We went here by recommendation and sadly never got to even try the food. The staff at this place are definitely not in the right industry. We went with our son and went to the actual restaurant side and stood at the window and that must've been a bother because no one approached(at least 3 people behind the counter and not busy) us so we headed over to the bar in which the bartender said we couldn't sit in the bar because of our son. Okay where can we sit? She said oh you guys can go out to the Tiki bar, okay awesome! Well they had entertainment and we were immediately told we couldn't be there either so back to the "dining room of 4 tables" we sat down thinking maybe it's like a normal restaurant...nope after 10 additional minutes no one approached us so we left! Definitely disappointed because we were told the food was good but lack of customer service is a reason not to go back! You know me, I'm always on the lookout for a good place to stop for a hot dog. With a name like The Coney Island I knew that this place should at least be along those lines. I usually don't lean too much on review for hot dog places as they are not always the best. People either love or hate a hot dog, there is no in between. Maybe, just this once, I should have relied on the reviews, as I was about to be disappointed. I showed up in between meal rushes which meant that there was no rush to place a order. This place also looks like they do a steady drive thru/phone in order service. So even if it does not look busy in terms of people inside they are always working. I figured when I came in here I would give a few things a try. I took a minute to look over the menu before I made my order. I decided to go with two Cheese Coney Dogs, an order of fries, an order of mac n cheese, and an order of pierogi, top it off with a large ginger ale. I know that seems like a large order of food, but I had intension of taking some back to my room with me for later on. After placing my order I find myself a place to sit and wait for my food to be prepared. Part way through the preparation of my food, and after already paying for it, they tell me they are out of mac n cheese. OK, no big deal, and then they ask me if I wanted to substitute something in since I paid. I just said double the pierogi. An afterthought here, the pierogi were cheaper than the mac n cheese, so instead of giving me the small refund, they made a profit off of being out of mac n cheese. The hot dogs were pretty good. Fresh off the gridle, topped with cheese and a boatload of onions. The nice, crispy, crunchy onions. I did devour those. The fries weren't nothing to write home about, they were your basic frozen fries. The pierogi were a bit of a let down. Cooked in the fryer they had no taste whatsoever. Like a tradition pierogi you would expect butter and onion or in the least some poor attempt in giving it some type of seasoning. Being fried and not boiled gave the dough a chewy consistency and you had to choose between eating them bland and dry or dip them in ketchup...don't worry, I am not the one to do such a thing, I know better. The service here was kind of like the pierogi, bland. There wasn't much coordination by those working, nor was there personality. It looked like it was family run with a lot of the people being related. But I did not really feel welcomed here. I felt like I was intruding on their "me" time. They talked to people on the phone a bit rudely, even if it was their mistake of wrongdoing. Constantly bad mouthing the people outside waiting for their orders that weren't ready for the pick up window. Glad I am not a local as I would not want to be put in a position to defend this place, I would make sure it got thrown way under the bus and drive that sucker out of town. read more

It's probably even a waste to write this out. How GROSS. The owner, Micky allows employees to run the show. Smoke WEED to where customers can smell it, and still allows employees to smoke inside. Not only inside but in a customer restroom. I'm appalled. And to say "unsanitary" would be a compliment-no hair nets, gloves, or hand washing. Watched our food change bare hands twice, and then the cook wiped his forehead and proceeded to grab our food with his bare hands. You all should be ashamed. read more

