Such a fun place to shop! You can find practically any of the organizational products you need without having to brave the crowds of other larger stores, like Ikea, to grab similar items, and it's just as much fun. After shopping in the store on and off several times since its opening, I placed my first "Buy Online, Pick-up In Store" order earlier this week. Sometimes these experiences can be hit or miss depending on where you're shopping, but I'm happy to report that their process is a hit! I thought it was a little odd that the Container Store site asked me to choose my pick-up time instead of filling the order ASAP like other spots, but that was just a slight curiosity and nothing major in the long run. I got an email that my order was ready a few hours before my scheduled pick-up time and I ended up grabbing my item yesterday. I approached a gal, Christina, stocking a display and she promptly helped me in getting my "BOPIS" item. In my haste of placing my order online, I didn't shop around the site much and found another item I wanted only after I made my digital purchase, so I asked her if she could please have someone grab it for me as I wasn't feeling particularly well and was also in a little bit of a hurry (what a great combo). In the end, 3 of their employees helped me (Christina at the register and 2 other ladies who tracked down my other item) and they were all super pleasant and friendly. They could have very well been like "just get it yourself!" but the fact that they practiced elevated customer service and I was in and out in a flash was appreciated! I realize this review makes me sound about 98 years old, but I promise I'm just a lady in her late 20s that's been around the customer service block and knows helpful employees when she sees them. I'll definitely be back to purchase more stuff I need - and I promise I'll get all the items myself! read more

I'm purging and organizing things, so I figured I'd get some ideas from TCS, I've wanted to come in forever, finally had energy on a weeknight to get out there, no way in hell am I pushing through crowds on the weekends. Let me preface by saying: my childhood allowance was spent on stickers and office supplies. So when I entered TCS it left my head spinning, this place seriously has something to organize EVERYTHING you can think of. I left with one paltry bag slung over my shoulder, satisfied, but yearning for so much more, good thing I whipped out my camera and took pics for my wishlist. First and foremost, the staff at this store is simply amazing. Friendly, joyful, helpful, and dedicated to finding the right solution! This was my first ever visit to a container store and I have walked away with the same sense of adventure and excitement as I do when leaving iKea. This store contains everything you never knew you needed. The first floor is a lot like a showcase for full on products from baskets to storage containers to bathroom items. If you visit the second floor, you will be greeted by an endless supply of containers. Every shape, size, and color you can imagine is here, and the staff Is good at getting really creative! Lastly, the prices are awesome. Don't get me wrong, you will find some high dollar fancy prices (which isn't a bad thing if that's what you want) but the majority of items are dirt cheap and readily available in massive quantities. Did I mention free parking in the nearest parking garage?!?! I plan on coming back repeatedly now that I have been there once. First thing I said, this is like a smaller IKEA! I love organizers and being organized! Most things in here are like heaven to me. Believe it, it's two stories.. Anyhow, I went in here looking for something specific since I was kind of on a scavenger hunt. My aunt works at a salon and needed one of those containers to hold her hair dye in her locker, but I needed to be a specific size. Boohoo, sadly did not find it anywhere in the store. So much for being a container store where they didn't have the container I needed... And one lady saw I was looking for something but didn't offer or ask to help. Oh well. The customer service is ridiculous,! This story happened in Saturday afternoon, I showed up at 6:30, knowing that closed at 7pm,(at least is what the advertise) well after 25 minutes standing outside waiting, with out anybody acknowledge my presence, I dialed their phone number, they never answered , when I am looking at 4 women passing by the phone. Suddenly it shows a women at the lock door, saying sorry we can't let you in right now, I asked her why?! Irritated for the long waiting. She said because we are close to closing and we have some many people inside. Very frustrated I said so?! Why nobody come and say a thing since I had been waiting for 25 minutes!!!!?, all she limited to say is sorry. I am sorry that on this difficult times people like her have an opportunity to have a job, and do such a shitty work. Needless to said that I saw about 10 people leaving on my 25 minutes long waiting, so I doubt that the capacity was the excuse. read more

