But today's visit was dedicated to finding 3 ounces or smaller containers and the Container Store pulled through. They have such a great selection of bottles ranging from 1 ounce to 122856 ounces. Seriously! While waiting in line to pay, I was tempted to buy this tiny pack of paper soap but had to refrain in order to buy my 17 bottles. Can you imagine that? Soap but in paper form! Ahhh, I think I'll go back tomorrow. Anyway, I'm going to spend my Saturday night, not washing my hair but squeezing all my lotions and moisturizers into tiny bottles. YAY! read more

The WORST customer service I have ever experienced is at this location. The MANAGER including the staff are very rude and lazy. I walked into the store today 5 minutes before closing, as I was entering instead of greeting me the store manager ( caucasian lady ) who was at the door said," mam, we can only return your item but you cannot buy anything as we are closed." I said," don't you close at 6 pm and it's 4 minutes to 6 pm. She said," sorry can't do it." Then at the counter the girl was so rude said we have to do other things in the store too. I was quiet stunned by the way they were all talking to me. I got little stern in my voice and said, I need these items exchanged and so finally after arguing exchanged it for me. Then the staff asked a question to the Caucasian manager regarding the bill and she said," just do it and get her out that door." Wow that's how these people talk. SHAME ON THEM AND THEIR ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEIR JOB. Thankless people, have obviously no appreciation for their job. read more

Ok, here's the deal. If you don't feel the need or have the energy to step foot into this wonderful emporium of home-rescue merchandise, go shopping on line, on their website. Select what you want and make arrangements to pick up your order curbside. Then, 15 minutes before you expect to arrive, give the store a call and honest to goodness, just as promised, a cheerful salesperson will wheel your order to your car, even load it up for you!! It works, just as advertised!! Of course, for those times when you feel in a more tactile mood, when you need to peruse each 'n every aisle, fondling the enticing inventory, then sure, by all means, go inside. But if you know what you want and don't want the hassle to trolling for a parking space in a busy shopping center, then keep their pick up service/option in mind. Its great!! read more

The mere existence of The Container Store is proof that Americans have too much money. Not only do you have too much crap, but you need a three-story, 200,000 square-foot store to purchase vessels in which to hoard your crap. Consumerism run-amock. Despite that fact, I tend to lead a life more hedonistic than spartan, so The Container Store offers receptacles for all my excesses. For my tiny apartment, with it's tiny kitchen, I was able to find a bunch of nice little holders for all my spices and dry goods. This helps mitigate vermin infestation. They also have tons of other task-specific apparati for organizing most anything you could think of. They have their niche, and they do a good job. Their staff is friendly and helpful. read more

I had very pleasant experience with my elfa installation. Original design was flawed due to measurement inaccuracies but installer was able to suggest modifications on site and helped us modify the design and get additional parts necessary. Finished 4 closets on the day of appointment with two closets requiring modifications. They also packed the not used parts and I was able to return them the same day. The store designer was also very helpful and everything went smoothly. Highly recommended! read more

I really dug this place when it first opened, and I've bought quite a lot of things here, but I've visited many times recently only to leave empty-handed. The staff has generally been friendly, but recently a staffer yelled at me 'cause I didn't realize the folks she was yakking with were counting as the "line". (I'm a very courteous shopper; I looked at the gaggle of people and tried to get some recognition from them as to what the heck they were doing standing around near the checkout lines, but no response, so I walked towards the cashiers, past their idling asses. They've since better-labeled their checkout line, probably because of that sort of incident.) Elfa seems to be taking more and more floor space, which I suppose is good if that's what you're looking for, but bad for everything else. Oh, and I've bought many many (~40) sweater boxes for storing stuff at home (great for small items, plus CD's fit perfectly) but they off-gas something fierce--making the closet they're in stink and leaving a stinky smell on my hands when I use the boxes (trust me, it's the boxes, not my closet! ;) I don't know what they use in their plastic, but now I know why that section of the store is almost unbearably odoriferous. Wish I had known about the smell before I invested in this storage solution, but I hope it'll all go away eventually and I hope it's not something harmful to me or my wife or cats... Oh, and a tip to parking--either arrive a little before opening, or go up to the higher floors. Wow! Great store for dorm or apartment shopping! There are cute little designs to how you would want to decorate your room! This store is like a mini IKEA, with so many containers that fit everything!! I like checking out the kitchen, laundry, and office areas. I found out that they also have a gift area too! Oh how I love this store, but then again I'm an organizational freak. Every time I go in here I find something that I never knew I needed but I have to buy right then or I'll die. The more time I spend at the Container Store, the more I want to come in. The staff is top-notch in terms of service and friendliness and I've been impressed with every interaction. I've worked with many different folks in person, over the phone & via chat and the service experience is consistent every time. I recently made my first Elfa custom closet system purchase and everyone has been so knowledgeable and helpful. This place has horrible customer service. I waited over 30min to get anyone to even acknowledge my presence at the Elba shelving area. When I was asked for help the specialist for sure hated her job. I left and went to another reputable closet organizer business on Saratoga Ave. They were so much help and great assistance. Girl at Container Store told me she has worked there for over 4yrs and her Sis 8yrs. I really could care less how long you worked there. She acted like it was her first day. Ok.... for the record I'm not super anal about organizing everything into their separate bins, labeled etc... for those of us that are inherently organized, and can remember where we put stuff, the container store isn't nearly as important..... hahahahah But anyway... there are some really nice things in here that are space saving things. My wife and I had the pleasure of moving into a condo with a fully organized closet, and then moved out only to realize that because the closet was organized, it was actually more efficient on space as well. but anyway... you can have lots of space saving things, and still run a sloppy store... not here.... in, out, efficient, fast, got what I need and back out of there in less than 5 minutes.... and with good service... so that's 4 stars.... :) read more

