We forgot to post but.... My first time here and what a Beautiful place all around. We had lunch in their Lovely restaurant with lots of options to choose from. The Cornell Club is warm and cozy. I enjoyed my stay. The lobby is charming, and the front desk staff is very helpful and friendly. I was shown to my room by a staff member. The room was good-sized for New York. I then went downstairs for dinner at the bar. While the food was lackluster, the drinks were great; the bartender was great; and the other patrons were terrific. Wound up being a fun, memorable evening! I didn't sleep great, but I think it was because my room had twin beds. (I had assumed that the twin beds would be XL; that was not the case.) On the plus side, there were two chocolates left next to my bed. : ) The next morning, I slept instead of going down to breakfast -- the bar patrons told me it's really good. (When I exited the room, the housekeeper was at my door...clearly waiting to clean it. That felt a bit awkward...) I would absolutely stay at the Cornell Club again! read more

This review is purely for the Cayuga Room restaurant. Servers were extremely attentive and knew when to come over to fill up our wine glasses, water, or get our orders. This intimate space is the perfect escape from the busyness of the city. There was complimentary bread - the baguette was a little stale for me. For dinner, I got the braised short rib lasagna and the earl grey creme brulee. The lasagna largely consisted of the mushrooms, so that was the overwhelming flavor rather than the short rib, which I did not really get in the portion. So, that dish left something to be desired. However, dessert really saved the day. The taste of tea shone through and paired very well with the pistachio cookie and raspberries and was a great end to the meal. read more

It's a charming small hotel/restaurant that offers a good rate to any alumni from various schools. I stopped by with my mother and grand mother to get dinner. The meal felt like I was eating at okenshields. Food quality was fine, but felt like it came out of a dining hall. The alcohol selection was quite large (don't remember that at trillium!), but the food felt like it was prepared by a hotelie (more business major than fine dining). Overall satisfactory ambiance, but could go further to elevate the prestige of Cornell and the Cornell club. Go big red! read more

Pretentious despite lacking class, and likely racist. The receptionist, David, raised his voice at me just because I came in without an appointment (I'm an alumni who moved to nyc recently and thought this could be a good potential gym) and kept asking me what I was thinking "coming in at this hour" and not in a joking tone, very aggressively and btw, it was 7pm not like 2am. All I wanted was to know what hours the gym was and I was really taken aback by my experience. In hundreds and hundreds of yelp reviews I've never accused any business of racism and it's not an allegation I make lightly but there is really no other explanation I can think of for what I experienced. As a fellow Cornellian, I love coming here for events. The lobby is always super festive with whatever holiday is around the corner. I love how they decorated for Christmas this year. The lobby felt very cozy with the Christmas tree and lounge chairs. In addition, there is always a drink and refresh station in the lobby. The attendants here are incredibly nice. One saw I was having trouble putting on my jacket while waiting for the elevator and went out of his way to help me with it. With the rooms on each floor named after iconic Cornell places, it is very nostalgic to come here and visit. The food here is very delicious too and high quality. They serve Ithaca beers and Ithaca finger lakes wine. read more

So the GF is a member and she insists on rubbing in the superior clubhouse of an inferior school to my alma matter. While I haven't before stayed at the Cornell Club (CC)--and for that matter have no intentions of ever doing so--I have been invited to eat at the restaurant. This review therefore is less about the club and more about the second floor dining. Twice a week the CC offers lobster night and steak night, respectively. I've been to both. Lobster night is far more appealing to me. May is special to the CC because every night is robsta night providing that you call a day or so ahead and order your two pound lobsters. Such was the case on my last visit earlier in the week. Lobsters can be prepared either steamed or broiled (I typically prefer broiled) and they provide with a choice of sides that while I don't remember all the offerings I ordered mixed veggies. The GF ordered corn chowder for starters while I went for the greens (pure role reversal). An exceptionally delicious blueberry cobbler and a small tray of three small scoops of ice creams was the bookend of our meal. Did I mention that lobster night is $45 prix fixe? A deal and then some because they serve two pounder sea lice! But I digress... Any readers of my FB dribble know that I don't do the price/value to quality trade-off preferring instead quarity. But it is a special treat when one receives both as in the case with lobster night at CC. The staff is consistently excellent and if you visit a few times--as we did--they come to remember each guest's nuances. For example, I ordered the Cakebread 2010 cab (I drink full-bodied reds with everything) from the menu only to be told that it would be a 2012 and the price would remain the same. They also have a Faust cab selection which is very yummy but it was a Cakebread night for me. The lobby is excellent and well appointed, perfect for catching-up with the day's New York Times, which is all I could find laying around. Off of the lobby is the cramped but funtional business center that claustrophobics shouldn't enter. To the rear of the lobby and behind the business center is a gargantuan bar providing an insight on to what Cornelians deem more important. read more

