Lost 2 cats to them they dont know what they r doing cost alot of money and got 2 dead cats never again

My cat who never had a seizure had one while being examined. Maybe this practice is good for dogs not cats.

The Country Vet (especially Dr. Yates) has cared for our animals for 10 years now. They've welcomed & skillfully examined our newly adopted dogs; knowledgeably cared for them year after year; and compassionately helped many of them cross the Rainbow Bridge when the time came. This was the first place I brought my dogs when I moved to the area. I live in East Rochester now, but will always take my animals here!

The staff is great. The technicians are great and your experience will be highly dependent on which veterinarian you see. I've had a terrible experience with one of them as he has a very old school approach and does not really interact with the dog very much at all. I've had a positive experience with two of the others and so I always ask to see them. Much of this comes down to personality and style and communication, but I do expect a vet to try to at least greet your animal upon meeting them before prodding them and fully answering questions. I've been going here for years but one of my dogs is fearful and so I switch vets for this dog because he needs a lot more time and it seems like they don't have a lot of time to spend gaining a dogs confidence. For that, I go to Companion Animal hospital in Rochester. read more

First time around was great with my one dog. Second time however we took our second dog which is a pitt Dachshund mastiff in to get shots and he was still new to the vets office being only 9 months old. That being said he was a little scared and we were told to muzzle him and that "you NEED to bring him around more people because he is GOING to bite someone." Needless to say if your puppers has any amount of pitt dont bring them here because they discriminate and are clearly uneducated to the breed! Ps. He is used to several people and has a loving home but again just because he has an ounce of pitt in him he MUST be aggressive! What a joke read more

He will always be willing to gather all the facts in order to clearly understand the situation & I appreciate that integrity more than I can explain. We usually see Dr. Coover at the Country Vet and we cannot thank her enough. She's always thorough but kind with her exams. She answers all our questions and we've never had any issue at all with the care for our cats. Last year my family had to say goodbye to our 17 year old cat and the staff never judged us for how hard we were crying. They were wonderfully sympathetic the whole time. I won't take my pets anywhere else! The staff is very sweet and professional, and they take their time to explain everything very thoroughly. The office itself is very clean and even smells nice. I brought my dog into this vet on the recommendation from a friend, i will not be taking advice from them again. When i brought him in he had a large softball size growth on his "ankle" that appeared overnight, Dr. Yates assured me it was not a tumor and his ankle was just swollen. My dog was a large breed dog at 100 plus pounds, but he was able to get up and move at that point. A week later he injured his back. So after a day of not being able to get him to get up i brought him in again. this time he saw Dr. Coover, she hospitalized him and kept him overnight. He was up and about the next day and they called me to pick him up. When i picked him up he was up but moving rough, and at that time Dr. Yates spoke with me and told me that they took a sample from his ankle and it was a cancerous tumor. He was able to get up and go out for a few days, then unable again by the end of the week. Again we returned to the vet, they had me double the steroid they had prescribed, and finally prescribed pain meds. I was able to get him to get up with help for a few days but was not able to stay up for long and by the weekend he was lame again. when i called the vet office the receptionist brought up putting him down and seemed confused why the vet hadn't at least talked to me about it. I was also informed that they use an overdose of anesthetic to put him down and they let the humane society do the cremation, after spending almost a thousand dollars at the vet over the course of a month or so, they told me the best they could do was 130 for "cremation" plus the fee to put him down. I unfortunately know the humane society here doesn't do cremations any more due to costs of running, instead they buy space at the local land fill and as it doesn't really matter it does. I ended up bringing him to the vet that i should have brought him to in the first place and had them take care of him, btw they use neurotoxin and had a private company do the cremation at less of a cost none the less. I do not blame the country vet for my dogs condition or his inability of rehabilitating, but they misdiagnosed him in the first place and he was forced to suffer for longer than he should have, I get the feeling they are just about the money and not about the health or well being of your animal. I cannot recommend this vet to anyone. read more