I love this store! I love them not only because it is an organized person's dream, but because this particular store has great customer service. I was there last night just for a cork board, which I have looked in about a dozen different stores for. The Container Store had just the one I was looking for! Then my husband and I wandered over to the desks and saw the one we had bought many months ago. It was a desk on which we had some problems with the guides. A young man came over and asked if we needed help. When we told him how the gliders had problems, he went over and asked a manager if there was anything that could be done and then came back and told us to just bring that piece back. Awesome customer service! Then my husband fell in love with the bungee office chair. Since we weren't expecting to buy more than a cork board, we went online to see if there were any coupons. We found out that you can get 10% off if you shop online and pick up the items at the store. So of course we went on our smart phones and tried to order. There was a problem with using the web app on smart phones, so we trekked into the mall and into the Apple store to make our order. The order said we would have to pick up the next day- makes sense since it needs to go through a process and it was already 7 pm! However, on our way back to the car, we decided to just pop in and see if there was a chance we could pick up our items and save us a trip back the next day. We met Ellen at the front, and she kindly explained why it usually has you pick up the next day. Then she said she would go gather our order since it wasn't busy. She got it within 10 minutes, and we were off! And she was super friendly, not making me feel bad or anything for asking for an exception! For me the container store is an all day trip. I am overly organized. I sort, contain and label everything I own. Needless to say the container store is my promised land. It's so neat and organized that it's almost surreal. stack and stacks of sensible solutions. Every price clearly labeled and most of the price tags also have measurements... for those of you like me this comes in very handy when you need a container that fits just so in a closet or under a bed. I will admit that I have container store dreams where my house is lined with beautiful, stackable, rolling containers with all my treasures in them. So my opinion is biased. So whats the bad news. Organization has a price and that price is high. I don't blame the container store, for its not cheap anywhere. Why is it cheaper to buy crap then it is to store it. So unfair. It's best to go in knowing what you need and what will fit and knowing it's going to cost you. I like to prepare myself in advance by perusing online and taking measurements at home. Since I live 20 miles away I'd hate to have to turn around and return something. Another plus... it's on Santa Row! I currently live in a city that doesn't have a container store. Therefore, I was thrilled to visit one on Santana Row in San Jose. However, I was disappointed that they have a limited selection of kitchen supplies and the cost for some of their plastic storage bins seemed a bit steep. I will likely be back to get specialty organization items (like hooks that go over the back of a door to hang towels, without the need for making holes). But most of the bins and tupperware I need can probably be purchased for lower prices at IKEA or Walmart. read more

