My tables orders first was the bad a chicken sandwich topped with a delicious cheese crisp , next the build-your-own burger with added onion rings, and that burger was at least 4 inches tall! Supposed to come with chicken, but I passed on the chicken, wish more places had discounts when you say no meat, but whatev. Hence, the knockdown on a star. Our Red Hat Chapter revisited The Corner Pocket as we had promised to do last year when we first went. The food is all fresh, homemade and everyone enjoyed their meals. I have the BLT because of my onion allergy, but it was fine (I had it my first visit, too). I tried their macaroni and cheese. It's nicely cheesy, but not creamy (just in case you're expecting that). The staff is very friendly and checked back with us regarding more to drink. Because it's a pool hall, one might not expect it to be warm and welcoming but it is! I've visited this place for years. The old owners are amazing people. They new owners have gone with a different feel/style, and it's more of a sports bar now, which is great. The food is good, staff are all very nice and the remodel looks so good. Definitely get the banana pudding! I love the little town of Green Cove, but if you visit, you have to stop by here! Had heard positive things about this place, so wanted to check it out. Cheri, the owner, warmly greeted us. When she found out it was our first time, she eagerly shared menu favorites and details. She is very committed to making her place work and to making sure excellent customer service is provided to all. I ordered the four sides plate. I chose: green beans (delicious), mashed potatoes with cream cheese (tasty) with white gravy (arrived ice cold right out of the refrigerator), macaroni and cheese (tasted decent, but could have used more cheese), and 3 one-half deviled eggs (tasty). It took awhile to get hot gravy and by then the potatoes were almost gone. I also had cornbread that was good. It was covered in butter and I like putting butter on the inside. My friends each got the chicken and dumplings. Both dishes had to be sent back to the kitchen to be heated, as they arrived luke warm. One liked the heated dish and the other one didn't. There are lots of delicious sounding dishes on the menu. I may give the restaurant another try. What also may motivate me to try again is the commitment of the owner to customer service. You stay long enough you'll want a cigarette. Make sure you have febreeze in the car. I crashed a boys night out - since I was really that bored- and I didn't complete hate it. Place is super easy to find at night because everything else is close and this place is lit up like a Christmas tree. Park on the street, take your last breath of fresh air and walk in. Place is freezing and the tables are well maintained. Nothing serious with the music - expect country - thankful this was a plus for me. But the smoke was serious (for me). After a few minutes you get use to it. It's not until you walk back outside that you notice how badly you smell like an ash tray. No scary moment here. Crowd is young and old and most people seem to know the owner. Plenty of space to do a little two set to the right music. Never thought about trying the food but it looked good. I was introduced to the Corner Pocket when I first started dating my husband. When he said he played in a pool league, I was hesitant at first, because in my head, I saw a dingy, dark, smoky bar with pool tables. This place is nothing like that... It's very large and open with smoke fans to inhale the smoke before you do...very bright with many, many lights, a jukebox that's pretty much always blaring country music, and a pretty good selection of fresh-cooked food (no microwave meals) on the menu. They have soft drinks, beer, and wine, but no liquor, which I consider a good thing. The majority of people here are family people (but no kids) who are just there to have a good time. The owners, Homer and Barbara, are friendly and accomodating...although Homer tries to give people a hard time on occasion, it's all in a good way. To sum up, I went from dreading this place to being there two nights a week, every week playing in a league, and still going up there some nights I don't have to....this is a great place to go and hang out! read more
