This little hidden gem is a bit out of the way if you don't know they exist, but what an amazing selection of beautiful fabrics. They also have a plethora of notions, books and patterns. The shop owner was terribly pleasant and offered assistance in a warm and welcoming way... that I don't see at other quilt stores. Off the beaten path but worth the drive if you are a fabric artist, seamstress or quilter. read more

As an elementary school teacher I wanted to step up my buliten board with some fabric background. I searched and found the Cotton Cupboard. I called and the person who answered was knowledgable and accomodating. I went to the shop and was overwhelmed with the thousands of patterns available. They quickly helped me narrow down my search and I was able to find patterns that were perfect for my classroom. I must say the customer service is of the highest level. Great little quilt shop! Love the selection of Art Gallery Fabrics. They have a unique way of shopping. Every bolt of fabric has fat quarters. You grab the fat quarter of your choice, so you're not carrying around bolts of fabric. The owner Jessica is incredibly helpful! She'll also ship fabric for a $5 flat rate, which I appreciate since I live in Alaska. Not all businesses are as savvy as Jessica. read more

I highly recommend The Cotton Cupboard for all your quilting needs! The owner is extremely helpful and in a non pushy way. She just wants to help you. My experience today, however, was renting the long arm machine for my first quilt top on a long arm. I was surprised with a large quilt sandwich for practicing - No Charge! It was WOF x 1 1/2 yards; top, bottom, and batting. Not only was the quilt sandwich complimentary - so was the practice time! I received excellent instructions from Ellie. She was patient and so knowledgeable about the machine. Once I put the machine bobbin in incorrectly and she could hear something was wrong and came to the rescue immediately. I can't recommend her patient instructions enough - you will need to see for yourself! The Cotton Cupboard is my favorite quilt store in the Austin area, and I wouldn't rent a long arm anywhere else. Score...best quilt shop and I've seen many. In Lakeway for a short time without my sewing machine. Jessica, the owner, allowed me to come into the shop for the day to put a binding on my quilt. The shop has an enormous assortment of fabrics and fat quarters to match, books, patterns, notions, ect.. She has a long arm that she rents out for use or will do it for you. I wanted to update my previous review of this incredible store. Owner Jessica as well as her staff are what make this gem of a store over the top special. The fact that they offer a fat quarter of every single fabric is almost unheard of, and so helpful when you're trying to put a dozen or more fabrics together for a quilt. They're simply geniuses at helping with complimentary colors as well as being able to answer virtually any questions about sewing in general. Terry, Jessica's other half, is a certified technician and can have your machine running smoother than it ever has and in a fraction of the time that it usually takes. Ellie is a professional quilter and a true artist with a long arm machine. Her results are stunning and worth the time it takes to get on her schedule. The fabrics that the Cotton Cupboard stocks are only the very best quality and make your efforts worthwhile. In looming at others reviews, I found myself giggling at a comment that the owner "wasn't a very nice lady". Seems more like a personal problem from my as well as all others experiences. Hmmm. Great store. Tons and tons of inventory, fabrics of all kinds, tools, accessories the walls are full of great ideas. I use their long arm quilting machine which I rent by the hour at a great price. Erica and her staff are extremely helpful and fun to hang around with. I'm looking forward to taking classes! I've been quilting for most of my life, and have visited fantastic quilt shops all over the country. Since moving to Austin, I've generally been dissatisfied with the quilt shops around here. Thankfully, The Cotton Cupboard seems to have a different approach to customer service & product selection than other shops in the area. For that, I am thankful! The Cotton Cupboard carries a wide variety of quality cotton fabrics, including tons of solids, a great assortment of batiks, modern prints, juvenile prints, and retro/30s prints. They also carry lots of quality tools & notions, enough patterns/books, and also supplies for working with wool/etc. Their prices are on-par with most other shops around here I appreciate that they carry many different styles of fabric, instead of just presuming their customers all want modern prints, or all want batiks, or whatever. I just wish they carried more pre-cut sets (like charm squares), but I like that they seem to have fat quarters cut from every fabric in the store. The staff is always friendly. I don't think they remember my name, but from my 2nd visit on, they've at least recalled my face. It's nice to be greeted warmly and be seen as a member of a community instead of just a revenue source. I've never heard the staff talking bad about other customers (something that is far too common at other local quilt shops). Instead, they seem genuinely friendly & helpful. I've taken some classes at the shop, too. The teachers are qualified, helpful, and nice. The shop has a longarm quilting machine available to rent, though I've never tried it. read more