My first time at the container store, free parking (no validation needed) off Santana Row. I needed some wide drawers for storage space inside closet. Really liked the platinum mesh drawers vs Closet maid wire kind ( as items can drop down). Plus the elfa ones have a top available. I was browsing around and was helped by Ruth who was very knowledgeable. I decided on 4 elfa drawer units with 5 shelves each. They were running a sale for 25% off. Decided to get them, they do take time to pull all items up to 2 hours 45 mins. Taking off 1 star for that. You would have to order online and then wait for order to be ready should you want to make only one trip down. So decided to come back later, but they do have a loading zone out front that you can use. Call when you are close and give them your order number and car color/ description and they will bring items out and load them for you. Ruth helped me configure my items, add accessories back stop, drawer guides, etc and ring me up. Items at expensive but you do get better quality. So you decide if it's worth almost double. You can sign up for their pop program for random coupons throughout the year. But don.'t expect them to stack if they are running a 25% off or 30% off based on what the sales assistant said. I love containers and putting my stuff in them so this place is great! Their website is also very helpful in that you can order your item(s) online and request to pick it up at a nearby location. In my case, I chose to use the curbside pickup in San Jose at Santana Row. I used this service last Friday evening, and it was nice. The curbside pickup parking was empty so I pulled up and called the number instructed when I was there. I was greeted nicely along with my items in a bag with the receipt. The gentleman also asked if I needed anything else. Today, I ordered the same thing but in less quantity. Little did I know that the curbside parking was full and calling the number wasn't very helpful either. I parked in the structure and walked over and tried calling again. Come to find out, there was only one worker at the registers where the phone was so, of course, he couldn't answer it. Soon after, another worker came to ring customers out. When it was my turn, I just verified information for my order and received my items as it was readily waiting for me behind the counter. An overall pleasant experience. Sure the store may be a little pricey, but I go here to get nice products without the fuss of rummaging through other stores to purge out crap. I could spend hours looking at the products they carry and figuring out new ways to reorganize everything I own. Always fun to go and look around. As other users have mentioned, this location is conveniently located next to the Winchester garage at Santana Row, with a 3-space loading area in front of the store, if you're lucky enough to grab a spot. The bf and I went to the store last night to pick up an online order (handy system they have) for an Elfa system, and my new favorite employee, Molly, was nice enough to tell us that our order included some parts that wouldn't work together and that we were forgetting an important piece. She grabbed us the right parts, showed us why what parts we needed and why, showed us a quick installation demo, and instructed the cashier for the return and purchase of the new parts. THEN, she loaded everything into our car without asking, even though we didn't have a ton of stuff to carry. Maybe she was just protecting the cart- maybe not- but she was so helpful and nice! Give Molly a raise, Container Store! A+ for the huge elevators. -1star for being a little bit unfriendly with the wallet, since we're getting specific here. read more

Every single time I go to the Container Store, I spend a minimum of 2 hours there! I love thinking of all the different ways I can organize my house. All the different gadgets and "toys" here are amazing for people who are looking for a new way to organize their life. They aren't the cheapest place in the world, but they have super friendly staff who have great ideas that can enlighten you to new ways to do things around your home. I get the covid part but this is not the only store that needs to handle this situation. Went in hoping to pick up some shelves but wow the lady was rude as hell. Do you have design? No then do you have a list? What? I just want the precut components. No explanation at all. Took my measurements and said someone need to call me. Didn't tell me how long until I asked. I have done the elfa shelves 3 times before but this experience is ridiculous. They also locked the door and someone has to come over to open it. I want them to take my money but they turned me away. Look at other poor reviews and I have to agree with others. This is a good store and I don't want it to fold. Management - you need to get your shit together. Whatever it is. Your employees seem frustrated and mad. I hope it is one off thing as I have been to your store for the past decade. Walk across the street and see how bestbuy is doing this. Wow... This place is your one stop shop to a beautifully organized, perfectly contained, and very chic home. (And your presents will be fabulous, too!!) Between this and Crate & Barrel next door, you've got it made in the shade! If you are a crafter or collector of any kind, you will find ways to neatly store almost any type of project! I love their closet organizing supplies.. They can save you a ton of space. OH and all of their impulse buy items by the registers are so cute and fun! The only downside is that it CAN be pricey, but if you buy their basic products (clear plastic instead of cherry wood, etc) then it can be affordable. The second downfall is that the line can get crazy on a weekend. If you're looking for a quick trip (for,say, a few hangers I tried to pick up the other day) forget about it on the weekend!! I wanted to write some things about the Container Store that other reviews might not know about: One of the Container Store's main missions is customer service. And I'm not talking regular, company line customer service; I'm talking about above and beyond. 1) You can take anything back to the store if it breaks--receipt or not. They don't want you to have to live with an inferior product even if you used it for something that it wasn't intended. 2) Call the store! They have excellent phone etiquette--not just "good morning", but they will not put you on hold, but rather call you back when they have an answer. 3) The workers take care of the store to keep it looking sharp. The isles are clean and even more impressive, the items on the shelves are in nice rows and stacks. 4)The signage is correct almost all of the time. The price on the shelf is the price of the item. Things are rarely in the wrong place and almost everything has the correct price sticker. Their products may be somewhat overpriced--one time I saw the exact same scrap booking cart at Costco for less, but hey, that's retail. Certain products really aren't worth the extra money Container Store charges, but other things like their hangers are worth the money for quality. Don't redo your whole house here, but for key items that need high quality, I suggest the Container Store. read more

