Needed some alterations done on 4 sport coats. The reply through yelp was that they could do it in a one week turnaround. 2 were done in three weeks and the remaining 2 in seven weeks. The work was good, but extremely expensive for the alterations needed. The store is a small store but carries high quality suits, sport coats and shirts, but again at very high prices. If I was still working, I would probably shop for some. As I am retired, I only needed some alterations for a few sport coats for casual use. I do not plan to use them for that again, however I may buy some of their merchandise if the need arise. read more

I took my beloved irreplaceable old leather jacket to the St. Charles Tailor, Needle and Thread for repair. The gentleman there examined it carefully and talked about a few options, referred me to a leather shop where I could purchase the needed extra material, and then I brought him the jacket and the leather. Brought in a brand new Giorgio brato sheering sheapskin reversible coat that needed to be altered. I took it to Neiman and they wouldn't touch it, they told me I need to go to someone that works with leather. Brought the coat over to tailor and He told me it would be about a month and to come back then. I did and I was very pleased with the result. Thank you again for taking care of the alterations. I brought flare jeans that were 8 inches too long in to shorten. Because I know that unlike straight or skinny jeans, flares are hard to hem, I didn't expect much. They came out perfectly and you can't tell this isn't the original stitching. My husband will go nowhere else for his suits and shirts, which always come out exactly right. read more

I had a very poor experience, especially given the exorbitant price. My bridesmaid dress had a triangle cut out in the back approx 3"x3"x5" and after alterations, it was less than an inch on each side. During the final try on I pointed this out & was told it had to be done to take the dress in. However, a fellow bridesmaid ordered the same size as me and has a smaller frame yet the size of her opening did not change. I was very disappointed during the final try on & noted that the dress design was completely different than when I gave it to him. He was not sympathetic and did not offer to fix it. Furthermore, the bride is very upset her bridesmaids dresses will now be different. Very disappointed in my choice, I will never return or recommend their service. I paid $190 for the dress to be shortened a bit & taken in. The navy dress was tried on in the boutique & the green dress was the outcome following alterations. Update 7/26: Following a conversation over the phone about my dissatisfaction in the work performed, I brought the dress in to discuss being reimbursed partially or fully. I spoke with the owners son who started by saying he could fix the mishap. Since the event already happened, I preferred reimbursement. I was told that wasn't possible because of how the dress had to be taken in. The owners son was incredibly rude, spoke over me multiple times in the 3 minute conversation, and he ended by declining any further conversation about the dress. I am even further disappointed with their customer service and quality of work. read more

I had heard the shop at Woodfield Mall did great work, so I was excited to see they opened a store sort of near us in St Charles. I brought in a coat, pants and a vest with a lining issue. The work on shortening the wool coat sleeves was perfect (heavy material and a nice lining). I didn't even try on the pants there, hoping they were fine when I got home...perfect length! They were very honest about repairing the lining on the vest...that it would be very involved and would end up paying more for repair than the vest was worth. I appreciated that candor. Overpriced for what you get. Always looking to upsell. Had an old jacket taken in having lost weight. After trying on post alterations still didn't fit well. Tailor's response was that jacket wasn't worth fixing up further - of course I had already paid $90 for the work done - complete rip off. Proceed with caution- These people will give your clothing away. Let me paint a scenario for you: Let's say you drop off a dozen suits for alteration. You come back to test fit everything, half their alterations are done incorrectly, they tell you they will re-do everything, but it will take a month- they'll call you when they're done. You pay for the suits you picked-up, and pay half down on the alterations they're re-doing. You go back to living your life, forgetting they have several of your suits. You have a black tie event come up, then realize your tuxedo is nowhere to be found. You call Tailor Needle & Thread when you realize they still have your garments. They tell you they gave your suits away to Goodwill, and that there's a disclaimer on their wall about when you're supposed to pick your things up (although at the time of this review, no such disclaimer could be found in the store, nor is there one on the pick-up tickets you have for your garments). They never called you when the suits were ready. You basically just PAID them to alter your suits to your specification, then give them away to Goodwill. Congratulations, you were just F'ed. You go out and buy new suits. read more

By far the best dress alteration I've ever had done! Had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be taken in an entire size and hemmed and was on a time crunch with only a week to get it done. I had him tailor a few of my shirts and he did a very bad job. He tailored my shirts way too short. I spent $75 on the shirts and now the shirts are useless and too short. I asked him to shorten it but he overdid it and shorten it to much. When I brought it to his attention, they tailor was very rude and disrespectful and refused to give me a refund. He was also sarcastic as well. He was very unprofessional and the work he did on my shirt was horrible. Stay away from these guys, they'll mess up your clothes and not give you a refund. read more

Moving from Chicago to St Charles 10 years ago was a culture shock on many levels. A dependable skilled tailor was one of the services I took for granted in Chicago and until I found Tailor Needle & Thread have been unable to find in the Fix Valley area. I recently brought a new suit and 3 new sport coats to TN&T for alterations. My suits and sport coats always require fairly extensive alterations. I picked up my altered goods today and they are perfect. Working with Zim was a pleasure. He took plenty of time with me to make sure he understood my expectations and he delivered. I have seen other feedback saying that TN&T is expensive. I disagree. My grandfather was an Italian immigrant and an amazing tailor. I know a good tailor when I see one. My charges were very fair for the high quality tailoring and outstanding customer service delivered. An unexpected bonus was finding that TN&T also sells Jack Victor and Hickey Freeman menswear. The pricing for Jack Victor suits was very reasonable and includes alterations. I'm very thankful to have finally found a "Chicago quality" tailor in the Fox Valley. read more
