I recently visited the Cottonwood Room and came away underwhelmed. The space itself is nice, and the tree at the center of the bar is genuinely cool--but if you're seated off to the side, that focal point doesn't really translate into the overall vibe. Drinks are expensive for what you get. I tried their premium old-fashioned, and honestly, it was no better than a standard old-fashioned elsewhere. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing memorable--certainly not at that price point. Service was slow, which was surprising given that it was a quiet night. On top of that, since the bar is in the hotel basement, there's no cell service. The Wi-Fi password I was given didn't work, which made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. I hate to disparage Cottonwood because I've had incredible experiences staying at the hotel, attending for events, and in the Orleans Room. But--I'd discourage going to this part of the hotel. After my experience from the first review, I called and had 2 separate conversations with the manager to try to rectify the situation. He sent the info to accounting and 2 months later, I still hadn't heard anything back. It was clear they didn't consider the situation important enough to look into, so that was really discouraging as an IHG hotels member and have spent a fair amount of money here over the past several years. read more

The Cottonwood Room bar at the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel is such a beautiful spot. We stopped in on a Saturday evening and were lucky to find seats at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and made us excellent drinks. The fun décor added to the overall atmosphere, and of course, the iconic tree in the middle of the bar was a delight to finally see in person. I highly recommend stopping in for a drink! I'm surprised they have kind of a limited cocktail and wine selection for a cocktail bar. But we did enjoy our Plush Horse drinks. It was tangy and sweet, and a decent amount served. Some of the drinks can be quite pricy. The service was not friendly. I felt like I was an inconvenience every time I went to the bar to order. We asked for waters as well and it seemed to be an annoyance. You do get to choose your own seats and order at the bar, which is all very pretty and glowy. Went here on a Friday night for drinks after dinner. We were staying in the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel, so it was very convenient for us. The ambiance is definitely very eye catching, it is dark moody vibe with beautiful illuminated tree in the center, along with a screen in the back. I had an off-menu dirty martini and was given the option of either regular or blue cheese olives. There's only one right answer here, obviously. I had such high hopes when my husband and I came to celebrate some good news recently. It was a Wednesday evening, the place was fairly empty, and there were two bartenders manning the bar. The service was fine, but not exceptional by any means. I got the Notorious F.I.G. and my husband and I shared a piece of the chocolate cake. To be honest, nothing really blew me away and everything seemed overpriced for what it was. The drink was very sweet and other than having a fig garnish, there wasn't a lot of that flavor in the cocktail itself. The chocolate cake was similarly disappointing. It was also very sweet and the frosting was actually a little gritty. The crunchy toppings were the best part of the cake, unfortunately. My husband and I are not ones to not finish dessert and we always take home leftovers, but we didn't finish this and had no desire to keep eating it or take it home. My husband didn't really want to drink alcohol this particular evening and there were some alcohol-free spirits on the menu, so he asked for some assistance/recommendations for a mocktail from the bartender. I appreciate him being honest, but it wasn't a strong selling point for him to say that none of those spirits were particularly good and he didn't really have many recommendations. The aesthetics are very nice though and with a little more attention to the menu and the recipes, this would be such a beautiful place to unwind with a drink and conversation. As it stands currently, though, this is probably not a bar we'll return to on our own accord. read more

