I was really bummed when I found out the Wild Duck closed, but they're under new ownership and back and better than ever! With the same (and some new) fun UO decor and memorabilia and brand new Hawaiian classics on the menu, this is your sign to check 'em out. If you know me I LIVE for Hawaiian comfort food, so I was excited to try out their new Hawaiian fusion menu items. I got the Hawaiian Style Plate with 2 meats, the chicken katsu and Korean chicken. The meats are served with your typical two scoops of rice and mac salad. The mac salad was more peppery than I'm used to but still really good. The chicken katsu wasn't like your traditional chicken katsu filet, but instead were more like chicken strips -- still super crispy, tender, and juicy! The katsu sauce really made all of the difference, it's barbecue-y and tangy. The Korean chicken was okay, I was expecting it to be crispier with a sweet and spicy sauce (think gochujang), but instead it was a very mild soy-based glaze. I'd love to go back and try the tonkatsu, tangy garlic vinha d'ahols, and loco moco. Wild Duck also kept some of their classic menu items in case you're craving something else. Overall, the service was excellent, the restaurant was really clean and had tons of natural light, and there are plenty of TVs to stay up to date on all of the games! Go ducks & go support local! Ordered fish & chips. The coating was fine: crispy and adequately seasoned. But, the fish itself was really mushy. It didn't have a "fishy aroma," so I wouldn't necessarily say it was "old." Still, the total lack of texture (firmness) was off-putting. I've had this dish several times before, and it was better. Maybe this was a "one off." The accompanying sweet potato fries were very good. Service was fine this visit. Noise level was very high despite being half empty. Wild Duck has the potential to be part of the regular rotation, but it seems to fall short in one way or another. Consistency matters. read more

Stopped in at Wild Duck Cafe and had a really good experience. I went with the jalapeno burger and it was very tasty, packed with flavor. The fries were nice and crispy, just how I like them. We had a good sized group and were looking for a place that could accommodate us all. This was the only place that we could find so our expectations were pretty low along with the rating here.. very sports bar/ college vibe decor going on and the noise level would mirror that. We noticed the menu had a heavy Hawaiian influence and felt so uncertain how that would work in Oregon? But we gave it a try anyway! We started with misubi and some wings. The wings were sweet Vietnamese sauce (i think) and some mango habanero flavored. The sweet ones weren't bad but they weren't as good as the habanero joints, those started the mood off right. The misubi was surprisingly good too, despite the double riced side. Which was the first time I had seen that but I won't complain one bit. On to the main dishes.. I got the loco moco which hit all the proper notes, especially the patty. Some hot sauce would've put me in a food coma that I wouldn't want to come out of lol. The Hawaiian BBQ steak plate was all hit and no miss as well. The fried chicken wasn't the most memorable for the person in our group but the average for this score is still very high.. I'm not sure if the waitress lady was Hawaiian/poly but I wouldn't be surprised if the place had some real Polynesian cooks or recipes going on. I was very pleased with this experience. Maybe the low expectation raised the score but I will still recommend this place to anybody on the fence about it. It has a low rating but it also barely has any reviews. Hopefully this helps them out and I hope that they take care of you the same way they took care of us. This place has potential that I hope they can keep up. So years ago I would come to the Wild Duck brewery (Glen Falconer, Sasquatch RIP). Three because of a horrific tragedy it then later became what we know today as Wild Duck Cafe The ambiance is basically the same feel and the food and service were both really good. Came in before the Ducks football game and the Bluegne burger with chicken tortilla soup. A couple other things were at the table and everything was great. Look forward to coming back again. Went to Wild Duck for dinner tonight. Only one waitress on a Friday night and waited almost an hour for our food. No kid's menus provided, so ordered from the main menu for both of our kids. Ordered the fettuccine alfredo for our seven year old, which was described on the menu as having parsley. We asked for it with no parsley, and when it came out it had a bunch of rosemary and thyme mixed into the sauce (which was not mentioned at all on the menu). We tried to get my daughter to try it anyways since we didn't want to wait even longer for something else. She took a few bites but didn't like it, and we let the waitress know once she finally made her way back to us about 30 minutes later. The waitress told us she would not remove it from our check since it was touched, the premade alfredo sauce comes that way, and that alfredo sauce "implies there are herbs in