Stopped in here Saturday night on our way home from a concert at The St. Augustine Amphitheater for a very late night dinner. We got there 30 minutes before closing and before ordering drinks, I asked the bartender if the kitchen was still open and taking orders. She let us know that it was and we were good to place an order and that it was no problem. Her name was Jordan and she was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the Pretzel Bites with Beer Cheese and we both got an order of wings. I got Garlic Ranch Mild, but I think I could have went up to medium and wish I had. My husband ordered Spicy Ranch Hot. We both very much enjoyed our food. Once we finished our food and drinks we paid the bill and left out, just moments after their official closing time. There was a hockey game on that went into overtime, but they weren't rushing anyone out or forcing people to close tabs which I thought was really cool of them. We're not sports people so there was no reason for us to stay longer. Just thought it was really nice of them to let others finish watching the game. Like I said, Jordan was great. Fast and friendly. Hit up Chubbys for draft night and it was so fun! They had a bunch of things set up for the Jaguars and even Lageman was there!! Food was GREAT! Brought some friends here to support my friend Cheryle who was singing in the band. The staff was very welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. We all enjoyed some appetizers and our meals. The wings were great, so crispy yet juicy. The fries corn bites were tastey and some had fish, burgers and a Philly cheese steak sammie. All were very good. A manager came out to check on us a couple times and ensured we had exactly what we needed. Our server was so sweet and efficient. The music was amazing, and we enjoyed supporting the live music! Biggest issue is service. It has degraded over the past few months. Food comes out randomly. Tonight, for instance, we ordered mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. My GF ordered an order of wings, and I ordered the grilled chicken salad. When the appetizer came out my GFs fries came out too, they were cold. We had to ask for plates and silverware. My salad came out next, no problem with that, Then my GFs wings finally came out, and then a few minutes later, her hot fries. When people go out to eat together they should get theur meals at the same time, and entrees and sides should come out together. This is the secind time our orders came out staggered like this. Chubby's has always been my go-to place for wings in PVB. Recently, though, they've dropped the quality. Over seasoned, under seasoned, and lately, always undercooked and soggy. They're much better if you specify you want them crispy in your order. Not sure what's changed. Service is always great and it's an excellent sports bar, if that's what you're looking for. Still giving them a pretty high rating because of service and other food is still good bar food. Just not sure about the wings anymore. read more

We went here for lunch on a Saturday and must say that everything was great! I have had their wings before and really liked them but this was the first time at the Ponte Vedra location. We had the Southwestern egg rolls and really liked them with the sweet and sour sauce. The egg rolls were really flaky and fresh which was a pleasant surprise. I had medium buffalo wings and my wife had wings Johnnie style. The sauce is good and she loved the Johnnie style. They have outdoor seating with televisions which is where we sat. Went on a Saturday at noon. The waitress was super nice and attentive. The fried pickles were amazing- they slice them super slim so that they don't taste mushy and fry well. My chicken sandwich and boneless wings were great. Prices were reasonable and it looks like there are good specials throughout the week. Went there for their first Survey Says game night. I really enjoyed the game, but the food was sub par. Ordered 6 Caribbean Jerk wings (Pointed right at the "Pick your chubby sauce" portion of the menu). I asked for ranch dressing. They came out dry (NO Sauce), dry spices/flavoring was just thrown on top of the wings. That means none of the flavoring stayed on top of the wings. I had to flag someone down to get my ranch (they gave me blue cheese). Used the ranch to dip into the dry spices to tase anything, but it was not very good. Ordered their garlic cheesy bread (Asked for EXTRA garlic) with their marinara. It was barely garlic flavored. Clearly they didn't apply extra garlic. I ordered a piece of chocolate cake. Now I'm a foodie. I know my cakes. I also know most restaurants either buy from a bakery in bulk, or from a wholesaler. Then they either freeze them & thaw them as needed, or get them delivered a few days a week. I loved the thick ganache like frosting with the chocolate