Well this review needed to be made long time ago. I've gone to Vanessa to do my hair before she even had her own salon. That's how long I've trusted her with my hair. I don't get my hair done with her anymore because I moved far and her hours don't work with mine but that is not her fault. Vanessa is extremely talented in her craft. When someone needs a recommendation to get their hair done, she is the first person that comes to mind. Not only is she an amazing hair stylist, but she is very generous and has a heart of gold. With that said, I read two reviews regarding her "bad attitude" and left a 1 star. First of all, time is money. She has other clients and it wouldn't be fair for them to loose hair time because someone is late. If she is flexible with everyone, then everyone would complain that she wasn't "professional" because she's always late. So if you're late, that's not her fault, it's yours. If this is your first time with her, I recommend you google her location a head of time, find where to park, add 15-30 mins to your commute, and/or ask her. I was really hesitant about getting my hair done as I have extremely curly hair and I had did a big chop to get my hair healthy and have grown it so much... however Connie Lira worked her magic. She put my nerves at ease and did wonders. I wanted to go lighter and showed her pictures and she did her best to get it as light as possible this first time around without damaging my hair! I really didn't know what I get getting myself into after not having dyed hair for 6 years and I really wanted some color in my hair since my entire closet is black. You see, when I take photos with friends and family, my head always looks like it's floating and you can't even see how long and beautiful my hair is. My story is this. I actually bought 2 box dyes from Target and my hair did not take the color and only dyed my roots (dont ask me why). I even tried it a 2nd time and no luck. So I had to do something to fix this clown hair that Nutrisse gave me. That's when I recall seeing Vanessa's work on Instagram and it started popping up on my Facebook since she's done a lot of my friend's hair too, I didn't look further and called her right away and told her my situation. From the looks on Instagram, I was sold and looked no further. I booked her online (ONLY way to book!) and had a waiting list of 3 weeks. So I waited since I know she does good work. At first, I was lost finding her place. I was driving around in circles trying not to get into a accident. Then I gave up and ended up parking inside a public parking structure. I decided to walk on foot and found it on the CORNER of the street and inside are different studio rooms and I found her studio immediately. I was glad and relieved since I was lost and was a bit late to my appointment. I walked into a oh so cute studio! It's a black and white themed with mirrors everywhere. Very very cute space! She was welcoming, had me sit down and put this thing over me so the dye won't ruin my clothes. I told her what I wanted and how my hair was and she did the rest. She even recommended this color to me that I had no idea how it looks and trusted her to work her magic. And she did! Fast forward....my hair came out FANTASTIC! She even took time to curl my hair to show me how beautiful the highlights were. I'm so in love with my new hair. She did exactly what I wanted and more! Been getting a lot of compliments on my new hair and it feels great. She's so good that I made another appointment for a Brazilian Blow Out (1st time) next week. While her work is great, when you work in the hair industry you should you should have a level of professionalism and not such a big attitude. I arrived 13 minutes late to my appointment as I texted before hand I would be 10 minutes late. Upon arrival she immediately stated I was 15 minutes with an attitude and stated she would not be able to do the service requested which was a baylage and so forth and could do "tone" my blonde until my next appointment and/or reschedule. While it does state it in her website that is important to be on time and her 15 minute rule; as a daughter of a hairstylist there must be some room to flexibility when a new client comes in. Her work is great this is a reflection of her lack of professionalism and attitude. I understand she has policies but you don't scold a client like a 2 year old, I'm not a child. I live near USC there was a football game, while I understand that's none of her concern she didn't even let me explain. I left with no service after she generously stated she could tone me or try to do something and let "leave wet". Who says that? All because she didn't have an "assistant" that day. I'm so happy that I finally found a hairstylist who knows what she's doing and is overall professional, fun, and I can tell she loves what she does because she's great at it. I walked in looking like cousin ITT from Addams Family except with damaged long hair. I originally wanted honey brown with highlights but Vanessa was honest with me and that look wasn't going to work for me bc of how damaged my hair was. I cut more than 8 in of my hair and felt so relieved about it. We decided on a purple and I love my new hairstyle. I walked out of The Coulour Room feeling like a new mommy. Vanessa is a hair color whiz!!!! She's known for her balayage technique. The color blends so seamlessly and she's incredibly honest about the process. It's important for her to keep your hair healthy so she won't make false promises and process the hell out of your hair all at once. She's also a Brazilian blow out guru! When I first considered getting a Brazilian blow out, my previous hair stylist warned me about having to sit in a chair for 4 hours while she processed my hair. She also mentioned that I wouldn't be able to even put my hair up for 3 days because it would leave an "imprint" in my hair (weird I know). I was also worried because I like the lazy waves in my hair, I really just wanted to combat the frizz. I mentioned this to a friend and she suggested I got to Vanessa. Vanessa reassured me that my hair would still have its wave, but frizz free and a lot easier to manage. The entire process probably took an hour, and when she was done she washed my hair and proceeded to blows dry it...and my hair was dry in exactly 8 minutes flat. I have a ton of hair, and it normally takes me at least 20 minutes (when I'm done it looks like a giant poof). When Vanessa was done blow drying my hair, it was not frizzy at all, but still managed to have it's natural somewhat wavy texture. I was super happy with the results, and continue to do the Brazilian every couple of months for maintenance. I highly recommend giving it a try if you have any issues with frizz. Vanessa is wonderful! Super personable, funny and does amazing balayage highlights, cuts, and styling. It was my first time doing highlights without foils and I'll never go back to the foil method. I love my color - much more natural and should grow out much nicer than the yucky foil stripe I've been used to a month after getting my hair done.
