I almost hate writing this review because, for purely selfish reasons, my fiancé and I would prefer to keep The Corner our little secret. We live right around the corner, and we'd like to continue getting a seat. But they deserve the 5 stars. This has become our absolute favorite restaurant in Orange County. We've eaten our way through a ridiculous amount of the menu (and cocktail list), and we have literally never had a bad meal here. They simply do not miss. Tonight my fiancé had the Peri Peri Chicken. He's South African, so he knows his peri peri, and his verdict: spot on. Perfectly cooked, not overdone and ridiculously flavorful. He actually prefers it to Mozambique in Laguna, which is saying something. I had the Short Rib Tacos, which were incredible as always. Their short rib dinner with mashed potatoes and wine reduction is another favorite, and I honestly can't think of an appetizer we haven't loved. The cocktails are excellent, the staff and service are fantastic, and the prices are completely reasonable for the quality. Most importantly, they are consistently good. Every. Single. Time. So yes, go. They absolutely deserve the business. Just maybe don't tell your friends. We've already said too much. read more

Keep returning here and it's in one of my top 3 places. My top other two are Azuma for their beef in Gardena and the other is ... hm. There are a couple not a tangent worth going into though. Check my collection with "best" in it if you want. Always superb food (a notch above average, makes sense since it's chef owned, saw that recently didn't know - makes sense they take risks and execute well!), good service, and it's close to Firing Line! Updated with pictures I've had overtime, everything is good. Love the booth seating, wouldn't say there's echo but sound does slightly carry in dining room which is actually good for conversation if there's multiple tables since some ambient noise is good. read more

I've been gatekeeping this spot for way too long! Truly the best food and cocktails in HB - hands down. Chris, the chef/owner, changes the menu seasonally and there are always some tasty options. But I have a hard time ordering something new because the 48 hour fries (so light and airy with homemade ketchup and special sauce on the side!), Short Rib tacos, and Tuna Tartar Tostadas always call our name. The cocktails are delicious and perfectly balanced, including the Tangerine Gimlet, which is dangerous because it goes down way too easily. The lore is that Chris grows the tangerines so not only is this restaurant family owned, it sources locally too. Most of the staff have been there for years and they are all very well versed in the menu and are super friendly. The Corner is in a very unassuming little building and you'd never believe that this once Chinese restaurant was putting out some of the best food and drinks you've ever had, but trust me. My wife I really enjoyed this gastropub. Looks like a dive bar from the outside yet it's a classy restaurant on the inside. Very creative menu with interesting selection. Cocktails were really good and strong. We tried a few and I needed some coffee after! Coffee is done via chemex pour over which I haven't seen at a restaurant. I love duck and was surprised they had duck confit! Duck was fork tender and cooked to perfection. It was served on lentils which were good but had a few uncooked lentils which was off putting. My wife had the steak with twice baked potato. She really liked it. We failed our willpower and ordered dessert. We tried the butter cake and butterscotch Bandino. Both delicious but the cake was kind of dry which I read in other reviews. Still worth getting and we devoured both. Service was excellent! Update: came back tonight. Cod with "48 hour" fries is effing amazing. Updated from 4 to 5 stars. Espresso martini is great too. I do not recommend the chocolate dessert. read more

Came here last night with friends and ordered the $24 Korean BBQ Chicken, and have had stomach cramps and diarrhea overnight and this morning. First of all, the meal was not appealing visually, but I hoped the flavors would be good. The sauce was the only good thing. The avocado was browning and mushy, and the chicken was greasy. I didn't complain as I was out with friends who chose this place. I will never return. Even if it was free. Nothing on the menu sounded good to me, and this meal was a zero. read more

