I don't really go by reviews, everyone deserves a shot... so we came here... but we were very disappointed by the food and service... not friendly at all as all the reviews say and NO "we don't need mommy to cut our food and serve it to us" lol but going out to eat should be a nice experience all together and yes service is extremely important! The potatoes were not flavorful, the bacon wasn't extra crispy how I ordered it... my husband's English muffin was flattened and soggy so he didn't eat it, only the eggs in the "sandwich", the coffee was watered down... While I really don't like reviewing a place after only one visit, I want to combat some of the other negative things I've read as I think they have either took notice of the bad reviews and corrected the issues or simply have had turnover within the restaurant to get rid of the bad apples. Serendipity brought us here on a rainy Saturday morning. Another local breakfast haunt had a line out the door and a half hour wait, so we decided to jet up Rt. 38 to the next place we could find via Yelp. I didn't read any reviews, all it took was one picture of a waffle to convince me this was a place to at least try. We parked right next to the door in the cold rain, entered (WATCH YOUR STEP! Yah, I still tripped) and were quickly offered the last table in the restaurant. Our service experience was much better than others I've read, we got our diner-style coffee within a minute of sitting down and I felt like she somewhat noticed this may have been our first time there and let us take our time with the menu. They were also willing to make us a half cranberry/half orange juice without issue. I decided to try a little of everything to get a good sense of what they offered so I ordered the Breakfast Combo with ham, sourdough toast with blueberry pancakes added. A breakfast visit can turn bad very fast but all of my items were perfect. The scrambled eggs were as fluffy as the pancakes, the toast was made just right and the ham was massive and very sweet. My other half decided on just a grilled muffin which may have been a little more disappointing, the presentation should have shown the grilled side up and I wish it wasn't as crumbly overall. But out of 7-8 items in total, this was the only one that we weren't a huge fan of. We were in and out within a half hour and bonus to taking credit cards. It still gets busy, I don't know if there was ever a wait but turnover was so fast that they move people through very quickly. It's all table service, no counter or anything like that. It was a really good experience and we will keep this in the breakfast-bank for future reference. read more

Service was nonexistent. Server gave us wrong beverages, spilled juice and coffee,then gave US a dirty look for asking to get our actual order. Blueberry pancakes were awful. Server was much more interested in blabbing about politics, sitting in the booth next to us with her friends, and insulting those who don't agree with her conservative views, than providing decent service. It's a free country, but why insulting paying customers? She then went behind the counter to watch videos on her phone and after 10 minutes we had to go up there to request our check. Disregard the "waitress is bitchy" comments who are upset because their mommy isn't there to cut their food up for them. She's not some young kid. She's a diner waitress who works hard and does her job well. No, she's not perky or bubbly like in some freaking TV commercial. Think Jersey diner and you got it. I've been going there for several years and neither know her name nor care. (BTW, I went last weekend and she was supplemented by two more waitresses.) I go here pretty regularly and always tip her 20%. Again, ignore the whiny little babies. Let the Karens go to IHOP or someplace where they can be pampered to. Concentrate on the breakfast which is uniformly excellent. (Although that said, the pancakes are good, not great.) I typically get something very typical like sunny-side-up eggs and either sausage or corned beef hash. Or failing that, an omelet. Opened the door to a warm greeting. We could pick a seat anywhere. So if you want to be by the TV, door, kitchen, or along the back wall you are set. Once we sat down the waitress came over with 1 cups of hot coffee just in case we wanted some. The pumpkin pancake taste like pumpkin pie. You get a generous portion of eggs for sure. I ignored the multiple yelp reviews mentioning the rude waitress who ruined people's meals, wanting to give the place the benefit of the doubt. However, she is just as bad as the other reviews say she is. There was only 1 other person in the restaurant with us and the entire time we were there she spent talking politics and complaining with him- regardless of what her views are, it was inappropriate to be sharing them that loudly and while others were just trying to enjoy time out to breakfast. At one point she made an attempt to stop herself pointing us out and saying we are probably liberal so she should stop taking and the other patron encouraged her to keep going saying that the more she shared her views the more she would attract the "kind of people she'd want at the restaurant". A fine choice for brekkie in the Valley, Country Chef has roughly 15-20 booths/tables in a casual cafe setting. Menu will not blow your tastebuds with creativity, but they will be pleased with classic fare cooked well with good flavor. A decent variety menu selection, reasonable prices, Real Syrup in a bottle on the table (as opposed to tear-open packets or having to pay extra for actual maple syrup, as many cafes have begun horrifically to do). Blueberry pancakes were chock full of Maine blueberries and flavor, homemade Belgian waffle was perfectly done, and make-your-own omelette of broccoli, swiss and sauteed garlic were all excellent. "New England Friendly" service (translation: grudgingly friendly at first but warming up the longer you are there). ;-) Ambiance/Decor isn't exactly country or particularly charming, but it's clean and cozy and kid-friendly, with good food served fast and well. read more

