Absolutely loved the food and drinks. The burrata dish was honestly one of the best burrata renditions I've ever had. The green sauce was vibrant and fresh and really a balanced the rest of the dish. The tuna empanada like thing was also good. Love the blue corn shell. The sauce had ants in it though which kind of freaked me out, but it did taste good. Although I knew this was a tuna dish, I didn't know what to expect. Kind of wish the tuna was maybe seared or was something different, but I did like the dish. The short ribs were so tender and delicious. The tortillas were fresh and wonderful as well. The tres leches dessert was also really tasty and had the perfect ratio of cake to milk without it all falling apart from being too wet. In terms of drinks, the corn sour and beet spritz were absolutely amazing. The Negroni was good as well but I think I prefer a classic Italian one. Service was good although sometimes I felt like our server was watching us too closely and I felt weird. In addition on two separate occasions, the cooks that brought the food out touched the food on our plates to make it look nicer. I want to trust that they are clean, but in this day and age of new food poisonings happening all the time, and the fact that they had to open the door since we were outside, I just felt kind of gross about it. A few years ago my friend Kelly and I hit up Alma Fonda Fina (pre-Michelin) so this time, naturally, we had to visit the little sister, Mezcaleria Alma, located next door. Dreamy Chef Owen took care of us at the Chef's Table, encouraging us to start with a Clover Club (her) and a Colada (him), both of which made our first dish, the Tostada de Tora, taste smoove like velvet. From there it was a cacophony of flava', from Mollete de Mejillones to Carne Apache, and from Flautas de Pollo to Barriga de Cerdo. Because Kelly and I are Monarch alumni, we also paired a Carajillo with our dessert of Tres Leches, just like Brother Aquinas taught us. We can debate technique, texture, acidity, balance, and presentation, but every review ultimately comes down to one question: Did it make you say, "Yum"? Mescaleria Alma made me say it over and over again. I've been here several times. A recent visit wasn't just my best meal here, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere. The first thing that captures your attention is the room. A stunning wall of spirits rises behind the bar and seamlessly blends into the open kitchen, creating one continuous stage. Watching the team work is mesmerizing. Tiny containers of herbs, sauces, oils, citrus, garnishes, and countless other components come together with quiet precision. It reminds me of watching a great sushi counter. Alone, they're just ingredients. Together, they become something far greater than the sum of their parts. The hospitality begins the moment you walk in. Dominique, the general manager, welcomed me back, remembered me from previous visits, and made me feel genuinely happy that I had returned. That's increasingly rare. I always sit at the bar because that's where a restaurant makes me feel comfortable. When I first sat down, the bartender was busy and focused. Over the course of the evening, cocktails became conversations. We talked about flavors, restaurants, and what makes a memorable dining experience. By the end of the night he slid over a bartender's choice, a Corn Sour, not because I ordered it, but because he thought I'd enjoy it. He was right. That's the difference between service and hospitality. Then there was the food and the taste of the cocktails. The kitchen and bar were firing. The Clover Club cocktail was beautifully balanced and wonderfully complex. The Mollete de Mejillones with smoked mussels, scallop aioli, morita hot sauce, and fresh lemon was extraordinary. Then came the Burrata con Huitlacoche. Let's not overthink this. The tomatillo salsa verde was orgasmic. Bright. Fresh. Acidic. Alive. It elevated every bite. The Pescadilla de Marlín finished with smoky tuna, molten cheese, crisp tortilla, and a beautiful salsa that tied everything together. I've stopped trying to decide whether I like Mescaleria Alma, Alma Fonda Fina, or Alteño more. It's becoming the wrong question. Chef Curiel and his team have created restaurants with different personalities but the same DNA: creativity, precision, warmth, and genuine hospitality. As someone who has spent a career helping organizations perform better, I couldn't help but admire what they've built. One exceptional restaurant is difficult. Building several at this level is organizational excellence. Walking back to my car, I thought one thing: I'm lucky. Lucky that people devote this much imagination, discipline, and care to feeding complete strangers. Some people see a bill. I saw