Staff at this location is not very friendly. I don't expect perky or bubbly but some of them will either have an attitude or outright ignore you and talk to their friends that walked in while ringing up your order. They do allow animals and it smells like urine and wet dog in and outside the store. It's unsanitary and makes their store look and smell run down. Do yourself and go to Palo Alto, CA. I understand covid measures, but this is excessive! As I'm standing in line I watched 12 people leave just for them the allow to people in to replace. An employee comes out and updates us that the wait will be more than 30-45 minutes longer. Her excuse is the new series on Netflix featuring their store has made them really busy. I call BS. I'm a huge fan of The Container Store simply because they always sell awesome tea / coffee making devices and I love tupperwear of all sorts! Of course this store carries much more than that but they also carry a great variety of cups from which I acquired GINORMOUS cups for work that I can carry tons of coffee and tea in so my lazy butt doesn't have to walk back to the break room! In general, all of the utensils and plates/cups/bowls sold at the Container store are of pretty high quality as their price should indicate (although some people may find this to be pricey) and I think for how much it is, it would even out since it would last you for a long time. Judy & Thomas were super helpful today! I'm a Container Store newbie and it was nice to be approached and asked what I was looking to organize. Judy showed me a lot of useful options. Thomas did a wonderful job sealing the deal with the Pop program. I immediately came home to assemble my investments (yes investments because their stuff is not cheap!) We are building a new master suite and this includes a walk-in closet. The young woman who helped me design our custom Elfa closet system was very good. She took her time and did not try to hurry me. The computer tools are very useful. Be sure you come in with the exact measurements of your space. I walked out with a detailed "plan" ... and as soon as my husband and I make sure this is exactly what we want, we will order it. Very helpful employees. A lot of options. I got to admit, they're extremely sanitary here. They clean or should I say sterilize the counter and credit card machine after every customer. Purchase the Elf furnitures is a bit difficult during this time due to covid. Most everyone is placing online orders so they're extremely busy to pull items for you. Luckily for us there was a nice staff working the evening shift to help us pull all the items we needed. I guess the best time to get items pulled is towards closing time when it's not so busy. I love this place! They always have something that you can use....really. My most recent discovery is Skoy Scouring cloth. These are amazing scrubby cloth for washing dishes! If you're in the lower 95% of Bay Area residents, you probably earn less than $200k / year, meaning you probably have a small-ish apartment as opposed to a sprawling mansion in Los Altos or Palo Alto. For those without an abundance of space, storing one's belongings can be a bit of a challenge. Fortunately for us proletariat, there is the Container Store, helping us store our belongings in new and innovative ways. I am not one who likes to cart around a bunch of chotckies. More of a 3.5 but they always have what I need so 4 stars it is. I'll look online to see exactly what I need otherwise I end up walking through every aisle and thinking I need it all. Only downside this store has is that the last 2 or 3 times I've came here the cashiers don't seem to care much. They either take a long time with the person before while seeing that there is a line forming or they'll sometimes just kind of ignore you in general and only have 1 cashier helping people. I like this store because I have OCD. No further explanation is needed I hope However, I am a bit upset with the store now. One day I went there and grabbed four weather proof containers and came downstairs to check out. The cashier found no barcode on these containers, so she asked me to name a reasonable price for these containers because for her to go upstairs to check the price would be too time consuming.... huh? reasonable price? how about a dollar? Duh!!! and time consuming? There was one customer waiting and there were two checkout counters open.... She didn't like the one dollar price suggestion and she suggested 15... I was like hell no! So I went upstairs to check and price and it was 12.99... My suggestions to the store: 1. Be more organized and make sure everything has a price tag or barcode 2. Hire cashier that is not too lazy to do price check nor not too stupid to call someone over the radio to price check 3. For christmas this year I decided to make my friends and family homemade vanilla extract. I wanted to buy some cute bottles to put it in so I searched the internet high and low for anything suitable. Finally I stumbled upon The Container Store website where I found the perfect bottles. Went in last night to buy them and found exactly what I was looking for. For $3.99 they were much cheaper than I had found elsewhere. The only negative so far is that The Container Store is located in Santana Row. Located on Santana Row, this location conveniently situated across the street from one of the parking garages. Inside are two floors of all the little odd tidbits a person could possibly imagine... tupperware, glass jars, giftwrapping, wedding favor items, packing material, boxes, office organizers, cubbies, spice jars, racks, ladders, blah blah blah. Staff here has been friendly, actively walking around and asking people if they need help. They've been heavily promoting their new online shopping option where store inventory is linked directly to the