Nothing like the Cornell Club on a Saturday afternoon. I've only been there once before and am not a dues-paying member, but some of my friends are. We were the only ones in the lobby other than one or two sets of parents staying there for the tolerable lodging rates. Just three dudes trading Ithaca nostalgia, sipping Ithaca red ales, and eating very solid bar/grill food at the Big Red Tap & Grill. Which is really what this review is for. I had a very tasty seared tuna burger medium rare--yum, which came with waffle fries. The boyz enjoyed their burger and buffalo chicken sandwich, respectively. Right outside Grand Central is one of the better university clubs in Manhattan. I have always loved the multiple meeting spaces and their ability to have multiple programs. The ability to have several dining options including a sports bar option is a nice touch for the Big Red and associate university alums! read more

I've stayed here twice during the last two years and for a reciprocal member, it's the best deal in town. I opted for a small studio room with a fold-out bed but who sits in a hotel room in NYC? It's much cheaper than any acceptable hotel and there's a free breakfast buffet too. Among the clubs it has the most relaxed dress code, so unless you plan to sit in the lobby in cut-offs and flip-flops, you won't have a problem. Staff is courteous and helpful. read more

The Big Red Tap & Grill is a private dining room for casual lunches - no cash is accepted and you must be invited by a member of the club. For a more formal dining setting, the Cayuga Room upstairs offers a more upscale atmosphere with affordable prix fixe menus and also special Lobster Night and Steak Night menus. Tea and coffee service is available in the lobby space. Worth noting that while this place does accept credit cards, this is a private club and must be a graduate of Cornell University or any of the affiliate schools (or family member or business affiliate of a member) to join. To stay here or use the facility you need a member at least. The food is amazing and it's not very expensive. They have deals during dinner hours with a great prefix menu. Steak and Lobster night also offer a prefix menu of decent value. I like the space, the detail took a lot of thought. The staff is very friendly, the bartenders make a hell of a cup of coffee. The gym staff is something else. They're hilarious. The space is small but it's never really crowded and for a shy guy like me I won't have to worry about lifting weights in front of people who look like they don't need to be in there. The cost to join isn't much and it's a great place to network. Plus the reciprocity with other clubs comes in handy if you're a traveler. read more

It's good to have friends; one of mine is a member so I've been here to see him. Definitely a very nice lobby area & they have lots of good business services along with a wonderful ladies room that is clean as well as not too tiny. They are open pretty late, you can get free coffee/tea & the staff is extremely attentive & friendly, sometimes to the point of hovering a little too much. However, I do get a sense that they don't tolerate BS or nonsense in member relations or general staff behavior. It is beautiful and elegant and simultaneously friendlier and less stuffy than some of the other Ivy clubs in the area. I haven't been there a lot, but they still remember my name and my favorite menu items (fyi, chicken quesadilla and salmon). The free bread is really good too, particularly the soda bread and pretzel bread. The Cornell Club tends to have more events and more interesting events. The Cornell Club events appeal to many generations, particularly for individuals interested in Wall Street and technology (two of my big interests). One of the other clubs (which shall remain nameless...) focuses on very specific events with limited appeal (my favorite was an exploration of 17th century Dutch furniture...). read more