craftsmanship. Every penny was worth it. The loud music makes it tough to hear other tables, but since the seating is close and intimate, you can still easily hear the people you're with, which I actually liked. We were excited to come back knowing they fixed their ventilation issues, first time we teared up due to the smoke. We sat at the chef's counter, which I recommend to anyone coming here. It's fun to see the food prepared, and talk to the chefs. We also learned a few tricks to take home. We just came back from Mexico City, so it was fun to see how this place compares. It's definitely truly authentic, it reminded us of being back in Mexico City with fresh ingredients, spices and flavor profile. Aguachile De Erizo: I got this for the uni, it was a nice dish, very light and summery. I can't say I loved it though. I ate the uni first, and then the rest of it almost resembled a nice fruit salad with fish. It's small, so you can eat it in a few bites. Tostada de toro: Everyone gets this, and you should too. A great burst of flavor, with a spicy finish. It's beautifully made, and the fish is amazing. Flautas De Pollo: This fell flat for me, it was too bland and nothing stood out. Pescadilla De "Marlin": This was a really nice, well balanced dish. It was more street food style, and well executed. Costillal De Res: The meat fell off the bone, great flavor and filling if you're hungry. We had a few fun mezcal cocktails and a margarita. This use to be ProsperOats but Mezcaleria Alma did amazing job transforming this limited space into cozy but modern eatery. A Intimate, rustic-chic, with a chef's counter and bar seating. Definitely a place to interact. We were gifted to come and experience this restaurant. Originally, our first visit was to Alteño and did enjoy the offering that was presented in unique way. One thing that stood out was the dry aging Toro on display at the mezcaleria. We have tried most of their flag ship offerings. Two things that stood out for me was the tostada de toro and Costilla de res. Of course, I had check Yelp photos and reviews before coming and those two stood out. We did order few other dishes. All of them were delicious in very unique way. Very different. Servers were very professional, changed out the utensils between meals and always within reach if you had questions. $150 later, we were happy! read more

What a wonderful experience. I had a near 10 hour layover so decided to checkout some highly recommended spots and this was at the top of the list. Made a reservation for 9 pm but got into town around 3:30 and they made sure to get me a table right away which was so kind of them and something they did NOT have to do. Kelsey was my server and she was so beautiful both inside and out. Very warm, welcoming and gave me great recommendations that were both personal for her but also worked with me when I wasn't sure about what to get after she recommended a few things. The food....was...SENSATIONAL. The Tostada De Toro I think every person needs to try once in their life. I feel like for whatever reason Mexican seafood is still underrated to the average person as I mentioned to Kelsey. They told me I could eat it open face or use a fork and knife so I tried it both ways starting with the first couple of bites open face. To be honest you could eat this upside down in a blizzard and it would be great, it was that damn good! The people sitting next to me giggled because I looked like I was having a foodgasm from my reaction to every bite. Then the Aguachile De Erizo had me licking my lips and then eventually drinking the "broth" (hope that's the right term) to the last drop with Kelsey's full approval hahahaha. I had never tried Uni before and what a great introduction it was. I kept finding pieces of scallops and uni in my mouth after and it was such a pleasant surprise. The Non-Alcoholic Colada I actually had first and it made be feel like I was on a beach somewhere. Delicious! The only downside to the meal was that I had to walk through the city after I left so I couldn't keep eating more which I really wanted to. But that's a blessing in disguise because I'm so excited to come back and try even more dishes that I didn't get to and I immediately recommended it to friends who live in Denver but were out of town and couldn't join me when I was there. Again cannot say enough about the service and the atmosphere which was so sexy. It felt both relaxed and accessible while still feeling upscale. (I mean I walked in with a backpack and a sleeveless shirt and didn't feel out of place or too dressed down at all. And if I was the staff didn't make me feel this whatsoever). What a phenomenal dinner - I was lucky to come in a group of four so got to try the majority of the menu, and while every dish was