Their short rib entree is one of my favorite meals of all time, especially when paired with one of their tasty dirty martinis (with blue-cheese stuffed olives, of course). Everything I have tried has been excellent, from the bacon wrapped dates to the gnocchi, any seafood dish and the ahi tacos, it has always been delicious and often new flavors I haven't experienced before. The vibe is cozy, and the service is exceptional, we are always made welcome even when it's been a while since we've been there (we don't eat out very often). First their cocktails are amazing and delicious!Balanced and well made. The bartenders know how to make a balanced and delicious cocktail. I got the Paperplane! Best one I've had yet. Food was superb. We started with the Tuna Tartar with Cilantro on top. A very delicious appetizer to start with. Loved every bite. One of the best Tuna Tar Tar apps I've ever had. We then got the Shrimp salad. I know I sounds like a broken record but this salad was also super on point. Amazing tasting dressing. Fresh crispy lettuce. I then got the Halibut. Superb! Hot, fresh and great sauce that came along with it. Very filling and healthy. GF got the steak. She doesn't eat steak very often. BUT WHEN SHE DOES she always gets it from here. Interesting spot. Some dishes were great, some were lackluster. Fries - 4/5 Crispy on the outside, fluffy potato on the inside. Sauce was very basic. I'd love to see a Dutch style mayo instead of the aioli they provided. Bacon Wrapped Dates - 4/5 Lots of bacon and more savory than sweet. I prefer my bacon crispier, but would order this again. Tomato Avocado Salad - 2.5/5 Too much cilantro!!! Balance was off. Normally I devour these kinds of salads but this was a miss. Short Ribs - 5/5 Solid rendition of the dish. Hearty and flavorful. Lemon Butter Chicken - 3/5 Boring and bland. This dish needs better accoutrements. Brown Butter Cake - 2/5 Not what I was expecting at all. The "butter cake" reminded me of an old fashioned donut. Had dinner here to celebrate a Gender Reveal party. Ordered adult beverages, appetizers and entrees. Steak, Chicken, Halibut are the main entrees being presented on the main dinner menu. Received our meals in a timely manner. 5 stars for the customer service received. Our server had consistent communication with us, always checking up on us while we dined. The drinks were delicious but the main entrees were a bit salty and the portions size did not justify the prices being sold for. I was confused if this is supposed to be a fine dining place or a casual dining place due to dinner prices on the menu. Overall The ambiance is great. I would come here again. We had fun. Tangerine Gimlet is magical. Really cold Hayabasa. But their block steak and shortrib has kept us coming back like clockwork at least monthly. And their waiters are top-notch... they get to know you with real conversation when you're new and then it's a guaranteed A-Plus experience. This place was amazing!! I never finish my food and I finished my entire plate. After a hard week, all I needed was a good lasagna plate and I found it. The lasagna was freshly made and the spinach stuffing just warmed my heart and belly. We also ordered the halibut which was amazing as well as the NY. Short ribs tacos are so tasty! The 48 hours fries are also a good dish to share! Plain French fries that are just good and perfectly air fry. Had a chance to try the steak tonight and that was perfectly cooked and well flavored! Delicious! The old fashion is good- if it's your drink come try it here! They do make a few other old fashion with a twist and those are fun too. The decore is so cute! There is a bar side with TV and bar stools and there is a sit down side for date nights and family. As usual the 48hr Fries are phenomenal. Crispy and airy. Properly salted. Excellent dips. The Tuna Tartare Tostadas were very flavorful and even had a hint of lime. They were served on fresh crispy tortillas. The Hand Cut Saffron Linguini was good but it could have been cooked a bit longer as it was rather al dente. It also could have benefited from a splash of cream which would have complimented the crab. The Brown Sugar Buttercake was amazing and definitely in my Top 3, which includes Mastro's and Eddie V's. It comes with an incredible Maple Bourbon Glaze. Nice drink menu and full bar. No corkage fee if you'd like to bring your own bottle of wine. read more

