If it was 2 weeks ago before alterations, I would give them a 5-star review. They have a nice selection of dresses. The teens that work there are very nice. Very limited mirror space for viewing. We did find 2 dresses and I spent nearly $1,000 on 2 prom dresses for my twins. Plus, I love supporting small business and drove 2 hours each way to do this! We drove 70 miles 4x to get dresses and subsequent alterations. On our last visit when we picked up a dress that had been altered, they asked me to pay BEFORE my daughter tried on her altered dress. WHO DOES THIS? Unless they know there is something that you are NOT going to be happy with. Well sure enough, the dress was worse than before it was altered. Yes, they offered to fix it and told me it would be a couple of hours. Again, we live 2 hours away and I wasn't expecting to spend the day in DeKalb. If you're going to charge me $65 for alterations, they should be done by someone who knows how to alter corseted dresses with boning in them. Again, to spend $540 on a dress that looked better before they altered it, I was very upset. They didn't even apologize. The manager was awful and didn't treat us with respect. I'm very disappointed with the service and how we were treated. My group went to the clearance section in the basement, which was very fun until the manager and a worker came down. The manager yelled at us for trying on different dresses, which is not okay. I felt very rushed and uncomfortable near the end as the worker kept trying to yank the dresses out of my hands before I made a decision on whether or not to try it on. Very poor service. To put it bluntly, I've never had a problem finding a dress I like here (fr yr hoco and now sr yr prom) however, customer service sucks and they are in desperate need of more adult help. Only one adult in the whole store it seemed like with about 10 teenagers running around. The teenagers that work there, although very sweet, are not helpful. They have limited knowledge in response to questions about alterations during the middle of prom season. Again they just need more adult help here. I have been to duckys formal twice now. Not only is the manager incredibly rude and condescending, but the staff as a whole is incredibly unhelpful. Both times I was looking in the clearance dress section, and was completely ignored by staff when arriving. The first time I had to ask a man working in the antique store where the dresses were, and no staff ever assisted me. I was completely ignored my entire time there, and had to seek out staff multiple times in order to help with zipping up dresses. The second time I was with a group, and when we were once again ignored. While we were being ignored, we were enjoying our time. As soon as the manager and staff came into the picture, they started berating our group for having multiple dresses in the dressing rooms and started yanking dresses out of our hands. I thought it was incredibly dumb and rude to have supposed "rules" against holding dresses in a dress shop. The staff seem to be against girls trying on dresses... in a prom dress shop. We were talked down to and incredibly rushed, and the service was so poor I was hoping the staff would go back to ignoring me. Avoid this business at all cost. Customer service is non-existent at Ducky's from the fitting, to the pick-up and the return. Every opportunity to dispute a question was taken. Meaningless, unnecessary jabs were endless from this miserable employee. I didn't realize that you were open on Sunday, your website indicates closed - No it doesn't. While trying on, I didn't ask for the skinny pants style - Yes you did. Can I use your washroom - No, we don't have a public washroom, you can go across the street to another business. There's a coupon on your website for a $50 savings - the price already reflects that. Can I pay the full total since I won't be here for the pick up - UGH, I guess if it's absolutely, necessary. During pick up, this shirt is too snug can you go up a size - if you go up a size, you will be swimming in it since you're soo skinny. Dropping the suit off, can you check that everything is complete? - No, you're fine we will go through it later. After insisting the drop off to be inspected - well you're missing the cuff links but that's ok. Confirming with my son, the cuff links were attached to the original (too small) shirt and we never received them. Reach deep into your nasty soul and realize that everyone can make a mistake, it just takes a stronger human being to admit it. A one star rating is really too much. When going to Ducky's Formal in Dekalb to look for Hoco dress... Make sure hold on to your "maybes" and not put on "your hold rack". A Mom will take it and purchase it and not one employee will say anything about it to the Mom even after you question it. So I didn't get the dress my daughter actually wanted. Also.. NO restrooms. For the price of dresses there they can't provide a bathroom for paying customers?? .. WTF! Definitely NOT a good experience!! Truly disappointed I would actually give ZERO start. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Had An appointment and they moved on to someone else because they "thought" my daughter was in the bathroom. I asked a few times how long it would take and you could clearly hear them talking to the lady who does that alterations. Instead she took her sweet time with a wedding party. By the reviews already I see the customer service is not up to par. I should have read the reviews. Also for all the money spent you would think they would have a bathroom on premise instead of having to leave the store and then they just move on to the next. Very poor costumer service during a hard time. We placed an order for a flower girl dress with plenty of time according to their recommendations but the dress was delayed due to the supplier in China with Coronavirus. They never communicated the delay until we reached out 2 weeks before the wedding which was a week after expected it to be in. They stated it would be in Friday or Monday before the big day but did not arrive until the Friday before the wedding which was too late and refuses to do refund due to not being able to use it in the wedding. This place is the worst for tux measurements! First off the woman behind the counter acted like I inconvenienced her life upon me walking in the door, what a useless staff! I went in asked to be sized for a wedding; she told me it would be $10. I have worked at ,and managed a few big name formalwear establishments; and I have never charged anyone for sizing, or heard of any reputable place charging for it...it takes a few minutes! Worst off they didn't measure me accurately; the coat size they landed me in was way to big, the shoe they had me try on was diabolically narrow, shirt was off minus the only two measurements they actually took neck and sleeve. Had they bothered to take all 7 measurements a good place would take; they'd have gotten it right. Luckily I saw through their mistakes and went elsewhere, and got measured for FREE. read more