delicious, the aguachile de erizo (uni, scallops, mandarin aguachile, cripsy ginger, chile seco oil) was a standout with a unique contrast of sweet from the mandarin with the spicy chilis, and multiple texture levels from the mandarins, scallops and uni melding together into a symphony of flavors. I don't drink alcohol so didn't try their extensive mezcal list, but their non-alcoholic colada was my favorite drink of the year so far. With lyres white cane, pineapple, coconut, epazote and lime, it was not too-sweet elevation of the colada to a truly memorable level. Service was very personable and quick, and while the restaurant is small, had a great atmostphere for small groups (there is only one table that fits 4). Wow. Seriously wow. I've never said this before, but if there was a 6 star option on Yelp, Mezcaleria Alma would get it. Everything is perfection from the delicious food, the outstanding service, and the beautiful decor. I know this sounds like hyperbole but dining here was an experience I'll never forget. Let's start with the food. Everything was perfection. Our favorite was the aguachile de erizo (scallops and uni). The Santa Barbara uni is to die for. I'm not even a fan of uni nor scallops but the dish was so good especially with the aguachile. Do not skip that dish especially if you like a little bit of spicy. The Tostada del Toro was next up. This is the dish that everyone gets here and for good reason. First off, look at all those chives. The tostada shell was amazing with a nice charred taste to it and the aged toro (aged 3-6 days) was so flavorful and melted in the mouth. The burrata con huitlacoche was the most unique burrata dish I have ever had. The combination of the toasted bread, savory burrata, sweet nut crunch, and the unique taste of huitlacoche (Mexican caviar) was so well-done and just all fit so well together. Last but not least, the tres leches. Hands down, the best dessert I have ever had. Not too sweet and just heavenly. Do not skip this. I'm pretty sure I said "wow" after every bite. Second, drinks. I love mezcal. If you are a fan of mezcal or tequila, this place is a must go. I was given a free birthday shot with a side of crickets (I hate bugs but try it, it's actually really good), orange, and wormsalt. We got the Stinger and Colada. I was warned that the Stinger is a love it or hate it drink. I personally enjoyed it but it is very in your face with the herbal taste. The Colada is much easier. Last but not least, the service. Jorge, the sous chef, deserves 6 stars alone. He really elevated our experience which was already great to next level. He took care of us professionally while also being very personable. I would highly recommend getting a seat at the chef's table if you can. I've been trying to get a reservation here for a few months and finally got in last night. After being highly recommended by multiple people, this place did not let me down. We split a few things, including the tuna crudo, burrata, and the short rib. My favorites were the tuna crudo and the short rib. I also ordered the corn sour, which was awesome-very similar to the corn margarita they have at their sister restaurant next-door. Our server was also great. Wow! This place was incredible! Honestly, just try one of everything. We arrived early to our reservation and the host kindly asked us to wait outside and turned on the heater outside. We were offered drinks while we waited and had a chance to enjoy them outside while we waited for our table. Once at our table, our server was amazing and happy to explain the menu style and make recommendations. We ordered and put appetizers came out in a timely manner. My only dislike was the Aguachile with Uni, but I think I've just determined that I don't like Uni, as personal preference. I'm sure if you like uni - you'll like this dish. Service was top notch. Wow! What a fun experience with amazing food! When we made the reservation, I messaged the restaurant to see if it was okay if we brought our 3 month old in her stroller because she's not old enough for a babysitter, and they were super accommodating! They made sure to put us at a table at the back that had a little extra room on the side for her (small) stroller. Be aware though that it really is a small space, so anything other than a small stroller would not fit. However, we had no problem. The food was all so amazing. Inventive, delicious, and really an amazing ode to Mexico City! I felt transported back by the tortillas especially. A couple favorites were the tuna tostada and the burrito. So yummy! Their cocktail list is really nice too, and we tried the daquiri, the Negroni, and the old fashioned. Fun takes on some classics with mezcal. Once again, an amazing meal was had at the hands of chef Johnny