This place is great. Wide open layout. Good prices for the most part...the staff are all amazing. Comedy in La Jolla!! Good stuff. Came here to see Mateo Lane. Great show but the venue is just ok in my opinion. Sold out shows means you're sharing a tiny table barely large enough for your 4 drinks. We showed up during the opening act (late) and were sat right by the door. Totally fine UNTIL they sat two people behind us on the bench against the wall. I had to move my chair basically into the walkway (#firehazard) so that the girl behind me could have her legs on the floor rather than sit crisscross apple sauce on the bench. The two drink minimum didn't really bother me. The tickets were pretty cheap and I'd rather spend money on booze than pay for expensive tickets AND expensive booze. I really liked that they had proper glasses. I assumed I'd be getting my wine in a plastic cup. Staff was friendly and we didn't have any issues there. read more

Came here on a Saturday night (06/19) to celebrate my birthday. Doors opened at 6:15P and the show started at 7P. I drove down from Vegas and was worried that I wouldn't be able to make it, since I got there right at 7, but thankfully that wasn't the case. Definitely show up 10-15 minutes earlier if you want decent parking. Do not park at Vons, because they will tow your car. I had to park about 10 minutes away since I showed up right on time. The doormen and other staff were very friendly. There's a two item minimum per person. My boyfriend and I don't drink, so we just ordered a redbull, coffee, bottled water, and some popcorn. Our bill came out to be $21 after tip. At the time, they were not serving food (aside from popcorn), so don't come hungry. Steve Rannazzisi was headlining & Cort McCown opened for him. Last minute went to see Pauly Shore last night. Parking wasn't an issue. Not every seat in the house is the best, I got seated in front of a pole. So there's some maneuvering that may need to be done depending on what time you get there, where you're seated and how tall you are. Came on a Saturday night for the early of two shows by the same comedian. I loved that the performer wanted a fully vaccinated crowd. It made me feel more comfortable and it isn't something you see in SD too often so I was glad to get some "use" out of my vax card. It was enforced at the door and I didn't experience any traumatic doorman experiences like I read about in other reviews. We sat in the front row which was both a great and terrible decision - as these kinds of things go I ended up the punchline of the last joke which created an embarrassing memory (in a good/funny way.) The drinks were just okay. There was a two drink minimum - I'm not sure if that is standard for all their shows or just the one we saw. It would have been easier if our server had been around more or if there had been an easier way to summon her when we were ready to order another round. The drinks were - eh. Nothing I'd be excited to come back and order. But I didn't pick The Comedy Store because of the drinks- I came to laugh. The show was great and the venue is intimate. i purchased 3 tickets for Dec 10th show staring Michael Palascak. Arrived at 6pm since thats what they said doors would be open first come frist serve. The gentlemen who opened the door said will now not open till 6:30 and you have to stand in line. Very rude and mean tone of voice. This was a gift for my sister birthday who also just found out she has Parkinson's. Her anxiety kicked in since she also asked where should we park that's safe. He said no place is safe. Although not as good as the GOAT in LA, we had a great time here seeing Nick Swardson (who was hilarious!) I thought I'd shake things up a bit by complaining about the laughably shocking OVERLY OBNOXIOUS rude bouncer who walks out the front door howling at the patrons in line in a loud fake low gruff voice. I do see reading the lowest reviews first that he is a common subject, his obnoxiously rude for no reason behavior going back for years, even frightening people in 16 plus complaints. Must be the owner's son. Then there's the seating dude. We thought we'd pick some place to sit we'd like since we were second in line but NO. We have to follow him and he seats us with our chins just about on the stage. I told him I wanted to sit back a bit and he says NO! YOU'LL SIT HERE BECAUSE WE'RE FILLING UP THE FRONT FIRST!!! If we moved back after he left he probably would have thrown us out. Drinks on the menu they didn't have. We walked around La Jolla quite a bit before the show and I wanted something refreshing like a Heineken. On the menu was Heineken - no alcohol only, what? On the menu list iced tea, no iced tea, no lemonade. I picked a dark beer, it was hard to drink disgusting. Sugary Coke and water were the two choices when she came back to take our second drink order. ??? I wasn't in the mood for wine. Waitress server looked like she'd been through a hurricane, sweaty, ruffled and worn out serving all those people the two drink minimum, I gave her a fatter tip, I felt sorry for her. I give the comedians E for effort. It's hard to look like you're enjoying yourself when you want to run for the hills. Find fun elsewhere. read more

We bought resale tickets off of vivid seats in May for Tony Hinchliffe two days after they went on sale.Our friends got tickets from the comedy store ticket website and yesterday messaged me saying they got an emailing from the comedy store saying resale tickets will not be allowed and at least one name on the tickets has to match the id being presented at the door. I tried calling the venue but it just kept ringing so I reached out to them on instagram. Nowhere on their site does it state resale tickets are not aloud. If they don't accept resale tickets they shouldn't allow sites like Ticketmaster and vivid seats to sell them. Their response was it says it on the tickets we sale. read more