Brought in a dress for alterations and paid $75 fee up front - after picking up the dress I was told I owed the $75- said I already paid and pulled up the transaction on my bank app- I could see it being an honest mistake but once I got the dress home I had tried on the dress and had to makeshift alterations with safety pins and and stitches so it wouldn't fall off- have no idea what I paid for - I will never go there again and caution anyone who does read more

Hmm. $150 for a tux. Okay. The shirt was too small, but I can't put that blame on the store. I went back and exchanged it for a slightly bigger neck without a problem. While at the store, I conversed with a family who was their to exchange a ring bearer's tux, which seemed to have some serious sizing problems. New shirt collected, I proceeded to the wedding. Hmm. What's the deal? I have a stain on my vest! It's noticeable, but not deal breaking, so I shrug, whatever, and move on. "Hey Brett, why are your pants purple?" What? Oh. My pants are faded. They don't even match the jacket, let alone the other groomsmen outfits. Sigh, okay. Not enough time to get new clothes. Fine, I guess I'll just wear the stained vest and color-challenged pants. Not sure how you can run a formal wear rental place and not have hours that accommodate your customers. People participate in weddings and are from out of town. When you're only open technically 3 days. It's a holiday weekend and you can only pick up a tux on Thursday night for a Sunday wedding?? Not convenient. The absolute worst customer service. First of, their hours online are posted incorrect. We showed up on a Sunday when it said it was open SURPRISE, closed. Second attempt, we call to check they say yes we are open until 6. Arrive at 445, second surprise they close at 5. We wait 5-10 minutes to be greeted only to be given attitude by the woman (Tracy) who complains on the phone that she has to measure him. At this point I'm so shocked I barely have words. I wish I could personally tell each person who wants to use this for suit rental to run far and fast. read more