We stopped in for a quick pre-dinner drink and were warmly greeted by Nick, the bartender, whose hospitality set the tone for a great experience. He mixed us two perfectly balanced French 75s. The flavor was crisp, refreshing, and clearly made with care. The intimate space, with its artsy decor and moody lighting, had an unexpectedly welcoming atmosphere, thanks to both the friendly staff and laid-back clientele. Although we have lived less than a mile from The Corner, we had never been until a neighbor recommended it. The atmosphere was lovely. And we were pleasantly surprised with the diverse choices on the menu. Some of our favorites were the short rib tacos, bacon wrapped dates, and mini chorizo tacos. The 48 hour fries are a specialty of the house and literally take 48 hours to prepare before the final cook. Crispy, crunchy, light and flavorful. The best I've ever had. We tried two desserts: the brown sugar butter cake which is made to order and served with vanilla ice cream was delicious, the second was the butterscotch pecan budino, a pudding with fresh cream and homemade butterscotch. I promise you, you have never tasted butterscotch like this before. The happy hour menu includes lots of excellent choices. Chef and owner, Chris, popped out to say hello. This place has been around for awhile and it seems to get better and better each time I go. We had the Bacon Wrapped Dates, Charcuterie Plate, Everything Tacos, 48hr Fries, and the Twice Baked Potato and everything was delicious. If I had to pick one thing to get every time it would be a tie between the Bacon Wrapped Dates and the Everything Tacos (short rib and potato taco combined). Service was awesome and our waiter was very attentive to our need but no overbearing. Ambiance is very laid back and mellow. We will definitely be back. Big bummer. Came here tonight thinking it wouldn't be too crowded with the holiday. It took over 10 minutes for anyone to even notice us to tell us there was a 45 min wait. Totally get things happen and we will try again with a reservation, but there should be a better system to let people know if you're not going to have someone at the host stand. This place has been here for a minute or two. Sadly, it's my first time eating here, even though I've lived in HB forever. We do a wine dinner once a month, and a friend of mine picked this restaurant . It's a small little place but has a great dinner crowd, and the bar was packed. We started off lots of appetizers including deviled eggs, bacon wrapped dates with blue cheese, shishito peppers and 48 hour fries. Everything was delicious. I got the ahi with bok choy. I'm so confused by this place! Is it a bar or a quality restaurant??? I just can't tell. The Corner is seemingly the love child of a seedy neighborhood bar and an upscale, trendy restaurant. It just doesn't make sense. I've heard for a while now that this place was really good so we came for a late lunch. It was a Friday afternoon at around 2:30pm. The restaurant was empty. The parking lot was empty. I guess this place really is more bar and less food. Who knows. The place is kinda run down and a little grimy. There was empty table near by that was never bussed the entire time we were there. The restroom wasn't that clean. But... But... the food is legit gourmet, farm to table cuisine. The red wine braised short rib was amazing. The sauce is the key! The beef was tender and flakey and it was the sort of meal I'd expect at a 5 star restaurant. The tuna tartar was fresh and the sauce was delicious. Here are my ratings for The Corner! Short Rib: 5 stars Tuna Tartar: 4 stars French Fries: 3 stars Service: 4 (our server was great but we were the only ones there and our food took forever) Decor: 2 stars I don't think I'll come back because dining is an entire experience. I have visited The Corner frequently over the past decade and it continues to impress where other restaurants have failed as they age. Food quality has remained high, service remains stellar and the drinks are as good as ever. Perhaps this is a function of the owner not only remaining the constant, but also being involved behind the bar, in the kitchen, etc. Food wise, the menu is a mix of rotating seasonal items and several mainstays which have remained on the menu over the years. It's a great mix of something new when I'm feeling adventurous and the comfort of the items I know when I just want a good meal. Everything is made from scratch and with love. A couple favorites are the short rib tacos, ahi tostadas, burger and bacon wrapped dates. Drinks are great and super crafty - all the mixers are made in-house from what I can tell and the selection of booze is second to none. Prices have increased slightly, but still full below what I'd be paying elsewhere. Good beers on rotation as well. My favorites are the Old Fashioned and Clockwork Orange. Atmosphere is a mix between a trendy craft bar on one side and an intimate dining experience on the other. Can get a bit noisy at times, but I don't mind. There are a lot of places that talk about food quality and making things from scratch, but over time they will give way to profit margin and market pressure. From what I can tell, the owner at The Corner has stayed true to his mission from day one and continues to pump out scratch made good and craft cocktails at a reasonable price. read more

This is my cozy, neighborhood, "watering hole." They also have a fabulous menu of tasty dishes to eat with your cocktails. The short rib tacos are delish. The twice cooked fries are as good as you can find anywhere else. Their butter cake desert is so scrumptious that I have dreamed about it. My favorite cocktail is the Mandarin Gimlet. I have never had another that can equal this legendary libation. The service is just wonderful and friendly. We celebrated New Years Eve here last year and they had wonderful balloon decorations and a Prix Fixe menu that was out of this world.
