I struggled with whether to write this review, but I ultimately decided to share our experience. My brothers and I traveled from California to surprise our dad for his 80th birthday. During our visit, my dad insisted on taking the family to County Line, one of his favorite restaurants. We arrived as a party of nine and were seated promptly. Our waitress greeted us, brought our drinks, and began taking our orders. Our 16-year-old, who is a very light eater, initially asked to order the kids' all-you-can-eat meal. The waitress kindly explained that because she was over the age limit, she would need to order the adult price. We completely understood, and she chose a different entrée without any issue. Our youngest, however, is 12 years old and ordered the kids' all-you-can-eat meal. The waitress questioned his age, and I confirmed that he was 12. She finished taking our order, but I found myself scrolling through Facebook looking for photos that would verify his age. As It's not common practice for me to travel with birth certificates. A few moments later, the manager came to our table and told us that our son would need to pay the adult price because of his size. We again explained that he was 12 years old and met the age requirement listed on the menu. The manager responded that the kids' menu was intended for "little kids, not big guys." He said he would honor the children's price this time, but that if we returned, our son would need to order from the adult menu regardless of his age. That interaction immediately changed the atmosphere for our family. We had come together to celebrate a joyful milestone, and instead found ourselves feeling like we had to defend our son's age and justify our order. Unfortunately, throughout the remainder of our meal, we noticed the manager and members of the waitstaff repeatedly looking over at our table. Whether intended or not, it made us feel uncomfortable and as though we were being watched. The food was good, and our waitress was courteous throughout our visit. However, the way this situation was handled overshadowed what should have been a special family dinner celebrating our father's 80th birthday. I understand that restaurants sometimes encounter guests who attempt to misuse children's menus, and I appreciate the need to enforce policies. However, when a child clearly meets the posted age requirement, I hope future situations can be handled with a little more grace and discretion. It would allow families to enjoy their meal without feeling embarrassed or singled out. read more

Shout out to the person who complained the kitchen sings because I saw that and went "YEP! That's where we're going! I love a place that has fun at work!" And friends....this place lived up to every delicious note Valarie was our server and that bubbly gal treated us like long time friends as soon as we sat down. Seriously, if you can request her, you won't be sad! (ahem, and management, no matter what she's making....give that sweet gal a raise haha) She was training the very sweet and helpful Artie. I recently visited County Line in South Texas, and it was honestly one of the most satisfying dining experiences I've had in a long time. The barbecue was excellent--I ordered the brisket sandwich, and it was packed with flavor. This was one of those rare meals where I walked away with zero complaints about the food, the staff, or the environment. Everything just worked. The portion sizes are massive. One regular side of mac and cheese was enough to feed my brother, his wife, and their three kids--we were genuinely stunned. The ribs were enormous, like straight-up dino ribs, and full of flavor without being overwhelming. Every bite was rich and well-seasoned, but it didn't leave you feeling heavy or bloated--just craving more. I tried a mocktail that was basically a spicy virgin mojito: lemonade, cucumber, mint, and jalapeño. It tasted great, but fair warning--the jalapeño flavor is very raw and lingers for a long time. I love spicy food, but it did leave my tongue feeling a bit unpleasant afterward. I'd recommend getting it without the spicy element unless you're really into that kind of heat. That said, they offer beers, wines, and cocktails, and everything looked well put together. The atmosphere is beautiful--green, relaxed, and inviting. It looks like they even have a stage for live music. Parking is plentiful, and I'd recommend parking in the back for the easiest entry. Now, here's something unexpected but genuinely cool: the restroom. It was surprisingly clean and honestly worth checking out. It feels like a piece of history--almost like a restored relic from the late 1800s or early 1900s, as if they lifted it straight from an old county courthouse downtown. To top it off, they have a custom County Line trivia radio playing in the restroom, quizzing you while you take care of business. It was funny, creative, and totally memorable. The service went above and beyond. We were