The Cordial Cork is coming up in my opinion. In the past they struggled with service and food consistency, but the last ten times I've been over the last two years, the consistency problems have vanished. Best cocktails in town. Not that there is any real competition. Best wine in town, also, no competition. The menu is enticing, offering real New American recipes. The execution and ingredients aren't all super fresh or fancy, but the fundamentals are there. I'm not a fan of their taco tuesday... just not great tacos. Almost all the apps are great though. The Burgers are fairly good. If i was judging the food quality alone, it'd be like 3 stars. But the menu offerings, the drinks, the atmosphere, and the service are all boosting the overall experience. The atmosphere is lovely in a historic general store with antique shelves and woodwork. A true diamond in the rough...this wine bar and eatery is located in one of the ancient former industrial buildings of the Depot District. But don't hesitate to get in here, just watch your step a bit. It's dim and romantic with a retro vibe. We ate at the bar which always tends to give a good feel for a new place. There were two barmaids who came and went as they had to serve tables too, but service was quite attentive. We were primarily served by Melissa (I hope I remembered her name right!) and she was so helpful with answering questions. We happened to come on the half price app day** so naturally we tried the Breaking Bread... incredible, easily sufficient for four people to share. It was warm, soft, cheesy and full of flavor. The marinara was delicious as was the blended cheese dip. We took half home and enjoyed it the next day. My husband had the smoked salmon sandwich. It was beautiful to behold, smelled so delectable, and off the charts delicious. After I took a bite I was jealous. I did thoroughly enjoy my BLT+E with a wonderful runny egg and thick fresh tomato. I think I would have liked it better on toasted bread vs. the bun. Everything on the menu sounded good. I had a peek at the brunch menu too. I had a cocktail called the Farm Market which was so refreshing and like a taste of summer which I needed badly on this bitter cold evening. They have a great cocktail list and of course an extensive wine list which is set up in unique categories and fun to read. My husband was happy with his wine. They also have port! Four kinds! Melissa kindly gave me a taste of one and I am SO coming back for a port flight. A word on accessibility- the main entrance has two steps up and there are sturdy grab bars on both sides but you do need to be a bit cautious at the bottom. I was told there is a rear or side entry that is wheelchair accessible. It was way too cold to explore but I'll check it out on our next visit in the very near future. If you're thinking of giving the Cork a try, don't hesitate. We arrived a bit after 9:00 for Sunday brunch - the first customers! We didn't receive our food until 9:50 a.m. Although I enjoy a leisurely burnch, this seemed like a long time to wait. Our server did not check in with us regularly, either. The restaurant has discontinued their french press coffee, so that also was a disappointment. Although our food was fine when if finally arrived, the delay seemed unreasonable, and no explanation was offfered. So, overall, a "meh" experience. read more

Located in the historical part of town in an old building with lots of character. Very casual and relaxed atmosphere. They have a vast wine selection, craft beer, and also a full craft cocktail menu. They also provide a full menu of food. I had the bruschetta which was excellent. They do offer wine flights. Which I did have. Offering red wines, white wines, sweeter wines. The service was awful, the server kept forgetting drink orders, she forgot side items that came with the meal, and when asked about them, she would say she was getting it, then return to the table without the item. They gave us a sample of two and we liked both. We ordered the Breaking Bread for an appetizer. It's a French Baguette stuffed with mozzarella and herb butter. It comes with three dipping sauces, cheese, olive oil and a mustard. It's huge! Definitely for all at the table. It'd be too much for two if you were also ordering an entree. But it heated up well the next day. Current price is $10.99. We ordered the Stuffed Salmon for $21.99 to split. It was served on creamy risotto and had shrimp on top. It was a very large piece of salmon. I'm glad we split the meal. The risotto was great. However, it was a bit rich for my taste and I'm not sure I could have eaten it all by myself. Our service was good. Food was hot and prompt. Our server was not knowledgeable about the menu though. We asked her about 2 or 3 dishes and she said she'd never tried them. Finally she admitted she'd never eaten there! We thought that was funny. She did say the Stuffed Salmon was one of the most popular dishes and if she did eat there, that'd be what she'd try. Two words = Breaking Bread. It's an appetizer, and it's amazing. It's an entire loaf of Italian bread stuffed and covered in cheese and herbs, and then it comes with three dipping sauces. It's worth the trip here just for this! The Monte Cristo was also a *chef's kiss.* That sauce made it - I can't remember what it was (a jam of sorts). It was a fork-and-knife kind of sandwich and not something you'd want to count the calories on and oh-so-good! The Cordial Cork has an old-world, vintage, romantic, dark, and mysterious feel. Wow, I was really impressed by this place! At first I was a little confused as to why a place like this doesn't have a website (only a Facebook page) where anyone could easily access the menu, call the restaurant etc. I was also confused as to why there was a separate cake shop company within the restaurant. Once I found the menu on Facebook I was intrigued by the vast amount of wine/beer/cocktail options, sorted by region, available compared to the very few entree choices. But I'm not too picky so I easily found a delicious entree and cocktail option. I tried the Chicken Pasta Caprese and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend. I also had a Cherry Cordial Coffee cocktail. It was very different and I'm glad I tried it, but I think I would try something else next time. The Cordial Cork also works with Lisa Cakes and had several cheesecakes and other desserts on display in a case. I was too full to try a slice but they all looked good! I didn't think a winery/tap room/bar/restaurant would work out with a separate cake shop as well, but it does. What a unique market. I really enjoyed the overall vibe and atmosphere inside. The service was also fantastic. This is a perfect location for a romantic date or small gathering/party. There were many wine bottles on display along with cakes on the left wall. One of Richmond's gems. Actually, I would even say it is the best bar in Richmond. Extreme hustle from the staff is a coming sight. The menu has a few delights that you must try. The max and cheese is pretty legendary, and for good reason. Armadillo eggs are great, but if they are busy, they might arrive lukewarm. Really great wine selection and a few good spirits as well. We went for the Sunday brunch. Yes, they are doing that again in spite of the hours above saying they are closed Sunday. The drinks were quite good, but service and food, not so much. Service was very slow, even though the place was mostly empty when we arrived. I had the Salmon Benedick which was way too salty, like really over the top. Also, the biscuit waffle is described as crispy on the outside and soft inside. At least after having all the other stuff piled on top of it, it was neither. I came here today with my husband to celebrate my birthday. We weren't aware they had brunch (we had only been there during dinner hours) so we decided to give it a try. I had the E Street Wrap which consisted of eggs, bacon, spinach, a nice spicy cherry sauce and guac (wrap was tomato basil). It was a fantastic choice, especially for someone who is trying to eat healthy. What was not so healthy was obviously the tiramisu I ordered but I LOVED it as usual. It was the main reason I came, honestly! And of course I got the Electra red wine which is fantastic for sweet wine fans. Nick was our server and he was such an attentive guy. He was very friendly and conversational, which is something that is definitely lacking in servers these days. He made sure to give food recommendations and check in on us. This is my first and last experience at the Cordial Cork and I was not impressed. The wine and beer choices were on point, as well as the servers, but there were many issues with the service. The waitress we had was attentive, but after you wait for 25 minutes for a flight of wine, it makes you rethink your choice of drinks and locations. Also waiting 45 minutes for 4 cold entrees and 1 small cold appetizer, in a restaurant that is not by any means busy, is uncalled for. I am frankly disappointed in this experience and the lack of timeliness with the kitchen staff. My suggestion for the amount you pay for, what they consider a good meal with good drinks, you can go to another location for a more belly warming experience.
