face shape or what I've said I want long term, she'll tell me ... like the time I suffered through growing out my bangs, then suddenly wanted to cut them again. She suggested waiting till our next appointment to see if that's really what I wanted ... and it wasn't. I've thanked her ever since for saving me from myself. She's always early (like I am) and ready to rock when I get there. Even if Bown Crossing isn't right around the corner for you, you'll be happy you made the drive. And you can always stop in at Boise Fry, Bown Tavern, Cravins or one of the other great places to eat that are all right there. read more

In the 30 minutes my appointment lasted, Terra: - told me my short hair was "flouting societal conventions", and not in a good way - told me everyone in my profession (software engineering) has the same personality - told me my hair was too thick - complained she was now going to be covered in my hair for the rest of the day - gave me a meh haircut As an aside, I'm really unimpressed by the practice in Boise of discriminating on haircut prices based on gender. Saw Ranae. Horrid. Gave me EXACTLY the hair cut I did not want -- after I explained what I did not want. Then proceeded to tell me how I should come to see her: with dry hair, so she could see what she's doing. At $50 a haircut! I got a haircut you'd get at those places where it's $10 a haircut. And basically, I was told it was my fault. The salon is a dive. Would not recommend either going there or seeing Ranae. Horrible experience. read more

They do carry really great products here. Which was the reason I chose to try out the salon. I went for a women's haircut and the communication must have been really lacking, But somehow my haircut was completely botched. I looked alot better walking in than out. This is an odd place . Not bad if you're looking for a cheap haircut but keep in mind you get what you pay for . ( I was charged $97 for a wash , trim and blow dry including tip ) so it's definitely one of the less expensive "salons" in Boise . However From the get go the vibes are off . They don't have receptionists here so upon walking in you are greeted by multiple ppl ( while they are doing someone's hair ) and asked who you are seeing until they figure out who you have an appointment with . Once they seat you They offer you water or coffee if you say water they give it to you in an open cup / without a lid . And not from a bottle. No bueno . The salon chairs are also uncomfortable . Not exactly the place you would want to go to for a nice trip to the salon . Not exactly a sophisticated , hip , bright establishment either. Kind of sad because hardly anyone was there getting their hair done and the whole atmosphere just seemed outdated .. don't get me wrong , they are Worth checking out because they sell Oribe products but they're about the only salon I've ever been to who doesn't push you or even mention to purchase them . So that could be good for some ppl. I on the other hand love new products and willing to spend money on them . They like to get you in then get you out as fast as possible . So I think it's more of a barber shop type place / sportclips type than an actual salon type place with reoccurring clients . It reminds me of a hair place in Nampa I went o once when I was 12 so it's at the bottom of places I would go to in this town . read more

She saw my hair and photos I brought with me, and right away knew how it would look best. She was spot on, I will definitely be visiting again. I LOVE the Collab salon, the ambiance of the place is perfect! It's extremely nice and they use high quality products. I go to Alyssa for my hair & will always go to her but Heck, i would trust anyone at that salon to do my hair! Everyone is so nice & everyone's hair I've seen that's been done there has always looked perfect! Alyssa also is good about letting you know about products that will help your hair but will NEVER pressure you to buy them. I highly suggest this salon, and I highly suggest Alyssa, but if you can't get in with her I would trust anyone there! read more

The Collab Salon is fantastic. I have been going there for almost 4 years. The owner is very nice and very attentive to all the patrons. Terra is an exceptional stylist. My hair has never been so healthy since she became my stylist 3 years ago and I always get compliments on my haircuts thanks to her efforts. I have gotten to know her very well since I am there for several hours during each visit, she is a great person and I enjoy our chats. I highly recommend the salon and Terra. I have been to this salon a few times since moving to Boise, I was going to Tessa who was awesome! The last time I went was the first time they were allowed to open since Covid shutdown. I understand businesses may be doing things differently, however I do not believe that excuses a business to charge customers for services they're not receiving. I paid for a haircut and blow dry/style but had to leave with wet hair due to Covid reasons, just wish the cost would have been altered. read more

This salon is wonderful. Beautiful relaxing decor, prime location. Very convenient and easy parking (unlike usual Downtown salons). Cole has excellent taste, kind, Professional, worldly experienced, and goes above and beyond to exceed all of his clients expectations. is amazing at hair and makeup. Collab is the salon to go to for color in Boise! The atmosphere is very welcoming yet hip. The stylists are friendly and fantastic. I have very dry hair and coloring it doesn't help. Kayla has helped bring my hair back to health and finally achieved the color I was going for after months of different stylists at other salons. Strongly recommend you give Collab a try! read more

