    Great comics.

You might miss it walking by, except for the samdwich board that points you down to an intimate room, butTommy Nicchi has carried on a family tradition of bringing great local and national comedians to a stage in the basement of this beautiful old building. I am a fan of the hummus plate but the food has been good on every trip and I have been to shows with 15 people in attendance and sold out, and enjoyed it just as much. There is also trivia and open mic nights there. Highly recommend.

This is really a great venue for a performance. It seats just under 500 people and has no…read moreobstructions. It is home to a troupe called Home Made Theater. They have been performing since 1985. We came to see Miracle On 34th Street. Having seen the movie almost as many times as years-old my teeth are, I was looking forward to seeing how the story would be developed for the stage. It was a very lovely production with some actors exuding the same persona as their respective movie character. Others confused me slightly because the sex of the character was changed so that I had to get use to a female performing the role played by a male in the movie. But the story line remained true and the entire cast provided an exemplary performance. I would suggest you arrive early. While the parking lots are not far away, if there is anything close to a sellout crowd you will likely have a decent walk to the entrance. The seats are very comfortable but the leg room is a bit tight.

We came early for a parking space which was smart. At 2:10 we are still waiting for the play to…read morestart because people seem to think it is OK to come late and the production will be held for them. It isn't even checking vaccination status that slows it down, it is inconsiderate people showing up late. The production can't start until they are seated because the actors would be sidelined because of people coming in late. They need to close the doors at 2 and make people wait until intermission, then they'll get the message. No concessions to speak of. No snacks, no beer or wine. I saw water and ginger ale. It will be nice when this fledgling theatre finally gets off the ground. Doubtful to return until then. The play and actors were great. Really enjoyed it. Plus no hearing loop, but I know that comes much later, more established theatres don't have it. Difficult for hearing impaired.

It was a private home, a casino, and now a museum. The downstairs shares space with a private hall for weddings and the like. The museum gives a quick history of the area from the early Indians discovering the mineral springs through the depression and after. Upstairs the house is divided into different areas. The back follows the life of the Victorian and guilted age family that lived there. The front is done up as a guilted age casino to show how men would have gambled when the term 'gentleman's club' did not mean strippers. One room has a display of first world war memorabilia that maybe sums up a lot of what I didn't like here. For war coverage it was somewhat inadequate, alternating between bare bones basics "we declared war on Germany" and so minutia, the personal props picked up at the front by a local man. The plaque said he got these over two years at the front, a neat trick unless he served in the French army first since US troops only hit the trenches in late 1917. Instead of maybe saying what the locals did in the war, how many served etc, it seems to be limited to just what someone found in his basement. There is also a large room given over to a huge number of black and white photo portraits of famous people. Why they were there, the relationship between the society/house/photographer was never quite clear. There was also a sense of being rushed. The front steps were picturesque and with a wedding being hosted in the other part of the house, the steps were being used for photos, making getting in/out awkward at best. Also the woman running the shop/museum seemed to be in a rush as she started turning off the lights nearly half an hour before the posted closing time-guess she had something more important to do.