it". What??? I've never had alfredo come with large amounts of thyme and rosemary in it. Pepper maybe. She then asked us if we wanted to purchase an additional meal for our daughter, a kid's size mac and cheese. Where was that on the menu?? Not there. Why were we not told there were kid's options before we ordered? We opted out. We won't be coming back. Disappointed with the experience. I am so disappointed. I used to eat here all the time before Covid. To be honest this restaurant slipped my mind. But today decided to go and so disappointed. Service was great! Waitstaff was very pleasant and accommodating but the food completely lacked flavor. I ordered the salmon and quinoa/wild rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables. The salmon was overcooked and dry the pilaf had zero quinoa or flavor and the vegetables were the best part of the dish and the only thing with real flavor. So sad. This used to be a fav place for my friends and I. I feel like the dining experience in this town has become very expensive and the price does not reflect the quality. read more

Excellent food and service. We were in Eugene, from Hillsboro to see a concert at the Matthew Knight Arena, and it appeared that the Wild Duck Café would be the perfect restaurant/bar to enjoy ourselves before the show. And it was. Our server was Summer and she was so friendly and fun. She knew the menu very well, and was able to assist my daughter and I in our selections. I enjoyed the Rock Point Pinot Noir, while my daughter had vodka and soda. We started with a very flavorful Spinach and Artichoke Dip. So good. Then my daughter had the Hawaiian Pork Sliders with fries, and I had the Reuben with fries. Everything was hot and fresh. We will be back in a few weeks for another show, and we will definitely return to the Wild Duck. Be early, as they fill up for the pre-show festivities. read more

To start this review on a good note the food was absolutely fantastic, everyone at the table had positive things to say about their meals. When we came in we were informed that the kitchen was behind and that although we could be seated our food would take a while. It took us about two hours to get our food which was a little more than we were expecting. However, the owner of establishment let us know it was because they were having prep difficulties in the morning and the kitchen was behind on ingredients and stock. As someone who works in the food/restaurant industry I'm empathetic to these issues. Overall, i'd say this is a very family friendly restaurant and the ambiance was very fun and sporty, I would definitely return as long as I knew the service would be quicker! read more

Oh boy, where to start? First off 20% service charge on anything you order which is presumptive to say the least. Waited for solid 10 min at bar before my brother walked around to the service area to get someone's attention for drinks. We were finally asked about our second round after sitting with empty glasses for some time. Next we ordered the artichoke dip which did not come until after I flagged someone down for our tab to leave. He said it's coming right now after we were well done with our second round. We told him we didn't want it but were stuck with it anyway. Got our tab with the 20% tip added and no itemized receipt. I can't think of a better place to dine on NYE than at the Wild Duck. The students are on winter break and we had a low-key dining experience at the Wild Duck. I bring my family and friends here every NYE. Everyone ordered something different and all were very happy with their choices. Our server, Michelle, has been our server many times over the years. She is personable and very accommodating. Kudos to Michelle for creating a cohesive environment for our yearly celebration. I have been here over a dozen times in the last two years. First thing I do when I get to Eugene is grab the beer cheese soup and pretzel. Recently I went up early for parents weekend and got the beer cheese and pretzel, amazing as usual!! I told my husband when he got up we have to go. Low and behold, Parents weekend had begun. We were excited to see it had reopened. We came by Saturday Morning at 1030/11. It wasn't busy. The hostess greeted us and asked how she could help...in a tone like she didn't know why we were there-we said two for breakfast. They sat us and never returned. We kept looking to make eye contact with a server, nothing. The server who sat us was wearing flip flops-which close toes are required for serving. I looked into the kitchen and saw a long haired young man making food-his hair was not tied back at all. After 20 mins of sitting-no water-no acknowledgment-we walked out. As we walked out, the owner I believe it to be, and that same server in flip flops, walked outside-I thought they were going to apologize but No, they were completely oblivious to their lack of service and the fact that we had just decided to take our money elsewhere. Kids meals are 8.99 and my daughters Mac n cheese came in a large ramekin and had zero flavor (they graciously took it off but reminded us it was wasn't Kraft.. obviously I don't go