online site. It makes everything almost TOO convenient. I can order online, choose to pickup in the store location I want, by the date and time I want, type in "click15offer", and get 15% off my total order (good on all click-and-pickup orders until 08/23/09). They'll rummage through the whole store to get what I need and even take it to my car. I call 15 minutes prior as I'm heading out the door, again when I'm there, and they come running out, bags in tow. I don't need to tip, and I don't need to pay any convenience or shipping fee. Unfortunately because they don't show all the items available in the store on the website (especially all the different size tupperware or jars), and my imagination regarding 3-dimentional figures is uber poor, I still find myself physically scrounging around the store first to figure out exactly what I want and if it's the size that I need. Then I run home, order it online, and drive back to pick it up. Probably not the best thing for my carbon footprint. Note: As some other yelpers have also mentioned, some prices and finds are cheap and some are outrageous when compared to other places. I've always loved the container store, but my opinion about this one store has changed. I bought about $3200 worth of Elfa closets from this Container Store, and corporate sent me a gift card of $75 in the email. It had a deadline to use the gift card and I didn't know about it. I came to the store and I was told that the coupon has expired. I talked to the manager of the store and she said she agrees that she will allow me to use the gift card from the mail, since it's only a few days past. Unfortunately, t this time, the store was about to close and she said if I prefer, she will put a note on my account and I can use it in the future. However, she never did and the next time I returned to the store, there was no note on my account. I left my phone number for her to call but she never returned my call. My numerous attempts to reach her resulted in nothing. It's a huge disappointment, after spending so much money at this one particular store. read more

Started online. Was told that two of my items had to be cancelled because they no longer carry them. WTF?! -- one of them is still on the website to this day, and it's also carried at the San Jose store, it just isn't available for online purchase. What's up with that? I haven't been able to find it anywhere else and could REALLY use it. So that was a bummer. I won't buy one without the other; they are used in tandem. When my order arrived, a few of the plastic containers were totally smothered with cedar dust. Not shavings, dust. I was really irritated. The cedar sachets, which were supposed to have cedar shavings, were actually full of dust. I'm asthmatic, plus I have cats so cedar cannot be strewn all over my kitchen when I open a box, so that pissed me off. These were meant to be tucked into drawers and in a closet, and why would anyone want their clothes and home covered in fucking dust! Very lame. So, besides having to wash the plastic storage containers in the sink and let them dry before being able to use them because of the cedar dust, the fucktards who had packed the box for shipping didn't know better than to place the heavier plastic items at the bottom and more fragile fiberboard on top. The fiberboard art boxes were underneath, crushed and bent. Thanks people! I set aside the damaged items and sachets for return, which I was glad to be able to do at the store itself so I didn't have to pay return shipping. The original order cost $50+ to ship! Turns out I had over-ordered on some plastic cases I had bought to store my Rolling Stone collection from the mid-90's (only a couple years' worth; that was the last time music was any good and I'm not expecting it to ever be again; if I were to pick up a current issue, I wouldn't recognize or care about anything in it). But, it didn't take long to find other uses for the three remaining cases so I decided to keep them. I'm grateful to the Store for making this size case available to store mags as big as Rolling Stone. That mag is hella flimsy; can be worn out as soon as it's read once, with just those little staples, so they were never really made for archiving. These cases are enabling me to care for them so they don't fall apart worse. Those fiberboard art boxes are frickin awesome! Don't let their slim profile fool you; they store a LOT. I like to archive my art in a way that compresses it into staying flat and not able to buckle or curl up at the edges. They look very classy, too. I never used to understand why anyone would shell out $12+ for a box when cardboard boxes are so freely available, but it really does make a difference when you're storing something specifically for archival purposes. That said, I'm very disappointed that they don't come in bigger sizes. A lot of my art is 18" x 24", and the Container Store doesn't accommodate that. A couple of their underbed plastic boxes are labeled that way, but they don't actually fit that size. Those are outer, not inner, measurements. I've searched high and low for such an item all over the 'net and haven't found it. I have faith that I will, but for anyone who says the Container Store fulfills every storage need anyone could have, that's not true! What this store does best is hard, attractive clear plastic. As other Yelpers have pointed out, it does give off stinky plastic gas. I have found that to