Curiel. Mezcaleria Alma serves up a different selection of food, this time to pay homage to Mexico City. It is simply, exquisite here! After perusing the cocktail menu, I landed on the Negroni. Perfection! For food, we selected a few things from the "Garnachas". We started with the Mollete De Mejillones which was divine. Not at all fishy and the fried sourdough bread-omg, so good! Literally could eat this every day! Next, was the Burrata Con Huitlacoche. Again, with the fried sourdough bread! So good! The bread paired with the fresh heirloom tomatoes with burrata...literally chef's kiss. I had to try the Flautas De Pollo as my "main entree". Crispy tortillas, deliciously seasoned chicken, and the mole blanco sauce - so, so good. We did order one more item, unnecessary based on how full we were, but that didn't stop me from trying a bite of the Burrita De Guisado. We were excited to try this new restaurant and I was excited to bring my partner to their first-ever Michelin Star experience. It's about as affordable as you can get for that! We had chef's counter seating, and we enjoyed watching Jordan prepare dishes and chatting with him about the food. Service, of course, was excellent! The restaurant feels very chic and romantic. Definitely a great, hip date night spot. There are only two vegetarian items on the menu, and the restaurant is essentially tapas style, so I had both options. The burrata was delicious and unique, and the mushroom dish was very good but not as noteworthy. I think if I were vegan rather than vegetarian, it would've been disappointing. It already somewhat is, since I'd have to get the exact same thing if I were to return. I know they mix up the menu every few months, but it's unclear whether they'll change the vegetarian dishes. If I could give 3 1/2 stars I would. First impressions were that it was a cute spot, the staff were nice but not overly friendly. The drinks were fantastic, the Colada was superb! Most of the food however was just ok. I'll start with the highlight of my dinner which was the Crudo de Kanpachi the roasted corn was such a lovely accompaniment to the dish it was a well balanced, fresh and flavorful dish. Now to my woes, I had been looking forward to the most talked about dish the Tostada de Toro but I felt like the spicy oil on top overpowered the dish and I really wanted the fatty tuna to shine more. The Flautas de Pollo were flat and underwhelming, the best part of the dish were the pickled onions, but it wasn't enough to save the dish. The Costillal de Res was under seasoned and underwhelming, the fresh tortillas were lovely though. I did try to visit as a walk-in when they opened but it was not possible and I won't eat after 8pm. So in mid-December, I got lucky and reserved at 7pm on a Wednesday. I sat at the chefs counter. I noticed several items were still on the menu from 2024 and either at same price or slightly higher. I started with an excellent Old Fashioned and the Burrata Con Huitlacoche appetizer. Large globe of burrata cheese with a tasty Mexican succotash. I got the Pork Belly entree with a glass of Casa Magoni Sangiovese-Cabernet wine. I was served by Issac. This place absolutely blew me away! I did have to make my reservation the full 60 days out but it was well worth the wait! We sat at the chef counter which was such a great experience to see them at work and Zack gave us wonderful recommendations the entire time. I started with the Beet Spritz, and it was such a unique cocktail that was bright and slightly earthy from the beet. Easily one of the most unique and well-balanced cocktails I've had, I would come back just for this! The food was just as impressive. The Crudo de Kanpachi was incredibly fresh with citrus notes and a subtle heat that didn't overpower the fish. We asked for a side of sourdough bread to soak up all the remaining sauce which was absolutely wonderful. The standout of the night, though, was the Tostada de Toro. The toro was perfectly paired with avocado and the hint of heat made from the habanero aioli and sesame chili oil. I would go back just for just that bite alone! The Carne Apache was also so flavorful with great texture and acidity to balance it out. The Burrita de Guisado was rich but delicious and a perfect contrast to the lighter crudos. The Costillal de Res was so tender and had a wonderful smokey flavor all throughout. The whole experience was so thoughtful and beautifully executed without being over the top. Our current favorite restaurant in Denver! Sister restaurant (and right next door) to the Michelin-starred Alma Fonda Fina, we actually prefer the mezcaleria--much more casual, much easier to fetch a table, and it's exciting to sit at the bar counter and chat with the staff. Shout out to Alyssa for always being a friendly