I was so happy to find someplace to have my 1940's straight stitch machine refurbished and repaired. The owner and her husband are very nice and I felt comfortable leaving my old friend with them. Yesterday I picked up my machine and I just did some sewing on it. What a thrill to have it zip along, quietly and safely. I was given an update while they had my machine and my approval was asked for for a bit of additional work it required. I did a self guided tour to see the fabrics and they are impressive. Am not a quilter but any seamstress is impressed with fine fabrics. read more

This quilt shop is such a treasure! The owner and employees are super friendly and helpful. After my first visit they remembered my name and that I lug the bolts around with me while I compare and preview color and pattern combinations. If I can't find something I have simply to ask and they show me exactly what I want, but otherwise let me explore. I am so pleased to have found them and they are my favorite shop. My review of the Cotton Cupboard is based on the following 2 experiences: Several months ago, I bought a used sewing machine. Upon first attempted use I discovered that there was something wrong with it, and that it would need servicing. I looked for repair shops in my area, but couldn't find any. The Cotton Cupboard is about a 45 minute drive from me. They were polite and friendly, and seem to be a family operated business, which is near to my heart, (having I grown up in a family owned yarn shop). They were able to fix everything I asked, and for a VERY reasonable price. I was thrilled, seeing as the whole reason I got into sewing was for cost efficiency anyway. I have since thrown my machine out of time again, (boo...) and saw an ad in the paper for a local shop that does sewing machine repair. I had a TERRIBLE phone conversation in which the person on the other end of the line made all kinds of accusations about dishonesty of shops, etc., and claimed to want my long-term business rather than a quick buck. That's all well and fine, but I didn't have the ridiculous sum of money that she was asking for (which would have been more than I paid for the machine and initial repair combined) just to look at the machine. That experience helped me to fully appreciate how wonderful The Cotton Cupboard is, and you know what they say... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I apparently found a gem in the first place. Silly to try to go somewhere else. I'll happily make the 45 minute drive to see the sweet people at The Cotton Cupboard! read more

I am very pleased at my experience at the Cotton Cupboard today! I have been looking all over town for a particular jelly roll and couldn't find one anywhere. And Elly said, "no problem, I'll make you one!" MIND. BLOWN. Seriously?! No one ever does tiny cuts! She pulled out a ton of fabric just like the picture I had and made me a jelly roll right then and there, no complaints. I will definitely come back. read more

We're from Round Rock, TX. In our opinion the best quilt shop EVER (and we've been to a LOT!) is The Cotton Cupboard ! Lots of material to choose from but the biggest plus is the owner, Jessica. Have been there many times (we were there today) and you can take an idea to her for a quilt and she will literally RUN through that store pulling bolts of material and fat quarters to make the perfect combination for the ideal quilt. We do buy things once in a while from other quilt shops but - if you want someone that gives you personalized service to turn your idea into perfection - Jessica is the one to go to !!!!!!!!!!!!! We stopped in on a lark and it has ended up being my favorite quilt and fabric shop ever. So disappointed that I live 1200 miles from this store, but I will be sure to stop in again on my next trip to the Austin area. Jessica, the owner, and her daughter, Elly, were warm and friendly. They gave me useful sewing tips I hadn't heard of before when I asked them some questions about my machine. The fabric collection is amazing! I live in Chicago and still haven't found a store with the same quantity and quality of cool fabric. Off the top of my head, I remember they had Cotton + Steel, Moda, Amy Butler, batiks, some reproduction, cool knits, and more! Three of us came in the store to browse and all three of us left with bags of goodies. Can't wait to go back! read more

Although it's not located close to me, I am willing to travel the distance because of the quality shop that Cotton Cupboard is. Very well stocked with fabric, kits, sewing accessories, etc. And as another reviewer commented on, the variety of fabric is refreshing and there is truly something for everyone's taste. Family run - these folks work hard! Their shop is lovely and their commitment to patron satisfaction and enjoyment is apparent. SO attentive - they almost anticipate your every need and question and they never make you feel you are a "bother". And this is one of the complaints I have of a couple of the Austin shops where one feels a bit intimidated when in their store. Not Cotton Cupboard - there is a happy and upbeat feel! There is a basic longarm machine that is available for training and renting. Jessica's prices are the best I have found where the longarm is concerned. She and her daughter have shown me and my friends great patience and encouragement while we are in the learning process. She is available every step of the way and doesn't ever seem to be bothered by our "calls for help"! Classes are offered - I plan on enrolling for some of those soon. read more