In short, I'd rather spend a little more at a place that has their stuff together.  If you are going here for a wedding, please look at other options. Your bridal party will be FAR better with just about any other option. My experience was with a tux.  These guys have no clue how to plan. Everything they do is handwritten. If they can't read another person's handwriting there are bound to be mistakes. They don't stock enough accessories, so if you decide that you may need something at your final fitting, which will be the DAY BEFORE your event, you'll have to go somewhere else. Again, the final fitting will be the day before your event. I asked at my initial fitting when their second fitting would be, in case there were problems. I got that "deer in headlights" look and was told about their policy. So, if there's a mistake (which is likely) you're at the mercy of their inventory (which sucks).  Odd mistakes are not rare. Many names were misspelled, in spite of the fact that due to the lack of technology in the place it would be impossible for there to be a "typo". Other, more encumbering mistakes were made. Many tuxedos were improperly sized. Someone had pants that were hemmed to different leg lengths on each side. Not all of the tuxedos that had bow ties came with studs. People were constantly talked out of suspenders, and those that insisted on getting suspenders were not able to get them on the day of pickup. read more

Because I asked for alternations for a dress that I bought there and the alternations was just bending the straps on the dress with just a string to pull it back, I wanted to be alternated as it cut off of the extra strap but it was done unprofessionally and still wanted me to pay 10$ for it but no one told me to pay it as apart form the dress and I did wait a long time for this dress 4 months to be alternated, and I told them it was wrong but this wasn't an alternation in my point if view, they said they could cut it off and the alternation was done as for if it was going to be to tight we could loose it off but how was the thing sowed like that and 4 Months of waiting and we were ready to pick it up!? And the day of the event is coming up and I wasn't gonna wait for them to alternated again and take a long time again. I would not be going again here ever again and I don't recommend it and honestly It was the worst experience I ever had as my first time going there. read more

I took my nephew there to rent a tux for prom. They had a decent selection but were swamped with prom goers. The process took over 2 1/2 hours, seemed unreasonable, but given how many young people rent tuxes there for prom I tried to be patient. We tried on 5 white shirts of different sizes and cuts. We really had a hard time finding one that fit properly. Once we did, we carefully took note of the size and style and handed it over to our consultant with specific instructions that this was "the one". But, not the one we got! Nor was the vest or the pants. We picked up the day before prom as instructed and took everything home to try on. Literally nothing fit like in the showroom. We took pictures, so Im not imagining things. We called and explained and we had to go back to get a new pants, shirt and vest. UGH. Not easy on prom day, but oh well. When I got home with the good, they gave us the wrong shirt again. My nephew had to safety pin his shirt closed as this one did couldn't button around his neck. I cant stress enough how careful we were when picking out his tux, and honestly none of it mattered. It was such a disappointment. Drive east, his tux was almost $200 and nothing he got was right, just not worth it! read more

Have never had a problem finding Homecoming and Prom dresses here for my daughters, always a great selection and something unique to be found. However, for the second year in a row, the alterations have absolutely sucked. Inaccurate measuring, sloppy work, hanging threads, and not ready on promised date or being completed in a rush when we arrived for pickup. A simple hemming of a prom dress this month was the last straw, a plastic mesh/grid thing was sewn into the hem when dress was shortened and it turned under and was visible all night. Not sure why this ridiculous piece was necessary instead of a strait forward hem. And of course the problem does not present itself during the 5 minutes the dress is on during the fitting. May buy dresses from here again, as it is convenient to choose from a large selection without chasing all over, but have learned my lesson and will go elsewhere for alterations. read more

I would leave 0 stars if possible. The woman who "helped" me was zero help at all. Attitude was given from start to finish. I walked in wearing better fitting clothes than I will get when my tux arrives. I have been fit for suits multiple times and know that the garments used for sizing are not always slim/modern/fitted, but when I ask and the employee cannot even show me what I will be wearing or at least something similar, I know that what I get will not fit well. I own multiple suits purchased from a different store and have never been happier. Please stay far far away! read more

