The staff was also kindly let me pick dark meat, so keep in mind if you do have preferences. The other meat was pulled pork I chose. It was okay. I probably wouldn't order again. It has a bit of flavor but not enough to be impressive. I tried many BBQ places and some of the lighter tasted ones were light but wonderful. So I'd said theirs can be juicier and more flavorful. I picked baked beans and Cajun fries as my sides. Baked beans were excellent! As good as that friend chicken in my plate. Cajun fries tasted good in the beginning but unfortunately they became extremely rock hard after it sat for awhile. Recently moved here from Texas, so I was thrilled that there was a southern restaurant here in Appleton. We went on a Saturday afternoon between lunch and dinner time. I was disappointed that they didn't have chicken fried steak, ox tails or smothered pork chops being that it specializes in southern cooking. So I ordered the ribs, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. We were in for the Octoberfest car show with a group of 6 and it was getting late, late enough that the two of us showing cars were thinking we might have to just skip dinner because most of the restaurants had really long waits. We kind of stumbled upon The Cozzy Corner, walked in and they told us they could make it happen for our bigger group. The music is great, you can kind of just groove in the waiting area and grab yourself a beer from the fridge (that they can add to your bill when you pay), which made waiting a little bit no big deal. We met the owner, super nice guy, you can tell he's really proud of the food, his staff and his restaurant. He made his way through all the tables, I love to see that. When we got seated everyone was pretty much climbing meat mountain so I got to see what a lot of the food looked like. Personally I have the sausage, pulled pork with slaw, red beans and baked beans and tried the fried chicken. Everything was straight up awesome. I will be making this my regular Octoberfest stop. The flavors were all good, even in the bean side dishes. I feel like smoke shops/BBQ places can sometimes get by with just ok sides but these were banging. The beans had some real heat and didn't taste like they were from a can or had store bought sauce put in them. It was just great food, great environment with friendly staff at a great price. Fried chicken & catfish were both super salty. The cornbread that comes with the meal was more bread than corn. It tasted like a corn cake. I expected more from a place that specializes in soul food. When my food was brought out, the waitress forgot my fried chicken.. I was about to ask about it, but before I could, the chef came from the back and delivered it to me herself. She was such a sweetheart. The waitress never really came to check up on me, but she checked up on everyone else. I heard her offering another table some watermelon cake? Located off College Avenue, this small corner place is a gem that blends childhood memories of fried chicken and kool aid with southern flair. I started with watermelon kool aid, being somewhat fearful it wouldn't live up to memory, and it was tasty (but sweet). I prefer the kool aid to soda. I got the fried chicken and ribs with collard greens, beans and smoked chicken gumbo. The fried chicken and ribs were a solid choice. The chicken was crispy and moist. I liked that the chicken lacked that pumped up over-breaded quality that fast food chains have. The ribs were tender (but a little fatty) and lightly sauced. I used the house BBQ at the table for extra dipping. The collard greens were good and not bitter as they can be, but they could have used a little pork hock. The beans and cornbread were just okay. My absolute favorite side was the smoked chicken gumbo. I could have ordered the gumbo as a main course and been perfectly satisfied. The gumbo was hearty and full of smoked sausage and chicken that lent it a smoky, rather than spicy flavor. I ended with dessert, completely unnecessary, but I had to try the banana pudding. The pudding was in a container I later took home. The pudding was thick and full of sliced banana. There were nilla wafers in the pudding, but they were no longer crispy. I would have liked it better if the nilla wafers were added just before serving so they stayed crispy. Last, the atmosphere is relaxed and good for families (prices were decent too).
