We were passing through the area and felt like a good sandwich. Searched Yelp...boom...this came up. When we pulled up, we weren't sure what to expect. Pretty underwhelming looking building with a lot of cars all parked poorly...even though there was plenty of parking spaces. My guess is they were excited and/or in a rush for a delicious sandwich? Yes...that's probably it!! There were about 6 people inside waiting for their orders and probably another 6 sitting and eating. Thankfully there were a couple of open seats for us. Since we don't eat in our car. While we waited for our sandwiches, we watched the staff and customers. Many seemed to be regulars from the area, as they knew exactly what they wanted and how they wanted their sandwich. We did not..LOL we stared at the lunch board for a bit an decided to go with a couple of the special named sandwiches. The staff was pretty quiet, heads down, working fast with an immense amount of focus. I chose the Honey Bee sandwich - it was soooo good. The honey mustard was a great twist. The sandwich was also beautifully made. Ingredients carefully stacked - just the right amount of honey mustard. The pleasant surprise....the zesty pita chips...sooooo addictive! We hope to be back in this area again soon to try their sandwiches. Again, the inside is very small - get it to go if you aren't able to find a seat. All I can say is that guy who left the 3 star review, saying he can get a better sub at subway, has horrible taste in subs. Imagine liking old stale bread, and old mushy vegetables over this place!!!! This place is 10 stars out of 5. Best subs I've ever had, hands down, without a doubt. read more

Looking for a place to grab lunch, I decided to stop by Honey Ham & Subs, which is located next door to the Bowl-O-Rama. It was a cold raw Saturday, parking lot very packed, and there was a glow in the dark bowling event in full effect, so no open bowling (rats!). I popped in and checked out the posted menu which offers cold deli subs and hot subs, specialty sandwiches, salads, soups, chili, chicken tenders, fries, and onion rings. They use Dietz & Watson meats on their made to order subs. The prices however are on the higher side (it's Portsmouth!): small subs ($5.99-$7.25), large subs ($6.50-$7.50), and specialty sandwiches ($7.50-$7.99). A half sub & cup of soup special is $7.99. I decided to order a large Honey Ham Sub ($6.75 plus tax) which was made quickly. The large honey ham sub (11 inches) did not seem large for the price ($7.36 with tax) and not overstuffed with ham & condiments (lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, cheese) on a good crusty Italian sub roll. On the flipside, I could order a very tasty and filling $5 Footlong Black Forest Ham Sub at Subway and load up that "sucker" with an entire salad bar. The sub I had tasted pretty good though. Talk about a hidden gem. On the suggestion of coworkers, my husband and I ordered from Honey Ham & Subs today, and think that this could very well be our sub shop of choice from here on out. We tried the House Club Sub - roast beef, peppered turkey, bacon & cheese (amazing) - and the Smoke Stack Sub - smoked ham, smoked turkey, bacon and swiss (a bit too peppery for our tastes, but good). There are about 7 different sub specials, and about two dozen sandwiches on the menu, plus the typical sides. We also tried the fries, which I believe are now my favorite fries in Portsmouth. If you like fries from Wing-Its or Cafe Nostimo, you'll enjoy these too. This place also makes its own homemade pita chips, and sells them in bags to go, but you can sample them first - the ranch are a great twist, but they offer fiesta (spicy), plain salted, and cinnamon sugar. The hours are weird - they're not open too late throughout the week - but if you're craving a good sub for lunch, you will not be disappointed if you try this place. read more

Real nice couple own this clean sub shop. We had the Sante Fe Club (1/2) with a cup of corn chowder and it made for a delicious lunch. Too bad more people don't know about it, as it's a wonderful option to grab a quick lunch. They use high-quality meats and work hard to maintain a clean and pleasant shop. I haven't found a better sub shop around Portsmouth. I really like the Honey Bee, 2 kinds of ham and then bacon. It's like the ultimate pig sandwich! If you think Subway is shit, if you think Moe's is too Italian (all oil and Italian meats), then I think Honey Ham is the sweet spot. I also like their fries and pita chips. read more

I gave it a try today. told the friendly sandwich guy that i wanted to try to duplicate a Moes. He laughed and took charge. black forest ham, genoa, provolone peppers onions and tomatoes on the best sub roll ever. The taste test proved it a winner hands down. Absolutely fabulous. I have been going to Honey Ham & Subs (The Hamstore) since 2005 and absolutely love it for several reasons, the first of which is the food. Always fresh, always made quickly and their Italian is the best in town - Moe's lovers stand aside because Honey Ham & Subs does it right!. Jorge is the man! Always smiling, happy to chat, greets everyone when they walk in and has become a mainstay in the city of Portsmouth. I call my order in and drive straight there because by the time I get there my sub is ready (I live right down the road) so you don't have to wait in line during a busy lunch rush. Used to go there for lunch when I was in High School and never stopped. Homemade pita chips are delicious! If you like a little zing on your sub then get the Cajun Mayo - It makes for the BEST Italian subs.