diminish over time, but the first few weeks, it was very difficult to be around it and I could not have any of the pieces in the room where I sleep. I really love the large zippered storage bag that keeps dust off of large, awkwardly sized things. That was a unique find! Not sure how I feel yet about the ribbon container. I expect purposely-bought containers to save me space, and this one seems to add more bulk to my craft area. It also seems to be meant for thicker ribbons. I'm going to live with it for a while, and if it doesn't work out, I'm sure it will be no problem returning it. The Fresh Wave spray has been a godsend! It really does what it says it does: absorbs odors like they were never there. If you don't like the cloves scent it gives off at first, don't worry, it goes away. Then it's neutral. Yea!! I can't believe people willing to pay the prices for the hangers they sell, but hey, that's a personal choice. I buy my hangers used, even the special knit hangers that keep your sweaters from falling off, for $14 per 144 count. That sure knocks the socks off Container Store's prices, for as good of a product. That's the case with many of their products. The verdict? I utilize the Container Store for items that are exclusive to them. If I can find the item somewhere else, it will usually (not always) be cheaper. While I understand the appeal of doing an entire home in Container Store products, that can get bloody expensive. My style is more recycletastic, using microwave food trays, shoe boxes, plastic containers that came with grocery items, and cardboard trays from cat food. read more

10 years ago, one thing I could never imagine getting excited over would be organizational items... I love the Container Store. My only gripe is that 2 of my products just purchased last week havealready broken. I would expect that a large pull out drawer bin could hold barbies without cracking, and a hanger withbpant clips, could hold pants without the clip reaking...right?? Sadly no. Will not purchase these items again, but it wont stop me from returning for others. In store demos always give me good ideas, and show me new uses for products I may have already have purchased. The WORST customer service I have ever experienced is at this location. The MANAGER including the staff are very rude and lazy. I walked into the store today 5 minutes before closing, as I was entering instead of greeting me the store manager ( caucasian lady ) who was at the door said," mam, we can only return your item but you cannot buy anything as we are closed." I said," don't you close at 6 pm and it's 4 minutes to 6 pm. She said," sorry can't do it." Then at the counter the girl was so rude said we have to do other things in the store too. I was quiet stunned by the way they were all talking to me. I got little stern in my voice and said, I need these items exchanged and so finally after arguing exchanged it for me. Then the staff asked a question to the Caucasian manager regarding the bill and she said," just do it and get her out that door." Wow that's how these people talk. I like boxes. Yes I do. I like boxes, how about you? If you're into organization or you just need to get your shit together, this is the place! My shoe boxes are from here, been here a million times for work items, and of course little random kitchen organizers to make my small kitchen easier to work in. The inventory is what it's about, not the staff. I've rarely ever had a staff member actually help me out at this store. They all seem to have "better" things to do, like 5 people working on one lame ass looking display. I would probably give it 5 stars if they're staff didn't totally have their heads up their butts. I really like The Container Store. They have a wide variety of items to help you better organize your closets/shelves/stuff. You can find everything in here and within a reasonable price too. Surprisingly they carry items from China and Japan. I bought a plastic container made to store tiny pins, paper clips, bulletin board pins, etc made from China - I hope it's lead free although it didn't indicate that in their label. YIKES! This place is organized too! Easy to get to one aisle to another - I just love this place. Staff is helpful and friendly. Only draw back is that there is only two locations that are within the area where I live - this one and SF, and I have to drive a distance. read more

I had very pleasant experience with my elfa installation. Original design was flawed due to measurement inaccuracies but installer was able to suggest modifications on site and helped us modify the design and get additional parts necessary. Finished 4 closets on the day of appointment with two closets requiring modifications. They also packed the not used parts and I was able to return them the same day. The store designer was also very helpful and everything went smoothly. Highly recommended! read more

I adore this specialty store because it lives up to it's name. I am a girl who enjoys shoes and boots of varying sizes. And paying full price is against my religion. I like to store my foot-ware in boxes. Sometimes when you get pair of knee high black leather f**k me boots on sale for $25 the box isn't in good shape. So what do you do??????? Come to the container store on an expedition with Pumpkin K. She can attest to the way I squealed like a kid on Christmas morning when I found the PERFECT plastic boot boxes to protect my babies.