face! A "love letter to Mexico City" and seafood forward, we absolutely adore the menu here. We've tried almost everything, and some standout dishes include: - Scallop + uni aguachile: to die for! Could seriously eat one of these every day for the rest of my life! - Tuna tostada: amazing! best tostada i've ever tasted, hands down. Can also add a bit of uni as an extra treat! - Rice with wild mushroom broth and cured duck egg yolk: YUMMY, creamy, umami goodness! can add a bit of truffle to this dish as well for even more powerful flavor! - Pork carnitas burrito: sooooo good! love the guacamole. Also has one of the best margaritas I've ever had. Denver is a big, big margarita town, so this is saying a lot! Here's an insider hack--this place is open late night, until midnight (which is quite rare on Denver's elevated dining scene). It's awesome to walk in here around 10 pm, grab a seat at the bar, and nosh on one of the best burritos EVER for less than $20. Definitely recommend! Can you tell that I absolutely love this place? We were doing a bit of roadtrip and had a few nights in Denver and so after doing some research, it seemed that Mezcaleria and Alma are amongst two fo the most popular places to dine. I was surprised how easy it was to get reservations, also because they do open pretty late, but also that they were Michelin starred! Their menu is really affordable for Michelin and maybe I'm just used to seeing $$$ whenever Michelin is next to the establishment! I loved the vibes and aesthetics of the restaurant. Felt like I teleported to Mexico City for dinner. We started off with the snapper ceviche which literally was amazing. The snapper was really fresh and there were droplets of chili oil in the sauce that really gave it a kick and brought everything together. The dish itself was super tangy and zesty at the same time so I feel like everything went well together. Next up was the toro. i mean, the amount of chives on this thing! The toro proportion was just right. There is this place in Chicago that has a very similar dish but they put WAY too much toro on it, it gets sickening and almost ruins the dish. But here, a must order for sure. The lime really compliments everything. Because we were eating a lot of seafood, we wanted something vegetarian, so we opted for the burrata for a nice palette cleanser. This was not only a palette cleanser, but I think, runner up favorite item of the night. Everything in this little bowl worked together so well.. so creamy, tangy.. and the sourdough bread that comes with it? TO DIE FOR. Only change i would make is probably removing the green tomatoes. I feel like it didn't do anything for it. Last but not least, the pork belly burrito. Let me tell you, this tortilla will be the softest tortilla you will EVER have. It feels like a fluffy pillow. The beans in the burrito are so good.. I don't even know if there was pork in the burrito and I didn't care. It might as well be a bean burrito and I would be more than content. This is BY FAR the best item on the menu we tried that night. We ended the night with the tres leches which was just sweet enough. Very moist and fluffy! I'm super happy that we got to try this fabulous restaurant while we were in Denver. Can't wait to come back and try more items next time! read more

5 stars but with some caveats - a few of the dishes we had were just fine, and I hope that as this is a newer restaurant they'll eventually get everything excellent. Let's start with all the things that got them a 5-star rating in my eyes: 1. BURRATA CON HUITLACOCHE: truly the best burrata dish I've ever had. This was a perfect mix of flavors, portioned well, and with some of the best tomatoes I've ever had. 2. TRES LECHES CAKE: no notes. Super delicious. 3. CORN SOUR COCKTAIL: this one is twofold - first, the drink itself impressed my very critical fiancé who tends to like only spirit forward cocktails that aren't sweet. Second, our server was really great about this - she suggested it with the promise that if it wasn't to taste, it would be replaced. Both service and quality really came through here. 4. INTERIOR: Super comfortable, enough space, good atmosphere 5. SERVICE: Knowledgable and friendly server who (I felt) really put the restaurant's best foot forward. Now, why did I go back and forth if this was a 4 or a 5? The Tostada didn't make our top 5 list, but it was still a very good version of something I've had before. I felt the COSTILLAL DE RES for what it was, was a bit mediocre and overall a bit dry. The PESCADILLA DE "MARLIN" was definitely good, but not memorable like the Buratta was. Overall, as an out-of-towner, if I come back to Denver I'll definitely want to come back here and see how the menu has changed, evolved, and been perfected over time.
