While strolling through the main floor of Union Station on Saturday, we happened upon the secretive reception table with a tiny sign. We inquired and were told of the Cooper Lounge. Despite being in every day clothing, we had our IDs checked and were sent past a velvet rope up stairs. There we were met by another hostess and we had our choice of seating. We selected a set of couches and had the iPads handed to us. Prices are ~$13 for a fancy cocktail and beer ran about $7-10. Easily doable considering the beautiful ambiance, high quality service, and quiet noise volume. I had the Meridian, which was amazing. Moscato, lemon vodka, lemon juice and rind, and simple syrup. I would drink it again and again. Highly recommended and a decent portion size. My boys had beer and we were brought a little tray of three types of nuts. If you are in the Union Station and are looking for a quiet area to lounge, I would highly recommend seeking out the little reception desk across from the burger shop on the main floor. read more

This place is a gem. The service is impeccable. My Granny would have LOVED IT. "Q" introduced himself as our bar tender and shook our hands. We ordered our drinks and Q gave us little dishes of nuts on a nice silver tray. The décor is breathtakingly beautiful and exquisite and yet still interesting and mid-century. The lounge is a little slice of heaven perched overlooking Union station so great for people watching. This is a special occasion every day sort of place and I look forward to my next visit. This place is amazing! Not only is the view great, the staff treats you like royalty. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, we were attended to. The overall mood and atmosphere were also perfect. We were there as the sun was setting through the windows of Union Station. We couldn't have asked for better ambiance. The music was also perfect to set the mood for the evening. Surprisingly, the noise level of Union Station was not overwhelming and we could still enjoy the music. My friend and I ordered from the iPads (swanky!) but our waitress was also there to answer any questions we may have had. I ordered my usual (a martini) and my friend ordered the Cosmo de Oro. Both were made to perfection. We also ordered the charcuterie tray. The website says that Stoic & Genuine provides small plates; however, our waitress informed us that they do not on certain nights (which happened to be the night we went). This place has a great location in Union Station. You definitely want to make reservations, or you won't get in, unless you're a guest at the hotel. We visited when they decorated for the holidays so it was exceptionally festive. Because it's above the station there is less noise so you can have a romantic time or you can meet friends and have a blast. We enjoyed the cheese plate, where we were able to select the cheeses we wanted to sample. They have specialty cocktails to try or you can order bottles of Wine. This place is amazingly beautiful! This lounge has a beautiful peaceful setting with the hustle and bustle of union station. Came here for a friend's birthday (3 of us) and we spent the same amount of money on 3 cocktails that we did on dinner at The Kitchen Next Door (dinner, dessert, and a bottle of wine). We ordered the Approximation, Coloradier, and a Vieux Carre. In my opinion, the Vieux Carre at Williams and Graham and The Green Russel are much better. Wouldn't recommend this place. Just about the classiest damn place I've ever been to. It's beautiful and grown up and uncrowded and you can have a nice date there without yelling your head off to be heard or squinting to see the menu cause it's so damn dark. It feels luxurious and exclusive. Excellent service, delicious drinks, and the BEST bone marrow I've ever had. Cheese and salumi plate was high quality, oysters were fresh and wonderful. I cannot overstate how elegant and lovely an experience it was and we will definitely be back! Only feedback--the Nitro Sundae needs work. We expected to be wowed, especially after everything was so great--and it was really disappointing. Anglaise/Ice cream, strawberries, chocolate chips. That's it. Once it melted some it was clear how delicious the anglaise was but if you're charging $9 and calling it a sundae it seems it should have some whipped cream, hot fudge, and some pizzazz to it. read more

The Cooper Lounge is the Cruise Room 2.0, which makes me happy and is not surprising since the owners of the Oxford and the owners of the Crawford are one and the same. It doesn't have all the art deco wall decor that gives the Cruise Room its special ambiance, but it does have classy, retro furniture and a stunning view of the great hall in Union Station. The bar staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and you can order up food from Stoic & Genuine. The drinks are well-balanced, priced appropriately for the atmosphere, and served up on individual, faux-silver trays that make the Cooper Lounge experience even just a bit more special. Cooper Lounge can be accessed by requesting a table from the hostess downstairs and an escort through the halls of the Crawford to the lounge. Hopefully these tasteful measures of access control will prevent the lounge from being overrun by the rowdy bro crowd that takes over the Cruise Room all too often. The hostess in the great hall informed us that reservations can be made, and are recommended, Sunday - Wednesday and the other nights seating is first come, first serve. read more

