I've been using Cotton Club for many years. They are very fair in their pricing and the work is exceptional. I gained some weight a few years ago and i had 5 or 6 pair of pants that needed to be let out. Some of the colors were very hard to match they did a remarkable job matching those colors and didn't charge me a penny more for all the extra work finding those colors. I will always use them. I have taken several pairs of pants to be hemmed and have always been pleased with the quality of their work. However, I recently took in a jacket to have the sleeves shortened and the button moved, and I had a horrible experience with customer service. I dropped the jacket off on a Monday and explained that because it was for an interview, it was critically important that the jacket be ready on Saturday. The seamstress took my jacket but complained the whole time about being sick. I felt genuinely bad for her and told her that if it wasn't possible to do the jacket by Saturday because of her illness, I completely understood and it wasn't a problem. But she said it would be done. Well, she called me at work on Friday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. and told me that she wouldn't have the jacket completed by the next day and that I needed to come pick it up immediately because she was leaving work because of her illness. I was livid and could not get an answer about why I was receiving this call on Friday afternoon, instead of earlier in the week, when I actually had time to take the jacket elsewhere. Long story short, she had another worker take the jacket home to finish. When I arrived at the shop on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., as agreed, the worker who had taken my jacket home hadn't arrived yet. But when I came back an hour later, I was able to take my jacket home. Although their work is excellent, it's meaningless if I can't trust that it will be completed on time. And when I'm paying people for a service, I would prefer not to feel like I'm inconveniencing them. I will not be back, and I would not recommend them for anything time-sensitive. read more

I cannot praise the Cotton Club enough. And what a great name. I've been going to the CC for years to hem new pants and jeans which I can find in my waist size, but are too long. I've lost count of the number of pants they done for me. They even do great cuffs. I even had them shorten the legs on a pair of suit pants, and shorten the arms on the coat I bought on sale. I think $35 did it all! I even had them replace a zipper on a leather coat and a leather jacket. Once they didn't actually replace the entire zipper, just the part you pull up. It took only seconds and a few bucks, then I was back on the road. Try your stuff on at pick-up. If it isn't right, they will make it right. Now, if they would only do shoe repair. read more

She is amazing. I had ordered a custom dress online and hated it when I tried it on because it didn't fit right despite sending my measurements. My dress was a super delicate lace and I wasn't sure how alterations would work. She did a fabulous job!! She was also very reasonably priced. To take a couple inches of the bottom, to sew on sleeves, and to take off the boning/bring in the size, it was $75 (where other estimates were in the $200+ range). Brought my wedding dress in to get fixed. The straps were too big, the waist was too tight and the bottom needed to be brought up. It was very affordable to fix everything. The woman that works there is sweet and did a wonderful job! I could not be more happy with the work she did. She also put together my grandma's crown and my mothers veil, which is very special to me. Overall, five stars and two thumbs up from me! Thank you again! Went in on a Wednesday, $20 to get a pair of pants hemmed and tapered (including $5 rush charge) in time for a wedding Saturday night. Cheaper than I expected and the alterations themselves were great but the woman that runs this place was so curt and off putting I don't think I'll be back. It's unfortunate because I didn't feel they were at all concerned at all about whether I left satisfied and made me feel like I was inconveniencing them just by coming in. read more

I will not go anywhere else for tailoring. Everything I have taken there has turned out perfect. I just had my wedding dress altered with cotton club and it is perfect. I even asked her to make a drastic change in the dress and it was on time and exactly what I had in mind. The seamstress is a bit quiet but so helpful. The building is small but the dressing rooms are just what I need since I am a very modest person and I hate dressing rooms that show more then they cover. I love this place! I used to use The Cotton Club all the time to get dresses altered for weddings ( so much more reasonably than having this done at a bridal shop). I would also get pants hemmed. They do quality work and really take their time. Cash only. It may take a couple days so plan ahead when you decide what day to drop your items off. It is worth it. I haven't had anything altered in a while, but well worth the drive and cost to go here. read more

I needed to shorten the sleeves of my polyester-spandex sports jacket. I brought it to a dry clean - alteration shop in Sycamore where they said they would charge $28 for the job. I agreed. The next day, however, the shop told me they could not alter the jacket an asked me to take it back. I found Cotton Club through this page, brought my jacket in. The lady did not say much, just wrote me a receipt and told me to come back picking up the jacket a week later. A week later, I got the jacket altered exactly the way I wanted, and all for only $15. Dekalb should consider itself lucky to have Cotton Club doing business in the town. It is not easy to find such a good tailor in a small town. I highly recommend this shop. read more

So I went to get two shirts and a pair of dress pants tailored. First off let me tell me how shocked I was that I paid $73 for crappy work. My paints were barely touched. I needed them to be tighter and they are still baggy and don't fit well. My shirts needed to be shortened. That didn't happen. And one of my shirts (which was an extra large, I wear a medium) now does not fit me because it was tightened more than it needed to be. I would recommend going to a different tailor in this area because you will be over charged for bad work if you go to the cotton club. read more

After reading great reviews and speaking with people who have been I decided to bring a bridesmaids dress in for alterations. I called and set up a time to come in 3 weeks ahead of time and was comfortable with the plan and thrilled with the price ($75 to hem, take in the sides, line a portion of the back with fabric I brought in and shorten the straps). I called 2 days before I needed to pick it up and was told to come in as scheduled 2 days before leaving for the event. When I got there I was horrified to find that the 3 layers of the skirt were all different lengths: the outermost layer of tulle was the correct length, the inner layer of tulle was 2 inches too long, and the innermost layer of the dress that was solid fabric was 2 inches too short in the front and 3 inches too short in the back. The seamstress looked at me and said "ok that's fine?". NO that's not fine! They seemed annoyed when I pressed the issue that the entire dress needed to be the same length and touching the floor NOT showing my ankles on one layer and being so long that I would trip on the other. She told me she had already spent a lot of time doing what she did. Ultimately they used scrap fabric they had cut off the hem to rectify the issue overnight and it was wearable for the wedding (thankfully) but they offered no discount and made no apology. The rest of the work on the dress was good and overall it fit better than when I brought it in, however, the quality of the work still seemed somewhat rushed even though they had the dress for 3 weeks (they rolled the fabric in on the sides rather than removing it, I had to ask that a visible portion of the lining be trimmed down so it couldn't be seen). I appreciate other people have had good experiences and I hope this was a fluke but it was enough that I wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone. read more
