This place was BUMPIN' when I visited on a Friday night, quite literally packed to the brim. There was a really good live band playing that pulled a huge crowd. We managed to find a couple seats at the bar by some grace of god, ordered some drinks with quick service, and then scored a table. What a delightful place! We came because we heard they had a great patio to sit on. When we got there, there was a waiting list to go out there so they sat us inside and put our names down on the list. We were able to order our food and drinks right away. After our food got there, they came and told us a table was open so they helped us carry all of our dishes outside. It was gorgeous! So relaxing. We were visiting our daughter & SIL in Saratoga Springs & they like to try new places out. They had heard good things about The Hog Wallow & it was a beautiful day & we wanted to eat outside, this was the perfect place. WARNING, no kids allowed, all customers will be carded upon entering. We're retired & they have no kids so we appreciated this, it's hard to find an all adult place to eat in the middle of the day. At night, it's a lively place with a stage, dance floor & bar inside. During the day, you can eat inside, it's a little dark, or eat outside. The outside has about 8-9 tables with a waterfall feature & umbrellas, it's a really nice vibe. The service was excellent & the drinks & food were amazing with the cook coming out to check on us I can't remember what everyone else had but I had the Tri-Tip sandwich and the Merlot Sangria, OMG, they were both so good. That's what I pictured when I went into Hog Wallow recently with a friend. It totally has that vibe-although it was missing the arrogant Gaston and his posse. Hog Wallow is tucked into a corner of the mountain and you take a windy road to get there. Once you arrive, you do feel like you're in a storybook tavern-everything from the décor to the building itself and the location are unique. Just like any other bar, be prepared to show ID at the door (leave the littles at home!) and snag a seat at the bar or a table. The place fills up fast, regardless of what night of the week you visit. It's popular. The menu has lots of great drinks including some standard, trusty cocktails. They also have a nice food menu-the chili is good, but it has a bit of a kick to it. If you're a wimp like me, beware. Service was fantastic! read more

Another afternoon stop for a nonalcoholic beer, a great burger, called the Hogs and old friends for many years. The burgers are great. The employees were very amicable. Door guys, Zack and Tyler were friendly and smiling. Bartender's Brandi and Tessa were very friendly and took good care of me. Great place for an afternoon stop before heading home. Beautiful hideaway setting, historic building, local's favorite. What's not to like. I like the Sierra Nevada Trail Pass IPA nonalcoholic beer. The best thing I can say about the bar is the chili. It had been decades since I had been to Hog Wallow and the charm was gone. Not that it does not have a very high reputation and reception in Salt Lake County as being the kind of place you want to be recognized as a patron particularly if you are either wealthy and live in the Sandy South Eastern bench near Big or Little Cottonwood Canyons or an ardent skier or both. The second night I went there this year was about the first good skiing day of the season so I had the flavor of the young skiers, the regulars, and a surprising number of BYU football fans. Does the Mormon Church have an interest in the place? With the exception of one elderly fellow like myself who apparently had once been a champion skier, the ones that seemed to be the regulars in the bar were decidedly cold and unfriendly to a strange face, even a bit hostile. It was a motley lot though I must say. The hip cool ski crowd and the apparently upper bench rich mostly snobby crowd. I had read that this was a "roadhouse" that shared something in common with the now long gone and sadly establishment, "The Garage." Far from it. Being in this place made miss the The Garage all the more. The bartenders also had a rather sarcastic attitude about them like they were sharing a wise crack with the regulars or were just plain unfriendly. read more

This place was really packed on a Saturday night. Live music, pool, and a friendly crowd. At the bartenders suggestion we tried a Tom Kha flavored sour with coconut and lemongrass. It was shockingly awesome. I didn't even think that flavor combo in a beer was possible but it really works. We also ordered their pretzel sticks, sweet potato fries, and the pork nachos. All were freaking bomb. The pork nachos are especially yummy and huge. That dish alone could easily feed four people. I visited this place a few months ago while in town for a wedding. Myself and my wife had a peanut butter and jealous shot with our group. The shot was extremely curdled and it looked like the half and half was well expired but we were assured by the wait staff that it was normal. It was the only drink she had with her meal besides water. Fast forward a few hours and my wife is in the hospital with food poisoning and an IV in her arm. We are still having to pay insurance premium from our hospital visit due to this business's incompetence. read more

Blink and you might see this in the rear mirror. Parking is small. This is a good mixture of locals and a few tourists who came a crossed on their way up the canyon. This is a regular place. I come to when I visit Salt Lake City. The service is great and the beer is great and usually the food is very good. But tonight, Wednesday, March 12 I got takeout and the French dip was the worst sandwich I've ever eaten. And I am 63 years old. The meat was burnt. It was more like a burnt cheesesteak than a French dip, and the dipping gravy was absolutely awful. I've noticed this is a trend of late at this place, and whoever is in the back cooking, tends to overcook and burn entrées. We decided to try this place out because we heard it was great. The atmosphere was fun like an old cabin with a wood burning fire. If you like the pub feel I think it's a lot of fun. We went to try their food and it was decent. The burger was really yummy and good consistency. The pretzels were ok. The cheese was great for them but they were more the consistency of bread and fairly bland for flavor. The nachos were huge. I recommend adding the chili and the pulled pork. We wanted to add some BBQ sauce to it but their BBQ sauce tasted more like a sweet and sour vinaigrette to us so we didn't care much for that. The fries were awesome. We liked that spices and the sauce a lot for those. The waitress was awesome, so kind and fart with taking care of us. We were very pleased with the staff. We came here for lunch on a Thursday. I was a tad reticent to eat here, as it looked more like a biker bar as we parked and walked in. Afterwards, i reminded myself, "Don't judge a book by its cover!" We sat outside and the trees and plants, coupled with some decent space between the tables made for a relaxing environment. Salad with crispy chicken and homemade ranch dressing hit the spot. My wife had the pulled pork which was very good. I liked the fries that came with it--perfectly cooked.