Like he said. $150 for a tux. At least mine (the groom's) was free. Picked Ducky's cause they were in the town we were getting married in and with groomsmen spread all over northern Illinois we could get them all to get fitted relatively close to home whether in Chicago or the Quad Cities. Sizing in different locations didn't work that great - no continuity in information on pricing from one shop to the next. Some groomsmen got charged a deposit up front, others did not. Upon receiving the tux - dark smudge on the outside of my collar; only reason I didn't return it was because I had about 2 hours before the wedding, and the jacket covered it up. On Sunday the bride's mother got grief because out of the twelve tuxes rented, one of the ushers misplaced his cheapo synthetic bag for his shoes. Ducky's told them that if it wasn't returned in three days "a call would be made to the bride and groom." Lucky he found it in time. The conversation would not have gone well. Also, the "free wedding invitations" end up not being free. They end up costing us $300 bucks; only the invitation is free. You still have to pay for the envelopes, the outer envelopes, the reception cards, etc. They screwed those up twice too. All in all; poor customer service, tricky pricing, not the greatest quality. If they weren't the only tux shop in town, they would be out of business. read more

RUINED $200 IN DENIM!!! I took two pairs of brand new with tag denim jeans (Silver Zac & some Guess) in to get slighlty hemmed. I stand 5'10.5" with an inseam slightly over the standard 30". Both pairs of jeans were 32" inseam and only needed a LITTLE alteration. DUCKY'S CUT OFF OVER 5 INCHES ON EACH - Resulting in a 27" inseam! Straight-up flood water pants on a 5'10.5" man!! And, super poor stitching! It was the owner that had originally helped me with measurements and had the whole conversation of the 32-30 inseam difference. Yeah, I agreed to whatever she said; she was the supposed to be the professional at this.... but at pickup time SHE BLAMED ME because I had agreed to what she orginally said!! She outsourced the work to her seamstress who hacked off WAY TOO MUCH. They are cut like slacks but worse; there is no relaxation like a pair of denim jeans should have. The stitching was thinner than original and would NEVER last the durress that a cuff stitch undergoes. Beyond that, IT WASN'T EVEN STRAIGHT!! It looked like a bad tattoo that didn't line up with .5" crooked overlap!! OFFERED NO COMPENSATION for the $200 in denim that they ruined. It took me 7 attempts to just get the $25 back from the piss-poor hemming they had already charged me. AND THEY ARE SUPER RUDE!!! Took two days longer than quoted and charged more at pickup! Quoted $24 and charged $25! All of their reviews say they overcharge after quote!! read more

First- wouldn't allow my son to choose the fit of his pants. He requested a slimmer fit and after much argument she said that was ok. Upon pickup realized she must've thought she knew best and didn't order what we asked, so his pants were wrong. I called to verify a shirt color as we were torn between black or white. She crudely stayed she'd have to go look it up. I said ok, I'll wait. She was clearly annoyed at this. My husband stopped by to request the shirt change. She was angry and stated this should have been sorted out when it was ordered. The tux was brought back the following day. Today my son received a phone call with a message stating my card would be charged the full price as they haven't received it. I called and the lady that answered said she'd been leaving many messages. Only called us once though. Then she said ok thanks and was about to hang up when I shouted you don't even know the name or school. She goes ok what- I said the school and name and asked her to verify it's been received and she said she'd call back if not and hung up. Terrible. There are so many shops out there that will make this shopping for promwear fun! Take your business elsewhere. read more

First off, The staff was pretty rude. They mumbled and took their time asking my wedding party and I if we needed help. The first fitting went ok, but my dad needed shorter pants and my groom needed a shirt with a bigger neck. I was assured the new sizes would be in our suit package for the wedding. Wedding day rolls around, my dads pants are still to big, and my groom had to leave the top button of his shirt undone. And, after reviewing my wedding photos, I noticed my dads vest and bowtie color did not match, the vest had a light purple tone, and the bowtie was a yellowed dull off white. His button up white shirt also had completely different buttons on it than my grooms.Not horrible mistakes, but I was promised better. And yes, they were $150 a suit. Kind of high for a suit that does not even fit, or come with the bowtie I ordered. read more

