Great food and a long-standing local hotspot. The burgers are unique and huge. For years, our only complaint was boring potato chips as a side, but they recently added good fries to the menu. The menu is small which makes service quick and the kitchen quality focused. (Side note: I really liked how thin the onions were cut on the garlic burger.) Only downside is the small size and awkward layout of the restaurant. You have to pretty much walk through the kitchen to get to the outside patio dining area. Can't wait for another burger though. 3 stars alone for location & ambience. Sadly, we were very disappointed in the service and the food :( Prices are a little high for a dive bar but we figure location has to do with that. The owner we met was very sweet. His name was Dave. While visiting by brother in law, we drove by this numerous times and it was packed. He said that this is Ty Burrell's place from Modern Family. We called in and ordered a few burgers and fries to pick up. Arrived at the pick up time and it was ready just a couple minutes after that. Staff was super nice. The garlic burger was awesome! Great flavor but not overpowering with the garlic, which was nice. The bun was different than most burgers, but one that I prefer over others. I have not been here in many years. The burger was too small for the large bread bun they gave me. The garlic was so much garlic powder it tasted of raw garlic. There wasn't a anything all that good. With the new owners, they've completely renovated the place. The patios are much nicer. The garlic burger was fantastic. It was cooked properly. The bun matched. The fries you can get now were solid. They are dog friendly. The restaurant still had the old vibe that created an environment where you might talk to others around you. They finally deliver that the old restaurant promised and didn't deliver. I was visiting SLC from Sunny Cali! My husband This is NOT your high end bar, it's a locals bar with THE BEST garlic hamburgers ever !!!! The bread... almost like a French roll...soft, sweet, and they make it crunchy to perfection ! I really try to stick to my keto eating habits but with this deliciousness of a bun it was simply impossible ... it was sooo big I couldn't eat but only half...so I took the other half back to the hotel and had it the next morning cold... not my style but it was definitely worth it :) if you happen to be in Salk lake city... this is a must! read more

The famous Cotton Bottom Inn is back under new ownership and still a classic at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon. After being closed for a while they have reopened with a few updates to the interior and a new takeout window on the exterior. This little bar has a cozy atmosphere and is a great place for a bite to eat and a adult beverage. The menu is still short and simple with the signature garlic burger still on the menu in the original recipe. Another nice update is fries are now an option instead of potato chips. As many people know it changed ownership a few years ago and I can't say I love what they have done with the food. It isn't terrible, and I do appreciate the simple menu of burgers and fries, but the old Cotton Bottom garlic burger was the bomb and legendary in Holladay Utah and the new owners didn't seem to want to keep the tradition alive. I am heartbroken at the downward spiral of what used to be one of my favorite places. I moved away for a few years and just returned to Holladay. My husband and I decided to go get a garlic cheeseburger last night. What a disappointment. All I got was a stale hamburger bun with lots of lettuce, a piece of tomato, and a burger pattie that was less than 1/16th of an inch thick. The mini burger only filled half of the bun. I finally just took the mini pattie off the bun and ate that. Thank goodness they mixed a good drink. That at least gave them enough to get one star. This used to be a place we would go to weekly as it's close to our home. We'll have to find a new local hangout. read more

To add insult to injury; when it was time to pay; they brought the card reader that gave me an option to tip 20 % , 25%, 30% and 40%. This place reminds me of If there was a bar put in the woods. The place is close to home and it's definitely a " smaller " type of place but that didn't lack the quality of service or food +++ As you can see in the pictures I ordered a mouthwatering hamburger with all the fixings on and pair of fries which we're perfectly salted and had a little season on them, washed it down with a beer that I have not try yet it was ale I usually go for lighter beers like blue moon however this one was pretty good had some honey notes in it and it's from a local brewery in Wyoming which is cool. This place is more of country type of folk bar with lots of regulars it's a perfect spot you can stop in for a bite or drink before that trip or even after work it's very close to the freeway entrance so it makes it very easy to get back on the road after some grub. COVID friendly outside seating, with lots of tables and fence. Staff did follow protocols and they were so very nice. One thing I noticed is that they would make sure that you were taken care of like check on you but not over kill and they also made sure that your glass was not empty big plus on that in my book I don't like it when you have to ask for more drinks multiple times. Hmm. Maybe it's a good thing today was my first time eating here. Of course I've heard about The Cotton Bottom and driven by it for decades, but it took a friend suggesting we meet here for lunch to finally try it. I didn't order their famous garlic burger because my body doesn't like garlic. So I ordered a regular cheeseburger (well-done) with French fries instead of potato chips. Prices were high for the quality of food. Burgers come with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions and mayo. Mine wasn't cooked as specified--lots of pink and no flavor. Frozen patty?! The bun and cheese were good. They have ketchup and mustard at each table. Fries were crispy, well seasoned and came with Utah fry sauce. Our server was slow to take our order, but the food arrived quickly. She never refilled our water glasses. We had to ask to turn on a space heater since it got windy and cooled off while we were eating outside on the patio. If I return, I will try their Greek salad or chili. read more

