We love Hog Wallow. From the ambiance inside to the retreat that is their patio. This is a small pub. Plenty of on tap brews, and they make some really good mixed drinks too. The food is really good for this style of pub. I personally go back for the smoked wings (fried are great too). I have tried a number of different items from their menu, I can't recall ever being disappointed by a meal or a brew that I've had. This place gets BUSY. They know how to pack it in. Live music, friendly atmosphere. The staff does a really good job bouncing around to make sure things are taken care of. Service times can run a little long. And parking can be the biggest hurdle as it fills up. But I wouldn't let either of those deter you from trying this place, you won't be disappointed. read more

This is a fantastic pub in the rough. We were looking for something new, so I thought we would check it out not looking at any of the other reviews. We just went for it. The service is fantastic! The seating area outback is phenomenal. It's quaint, wonderful surroundings of nature. We ordered the fried wings with citrus habanero sauce and definitely a 10 out of 10! And the Macho Nachos were a little less delicious, but still tasty. Under the first layer none of the cheeses melted. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for, someplace to chill and just have a drink with a side of food. Alright. I was wrong. I love this place. It is great to be on the way to the Canyons. Summers are special to eat outside. I was definitely wrong in my first impression of service. They are young and as close as I can get to the '60's or at least a spark of memory. What's not to love? Except, I do not know why an assistant manager or whoever his title is lied to me about me about whether the music playing was coming from the jute box. Maybe it was an honest mistake. I wanted to play music on the jute box and he told me there was music playing from there and I would probably have a long wait: I decided to try. There was no music ahead of me at all. Pretty standard bar food in a rustic setting. Chances are, you'll have to join a waitlist for patio seating or scramble for seat yourself inside, that's how popular this watering hole is. However, once I found a table with my party, we were served and placed orders within minutes. This place was BUMPIN' when I visited on a Friday night, quite literally packed to the brim. There was a really good live band playing that pulled a huge crowd. This place was great! This was a noisy, busy, dive bar with killer drinks and great service. There were pool tables in the back. We left as live music was starting up. What a delightful place! We came because we heard they had a great patio to sit on. When we got there, there was a waiting list to go out there so they sat us inside and put our names down on the list. We were able to order our food and drinks right away. After our food got there, they came and told us a table was open so they helped us carry all of our dishes outside. It was gorgeous! So relaxing. They had a waterfall out there and some fun decorations. Umbrellas over all of the tables so the trees don't drop stuff in our food. Speaking of the food, everything we ordered was delicious! We were visiting our daughter & SIL in Saratoga Springs & they like to try new places out. They had heard good things about The Hog Wallow & it was a beautiful day & we wanted to eat outside, this was the perfect place. WARNING, no kids allowed, all customers will be carded upon entering. We're retired & they have no kids so we appreciated this, it's hard to find an all adult place to eat in the middle of the day. At night, it's a lively place with a stage, dance floor & bar inside. During the day, you can eat inside, it's a little dark, or eat outside. The outside has about 8-9 tables with a waterfall feature & umbrellas, it's a really nice vibe. The service was excellent & the drinks & food were amazing with the cook coming out to check on us I can't remember what everyone else had but I had the Tri-Tip sandwich and the Merlot Sangria, OMG, they were both so good. The door person thoroughly inspected my small purse for outside drinks, yet I watched several older women walk in with huge bags that went unchecked. That's what I pictured when I went into Hog Wallow recently with a friend. It totally has that vibe-although it was missing the arrogant Gaston and his posse. Hog Wallow is tucked into a corner of the mountain and you take a windy road to get there. Once you arrive, you do feel like you're in a storybook tavern-everything from the décor to the building itself and the location are unique. Just like any other bar, be prepared to show ID at the door (leave the littles at home!) and snag a seat at the bar or a table. The place fills up fast, regardless of what night of the week you visit. It's popular. The menu has lots of great drinks including some standard, trusty cocktails. Another afternoon stop for a nonalcoholic beer, a great burger, called the Hogs and old friends for many years. The burgers are great. The employees were very amicable. Door guys, Zack and Tyler were friendly and smiling. Bartender's Brandi and Tessa were very friendly and took good care of me. Great place for an afternoon stop before heading home. Beautiful hideaway setting, historic building, local's favorite. What's not to like. I like the Sierra Nevada Trail Pass IPA nonalcoholic beer. Maybe they've made some changes in the last couple years or maybe some locals are review bombing to keep this place under wraps--either way, I'd consider this pub a hidden gem of salt lake! Some would even say it's the best apres bar in the city. One things for sure, this pub is a welcomed contrast to the pretentious vibes of many other joints nearby. This place was really packed on a Saturday night. Live music, pool, and a friendly crowd. At the bartenders suggestion we tried a Tom Kha flavored sour with coconut and lemongrass. It was shockingly awesome. I didn't even think that flavor combo in a beer was possible but it really works. We also ordered their pretzel sticks, sweet potato fries, and the pork nachos. All were freaking bomb. The pork nachos are especially yummy and huge. That dish alone could easily feed four people. I get it's a pub, but the food was below average and our server wasn't the best (basically just took our order and then gave us our bill, didn't check in after we got our food, etc.). $50 for 2 burgers and 2 non alcoholic drinks. Not worth it. I could see this being a cool place to hang if you live close by and just ordered some drinks, but the overall vibe I got was "we're too cool for you" bar vibe. I visited this place a few months ago while in town for a wedding. Myself and my wife had a peanut butter and jealous shot with our group. The shot was extremely curdled and it looked like the half and half was well expired but we were assured by the wait staff that it was normal. It was the only drink she had with her meal besides water. Fast forward a few hours and my wife is in the hospital with food poisoning and an IV in her arm. We are still having to pay insurance premium from our hospital visit due to this business's incompetence. read more

Blink and you might see this in the rear mirror. Parking is small. This is a good mixture of locals and a few tourists who came a crossed on their way up the canyon.