celebrating my brother's birthday, and the staff stored a full Chantilly cake for us, kept it cold, found candles, and even tracked down a lighter so we could celebrate properly. That kind of attention and care really stood out. I'm absolutely bringing friends here again, and I can already tell I'll be a loyal customer. We were a party of 21. Yvette was our waitress and she did a pretty good job considering that she had to wait on our party and other parties in her station. She did get a little snappy a few times. The decor was interesting as there was a lot to look at. Most of our party had senior plates or two meat plates. The portions of beef and pork were very small for the prices they charge. We finally went to this place we always see off the IH10 freeway. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy. They sat us down right away and everyone was really nice and helpful since it was our first time there. The menu was simple and easy to understand. Our server was always on top of things, making sure we had drinks and refills. The food came out hot and pretty quick. You definitely get a lot of food for your money, we all had leftovers. This place sits on the Riverwalk. Clean. On the other hand, they allowed a customer to enter with a dog that was not identified as a service animal. I love dogs but not in a public setting around others' food or possible allergy reactions could be triggered. Anyways, the barbecue was bland with salt and pepper for flavor. A very bland taste while using a spicy sauce to add flavor. I asked for Cajun seasoning but to no avail could the waitress offer me anything to enhance the taste. The pork ribs were barely braised with a charbroiled texture. Just smoked meat from a 15 minutes pit after taking it from the oven. The pork sausage link was OK. We went there for dinner after reading reviews and comparing other places in the area. I'm so glad we decided to go. The food was great and very plentiful. We still have enough for dinner tomorrow. It was pretty slow on a Monday night, but everyone went above and beyond to insure we had a great evening. As for the "loud kitchen" comments. The cooks were singing along with music and having a great time at their job. There's to much sullenness in the workplace these days. It was refreshing to hear them have fun. It was never loud enough to interfere with our conversation, and in fact a lot of times we had to strain to hear it. It's nice to go to a place that provides a positive work environment. There wasn't one thing that we ordered (party of four) that didn't taste like it had just been thawed out and microwaved, the bread tasted like a cheap store bought sandwich bread, and none of us was willing to have a second deviled egg that we ordered as an appetizer . Everything we ordered was so good! The pulled pork was different from what you'd normally get at other places but it was good! We also got sausage, chips and queso, coleslaw, brisket, and fries. 13 May 2023 I don't know why we went here today. There are so many other bbq places in SA now. Not so true some years ago. Anyway, the husband got the five meat plate. I, the lite two meat plate. His was full size, mine was maybe half size, but still plenty of food for me. The ribs are really pitiful, with not much meat on them, let alone fall off the bone. Nothing to fall off. Ha, ha. The beef rib was a bit gristly. Mac and cheese and Cole slaw were OK. My turkey and lean brisket was fine, as were the fried okra and green beans. It's just not the same anymore. My Server was friendly and very nice! The food however was disappointing!! I ordered the grilled salmon ceaser salad this evening to go. The salad had wilted leaves (see a sample photo). The salmon was overcooked and on the dry side. The side of bread was also not fresh and was very dry. My order was a take-out and I didn't realize the poor quality until I opened it for dinner, otherwise I would have returned it! For $17.99 plus tax and tip, the quality was poor. The side portions were generous. I tried the potato salad that was exceptional. We had the Mac and cheese, fried okra, and beans. All delicious. The bbq chicken was perfectly cooked, not dry at all. All meat choices we got were cooked perfectly with amazing taste. We were satisfied with everything we ate. The biggest surprise was how perfect the spicy jalapeño margarita was! My grubhub order of the County Line's Emergency BBQ with Beef Rib entree was absolutely awful! The beef rib came from sh*tty overcooked dry end of the slab. They knew it was sh*tty because they gave me another burnt piece. I gave that to my dog. Also there were small chunks of dry meat they attempted to pass off as turkey. Ambience-good. Service- attentive and pleasant. Food- subpar. This is TEXAS! Brisket should be EXCELLENT, but the brisket was terrible. Not okay, but terrible. I got the 3-meat plate consisting of brisket (paid the up charge for moist, 2nd-cut), turkey breast and