What a refreshing addition to Garrett County! We decided to stop here while in town for a wedding, and were very pleased. Great presentation and attention to detail. Very disappointed. Usually this place delivers good service and excellent food. Our server took 10 minutes to greet us and 10 minutes later to come back to take our order. The servers around us were doing much better. When she took our order it took another 35 minutes to get our food. When I asked for more ice for my ice tea, she said sure, went inside and came out with a rag to wipe off tables for people who had just left. Why couldn't she bring a cup of ice with her? So I went into the girls at the counter and asked for ice and just said I couldn't understand why we saw so many tables, it wasn't one or two, it was five or six that came in after us, ordered, had their food and some of them had even paid and left before we ever got our that came in after us ordered had their food and some of them had even paid and left and we still had not got ours. Another really friendly girl came with our food immediately. ??? When the waitress came back out she said the girls told her that I asked and she said other people had come in and got their orders in before ours?? What the heck?? That is a waitress problem not ours when she wasn't coming and waiting on us. Plus what about the four tables around us that we watched come and ORDER after we did? read more

I live in the area & have been several times. All the food I've tried was Excellent. The Staff, however, has never been particularly friendly & the wait time for food is too long. Even on the day we went & very few people were there, it took a long time to get our meals & there was no follow up from the waitress to make sure everything was ok. The indoor Metal Chairs are a Nightmare in my opinion. A cute "Look" - but I have Never been so uncomfortable sitting at a Restaurant in my Life. I know that probably seems like a weird thing to comment on ... but going out should be a Happy, Tasty, & Comfortable experience IMO. The Outdoors set up is better & I will only go back on days when the weather is comfortably enough to be seated out there. read more

The food was decent but not great. Soup and salmon cakes were not hot enough and the soup was very salty (but good flavor). The salmon cakes tasted like made with canned salmon. But not expensive so maybe I should have expected that. The arugula salad was fresh and good. The food took a long time. read more

Had a lovely breakfast here this morning, few choices, but seemingly all delicious. Had breakfast sandwich pannini on sourdough with egg, bacon, chopped veggies and avocado, and my husband had the breakfast burrito, which was more like a quesadilla. Both very tasty. The one star is for how inviting the cafe looks. It is beautiful on the inside and the hostess was welcoming. We were immediately seated. The cafe was not that busy. We looked over the menu, discussed the menu and waited and waited. Two tables were seated and immediately were served water. The table beside us was served their food and it looked delicious. This cafe surprised me greatly. The decor and atmosphere was really nice. The Penn Alps is quite lovely, rustic and matching the local landscape. The cafe is small and the menu was not extensive, but diverse. The chicken wrap was very good. The wine and craft beer selection was impressive though limited. LINDSEY was an awesome barkeep and fun to talk to. She was knowledgable and well versed on the menu selections. I loved this restaurant! I am a vegetarian, so it was nice to see a menu that considers us as well as vegans and those who can't eat gluten. I ordered the baked brie to start with, which was amazing. It comes with crackers and is baked with herbs and maple syrup. I never would have thought to put maple syrup on a baked cheese and it was delicious. It is a "sharing" item but it's really not all that big and only about 8 crackers or so. I also ordered a caesar salad and the tomato soup. The salad was great. It was almost all dark green romaine lettuce, not so much of the lettuce innards that some restaurants pack their salads with to save money. The dressing was just about the right amount and very tasty. It was the right size portion too, not too big. The tomato soup was very good. I got a bowl but should have ordered a cup because the bowl of soup is huge! The soup was very flavorful--a little sweet for me but overall good. It came with a few small pieces of toasted and seasoned bread. I was surprised that the restaurant wasn't too crowded on a Sunday at lunchtime. The service was an appropriate speed and the decor of the restaurant was interesting and nice. I would like to come back next time we are in town. A much better option than the Penn Alps restaurant. read more

So disappointed! This cafe used to be one of my favorite places to eat, but my last two experiences were less than satisfactory. Just visited this past weekend and my steak sub was terrible. I couldn't eat any of the meat, because it was so tough! It wasn't just my sandwich, the other members of our party found their steak to be tough and the hamburger dry. The iced had no taste and the usually delicious bean salad was bland. The waitress was less than accommodating and when she finally got us our check, she then asked how our meals were. I told her about the steak kindly, and she was very curt and acted like she could care less! What a shame we won't be back to one of our favorite places to dine. read more

This is a fantastic farm to table restaurant. Although we walked in as they were closing they graciously offered us full menu and the Little Crossings Tavern Ale which had been opened that day in celebration of their first anniversary. Everything about this restaurant was positive - the gracious warm service, delicious food and to-die-for-dessert (which was cake, as this was a birthday celebration!) We started with a Greek Trio which included olive tapenade, tzatziki, and hummus alongside toasted pita chunks and highly recommend the croissant panini. We plan to detour through Grantsville on our future trips East to be able to taste all that's offered. You will not be disappointed! read more