Horrible! Needed to get my wedding dress altered. Had three fittings. Even though I had an appointment at all three, the first two fittings they made me wait with my dress undone, which I feel is unprofessional. When I asked to look at baby vests, the girl showing me had very poor customer service and I had to ask to talk to the seamstress. Then when I went to put my dress on the day of my wedding it still had pins in the crinoline (not just 5 but the entire crinoline). I would have sewn it real quick but I didn't have time. I was tripping over the crinoline all day and pins were falling out which wasn't good because my 8 month old was crawling around. Overall, I was very unsatisfied with there customer service and then they didn't follow through with hemming my dress. I would not recommend Ducky's formal wear. read more

Went prom shopping and was torn between two dresses at Duckys and the lady that was helping me offered to hold the two dresses with a $100 deposit(that went towards whichever dress I chose) so I could sleep on it before making my decision. I returned later and chose a stunning and classy black and gold dress and my boyfriend even got fitted with a matching tux the same day! Since then, they haven't become any more warm, welcoming, nor polite. The customer service is terrible and I can't help but have this nagging feeling as to why given everytime were there, the other customers are being helped so urgently. I walked in today looking for a bridal Shower gown and was immediately questioned (not politely asked) what I "wanted". After responding "just browsing", she asks me again across the room no less than 2 minutes later. I told her I would gladly wait until she was finished with her current guests (who were receiving phenomenal service mind you). When I tried on my gowns, not once was I asked what I was shopping for, if I needed any assistance or the like. It was clear she didn't care for my business. That's not the first time we've gotten that piss poor service from Ducky's and I can guarantee they will not get my business nor those of my associates. read more

Right off the bat, the lady made it seem like he was an inconvenience to her time and was annoyed and rude. Might I add, she waited a solid 6 minutes before greeting us when we were clearly waiting for her. She then pulls out pieces and makes him try them on. She gives him a clearly WAY TOO BIG shirt. He says something about it and it's like she just ignores him. Then he goes to pick up the tux and tries it on later. HORRIBLE fit. Tiny pants, huge shirt and huge jacket. It's like she never even measured him!! Then he went to return it and the lady tried to blame the poor sizing on him. She didn't even know you could get dress shirts with a different size neck. HOW DO YOU OWN A SHOP IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT?!? I was appalled by all 3 of those trips. I will never put my money towards that business and I highly recommend nobody else does either. Poor treatment & poor work is just not okay. Please check your ego before your next customer comes in. Walmart carries dress shirts with different neck sizes and you said that it didn't exist and you own a business in dress clothes. Seriously? HORRIBLE! I will never go back and I've told everyone I know to never go there. It took them a month to alter my dress. I had to go in 5 times and every time they did something wrong. I live an hour away too. The forgot to hem it, the hemmed the dress lopsided, the sewed the slit closed, the ripped my dress and yelled at me for ripping it. They made me cry and they ruined my dress. I had to take it to someone else 1 week before prom! The seamstress I took it to couldn't believe the horrible work they did. Almost a disaster! Went in was greeted by a somewhat stuffy older women who as I understand it her job is push on you the more expensive dresses. Their sizing method is in fact very confusing. I told her we needed to find a size 8 she barked at me " we don't discuss sizes, your a glamourous" So you have to search thru tags for ones marked glamourous. After finding the perfect dress that was a bit too small she was at first hesitant to see if it could be ordered and persisted we try on other dresses that were not all our style or price range. We put down our deposit and were told the dress would take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Received a call in about 3 weeks that the dress was in and arrived to pick it up. She brought out the dress and she was a bit shocked when we asked to try it on. My daughter knew instantly that this was the dress that we originally had tried on that was way to small. The women returns to the back and comes out and says that they had ordered and were told the dress was in fact sold out and this was the last one. So in otherwords she was trying to push the dress on us without trying it on. She then offers us a 100 dollar discount on any other dress in the store. It took us a few hours of sifting thru dresses to find something that we even felt comfortable buying. The women in front of us was greeted with smiles and we were hastily shoved out the door. I would not reccomend going back ever. I don't care for the customer service and stuffiness. Save yourself the trouble. read more
