Maybe I have low expectations because the bakeries around my place never have anything that interests me (Polish cookies are super boring), but pretty much everything looked amazing. When you enter through the doors, you feel like you entered cookie heaven. In order to walk away happy, you need to come up with a game plan before you go in. What type of cookies do you like, do you want chocolate, peanut butter or vanilla, do you like sprinkles or candy, do you want soft or hard? All these things have to be decided somewhat before you go in because otherwise you will just go in and stand there with your tongue sticking out and drooling from all the selections. You can go with option B, which most of us fall a victim to and that is just getting everything and trying them all. Sounds like a great plan until you are left with a bellyache. The staff is very nice. They take their time to answer your questions. They try to organize the cookies into similar genres, so once you have an idea what you want, you can navigate. They have cupcakes, brownies, cookies, biscotti and anything else that can be classified into the cookie family. This is an adorable cookie shop on Staten Island, with all different kinds of cookie jars on sale and on display. Whenever I get to work in Staten Island, I always try and stop in for a sweet treat! Butter, butter, butter is the shining star of these cookies. They have so many different varieties and even cookie whoopie pies, and biscotti. My personal favorite is the Lemon Drop cookie. $11 a pound for most of the choice cookies is pretty good deal. Used to be $10 but now all prices are going up because of Obama so I understand. I enjoyed the cookies because most of them weren't too sweet or buttery- right up my alley. My family didn't enjoy the cookies, however., which is why I didn't give such a good review. They said that the whole point to eat desserts is to have it buttery n sweet and when they sunk their teeth into them they didn't get a WOW feeling. The bakery is a cute small shop, decorated with vintage items and the walls is covered with cookie jars, you can actually buy the cookie jar and fill it with cookies. The price per pound is $11, you cannot beat the price for the delicious fresh made cookies. They have over 100+ kinds of cookies, including macaroons, brownie bites, biscottis, etc. Their rainbow cookies is the one to die for, the raspberry filling is filled with goodness and it is worth every bite of the cookie. Nutella linzer, raspberry chocolate linzer, and cheesecake brownie bites are part of my favorites as well. They also make cupcakes, coffee, bubble teas, etc. Street parking, it is tough to get a parking spot. Small shop, avoid late afternoon or early evening hours or around the holiday times, the line will be out of the door. Plan your time. It's $11 a pound for the desserts. They're all mini size and I actually like the idea of it because that way you don't get sick of the desserts. Salted Caramel Bite: I didn't really like it. I didn't really tasted the salted caramel, just tasted brownie and chocolate. Slutty Brownie Bite: It lived up to my expectation. You could taste the brownie, oreo, and cookie. Red Velvet Whoopie: I like the whoppie pie, the cream cheese (if that's what they use for frosting) wasn't overwhelming at all. White Chocolate Rainbow: I like and don't like it at the same time. I'm not really a fan of the filling in between the cakes but it didn't taste bad. Chocolate Chip Sandwich: I like this cookie sandwich, full of chocolate chips and wasn't too chocolately. Raspberry Coconut Square: It doesn't really have the raspberry flavor but definitely the coconut. Watermelon Lemonade: I wasn't sure of what to expect from this drink, just that it will probably be really sour. But I was wrong, it tasted like watermelon juice with a hint of lemonade. Okay so you go into this cozy, perfect little cookie shop and you see cookies!! There are so many to choose from and each one will not disappoint!! They are beyond delicious!! Then there's these what I call myself little chocolate ravioli cookies because they have a filing of raspberry, hazelnut or chocolate and then the cookie is covered in chocolate, to me looks like a little chocolate covered ravioli! My oh so wonderful assistant brought me 2 of their red velvet cupcakes and 1 of their chocolate ganaches when she was running AN HOUR LATE! They were so good that I let her lateness slide...she'd usually be kept in a dungeon for the rest of the day. Seriously though, their cupcakes are the best cupcakes that I've had in ages. The frosting was just the right amount of sweet