The Container Store carries plenty of things that can help you get organized. They have their elfa closets and shelves, and they carry ice packs, lunch boxes, and other items. But mostly it's all about the PLASTIC, and if you look around long enough you might find some items made in the USA. Overall, this is a good place to go if you can't find the right container or closet that suits your needs at your local Linens N' Things or Bed Bath & Beyond or IKEA (if you're lucky to live near one). The desk chair at Storables is $125.00 - The Container Store same desk chair is $139.99 a difference of $14.99 + tax. They said NO. Hmmm maybe they should in todays economy! They lost my business. We decided to reorganize the closets in our new home in SF. After doing some basic research (built-in, Elfa, ClosetMaid, etc.), I decided that I would try Elfa, as we would get free closet designs. What the heck, I went to the Santana Road store, gave my closet dimensions, and walked out of the store with designs-in-hand within 20 minutes. After I reviewed the designs with my wife and with a cold beverage in hand, I placed the order online, and they took care of the rest. The next day, the order was ready for pickup. The Container Store team literally brought everything to my van at their curbside and loaded the van for me. They did a very thorough kitting of all the misc hardware and provided it in a cute zipper bag. The only downside was they didn't apply my 10% new customer discount, so I had to go see the manager to rectify. I chose to do the installation myself. I am glad I had a Mikita drill though, as the installation required drilling and setting several screws. However, all went as well as planned, if not better. The closets are in and look great. We will probably go back and buy more stuff, including more shelves and baskets. Their design team put a lot of thought and effort into the Elfa modular design. Great product. Maybe a little pricey, but I'll forget about that in a few weeks as I use the new efficient closets. read more

Our family of 9 visited the Container Store today (12/8/19) in search of shoe boxes. We were greeted with "Welcome to the Container Store! Just to let you know, we are closing in 5 minutes." In actuality, we had more than five minutes until close time, but the interaction allowed us to ask where the shoes boxes are located. We knew what we wanted. A nice employee quickly showed us the location. It was then that another employee, blonde shoulder length with glasses was walking towards us from the back of the store, arms wide open and told us ,"We're closing" multiple times. Although we acknowledged her message, she still didn't mind repeating herself as if we are either not welcome, deaf, or dumb. Didn't matter though, we ended up walking out because of the rudeness. I checked my watch outside, it was then that it was five minutes before close time, and they were already locking their front doors. I've walked into a handful of stores who were minutes before closing. The best practice is to remind customers, but don't turn them away. Close time is the actual time you lock your doors, not before your business hours. As we made our way out, they told us to come back tomorrow. I read a few reviews and saw comments of bad service and racial profiling. I believe this is what we experienced because they didn't feel the need to let all the other customers know who were not people of color. Sad to experience this especially in Silicon Valley. I'm not afraid to share this experience with all my friends and family. I have purchased many things online and picked up from this store including large business purchases for 11 clinics I used to manage. I'm taking my business to Amazon and IKEA. I LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS BUT their customer service needs work. No greetings and employees walking by without offering help when we stood by the shelving units for questions. Finally when my husband caught the attention of an employee, she exclaimed that we only get 5 mins of her time since she's going to lunch and we need to make an appointment. After which I told her we didn't know the process here, drove 40 minutes to get to their location with every intention to purchase that day and there were no signs by the shelving units indicating that we need to proceed downstairs to speak to an employee for an appointment. End result, we left because we couldn't wait over an hour with our 2 kids for the next available employee. read more

Best cure for a messy house? Watch a couple episodes of Hoarders, then come here. I freaking love this place. It brings out the organizer in me and makes me want to buy everything. One favorite thing I have purchased here is my bakers cart. I purchased one just like one that they advertised, with 3 lower shelves and one overhead shelf. It keeps all my stuff in one place, was relatively affordable, and is of great quality. I have noticed that they used these same shelves at high end kitchen/home supply stores (Williams Sonoma). What's nice is that you can really customize a lot of things to meet your needs and budget. They have tons of useful items for home, bath, kitchen, and travel. They have great seasonal deals, and it's hard not to buy something when you come here. Love love love it. When I come here, I just can't contain myself! heeheehee.. I made a big order of roughly 100 items two months ago. Most of the cart showed 'available in store 2/18', after going in person to pick up the order, I was informed most of it hasn't arrived yet. Ok, no problem, I'll come back when it's all here, I don't mind waiting a little longer. I come back and the manager tells me that most of the items in my cart are now discontinued and that I won't be receiving what amounts to 90% of the order. I'm not sure what the point of failure is, the website API showing me garbage data? Container Store's inventory database being incorrect? Container Store overselling items? My order being stolen by pirates? In any case, I should have at least been informed far earlier so all this time wouldn't have been wasted. It's a shame since I was really looking forward to finally picking up my big order. I'm usually quite forgiving, but in this case, so much went wrong that Container Store has lost a customer for life. read more

I went here over the weekend and had an awesome experience. Evelyn, the sales associate that helped me was very knowledgeable and charismatic. I felt at ease because she simplified my storage problem. She knew a lot about walls and about home organization and placed me at ease with the idea of drilling a few holes into the wall. I love the simplicity and selection at The Container Store. I love the service and friendliness of everyone that works there. It is difficult to go into a store and feel extremely at ease while receiving excellent customer service. Clean layout, easy to find items, and reasonable prices. They aren't exactly IKEA when it comes to pricing, but prices are all right when there's a sale.