A waste of time. First of all, I am local so for me to go I have to pay for parking. Not at all worth it. Second of all, we walked in and sat down at the bar and it started ok. The ambiance is chill and calming they took our order somewhat quickly but the rest of it was not. Third, the clientele is HORRIBLE! I was called a bitch when some random drunk patron was harassing my friend and I said to stop. The same person was clearly drunk, being fed shots, and the shorter Hispanic female bartender was trying to get with him. They were sitting at the edge of the bar flirting and we watch him had her a hotel key. Could have easily have gotten her fired the night we were there. All of the bartenders disappeared for an extended period of time where we asked some girl filling up ice where they went and she said well I am one can I help you and we had to ask for refills with empty drinks sitting in front of us. The drinks were average and the whole experience was a waste. I definitely understand some of the reviews that talk about the judgmental attitudes. Hidden in the basement of the hotel is a nice little cozy spot where you can grab a drink or have a meal. We grabbed a spot at the bar and Justin & Alex took great care of us. From making suggestions to making sure all of our needs were being met. I ordered the Miss Jacky and I was pleased with the drink. I also got the Halibut and I don't usually order fish because I don't like "fishy fish" however this was delicious and I enjoyed every bite. The folks I was with enjoyed their steak and scallops as well as the truffle fries. We ordered the cheesecake and I will say it wasn't what I was expecting and didn't really live up to what I had hoped for from what was described. It was good but I can't say I'd order it again. This bar is a whole experience! It has so much history, and it is a whole vibe. Our waiter Alex was great, he answered all our questions about the food and drink options. I ended up with the white cosmo and old-fashioned both were so good. I had the scallops, and they were cooked to perfection. I also had some of the truffle fries and cheesecake. After multiple social media paid advertisements about the orgiins of the Rueben sandwich at the Cottonwood Kimpton Blackstone Hotel in Omaha, I finally made the plunge. It was hard to believe that I had never heard of this "claim to fame" or stepped inside the historic Blackstone Hotel being originally from Omaha. While the hotel is beautiful, the random Monday lunch seemed to be a miss. The soups were homemande and delicious. The single staff server was busy, when they weren't that busy. The ham gruyere sandwich was mismatched from the menu, minus the correct description of belonging on a croissant. Instead it was served on a "bun" without a reason or notice. Then we move on to the infamous beginings of the Reuben sandwich. I ordered a "single." It was so amazingly average you could have probably ordered the same sandwich anywhere in Omaha (or Council Bluffs) and had the same experience. The bread seemed like it arrived stale from "Sysco" or "US FOODS" last Friday. On to the fries. They were simply inpalitable. It was as if you took US FOODS frozen, seasoned, french fries, threw them in the grease and then rolled them in Kosher salt. It did come with an array of sauces, but nothing could take the scald from my mouth after eating three of them. This might have affected the taste, or lack there of, of the classic reuben that they are famous for. I literally left the bread after taking two bites. In summary, it's a beautful property that presented subpar food. Skip the food, go to the bar for happy hour and go someonewhere else to eat. Incidentally, I had desires to stay at the property, but outside of the friendly valet staff, everyone else seemed very dissatisifed working there. We ordered the shrimp pow pow, the shrimp were lightly breaded giants with a beautiful flavor profile of veggies and sauce surrounding them. I met a friend for drinks here and immediately love the ambiance. The tree is obviously the showstopper, but the wall with the changing scenery is so cool. The Cottonwood Hotel is my favorite hotel in Omaha. It is stunning. The Cottonwood Room draws you in with the faux cottonwood tree in the center and emerald green accents throughout. I appreciate any business that works to maintain historical elements of an older builder and Cottonwood does just that. During a late night visit we enjoyed some espresso martinis, and Old Fashioned an a couple of bar snacks (truffle popcorn and nuts). All were amazing. I highly recommend a visit. read more

Happy, quick, attentive, got our orders right the first time every time, everything you want for excellent service. Highest praise for her! And tonight Brandon has been excellent too. Lots of creativity with drinks and keeping our glasses full too. Unfortunately other servers have often seemed either too busy and/ or too inattentive. Not sure what the deal is - crush of weekend customers, maybe? In fairness, when we ask for attention we usually get it but part of sitting at a bar is wanting to have someone looking out for you, paying attention to you and your possible next drink, your potentially empty glass of water, etc. We really want it to be great because the ambience and potential here are amazing! It's got all the right ingredients to be a top-shelf drinks destination. But you just can't reach that level without consistently excellent service. It finally opened and it's well worth the wait. Watch out midtown; The Cottonwood Room is a force to be reckoned with! The vintage building once heralded as the Blackstone, oozes with history. Located in the basement of the Cottonwood Hotel, the Cottonwood Room has the feel of a speakeasy, but it's not. Celebrity black and white pics adorn the hallway wall which add to the historic charm of the space. Pick from the 360 degree seating at the bar or a more intimate setting with cozy chairs and tables in a more dimly lit area. I had the Tattletale cocktail from the "New School" menu made with a smokey whisky. I also went "Old School" and ordered a Manhattan. Both were fabulous! They were out of so many things by 7PM And one menu item they 'hadn't finished prepping yet' at 7PM. You're better than this Cottonwood! Please get it together!