and oh so light and creamy. My keyboard is probably sticky from me eating half of it with my fingers. The cake was scrumptious! It was soft and had a slight chocolate taste to it. Perfection! The chocolate ganache was love @ first bite. It's 3 bites of deliciousness. Chocolatey creamy goodness I tell ya. But I think most people get it to go. Its $10 for a pound (about 15 cookies). They also have "whoopies" and cupcakes too. The cookies are crisp and delicious. I like crunchy cookies. I have never actually been to the storefront but a coworker of mine brings treats in from this place all of the time and I love it. BROWNIES FOR THE WIN! These brownies are amazingggg. They have this deep rich icing and the brownies are moist and so so chocolatey. They are fantastic. I can eat 4-5 in a few hours, which is absolutely terrible for you but sometimes you can't help yourself when they are that good. This may be too rich in chocolate for some people, I can understand that, they are extremely sweet. But I like it that way so I am happy with it. I was looking for fun treats to bring to customers yesterday. I turned to Yelp and found the Cookie Jar. When I got there, I found a dizzying array of cookies. I knew from the reviews that I absolutely had to get some slutty brownies, but I needed some advice on other options. Fortunately, the young ladies at the counter were super helpful and friendly. The nut cookies, they told me, were also among the most popular. So, I loaded up on these and headed out to see my peeps. At the last stop of the day, my customer offered to let me try some of the treats in the box. So, I took a sliver of the brownie. And then another... and another. So much for a sliver, but these slutty brownies are amazing... chocolate chip, oreo, and brownie layers of amazingness. No, really, if you are anywhere near Staten Island, putt down your phone, tablet, laptop and head to the Cookie Jar and get all slutty! And if you're far away, they deliver. They were filling an order when I walked in and they let me know they ship anywhere. I needed to send a gift, so I ordered online last night. The next afternoon, to what did my wondering eyes did appear? The box of cookies sitting on a counter in Boston!! It's like they were teleported, it was so fast! My friends were sending me texts all afternoon how much they loved them. I got similar messages from my customers. If you've got a cookie craving, check out the Cookie Jar. I'm a big cookie fan to begin with so this review may be a little biased. The cookies here are pretty good...i wouldn't say the best I've ever had, but they're around an 8/10 or so. The selection is pretty large and the service is great. My only problem is that I can't seem to just leave with a 1/4 lb of cookies... I grew up in Staten Island but moved away about 5 years ago. I still remember the first time I saw this place when I was home visiting and thought "oh, that place looks so cute." After driving past it numerous times, I finally decided I needed to stop in to see what this place was all about. Needless to say, I was absolutely blown away. Since that first time I stopped in with my sister and bought a pound of cookies (choosing one of each cookie that really interested us), I have stopped at Cookie Jar for all the holidays and vacations that I spend in Staten Island. Without fail, we make it here to get a pound or two of cookies for Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, having friends over while we're home visiting family, cookies to have while we're home, or even a pound or two to bring back with us to our new respective homes. Best of all, theyre only $10 a pound which is a great deal considering how much cookies can cost at many of the Italian bakeries on Staten Island. There are also so many cookies to choose from! Not only do they have the usual chocolate chip, sugar cookies, oatmeal raisin varities, they also have a few cases of more specialty cookies that I make sure to get every time. My sister and I love the peanut butter brownies, the french nut squares, dark chocolate cherry cookies. Her favorite is definitely the chocolate dipped raspberry, which isn't my favorite but is certainly delicious and hard for me to resist. My mom loves the espresso brownies, the chocolate hazlenut cookies...there are so many we love and so many we have yet to try! I am very surprised by all the good reviews because not only were the cookies stale but they all tasted alike. What I mean is that they were tasteless, that the different types of cookies all just tasted like butter and sugar. You cannot tell a chocolate chip from a peanut butter.
