Great Soul Food Spot in Appleton, WI! To be honest I didn't expect to find soul food out this way but The Cozzy Corner was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance was awesome! They had old vinyls of Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, The Jackson 5, etc. all over the walls with music from that time playing. I ordered a Wings with Cajun Fries, Mac n Cheese, Corn Bread, & Kool-Aid to drink. Let me say first that everything I got was Really Good, but I can be a bit of Wings and Mac n Cheese "snob" lol. The wings were cooked perfectly in my opinion, my only wish is that the chicken or the breading was seasoned more; the hot sauce added some flavor - overall very good. The Mac n Cheese when I looked online looked oven baked as opposed to stove top made so that's what I was expecting, but when I tasted it the Mac n Cheese tasted like it was stove top to me. Like I said I'm a snob and prefer oven baked but It was still very good. The Kool-Aid and the Corn Bread were PHENOMENAL!!! I think they mixed a little lemonade in the Kool-Aid, idk and idc it was great! The cornbread was so good, moist and sweet, didn't need butter at all. The fries were really good too! Crispy and well seasoned. Overall I thought the food and my experience there was really great, I'll definitely be back. 10/10 would recommend! read more

This place has seen better days, the chicken and waffles are still worth coming here for, but the atmosphere is getting run down and classic Covid staffing make it better to carry out than dine in. An absolute gem. The food was AMAZING. I ordered the 2 meat plate. Cajun catfish, BBQ ribs, along with fried okra, red beans and rice, and corn bread. DELICIOUS! The owners are lovely, sociable, friendly people. As was the rest of the staff. My only disappointment is that I didn't find this place sooner in the past 4 or 5 times I've been in Appleton. Whoa! It's hard to believe this gem is in Appleton! Everything is spot on! The atmosphere, the flavor is oh so good! The mac n cheese is perfection. Cozzy Corner is my only experience with collard greens now I know what all the fuss is about! Amazing flavor with a bit of a kick. Catfish is crispy on the outside tender on the inside. This is all about the delivery! I have never went in to sit and eat, but have had them delivery many times. The fried chicken is delicious. The family portions they sell are very reasonably priced, large pieces, and delicious crispy skin. I have gotten it many times and only once have I ever had a complaint. It was hard and slightly burnt. It is usually perfect though, and the seasoning they use is better than anywhere else I have ever had. Over-all the delivery is quick, the portions are great, and the price is very reasonable! Definitely recommend if you are feeding a group and want to get fried chicken. read more

I have introduced 3 people to the Cozzy Corner since I first went there. One loved the music, mostly soul. One loved the Fried Chicken. One really liked the Pulled Pork. I stick with the Ribs. What a range of food, delivered cafeteria style. The sweet tea is very good, as is the corn muffin, which are both staples in my diet. There is even more I want to try. In Appleton, we just don't know Southern cooking. I am so glad that the attentive, gracious servers at Cozzy Corner do. Great music, comfortable seating in booths. Was in Appleton for two nights on business and didn't want to waste time eating restaurant food. Used yelp to find this gem just a few blocks walking distance form the Radisson Hotel and I was so glad I tried it out. I walked in and was greeted by the sweetest cashier/server. She was helpful and friendly and you can tell she enjoys what she does. The decor is cute, very diner-esque complete with old records and motown rocking. With so many choices on the menu I had a hard time choosing. I finally decided and got my old standby of fried chicken with red beans and rice and a side of corn. All of the meals come with tasty cornbread too. Living in California it's hard to get legit soul food but this place really met the mark. The chicken was awesome and tasted just like my Grandma's used to, crispy and juicy but not too greasy. I finished it off with a nice dessert of Banana pudding, complete with banana slices and nilla wafers. Sometimes I think I'm a southern girl born in the wrong state. When I treat myself to decadent comfort food, it better deliver lots of flavor. This place did not disappoint. The ribs were smoky and tender, and the pulled pork was nice and moist. The collard greens, mac and cheese, baked beans, and candied yams were very tasty as well. The peach cobbler had a rich, sweet crust with nice caramelization. The dining room is brightly decorated with music memorabilia, with classic Motown playing in the background. Service is cafeteria-style--I'd recommend waiting at the counter if there's a plate that you have to wait for--some of our fellow diners were forgotten when they waited it out in a booth. read more

I've tried to like this restaurant, as it's the only place to get soup food in the Fox Valley, but I just can't because it's been a consistent disappointment. I've eaten in-house several time and ordered online several times and in all instances service has been poor, the quality of food poor, and delivery times has been abysmal. In house it takes ages for a server to pay any attention to you. I've not waited in my seat no less than 20 min before being served, let alone to actually get to food I've ordered, which has taken up to an 1:45 *after* ordering. So that's over two hours from walking in the door. What makes that wait worse is that the food just isn't very good. Souther food is know for taste, yet this has little and has been overcooked and relatively flavorless. I'm not sure if they're just tossing green in a pot of water and calling it a day, it what they're offering wouldn't pass as acceptable in any southern home. Ordering from various delivery apps isn't any better. I made an order and just watched as minutes started getting added to the clock before it finally breached two hours before I said enough and made a "cancel order request". Hopefully someone with some entrepreneurial sport decided to give this monopoly some competition so their service and food quality goes up for it. read more