The hamburger is big enough to share. But strangely there is an up charge for sharing. The wife ordered the chili. The chili has a bit of spice to it. But is pretty tasty. HORRIBLE experience. First time here (and last) after years of chatter about this place, and after years of friends/fam patronizing. We waited nearly 10 mins before someone came to "seat us". And we werent seated, we were pointed to a table (i get the environment but when you have a loud A room pointing and leaving isnt warm or helpful). When we were finally, after how long of sitting watching our server walk past us doing nothing (waited like 20 mins and no menu), greeted by our server Coco, the first words our of her mouth were cold, demanding, and the least bit friendly. That set the precedent for her crappy service and the tone for the night. Literally RBF the entire time from her. Not sure whats up with that. A little smile goes a long way, friends.... When we finally were offered to submit our order, and got the food, the burgers were dry AF (garlic burger) and served on a super dry and crusty piece of french bread. Insult to injury. We ordered single patties but received double and were charged for double. Worst, i couldnt even it it bc of someones extremely long hair in my food i couldnt even pull it out it was so long. Note: the RBF server chick had super long hair... When the ice queen finally checked on us like 29 mins after we received our food, i sent my food back. My friend didnt even eat hers, was so gross - she said it was the worst burger shes ever had. I had also asked for a new replacement utensil bc mine dropped, i had to ask like 3 times to replace it and she brought it out with her bare hand. WTF? Not wrapped in napkins or anything? Just ewe. Highlight of the night: another wait staff spilled someones beers all down my clothing bc he didnt look before he turned around with a tray of drinks. When we finally got our receipt, ice queen didnt say thanks, smile, or even give any eye contact. Liiiike we were considering not tipping her at all but her crap job got her 20%. We also dealt with someone bringing in their crying kids, a screaming baby and a young kid. Seriously screaming. As if our experience wasnt already unpleasant enough? We paid $40 something for 2 garlic burgers, a chip bag and a side salad with way too much salad dressing and cran raisins. Honest waste of time and money and would rather have put a glycerin suppository than deal with the pain in the A we did that night. Been coming here since the 80's so it is with regret to write this review. I used to love the garlic burger! It was so good and garlicky. Not the case anymore. The garlic cheeseburger I just ate had absolutely no garlic flavor at all. It literally used to have pieces of garlic in it and the aioli was also garlic, giving you a very nice blast of garlic. The oversized bun and the tiny patties are stupid too. At least it has raw onions.... Oh wait, they are gone now too!! The ONLY reason I was going there was to get the garlic burger. Why would you dumb it down, if someone doesn't like garlic then don't order a garlic burger. Whenever someone mentions the Cotton Bottom the first though should automatically be garlic burger. It's the obvious reason why you should go here. Like most people have said, the Cotton Bottom Inn has been a Salt Lake staple for decades. Sure it has changed ownership and things have been tweaked for both the better and the not so better, but everytime this place is mentioned everyone has some fond memory of it. So what there to eat? Well the garlic burger of course! Feel like something different? You can get a hardy serving of chili fries. Better yet, get the half order of chili fries. It's a bit much for one person either way. I hope you came hungry for this. Since this used to be a bar and still has a liquor license you can get something to wash down that giant burger. Draft, cans and mixed drinks are on the menu. Talking about the bar, they have one with seating along it if that's your style. Picnic tables outside of the building are good for larger groups and smaller tables inside if you don't want to fight the weather. Also inside is a pool table so heck to the yes. Parking is limited but they kept the motorcycle parking up front. If the lot is full, you can always park in the lot south of there where the trail passes by. Still having doubts? Okay, soooo glad they finally reopened this place. The spot is awesome, near the mouths of both canyons. Great aprés ski spot, forewarning, the inside is a little small. But aren't those the best places? The food is fricken awesome, their garlic burger (if you like garlic) is second to none. The beer is ice cold, and the people are awesome. Mondays and Tuesdays they play country music videos on the tv (I'm sure they're open to other stuff) and people get to listen, relax, have a good time. We shared the ham and cheese sammy and they were kind enough to split the meal on 2 plates for us and gave us extra chips! My wife says it's the best grilled cheese she's ever had.