When I lived in the skook for a few years this was my spot. When I moved away I would only visit the skook a few times a year and would always stop. I used to love their coney cheese dogs, but today I couldn't eat them. The staff are all new and I diddnt see any of the regulars I used to see all the time. Idk if they changed hot dog brands or what, but this hot dog tasted boiled not grilled. I hated it sadly. The wings are or were the bomb so I would still go back if I'm in the area I'll just get something else not the hot dogs. I'm from the Lehigh valley and we have yoccos which is wayyyy better. The regulars know theres always a wait. It's best to just go inside, as the drive thru wait is even longer. I never had bad service tho everyone was friendly enough. If your prepared to wait everything comes out hot and fresh. The outside looks way better they have outside seeting now. Lots of wing flavors and the fries and cheese are good. Food is always greasy but pretty darn good regardless, for a local niche dogs and burger place. The poor rating comes from the extremely poor service (the help}. Recently I had to stand and wait over ten (10) minutes just to place an order, then have them take over 15 minutes during lunchtime to get it after paying. I had to listen to one young, hefty overbearing waitress demean and tell the others that she knows what she was doing, but really not doing anything to help the backup. The young male making the burgers and dogs was more interested watching and listening to her antics as he slowly filled the lunch orders for the existing patrons. The place underwent a revision this year and looks better outside. They fixed the parking lot finally, BUT still the HELP STINKS. When I walked up to the counter, the cashier let out a big yawn. She didn't even look at me or greet me. She just stood there. Finally, after a few minutes, she said "what can I get you?" I gave her my order and then my husband ordered. She then said "nineteen bucks." Nope, she didn't say thank you either. The other two gals (one made our milkshakes and the other made our food) were friendly. I've seen pencils thicker than my husband's hot dog! They sure are skimpy on the toppings. Years ago, the onions were piled on! I, myself, worked at Coney many, many years ago. If we had treated a customer like that, we'd be out the door! This place definitely needs an upgrade! The parking lot is a mess, the garbage cans were overflowing, the windows were filthy! Once we sat down, I wished we hadn't ordered yet. We ordered two dozen wings tonight. One had creamy mild sauce and the other had garlic Parmesan sauce. BOTH dozen wings were so spicy we could not eat them. We will never go there again. First visit in 15 years or so... Bar on one side with the "restaurant" on the other. Note that smoking is allowed in the bar and they leave the door open so it wafts into the counter area where you place your order. Once you see the rest of the place the smell of stale smoke is probably a saving grace. Decor is that fake wood paneling that was probably installed in the early 70's and has been there ever since. They also employ someone whose sole job is to man the lottery machine in the back. Menu with prices is well hidden by overhang, you can't actually see what they offer until you're at the counter ready to order. The manager (I assume) taking orders was a pleasant as a rabid wolverine. I think the rest of the staff was either on its first day on the job or the elevator doesn't go to the top floor. From what I could see from the front, and during my wait, Schuylkill County either doesn't have a health inspector, or this place is tipped off on when to expect visits. I've seen more efficient operations on episodes of Restaurant Impossible. Waited 10 minutes for 2 coney burgers and a chicken fingers platter....projectile vomiting on the side of 61 by Deer Lake. Great place for a late night snack after a night of drinking! Chili cheese dogs, w/mustard and raw onion will hit the spot. The heartburn from the chili wail wake the dead! The night crew can turn out the food pretty quickly, but if you are looking for speed and efficiency for breakfast, forget about it! I had to repeat my order to the young cashier 6 times!!! My husband and I were in the area looking at a jeep for sale. On our way home I spotted the sign. Now my husband is a cheeseburger man and I of course love coney island hot dogs. (Being from northern Jersey and visiting Coney Island and having eaten hot dogs there) I told him based on the sign that we should stop in. I ordered 2 dogs for me and 2 cheeseburgers for him. How can anyone give this place a decent review. There used to be a Coney Island in downtown Pottsville but it has been closed for whatever reason. Maybe the original owners retired because the place was there since the 1960's and it was good. The establishment in Yorkville is overpriced, dirty and food was gross. Never to return! Worst food I've ever had fries are horrible pizzas soggy I expect more bang for my buck

Serves up the best wings I've ever eaten (the roasted garlic Parmesan are my go-to flavor). I work night shifts, so I often come in for a late dinner on my days off (between 11 PM-1 AM) and even that late, the staff is courteous and friendly, the restaurant is clean, and I get my order filled very quickly. It's only maybe 1 out of 20 times that I have trouble with the wait time or quality of the food, possibly because of who's on the shift that day. But aside from occasional problems, it's almost always a pleasant experience to dine here. read more