Seriously the best sweet tea I have ever had. I haven't had the opportunity to try "real" southern food so I have nothing to compare this experience to but, everything at The Cozzy Corner was delicious. The menu was a little hard to read because everything is jumbled together but once the chef/owner explained it, it was a little easier. My fried chicken was super moist and flavorful. My husband said his waffle had a bit too much syrup but was still delicious. Nicely decorated and prices were not too bad. read more

My family and I were looking for a Sunday night supper and decided to try Cozzy Corner, having intended to for some time. We shouldn't have waited so long. We arrived at 6:30 and saw they closed at 7:00. Though the staff graciously invited us to sit down, we opted to get our food to go so that they could close on time. While we waited for our food, they offered my wife some sweet tea to drink while she waited. She said it has ruined sweet tea for her from anywhere else. After about 20 minutes, as we were warned, we took full containers of freshly made food home. I had the Big Jess, a wonderful combination of a sausage on a bun topped with pulled pork, coleslaw, and barbecue sauce. I wouldn't have put this combination together, but I'm glad they did. The sauce was wonderful, the slaw fresh, the pork and sausage flavorful and moist. My wife and kids had the fried chicken. It was wonderful. The kids enjoyed their Mac n Cheese, but said "the chicken was even better." High praise indeed as my kids love Mac n Cheese. My wife's catfish was perfectly done, and her red beans and rice were full of flavor. We all are looking forward to returning soon and arriving early enough to enjoy the atmosphere as well! read more

I would give them a solid 4.5 stars. This was the best catfish I've had in a long time. It was moist and perfectly fried without being greasy. It had been cleaned really well with no muddy flavors you sometimes get. The fried chicken was the same, not greasy but juicy and flavorful. Garlic mashed were good with nice smooth gravy. The red beans and rice had sausage and a nice spicy heat. I actually would have liked just a little bit more rice but was still happy. The only thing that wasn't GREAT on the plate was the ribs. The texture and chew were right but not much smoke or heat. The sweet BBQ sauce just tasted bland after all the other wonderful flavors. read more

We enjoyed looking at the decor of the place while we waited for our food ... and we waited a pretty long time for our food. No check-in or updates from our server. Our beverages had been long drained when our food came and we could have used a refill. It's likely that the fried chicken takes additional time to prepare. I've encountered that other places. Usually the server or menu will tell you that though and as a stated before we would have gotten refills on our ice tea long before we able to get one. I'd still probably go back though and hope that we were just there on an off night. The food is good enough to try twice. read more

One waiter followed a football player OUTSIDE to get a picture with him instead of waiting on tables. Our waitress kept coming up with excuses of why our food was running behind. Wow! What a great surprise in Appleton!!! I didn't get my BBQ the last time I was in KC, but I sure made up for it here. Between the two of us, we had the ribs, pulled pork, and catfish. All three were delicious! I rate the catfish the best I've had yet (whatever seasoning is in the cornmeal coating...I hope they don't change it.). Baked beans & Mac & cheese are delicious as well. I would definitely stop again the next time we are in town. We intended to get their famous banana pudding, but they were out at the time. Frankly, I'm grateful, I was already to full. Best fried chicken I have EVER had! We came here while visiting Appleton and we weren't disappointed. They have huge portions so you best come hungry! Great prices and great staff. The inside is all filled with Motown and funk decor. They have all the oldies but goodies playing in the background which makes you wanna dance while you eat. The first thing I said to my husband when we left was, I'll be ordering that fried chicken for our next party! The lack of the one star is due to the dirty bathrooms. Always a turn off for me! Tried this place for the first time last night. Overall impression? Mostly ok. The service is very underwhelming. Not unpleasant, but they definitely don't extend themselves in any way. We got our menus fast enough, but that's it. After we ordered, it probably took 25 minutes to get our food. It was not busy, maybe 4 other tables of people in the place. No check in, no explanation of what was going on, nothing. However, once the food arrived, it was delicious. I had the chicken and waffles and it was on point. 3 pieces of perfectly fried chicken, over a well-spiced waffle, drizzled in syrup. Recently discovered this place. And all I have to say is YES. RIBS. CHICKEN. MASHED POTATOES. The first time I walked in getting lunch with a friend, I was sold. Feels good, tastes good, I now order it for pick up and will go out of my way to get it into my face. Just yum.