out to eat to have my kids eat kraft that that's a relief). Ordered an appetizer that came after our food... when asked about it they said "oh yea let me just heat it up really quick". ‍ My Hawaiian plate wasn't fresh... old white rice that was crunchy and Mac salad again.. no flavor and no color.. did not look appetizing at all. We--a party of four-- went to the Wild Duck Cafe before attending a concert at MKA, on Sunday, Nov. 24th, around 5:30 pm. It was undertandably crowded, but we were told we could sit on the "bar" side, if we could find seats. We found a spot at the counter by the window, decided what we wanted and ordered at the bar. We were told that if a table opened up, we could move. This seems like an odd option, and we saw numerous servers wandering the restaurant trying to find the people who'd ordered it. Several times, someone tried to give us food that was for someone else. (We were tempted to accept at one point). It took a while for our beverages to arrive. The server dropped off two, and we had to wait another ten+ minutes for the other two. Understandable, considering when we were there. She apologized, and we were good. The real issue was that we did not get our food until literally everyone else had been served-- and most of the crowd had left. It was probably 7:30 before we finally got our plates, and the concert started at 7 pm. We ended up completely missing the first performer, which was disappointing. Our server was great and very apologetic. Apparently one of the employees left abruptly during the rush, and our ticket was lost. So, the kitchen didn't know we were waiting, I suppose. I am not writing this to complain, but in hope that restaurant manager/owner sees it, and can make some changes in how they handle very busy situations like this. The experience was chaotic, and more stressful than it needed to be, for guests and staff alike. The food was delicious, and there was a chic vibe. The first and last time I ever eat at the Wild Duck Cafe. I went in with a gift certificate I got during the KPNW radio auction thinking it might be a nice place to try. I went Saturday at 6pm after the Duck game and ate near the four tvs in the bar area. I ordered a single item Hawaiian Plate lunch a side salad and a dessert that I asked to be served at the end. Killing the cert and adding a dollar to pay for it. The salad came with the plate lunch and not a minute later the dessert arrived cause as the bartender/waitress said "the cooks misfired this and I thought you would want it hot" My only reply was a "I have no idea what to do with it" since I had all the other food still sitting in front of me. The dessert would have been apple pie soup when I was done eating. The waitress picked up the dish and hurry walked behind the bar to a SLAM noise of dish hitting dish tub with force, half the bar turned to see what crashed. Part way through the meal I felt like I wasn't wanted there and just asked for the cost of my dessert back and got handed a dollar of the 6 the dessert went for. The other bartender said, "You payed with a cert this is all you get". So I was out a dessert and the cash from what was violently thrown out. And then the 2nd bartender tried to gas light me by saying "How did you know she slammed anything?" I mention half the bar knew what happened. I told her as well that I knew she didn't care but it was my 1st and Last time there. I also told the 1st bartender/dish slammer that she was super rude for what she did on my way out. This was somewhere I was really looking forward to try as a huge duck fan. Came in at 7:50 with more than 2 hours of service still being open and I was turned away because their kitchen was "closed". They were still taking orders for other people they had seated. I wasn't even allowed to just put in a to-go order. And I stress, there was multiple hours until close and others were being helped. I've been to The Wild Duck under previous management. Their menu is unique in this area for including Hawaiian dishes. I found the food tasty and abundant. There will be two more meals from what i was served on New Year's Eve. The service was exceptional and friendly and all requests from our large party we meet with grace and immediacy. If you're wanting to get a quick meal, don't come here. We got seated and the bartender asked if we wanted drinks, we got a soda and iced tea. It then took about 15 minutes to get our food order in. For about 45 minutes we didn't get a single refill and were still waiting for our food. All we got was biscuits and gravy and eggs and potatoes, should be a simple and quick meal to make but oh no. It's like the kitchen staff was making one plate at a time. The potatoes were awful, more like eating potato chips and got about 10 small ass chips. The food was pretty basic and I could definitely make a better breakfast at home. The bartender (who was our waiter) saw us 3 times in a matter of an hour and 45 minutes! I got told my food would be out in 15 minutes and have been waiting here an hour because when she called out my name for the to go order, she completely ignored me and gave it to a door dasher.
