    Mmm. Pancakes....

I don't live near Wilmington but we wound up in this restaurant because a friend has some art on exhibit there. This is a neighborhood gem--good plentiful food, fast service, pleasant staff. No reservations and this is clearly a popular place but we didn't have to wait long at 11:30am on a Tuesday during Christmas week for a table for 3. Be forewarned, the portions are HUGE. I took home most of my pancakes and sausage and I swear I ate off it for three-four subsequent meals. The pancakes could be ordered with all sorts of add-ons (bananas, fruit, even m&m's I think) but I got them plain and they were fluffy and tasty. The sausage links were cooked to perfection. One companion got a BLT sandwich that he enjoyed and the other got tuna on a bed of lettuce. There was too much lettuce for her I think but she liked the tuna. Oh, and my friend's art is fantastic! I think it'll be there another few months and we are planning a return in February.

My new favorite breakfast spot. Great food, portions are amazing and the customer service is great. Love the vibe in here. Fair prices too.

A great American restaurant that serves breakfast all day long! All your favorite breakfast items, big portions and reasonably priced. This was a total random stop for my wife and I. I will definitely go here again!!

We have been dying to find a replacement breakfast spot for all of those great ones we have lost over the last several years in the surrounding towns. Alas, this one just came out as "average" in the end. The restaurant itself is rather large, with many booths available. Some are "hidden" around the back corner which once you see them, makes the place look a lot larger. They also have a bar type area where the waitstaff gets drinks from. Much of the food was just underwhelming. The French toast we ordered was undercooked and not very flavorful. The kid's menu was super confusing on how to order or what things were included. Too many "or this" sentences. Seriously, it's like 3-4 lines of that kind of language. They say they make muffins on site, but there were only about three flavors to choose from and this was 9 AM. They could also do a better job displaying them. Can you get them grilled? I didn't ask but also didn't see it listed. The interactions with our waitress were a bit odd. We would make requests and she would attempt to talk us out of them with no rhyme or reason. I can't think of another time I've really ever experienced that in a sit down restaurant. In the men's bathroom, the urinal was all taped up and closed off. It was a bit bizarre. Look, it's serviceable and there isn't anything really wrong with it. It'll become the go-to place from the townies again. Given that the owner who once owned the location throws the previous owner fully under the bus right there on the menu, they still need to rise up a tad bit more to the upper echelon of north shore brekkie.

Well done cheeseburger with tots, and some onion rings I stole from my husband's plate.

My husband and I were in the area for a home show and decided to grab lunch. The Real McCoy came up on the map so we decided to give it a shot. It looked quite busy in the parking lot, but we were seated right away. The waitress was attentive and our food wasn't too much of a wait... maybe 10 minutes or so. My burger was cooked as it ordered it, and it's the perfect grill burger. Not too greasy, nice and juicy, and has a bit of the crispy outside that I like. The tots were great but the real star of the show were the onion rings. Thick, light and crisp... they were heavenly. I'm glad my husband ordered them, else I never would have known. If you like onion rings, I recommend these. Our waitress checked in several times and kept on top of our soda refills. Great service and meal... I'd come back!

First off, let me say that I am a fan of Mike McCoy. His old place, Michael's Place, was fantastic and when he sold, I went back one more time and quickly realized that it was not the same. I was so happy to hear that he was back at the same address and that he was serving lunch! His chicken is some of the best I have ever had! Ok, back on task! I visited this day for breakfast. I went with my son on a cool Fall Saturday about 10am. The building is still the same with some of the tidying up they did after the site was closed for some time. There are plenty of 2 person tables and several booths with a bar in the front of the restaurant. The kitchen is in the same spot (off the left as your enter) and there is plenty of room for everyone. Upon arrival, we were quickly seated at a clean table. We were given breakfast menu's and asked what we wanted to drink. We were both excited to put our orders in and to see how good the food was! We had pancakes, french toast, bacon, english muffin and home fries. I had a large milk and my son ordered a coffee. The time that it took for the food to come was average. It was a busy morning so we understood the wait. As we looked around, we noticed that there were several tv's on the wall. We were hoping that that was a sign that lunch and, soon, dinner would be served at McCoys! We will see! Our food arrived and it was delicious. Plenty of everything! The bacon was perfect, home fries cooked just right and my son loved the Pancakes! Plenty of syrup, which is sometimes not the case in other breakfast locations that I have visited! We finished everything up and my son had a 2nd cup of coffee. A few things to consider: - plenty of parking - service was fantastic (plenty of staff) - price was fair - looks like they have a liquor license - they are open 6am to 2pm (serving breakfast and lunch) - Mike was on-site and working away in the kitchen! What a great addition for Wilmington. A solid restaurant with community ties is always a good thing! 5-stars

What are the hours at The Real McCoy?

7am-2pm... breakfast served all day and I believe 11-2 is lunch foods. Take out is available as well

Do they do take-out? The old Michael's Place did and I used to love going there.

I believe they do have takeout it's run by the old owner's of Michael's Danielle and her husband

I ordered a double char combo with fries and a drink, keeping all the toppings as they come. I always do this on a first visit to establish a baseline. The first red flag was how quickly the food came out--within seconds. If a burger is being cooked fresh, it simply can't be ready in under a minute. That's not the case at places like Shake Shack or Five Guys, where you actually wait for the burger to be cooked. This felt more in line with what you'd expect at a traditional fast-food chain like Burger King. Flavor-wise, the burger reminded me a lot of a Double Whopper with cheese, as both have that charred profile. Unfortunately, the Whopper is actually more flavorful--and bigger. The fries were completely average and forgettable. I ended up leaving half the burger and half the fries, which anyone who knows me will tell you is almost unheard of. Will I give it another shot? No chance. The food at Shake Shack is vastly superior, and surprisingly, the combo there is cheaper by over a dollar. The Habit combo came in just under $17, while the same combo at Shake Shack is under $16. The overall experience was also bland and cold. There's no real interaction--you order on a screen, the food appears, and you grab it from the counter. Even Shake Shack and Five Guys, despite being partially automated, still feel like there are actual people preparing your food. Bottom line: if you're considering Habit Burger, you're better off going to your nearest Shake Shack. And if it's that charred flavor you're after, you'd honestly be better served at Burger King.

Not completely inedible stale but clearly at least one-day-old bread. They shouldn't be passing this off to people but throwing it away. They know it's stale. They just don't care. It degrades the sandwich. There are other options so I won't be going back. If you're in the area, try Rizzo's, 5 minutes away on Church Street in Wilmington. Their roast beef is always outstanding and the bread is never, ever stale. Wilmington House of Pizza is good, too. Plus, frankly, their service is really slow. This is a place that has the words "roast beef" in their name and so you would think it would be quick. I swear they're going out back and slaughtering the cows. Plus they now add a surcharge on using a credit card. There is ZERO reason to go here.