This past weekend, myself and 5 of my friends traveled to Deep Creek, MD to celebrate a bachelorette weekend. As part of our trip, we decided to end the weekend off with dinner at The Cornucopia Cafe. Unfortunately, we barely endured a 2 1/2 hour long slew of mistakes, miscommunications, and painful service. (Yes, painful.) When we arrived, we were seated immediately. I recall a calm restaurant with only a few seated tables. Our server took our drink orders. At this point we received our menus and were introduced to the specials. 10 minutes later, half of our party received their drinks. 10 more minutes later, 2 more ladies in our party received their drinks, and then 10 more minutes later the last girl waiting on her beer finally received her drink. A new woman (trainee) arrived at our table to take our food order: one of our ladies requested an appetizer for her main dish. Also, 2 of the ladies at our table ordered the mozzerella pasta special. After taking our order back to the kitchen the actual server (not trainee) returned to the table exclaiming that they were out of the special, but they had a similar dish they could swap it for... After determining they could order the other option because she wasn't sure if was actually available, our ladies opted for the other dish The trainee brought our appetizers, including the one that was requested as a main dish. She offered to take it back, but my friend (the soon-to-be-bride) felt bad and did not want the trainee to have to take it back. She ate her entree alone. Also, one of the appetizers we received was wrong and it had to be taken back to the kitchen. Our party was still incredibly understanding and super hopeful for a great evening at this point. Some of our main meals came out (before we were served our bread or salads). The two ladies who ordered the other option because the special had run out had yet to receive their meals. When their pastas were brought to the table (by the server this time) they asked who got the gluten free and who got the regular pasta... NOBODY IN OUR PARTY EVER REQUESTED GLUTEN FREE. After explaining this, the server returned the gluten free dish back to the kitchen and MOMENTS later brought out a 'new' pasta dish. These ladies ordered the same exact four cheese stuffed pasta dish, but the shapes of the pasta were completely different and they tasted NOTHING ALIKE. Our server walked the gluten free pasta to the back and returned with the same dish she was supposed to swap out... At this point we asked the server to please bring the appropriate entree. She exclaimed that she would "just get the manager". The manager came to speak with us at our table as the trainee server bounced around each end of the table trying to figure out what drinks had not been filled, who was missing what from their plates, so on and so forth. We explained to her that we were here for the first time ever and were trying to help our friend enjoy a weekend away before she gets married. We also explained how we had been bounced between a server and a trainee she was supposed to be assisting, and how so many different parts of our order were just discombobulated. As we tried to enjoy the parts of our meals that were correct, the manager kept us talking about what was wrong and why our service had not been up to par. I could not even eat half of my food because my stomach was in knots because of the stress of trying to figure out what had gone wrong. 15 minutes later we finally received our salads and bread...The manager offered us free dessert and her personal discount for each person. We ordered our dessert to go, because at this point we had already spent nearly 2 hours in the restaurant. After getting our to-go's and waiting what felt like forever for our checks, they finally came, and not only were the desserts on the checks, but some of us had other people's items on our checks. We were all incredibly frustrated, ready to leave, and held up... again... We had the manager come back and she took our checks to the back of the house to correct. When she returned, the desserts were gone, but there was no discount applied, and there were still items wrong on most of our checks. Third time, the manager takes the checks back, re-applies the discount and brings them back with items still wrong on our checks. At this point, we all just paid our checks and gave each other money for the misplaced items...This bill should have been completely compensated for... We spent 2 1/2 hours trying to be understanding, patient, and sympathetic, but eventually the patience wore off and were grew tired of the repeated mistakes and miscommunication between staff. Most of us have worked in the service industry before and understand that mistakes can happen, especially when training new employees... but this went too far. The manager went as far to say something along the lines of "we will make it up to you next time". Myself and my 5 friends will NEVER return here. read more

The perfect spot for dinner or a much needed relaxing stop on a road trip! I was driving from West Virginia to DC and desperately wanted good food in a relaxing ambiance but conveniently located close to the highway -- nearly impossible given that I couldn't search while driving. But even the sign for Cornucopia with its adorable font told me this place would be special. It's basically perfect. In a tall, wooden building like a beautiful barn with wooden tables, comfortable seating, perfect lighting, all next to a picturesque brook and a field in the back. And the food is excellent! Unique and delicious, at an amazing price point. Loved their "lemonade mimosa" too made with raspberries and freshly squeezed lemonade. The service is spot on too. Very attentive hosts and waiting staff who are clearly dedicated and thoughtful in their work. I ended up staying longer than planned and wished I had more time. But I could back on the road feeling refreshed and excited to support this perfect spot! Will definitely be back if I find myself in the area! read more