The "sketchiest" place in La Jolla indeed (according to the people who work here LOL). But the best place to get laughs that's for sure. They have free shows every once in a while if you sign up for their email list so I got to see Julian McCollough for free. The only thing you pay for is drinks when that happens. There are both alcoholic & non alcoholic options. Since I don't drink, I went with your typical coca-cola. Lowkey the coke was expensive. $5 for a cup of practically ice and a splash of coke. But the show I went to was free so guess I can't complain much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Seats are first come, first serve. If you come early enough you can either get seats right in front of the comedian where you are guaranteed to be made fun of, or you can get the row right behind in which you are safe but still close enough. The place is pretty small inside but it has good vibes. Not gonna lie tho, when I went, the worker at the comedy store who said he lives in the van was the funniest one of the night. I'm not kidding when I say he was 10x funnier than the headliner. Someone give that kid his own show, PLEASE. read more

The Place is dated but functional. The only food is Popcorn so you better eat before you go. The atmosphere is dark with a stage right in front against the far wall has you walk in past the bar. So we get there and the building is right off the main street. And right be hide it there is a shopping plaza, small. So we parked there not knowing what's to come. We walking to the entrance and there is a line of people getting ID cards checked. Idk if they had an incident in the past from someone with a fake ID but some of us are showing clearly they are definitely over 21, I''m just saying.. We get sitting on the back right side of the building along the wall on a bench seat with a small round table that we shared with another couple we did not know. I was thinking with all the people expected because it was SOLD OUT would we be able to see or hear well enough for each comedian. It turned out we had a very good spot and could see and hear everything!!! The drinks were flowing and the jokes were being delivered. We were gifted a live singing performance at a comedy club how often does that happen!!! It's was a historically good time with lots of laughs!!!! Tommy Davidson was the head liner which made up for the terrible parking, we didn't get towed by the way but had to move the car.We had 3 rounds with 2 drinks for 2 people, the bill with tip was $115.20, so be aware of the price. After the show was over there a chance to meet a greet some of the comedian if you choose to stand in another line. Like I always say try it you may just like it. read more

I love coming to see comedy here. They get some top notch acts. We are regulars and really enjoy Lou the musician who is on before the acts come out. They had some issues with their bathrooms but it looks like there's some remodeling going on as last week when I went they had modular ones, so looks like things are going to improve. Catch a show here!! Such a cute little stand up club and the ambiance is perfect. We got seated in the front row and it was the best night. There was a two drink minimum with your ticket and me and my date ordered one drink at a time and the service was perfectly timed to order our second. The espresso martini was to die for, more on the chocolatey side if that's your thing. Two openers and a main comedian and all three were good. Perfect date night. Two drink min means you will never have to flag down the waitress or waiter Cons: Street parking is a challenge so come early. For the late show expect that the doors will open late, like 30-45min late. Two poles in the room seem to be the hang out area for staff and photographers. My husband and I love this venue and come here almost every weekend depending on who is performing. Sometimes we don't even know the performer but go anyway knowing that we will have a blast. The guy at the door is super cool, ladies serving drinks are awesome and the rest of the staff is great. When we lived in SF Bay Area we frequented Cobbs and Punchline, so we were very excited to find The Comedy store upon our move to SD. Can't wait to go back next weekend. Always have a great time! This is going to be short and sweet cuz there's not a lot to write about it. We went to see Ali Saddiq. The chairs are not the most comfortable. Make sure you have your ID and your tickets. Otherwise you're not getting in. We got there around 5: 20 and we got in line and were second in line at 5:45. Doors opened at 6:15. Make sure that you do not park in the Vons parking lot because if so you can be towed. There is public parking by the CVS that's right down the street and is like a minute walk away. There's also street parking if you get there in time. The street parking was free. PLEASE BE AWARE THERE IS NOTHING TO EAT IN THIS COMEDY CLUB. It's the first time I've ever been to a comedy club and there's no food. Well actually, you can buy a small paper bag of popcorn for $5. I don't know why you would do that but you can. I put it in all caps because I searched for days trying to figure out the menu and there isn't one. There's a two drink minimum and it doesn't have to be alcoholic. If you want sodas coffee, hot tea, iced tea or bottled water, it's $6. I suggest ordering both of your two drinks and paying at the very beginning so that way you don't have to worry about being interrupted or trying to find your waitress while the show is going on. Unlike a lot of comedy clubs. This one only had two people per table at least for the ones right in front of the stage which was really nice because trying to share those tiny tiny tables with four people just would not have worked. We got the VIP so we were right in front which was awesome because Ali likes to talk to people and he doesn't make fun of you. He just brings you into the conversation. read more

However the customer service from the host who was seating people and covering the restroom was rude and provide pretty bad customer service. I called again the next day multiple times and no one ever picked up. I sent a follow up email, no response.