I love this club. The prices are reasonable for the location (although you have to pay to be a member, of course) and the service is great. The ambiance is classic and cozy, but not pretentious like one might expect. The service is great (as the daughter of a Hotelie, I'd expect nothing less). I spent my youth coming here over Christmas, and I have only fond memories - a giant Christmas tree and gingerbread house in the lobby, friendly staff, and so on. I attended a catered lunch event here and the food service was solid, although nothing exemplary. Appetizers were very tasty and presented nicely by polite wait staff, but the caesar salads were doused in dressing and came with soggy croutons that didn't help much. The chicken entree was pretty good, with very nice vegetables (green beans and perfectly cooked carrots - not too soft, not too crunchy!), and the layered chocolate mousse dessert was excellent. In my opinion, any club with TRUE class will exude a "you're in" instead of a "who are you" type of feel when you enter the doors. The decor will have a gentile, blue blooded feel, but not be so heavy handed in its glorifcation of an aesthetic that was in vogue back when women didn't have suffrage or the right to education and people of color were still regarded as different species of humans by a white elite that enjoyed killing animals for sport and sitting around playing poker and discussing pre-Depression stocks with cigars in their glistening mouths lubricated by old money. The staff will be attentive, but somehow manage to avoid shuffling merely by exuding quiet dignity and self worth; the mark also of a clientele and management that treats them with respect. Not that I'm an expert. Nevertheless, the Cornell Club pleased me as just such a place. I was fortunate enough to be treated here by an elder who has been a member for a while. He insisted that the downstairs space was more homey, and so we settled in at a table, where the staff - who knew him by name - came to our assistance. Supposedly, the Club sources a lot of its food from its own farms upstate, and employs culinary specialists studying at Cornell's renowned hospitality program. All signs would point to the truth of this, because the foridable menu spanned the world's cuisines, and arrived in fresh, heaping portions. For the first time in perhaps all my time in NYC, I was actually enticed by a salad that involve seafood and jicama, and paired it with a smoked tomato soup that sure enough tasted like campfire smoke and tomatoes and some sharp, stately cheese. Wish I had better recall of the menu, but why tease? If you get a chance to accompany a member here, gladly go. I strongly suspect that a particularly cold and bitter winter's day would be the ideal date to set. read more

I recently had my 50th birthday party at The Cornell Club. There were 32 people in the group. We held it in the Library and due to my poor planning i had a week to pull it together. My wife and I worked with Tim and Danielle and planned it in a day or two. Not only did they make it so very easy, they made it a BLAST! it was a great party. Great location, Great Service, Great Food, Great Drink and a totally great time. It offered us everything we, wanted and other things we had not thought of. The cheese and dried fruit assortment - at the beginning of the party was so elegant, delicious and just so well done that is started off a journey of great food, served well by people who each wore a smile. The passed hors d'oeuvres were delicious and the meal was just as good. I would highly recommend any member to throw a party at the club. You will feel at home and all of your guests will have a super time! My party will be one that the group will remember for a while. read more

The Cornell Club feels like home and I owe it to two words: Craig Lasnier. I was initially frustrated with some of the space and how noisy (or unavailable) it would become. But Craig and his staff have been attentive to this and confronting the culprits about their blatant FaceTime meetings in the library. He takes the time out to talk to everyone and I've gotten to know him and the staff on a more personal level. I love that this place is not as "stuffy" as the other clubs too yet, maintains that classy and familial feel. Oh and the food. The FOOD! I love their lobster nights. Two pounds of succulent Sebastian with a glass of Cakebread wine, mmmm! The Big Red Grill downstairs has some good sandwiches too. Keep up the good work, folks! Food at Cayuga Room on second floor is what you would expect from Cornell which prides itself on the Hotel School. Lobster night with 2 pound lobster is superb and a bargain. Always impresses my friends and guests. Haven't tried steak night yet but will soon. Bar and more casual restaurant on ground floor is friendly and good. Good place to meet friends. Morning breakfast is well prepared, plentiful and way beyond what you might expect of a breakfast buffet. OK food and rooms, but as a member there are not enough places to work. The library is often used for events so it is unavailable to members who need a place to work; and when it is available there are never enough tables and chairs set up to comfortably work. They need to address this problem. The business center is ok but too small and the area next to the dining room is not suitable for computer work. A big con unless they address this issue for members. read more

I just had my first visit yesterday. Wonderful location and a good choice to conduct a business event. Granted it was a Wednesday lunch meeting, but the food of sandwiches, burgers, salads and desserts were very average. The staff was quite cordial and somewhat helpful for my pre-meeting preparations, but by no means did anyone go out of his or her way to make me feel comfortable or as if it would be worth my while to recommend or join their club. I prefer other locations such as The Yale Club as you can get average food and service anywhere. Would have preferred to give 2 and 1/2 stars but that doesn't seem to be an option for this very average spot. read more

The Cornell Club is lovely and very convenient! My father in law is a member and he gifted us a 3 night stay for my husband's 40th bday. We took along our 4yo son, who seemed to be the only child staying in the club at that time. We live in Maine (though the husband used to live in NYC), we're not very fancy people ("smart casual" dress code requirements allow for jeans and slacks, but no t-shirts, and we could handle that) and had a small kid in tow, and the entire staff couldn't have been nicer. They let us extend our check out time and were super friendly to our son. The location can't be beat for traveling all around the city, and the breakfast buffet included in overnight room rate was very tasty and so convenient. The only thing we could have used was a small fridge in the room because my kid likes to drink milk at all hours - but the ice bucket sufficed very well. Definitely recommend! read more