Horrible service the whole time and when it came to the check she decided it was time to reprimand my friend and I for not asking to split the check when we got there, which I totally understand how annoying that is and I apologized three times. She said she won't split the check for us. I couldn't read the check, because it was written by her(not typed in a system that would take time to re-enter) and when I asked what her scribbles meant she rolled her eyes and told us what she wrote. Thanks to the guest who said something before she took their order. A party of two is just as valuable as four. Unfortunately didn't listen when taking order and raised her voice in disbelief when she brought the food and I said that I didn't order wheat toast and asked no potato. Allergies aside, I'm the customer and I have a voice. Atmosphere doesn't make up for it. It's a small, quiet room that everyone can here everyone else. I usually like this place but this morning was unpleasant. The food overall was good but the service of our waitress is why I'm writing this review. First of all, my wife has a gluten allergy and specified that in her order. She asked for no toast. She is also pregnant so she can't eat feta cheese (I guess it's one of the worst things you could eat while pregnant) so she said no feta. When we got our food, toast was piled on her omelette. When we asked for another omelette, our waitress looked confused and irritated but she brought out another omelette right away that was meant for someone else but apparently it was the same omelette. The inside was loaded with feta cheese. I called the waitress over again explaining my wife is pregnant and how she can't eat feta cheese. I tried to explain in a way that wouldn't get this woman too upset. I said "I'm sorry if I'm being a pain in the a** but".....and then went on to explain the feta cheese thing hoping she would understand that we wish we didn't have to keep calling her over but we had no choice....she just grabbed the plate and walked away. Nothing close to an apology or anything. We finally get correct orders and she gives my wife a box to wrap her food up. We waited awhile for our bill but before I could even see it, she took my credit card. I asked if I could see my bill but she said she'd show it to me after she ran my card and walked away She just seemed very unpleasant throughout the entire experience. Extremely Solid Brunch/Lunch place. These folks aren't reinventing the wheel here, but what they do is first rate. Pancakes? Awesome. Home Fries? Fantastic. The Bacon? Scrumdiddlyumptious. This is the place for your classic brunch foods. I've noticed a fair amount of breakfast places are cheaping out on their bacon. You think you're gonna get some flavor crisp bacon and out comes these bland, paper thin, strips of something masquerading as bacon. Not this place. Their bacon has flavor. And, while I'm sure many of you could care less about this, I was thrilled to discover they offer OJ without pulp. I'll be back for sure. read more

The good: coffee arrives quickly; they have a great selection of breakfast items.; the omelets are huge, fluffy, and tasty, with home fries and toast; prices for most egg dishes priced under $8. Went there this morning with my daughter. A small place but cozy seemed like a lot of regulars. Ate here this morning. Ordered decaf coffee with my meal. I order decaf when I occasionally have coffee because full caffeine creates heart arrhythmia and inability to sleep. Well, after the waitress poured my husband and nephew their caf coffee, she went back to the station and I observed her pour remaining caf into decaf carafe and start a new pot of caf to brew. Guess what? Yep to both for me. 1 am and I am still awake...I was there at noon. Watch carefully...saving a buck for the restaurant can cause a customer some major issues! I won't be back. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Once in a while I will come here on a weekend for breakfast. Depends on how busy it is sometimes you'll have to wait for few minutes, but other than that this place rocks! I get an omelet there. You can create your own, or you can choose one from the menu. It's up to you. It comes with home fries and toast - wheat or white. The fries are really delicious - real red potatoes with the skin, soft and with spices, but not hot spicy. The coffee is good also. The table has all you need for your breakfast, so you don't have to ask and wait until they get it to you - maple syrup, half and half, sugar, sweeteners, jam (different flavors), ketchup, salt, pepper. And the other best part is, that it's not that big of a wait time until your food arrives. If you're passing by Wilmington and you like eggs, pancakes, etc., you have to check this place out. read more

This is a very quaint breakfast spot in Wilmington just passed Rocco's and the shopping plaza. There'es plenty of parking and seating; I've never had to wait here on weekend mornings when most other breakfest places are packed. This is another spectacular breakfast/brunch place that we have had the pleasure to eat at. It's small, cozy and has great eats. The service is great and the staff is friendly. The big win is that fact that they have a variety of creamers for your coffee (which is pretty darn great). The food is solid. There are a lot of great choices and while I want to try more of their items, I keep going to back to their steak and eggs, WHICH IS AWESOME.