chips. The cake itself was not moist, & not super chocolaty. If they order from a small mom & pop local bakery, it would be a simple enough fix. If they use a little simple syrup on the cake portion would add moisture, & a little bit of coffee concentrate added to the batter would make it taste more chocolate. The crumble was a bit dense. I feel like you can easily tell the cake was thawed out 2 days prior. Because of the game I MIGHT come back, but I would try a burger, or hot dog instead. The ambiance was as expected. This is basically a sports bar that sells good wings. This is the second time I have ordered takeout wings on my way home from the beach. Both times I sat at the bar and ordered 2 or 3 different types of wings to go. On both occasions there were several other patrons having lunch and a drink at the bar. The place is spacious with about 20 bar seats, numerous indoor tables, and 4 outdoor tables. There are several tvs with sporting events on them, and country music playing. Wings arrive, hardly any sauce on them. You shouldn't be able to eat Buffalo wings and not use a pile of napkins. These only took one napkin. By time we were done wings were totally dry. We've been to the old Bogey Grill a few times over the years and were disappointed when they closed down due to covid. They always provided a friendly fun environment to watch the game. We saw Mr. Chubby's took over the same spot and one day when I was craving wings I decided to give it a try. Overall results were pretty mixed. The interior got a bit of an upgrade. Along with a new coat of paint the new restaurant has more TVs. Plenty to see whatever game you're interested in from any angle. Not particularly exciting but not offensive either. Waitstaff was pretty standard. Did their job but didn't suggest anything when two of the items we tried to order were out of stock. The food was pretty mixed as well. We ordered the sampler trio for an appetizer. My Chubby must be on a diet because the portions were pretty small for the price. All the items were frozen and then fried. The items had that molten burn your mouth but still frozen in the center quality. For entrees we got the Chubby Wings and the quesadilla. My girlfriend thought the quesadilla was just ok. I thought the wings were good. The Chubby seasoning was tasty. I was working on call so I didn't try their drinks but it looks like they have some reasonable drink specials. We won't be rushing back after our experience but will definitely look to give them a try during football season when we want to catch some games and drink some beers with good wings. read more

You ever think about Blockbuster's? You know, those ubiquitous video rental stores that used to be, well, everywhere? The excitement of walking into the store to see what the latest movie would be displayed in awesome VCR format. Well, then it seemed like suddenly the next day it was the latest movies lined up in dvd format. And then, well, and then it was gone. Because Blockbuster couldn't keep up with the changing technology of movie streaming. Suddenly there was Netflix. And Hulu. And Discovery+. Whatever that is. And the Blockbusters that seemed like they were on basically every corner were just a memory. Mr. Chubby's hearkens back to the Sports Bar era of the late 90s and early 2000s. Big screen tvs and neon beer signs. Do we need another one of these types of places or is it also time to let these places fade off into the sunset? So let's talk about the food and service. My wife and I got there at about 7:30 pm. The place wasn't that busy and the sign in front told us to seat ourselves. Which was actually a nice option because we were able to sit at a table that was socially distanced from anyone else in the restaurant. The server was friendly and patient as we asked many questions about the wings and the way they were prepared. We both ordered a club soda to drink. The waitress looked confused for a moment, and then asked, "um, you don't want anything in it?" "Nope," I answered. "Just club soda." And that's where the trouble started. Now, I'm a guy that happens to like a few bubbles in his water. Which is what club soda is. Water. With bubbles. So when the server finished taking our order and then came back after about five minutes and told us that our "drinks" should be ready soon, we both knew that we were going to have to pay for some water. With bubbles. And? Yup. $2.50 each. Served in a small glass. With a fancy stirring straw. For something that most places give you for free. In a large water glass. With free refills. Because its WATER. Really? *sigh* Ok, moving on, we each ordered a side salad. I got a regular one and she got the Caesar. Both were a decent size and tasted fine. Worth the 4 bucks for each? Well, that's a different question, but at least we knew how much they were going to be