I had an appt eod 4/12 for lowlights. Afterwards, I scheduled an appt for the same on 7/8 (12 wks out). The next morning, 4/13, I noticed my hair was super copper/red and some streaks of pink/purple in a very small section....which was not my intention, so I stopped by the salon (we are talking about 12 hrs after my 1st appt) asking for the next available appt for the person who did my hair to fix it w/ some additional toner, since the toner that was used didn't quite work as it usually does. I had to wait until Fri 4/29 (a little over 2 wks) to have this corrected. It was hard to wait, but I understand these things sometimes happen and I really liked the person that did my hair. She did a great job fixing my hair and as expected said there was no charge and if she did ask for payment, I would have paid whatever amount, but just would have thought that was odd. It's pretty standard practice that in a small % of cases this is needed. So then after leaving I received a voice mail saying: "This is one of the owners of the salon and I'm calling regarding your no payment made today for your hair appt this morning. We noticed there was no payment made for an appt booked over the phone this last Tuesday (not true see above) for a partial highlight, root touch up and a haircut (all not true see above) and just wondering why no payment was made." Then a few minutes later I received a text message that my upcoming appt for 7/8 had been cancelled. It was such a ridiculous, pathetic message for a "partial-owner" to leave. Obviously, this person failed at even doing the most basic easy to validate research into the situation. How desperate and sad. There are so many other options available out there than this place. It's my opinion, to be wary about leaving a credit card on file as a hold when making an appt w/ this type of confusion going on. Thank you for cancelling my future appt. I appreciate it and I'm glad to hear from several of your employees that their future career plans don't include working there. Also, I find it odd this salon would always say: "you're scheduled also for a haircut, aren't you getting a haircut" and no, a haircut was never scheduled, just a color. What kind of business practice is that? read more

After a second *very* successful visit to the collab salon I figured it was time to give them the praise they deserve! From the first time I scheduled to when I walked out the door after my appointment, all of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and I have been all around impressed with my experience! The salon is beautiful which is a bonus, but the real win is the beautiful hair that Cole does!! I've never had a cut that suits me so well, and he truly does what's best for the client in cut/color. Most amazing salon I've ever been to. Right when you walk in the door you are greeted with a smiling face asking if you want water, coffee, wine, or even a snack?!?! WHAT! Amazing!! Every time i have been in i has absolutely loved my hair. All the stylists are educated on the hair products, as well as all of the up to date hair colors (balayage/ombré) Everyone is personable and makes you feel right at home. The stylists seem to love their job and their coworkers!! Such an AMAZING atmosphere! Not to Mention if you are hungry there are millions of places, and my stylist was sweet enough to run across the street and grab the food i ordered from flatbread! Incredible! I desperately needed a haircut and called. Jess was able to squeeze me in due to a cancellation. The salon is visually stunning. Perhaps the most gorgeous salon I have ever been in. Jess was kind and friendly and took her time; even though it was a simple hair cut. Additional plus: the wash station did not hurt my neck! Most of the time the bowl digs into my neck but this one did not which I greatly appreciated. Long story short (haha pun!) Jess did a wonderful job on my hair and I definitely recommend her. I don't even know where to begin. First of all, I don't have slick, straight pretty hair, and I never fucking will. My hair is FUCKED. UP. and has always been FUCKED.UP. and that's ok. If I can get a color I like, that's about the best I can do. I reached out when I booked the appointment to the stylist.Day OF the appointment, two hours prior, I get a reconfirmation. I said I was indeed coming in.I instantly knew this was the wrong girl. Anyhow, when I get there she tells me she isn't sure if she'd have time to do my hair. I booked WAY ahead of time. I'm talking 2 weeks-ish at LEAST. In my message, when I booked, I SAID CALL ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.No.Instead, she did a half job, charged me for a fucking FULL job , and left like 1.5 inches of mousy ashy brown hair, partially highlighted, with copper rest of it, and darker red underneath. what the actual FUCK.I didn't walk out, because my time is LIMITED and I don't HAVE. HELP. WITH . my kid. * shocking * *I know*.They charged me an inaccurate amount of money for a job they knew I hated, and offered one time slot to re-do with a different stylist ( the owner?). That is NOT . HOW. To do. business. This salon is for the Basics in town, and the elderlies. It's freaking gorgeous inside, so I'll say that. Anyhow, do NOT come here. It looks pretty , but that's all yr gonna get.idk. Maybe other people there know what they were doing, but I was grossed the fuck out at how the owner dealt with my hating my hair. A friendly and edgy environment that welcomes old and new friends. On My first visit to the shop, I was greeted and cared for like an old friend. Cole, the owner, took his time to understand my perspective on the desired end state and crafted a way ahead using his technical expertise and knowledge of color to formulate a plan specific to my needs. The result, a perfect color and cut achieving the look others were mystified by or not willing to try. The entire experience was such a pleasure and extremely well priced.