sausage. The sausage was mediocre, would never order it again. They only offer one type, don't have jalapeño cheddar, which was a disappointment. The brisket peppered turkey breast was actually very good, nice and moist and flavorful. Back to the brisket- it was dry, and worst of all it was chewy. Like it had been left over from two days ago, and they just kept cutting on it and serving it. There was no bark, none. No fat, no flavor. Dry, chewy, flavorless brisket is not what a Texas barbecue restaurant should serve. Quite frankly, they should be embarrassed that that was the brisket they served. And if that was their premium quality cut, I shudder to think of how terrible the regular flat brisket would have been. County Line should be ashamed of themselves for what they served as brisket. The fried okra was fine, their coleslaw was absolutely swimming in mayonnaise, and I had to throw in the towel halfway through because I just didn't want to keep eating it. This is one of those Reviews that I want to be as detailed as possible. In order to do that I'm actually starting the Review at the Restaurant. So far so good. Firstly, Check in, in the Parking Lot. You get a Free Sausage Appetizer. Three House made Sausages that were very good and juicy. Service is provided by Tabatha, she knows her stuff. I lean heavily at times on Employees favorites and that has proven to be 98% accurate. First the sides. Mac and cheese 4/10. While creamy it screams not made in House made. The Garlic Mash would be better if I hook it up to an IV. I do love me some Garlic Mashed Potatoes. I had an opportunity to speak with the Manager who turns out is a Homeboy from Louisiana. The Brisket was ok. Not a lot of Smoke but nice Bark. Also, I ordered what they call the Second Cut which is supposed to be Fatty Brisket. I was told it was that but honestly, I still think it was Lean. All good, I'm still unbothered. Other Patrons there were nice enough to tell me what is going on Socially in San Antonio for the next several days. I'm not slamming them, especially when it's clear that they take Texas Pride in the BBQ and even I have an off day. I hope they don't mind me coming back because I plan to before I get out of here. I asked someone at my hotel about barbecue nearby and she mentioned County Line. When I went I brought my also visiting from out of town colleague here for lunch. Check in on Yelp, because you get a free sausage appetizer out of it which I gladly shared with my colleague. The sausage was pretty good, decent smoky flavor to it but if I were to pay for an appetizer I might have gone with something else. We were able to get the express lunch deal so I got the loaded baked potato with the brisket and I asked if they could do an Arnold Palmer since they had sweet tea and lemonade. Our server asked if I wanted pickles, onions or jalapenos and I said 'yes.' The plate came out the same time my spud did. It looks super loaded but the potato was on the smaller side, I've had larger baked potatoes from Wendy's. I'm glad I asked for the veggies, because it helped me beef up my potato and I'm definitely happy about the check-in deal. I think my meal might now have been enough otherwise. read more

If there could be negative stars this poor excuse for a barbecue would have negative 10. I stopped in around 8:30 PM for a cold beer and some good barbecue after a hard day of working on a house. I decided to sit at the bar so I can get a nice cold tall beer, And I ordered dinner which consisted of a half pound of brisket from the point, And macaroni and cheese. Initially the brisket looked okayBut it's consistency and bite was more like a undercooked tri-tip. By no means was this brisket cooked low and slow like it should be. The bartender said he was sorry and that they had been having problems all day because a handful of rib orders were returned. Went with high expectations from my memories of the one downtown. This one was definitely a mixed bag. One of us had the half rack of pork ribs. He really enjoyed it. The red skinned garlic potato's he said were definitely garlicky. Spouser had the chicken fried steak and said it was average. He was not a fan of the Mac and Cheese or the fries. I got the baked potato with brisket. The first one came out hard and seemed to not be fully cooked. They told me it had been overcooked?? Brought me a second one and it was not hot (when I went to add the butter, cheese etc that were brought on the side they did not melt) it was luke warm at best. I then just asked for the brisket. It had very little flavor and was tough to chew. Charged me for the full plate of brisket and didn't bring any sides with it. They did take the potato off the ticket. We also ordered a side of fried okra. They were great! The fried pickle appetizer was a winner too. They were spears. Our server was less than attentive. The two tables next to us had a very attentive server. So that was luck of the draw. Atmosphere was good.