when we ordered them. As opposed to the bubbly water. Anyway, let's turn to the wings. Because its a wing place. We don't like breaded wings so we were glad that the regular way they are prepared here is without breading. I will say that the wings are large and meaty. Which is a definite plus. There is an extra item on the menu called serving the wings "slick." We asked what that meant and were told that it was adding extra sauce to the wings. We found that to be a little odd, but after seeing the wings prepared the regular way, I will say that if you do actually like sauce on the wings, then you should get them slick. And pay the extra money. Because served the regular way there was not a lot of sauce. Anywhere. Nit-picking? Perhaps. But other places don't charge extra to get wings that actually come coated in sauce. So why does Mr. Chubby's? As for the wings themselves, when the server first brought them out, she told my wife to be careful because her plate was really hot. Ok, makes sense if the plate was, you know, really hot. It wasn't. And neither were the wings. Maybe it was a diversion? Hey, don't touch the plate or the wings! Let it all cool down! Whatever. In addition to the room temperature of the wings, they had a texture as if they were fried and then allowed to sit for a while. You know, before they were faux-sauced and then stuck on the pseudo-hot plate and brought to the table to sit next to the expensive bubble-water. Maybe because of the time of day they had wings that were cooked and then sitting in a warmer tray for a while? Sadly, it just didn't seem like they were prepared for order. But I will say that the sauce (of what we could find) was tasty. At the end of the day, the wings were fine. Eleven bucks for ten wings is a decent price. Not great, but I've paid more. Overall an ok dining experience that was a little pricey for what you got. I wish I could say that we had a great experience at a new restaurant here in town, but that was unfortunately not the case. It was at best mediocre and I'm just not sure that we will be back. I'm hopeful that Mr. Chubby's steps it up a bit. Because there are still a lot of dining options out there and to me this place just doesn't seem like its going to make it. So do better Mr. Chubby! First walking in there were fish tanks on either side of you that seemed out of place and enter into a very large sports bar with TVs all around. The women/staff at the front just seemed like a bunch of friends hanging out, didn't seem to have much to do or didn't want to do anything. It wasn't very busy so I was surprised that our food took so long. My son seemed to like his pizza ok, the appetizers were frozen fried food, and our wings were a big disappointment. We ordered what the staff suggested which was the Garlic Ranch, Chubby's, and Ricky Bobby wings. Full disclosure, I frequent Mr. Chubby's two to three times a week. Usually for lunch as they have the 6 wings, side and soft drink special for $6 (this may be $7 now, I go so often I quit paying attention to price). They serve the big wings, not the small or medium size most wing places serve. I see inconsistent reviews on food and service. Those reviews are well deserved. Most times I personally am at a 4 to 5 star on food and service....but...I've had experiences of slow service, and rare occasion sub-par food (rarely happens, but does, depends on who is cooking). Their burgers are really good, and they have really good hot dogs. Beer prices are best in town. This is a sports bar and grill, and it's a sport bar and grill atmosphere and food. Service at bar is always excellent. Sitting at tables, service depends on who's working but usually very good. I get wings almost everywhere I go (Keto), and I think Mr. Chubby's has the best wings, or certainly among the best. I recommend the Mr. Chubby's style wings - unique recipe you won't find anywhere else. Get 'em dry at least once to experience their uniqueness. If wings aren't your thing, try the burgers, never had a bad burger there. read more

We spent two hours getting apps and wings. The server was clearly over worked and un-prepared to pay us much attention. Multiple parts of our order were wrong and nobody in management even bothered to check in and or help. Literally no excess sauce on the wing plate. The small amount of sauce they add was absorbed instantly so I had some dry wings. I think my biggest grip though is with paying $1 extra for flats only. It's not like Mr. Chubby's buys more flats than drums. It's 50/50, just like everytime you buy wings. However, since they allow you to pay more to get only flats, that means every other wing order is mostly drums. See the hole here? Somebody else is paying extra to get only flats, so when I get a normal order, I end up with 1 or 2 flats and the rest are all drums. It's pretty annoying. read more
