We love the Cooler because it is a friendly crowd with good food. The bacon for breakfast is the best in town. I am not even that big of a bacon fan, but if I could buy some like it for cooking at home I sure would. The chef salad is great with lots of stuff on it and you can also just get half. Same with the nachos and the quesadilla......you can get half, which is plenty. Clam chow on Friday nights is very flavorful, too. If you are a sports fan, there are plenty of televisions to see from a lot of vantage points. read more

Not a bad sports bar, though a little small inside. Right off of MLK Blvd. near the stadium. But the building on the inside is interesting. Reminded me of being in a barn. Lots of tables, lots of TV's, lots of patrons on this first day of the college football season. And yes, everyone in there except me was a Duck fan. No problem, everyone was very nice. I sauntered up to the bar for lunch and Joey was my bartender. As I waited for my fish and chips, there seemed to be 20 people working and running back and forth, but it was organized chaos. I began with a cup of clam chowder and, for a sports bar, not bad at all. Dipped my garlic bread in it and had myself a nice little appetizer. My F&C arrived and the fish was quite tasty. However, the chips were a little soggy and not hot. Oh well. But, service was great, the place was hopping and I had me a decent meal before watching my team get their you-know-what's beat. read more

The cooler used to be so gross, but they have really turned themselves around over the years! Now it is a much nicer sports bar - not upscale, not a total dive, just right. Tons of TVs, tons of space. The food is surprisingly delicious - I recommend the sliders with bacon, bleu cheese, and sauteed onions. YUM! After I ordered the bartender decided it's what he was having for dinner too :) This is one of my parents favorite spots now, so when I go home to visit we tend to end up here for basketball games and such. Omg!!! This place is awesome! We are staying at la Quinta in , awesome also, on our way to get a puppy by the California boarder. We got here needed to eat. We found the cooler was in walking distance reviewed their menu on line and decided to walk the 700 feet in the pouring rain. They were friendly even though we looked like drowned rats by the time we got there. The food , I don't think I can say enough about how awesome it was. Homemade chips for the nachos the sauce for the most unusual fries I've ever seen awesome. The fries awesome. BLT awesome poppers awesome. I asked for an IPA beer awesome. I'm very disappointed by The Cooler. While it has been noticeable The Cooler has been changing their branding within the last year or so, they also made changes to effect their loyal customer base not for the good. I recently made a to-go order as I was on my way into work right around the corner. When I placed my order I was informed there is now a .50 fee for all to-go orders. This was an incredibly disappointing change. I said ok to this as I was looking forward to my skillet all week and I was placing an order for a co-worker. Upon arrival, I went to the bar to pick up my food and was told I would get the "Early Bird" special for the other order I made. It was then immediately revoked as I was told never mind, that's if you dine-in only. How early can it really be when The Cooler opens at 8 AND there was no sign or advertising of this special OR advertising there is a to-go charge but falsely telling customers this deal to immediately take it away? I work in the neighboring area at one of the human service agencies and have always enjoyed the ability to have such a delicious restaurant near by to order food from not to mention enjoy after work happy hours. For many of us our jobs are so demanding that to-go orders are our only option and we wanted to give to local businesses. I'm extremely disappointed with the treatment and service that I will not be back. read more

I've eaten at the Cooler MANY times and over the years I have had just about everything on the menu. I'll be the first to admit that in the past the food was just 'okay' however, it seems that the management has made a commitment to improve the quality and the variety of the food (favorites: "The Cooler Chicken Sandwich, and the "Taylor Made"). Great vibe especially during Football season and pretty chill for an after work beer. Definitely one of the more happenin' places on the north side of the river. read more

This place always has a varied crowd but never in a bad way. It's a relief from the typical college bar scene. I enjoy coming here on casual nights out or just for breakfast or lunch. I remember having a conversation with the bouncer outside early in the night about some youtube videos, about a man getting drinks thrown on him but it was acceptable because he was male. The bouncer said that if he ever saw a guy have a drink thrown on him, he would kick that guy out of the bar because that was how he was raised! (even though in that hypothetical scenario the guy is the one being physically assaulted) Maybe he just didn't like me from that point on or something, because not less then 5 minutes later I was talking with a group of a guy and two girls, and the bouncer walks up to me and tells me to stop talking to them because they are regulars (Nobody in that group had any sort of problem with me, they were actually all very nice and even offered me a ride home at the end of the night). When I wanted to ask the bouncer why I couldn't talk with regulars, he would interrupt me mid sentence with the words "shut up". I decided to do my best to avoid talking with that bouncer since he had an obvious problem with me, and all went well for at least the next hour. I was outside on their patio later that night, and a drunk girl was trying to start stuff with anyone that would even look in her direction, she must have been having a rough week, but to each their own. The bouncer came outside just as the girl was insulting me for standing outside by myself, which was enough of a reason to kick me out of the bar for the night. To clarify, I never insulted, or tried to create conflict with anyone that entire night. I don't know if it's because the bouncer didn't seem to personally like me, or if he would kick any guy out if a girl says something true or not. read more

I come to Eugene once a year and stop by The Cooler. This year will be my last. I arrived for Sunday breakfast at 10am and order my meal at 10:30. By 11:30am I still had not received my meal. The General Manager came by to explain the wait and it would be only be 10 minutes longer. I finally left the Cooler at 11:45am without ever receiving my breakfast. Terrible customer service. My wife and I were hosting her younger sister for the weekend. We thought it would be fun to take her to the cooler to grab a burger and watch the game close to the game day atmosphere. We called the morning of to confirm her younger sister could come, and she is under 21. After paying 20 dollars for event parking, she was turned away at the door. My wife explained the situation to the bouncer, who promptly mansplained that she must have been wrong. We explained that we had spent considerable money parking our car, relying on one of their employees. They made no effort to remedy the situation. Extremely rude and disrespectful. I like their burgers, but will never eat there again after this experience and recommend that you not support this misogynistic establishment. I would give less than one if I could. read more

I went there for lunch. We ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and the Cobb salad. The sauce on the wrap was great and well balanced and I was happy that the chicken was grilled. However, it was a bit gritty. I suspect from the lettuce because although the salad was tasty, also gritty. A bit disappointing although I can see that this could be a fun beer joint. After playing a round of disc golf at nearby Alton Baker Park, this was the closest option for a place to grab a beer and some food. We went on a Wednesday night, which is trivia night which starts at 7. It's a bar, with an open floor plan, many tv's located up high around the inside of the large A-frame building, so when there are quite a few people there, it gets noisy. Unfortunately, they were short staffed, and our drink orders were taken quickly, but it took a bit of time to get filled, as well as get our food orders. I ordered the Chicken fingers & fries, and they were TASTY! I got the impression that the chicken was perhaps made in-house, they were large, juicy, and flavorful. The house fries were curiously shaped large half curlicues, and their fry sauce was quite tasty. Others in the group also enjoyed their food. The food was better than I had hoped (not just pulled out of freezer), but the atmosphere was o.k. I would go again. read more