I am really disappointed in my experience here. My girlfriend and I were up meeting some friend for drinks. We arrived and there was a young man who was on guard duty downstairs. He was trying to organize a larger party and seemed like he was frustrated. My girlfriend said that we have people seated and if we could go up. He have my girlfriend the "one second" finger. I'm sorry, that is beyond rude. You do not do that to a woman. We get to go upstairs, meet our friend and start to have a good time. It took the waitress 10 minutes to get to us and another 7 minute (I timed it) for our drinks to arrive. All the while out waitress had an attitude of opulence. It seamed like she was offended that we were were there. My Manhattan was good, that was about it. I wanted to give their food a try so we ordered a 7 cheese platter and I have been craving some steak tartare. This is where I think I really lost it. I understand $19 for the tartare (I would prefer not to die) but over $40 for two bites each of cheese?!?! Come on! I have eaten at nicer places that the portions are more appealing for that price. It was after I ordered the food that our waitress warmed a little to us (Oh wow! The guy in the baseball hat and polo shirt has money!) but it was too late for me. I was steaming mad. I know was was prepared to spend over $100 in drinks alone but I was expecting a lot more. The bar was maybe a third full in a Wednesday night. Our order was finally taken...we were only checked on once the whole time we were there and water was not replenished. When the bill came we again waited for our sever to come back. We had to again flag the hostess down to get someone to run our cards. I wanted to like this place but the terrible service ruined it for me. It's in a great location, second floor of Union Station with a speakeasy feel. You need to make reservations to get drinks here. Despite us making a reservation months in advance of the Christmas season, our group didn't get greeted by the server until 25 minutes after our arrival. Upon ordering my drink (I asked for the Penicillin), the server persuaded me not to get it as it tasted too much like medicine. I had been eyeing the menu for the weeks wanting to try it but she insisted it wasn't for me and instead ordered me a sazerac ($9 more expensive, of course!). As our group was finishing up, I had to use the restroom and when I returned she had taken the remaining 1/3 of my $25 drink! Even though she was absent for the majority of our time there, she sure didn't have a problem taking my drink before I was finished and then insisting we all hand her our signed tabs like children filing out of a classroom. I'll rate everything 1-10 by category: Location 10. 2nd floor of the union station is awesome. Ambiance 7. They are trying a little to hard but still nice. Music 2. The soft jazz is pretentious and boring. Staff 5. Nice but not very knowledgeable for a place that claims to serve high end craft cocktails on their website. Selection 2. Whoever is doing their buying is predictable and clearly lacks the knowledge and connections necessary to have a great selection of spirits. Drinks 6. Not bad but the lack of cocktail knowledge and experience shows. I ordered a sazerac. The bartender used bourbon (should be rye) absinthe spray but did not chill it, no peychauds, way too much simple, lemon peel muddled which I was not happy with. However, he mixed it in a small glass when there were 2 mixing glasses right in front of him, over diluted the crap out of it, used his julep strainer upside down and the worst part was he gave it to me on the rocks! Not technically correct, bad technique and an average cocktail that was also garnished incorrectly. This is the equivalent of of cheescake factory calling itself fine dining. I will be back though because the location is awesome but I will be drinking whiskey neat rather than cocktails. read more

I've visited Denver 3 times this summer and am always looking for great bars. I have found a handful and this past trip didn't let me down. I visited to different bars that both told me to go check out the new bars at Union Station (Terminal Bar and Cooper Lounge). A patron I sat next to at Willams and Graham specifically told me I needed to go to the upstairs bar. It was a bit tough for an out of towner to find as I couldn't find the main entrance to Union Station, just kept seeing the restaurants ( I think I hadn't walked far enough down Wynkoop). I asked someone I saw walking by where to go. He directed me to a small desk with a woman sitting at it. Little did I know that you're supposed to have a reservation to imbibe at the bar. Lucky for me on this particular evening they weren't full and I was sent up a roped off set of stairs to the mezzanine above the main floor. This was a pretty snazzy looking bar/ lounge, several areas where a group could have an intimate conversation on cute chairs and couches, a table at one end perhaps for a special dinner and a gorgeous bar in the middle. I saddled up to the bar and settled on a drink called Paradise Express. It had rum, ginger (not sure it was a splash of ginger beer or ginger ale), some grapefruit, local Leopold Three Pins, grenadine and cocchi. I really liked the drink I tried the Leopold Three Pins on its own as I'd never had it before. I couldn't even taste the rum or the Three Pins in the drink it was so well balanced. It was served on a cool silver tray with a side of hazelnuts. Some other drinks on the menu included The Meridian with moscato, honey vodka and lemon bitters, Cafe Con Leche with tequila, iced coffee simple syrup and zorani (I've never heard of this), their take on the Old Fashioned, a riff on a Cosmo and a Sour and a handful more. The bartenders were nice and knowledgeable and I loved checking out this classy bar. Next time I am in Denver I will go for another visit. I also learned there is a hotel in Union Station called the Crawford Hotel ( many hotel rooms are on the same floor as the bar). I can't wait to be served another drink on a little silver tray with hazelnuts this place was a class act! read more
