0/10 It was freezing inside the English restaurant. Took 10 minutes before they brought over the drink menu. It took 1hr 30m for our food to come which I complained and was offered a free drink. Over the years the food and menu has gone down hill, the menu is tiny and has very little to offer. The only steak you can get is a flat iron which is already sliced for you. Sticky tables, sticky cocktail menu, hopeless but friendly cocktail waitress and warm martinis. Not the best start to the evening however, once in the restaurant, our waitress was top notch. She understood the menu and wine list and we were off. Dinner was going well until some loud gypsy looking individuals arrived and made the place too loud and obnoxious although hearing the main character order was entertaining. Apparently, they got a coupon to stay at the hotel and a reduced rate for the night. Arrived at 2.45pm to be told our room wouldn't be ready til 4pm as that's check in time, fair enough but we stayed in many 5 star hotels in London around the world and always managed to check in earlier, 4pm is ridiculous I believe they do this as they tell you to wait in the bar & then you buy drinks in the bar whilst you wait ! They take our luggage and put our suit carriers in a nearby cupboard & tell us that they will be taken to our room when ready. Fast forward to 4pm we check in to room 37, £400 a night - room is nice but impractical, dark & small - with slip bath & funky tap with water running from the ceiling. NO tea/coffee making facilities NO mini fridge NO windows NO actual drawers or real type of wardrobe to hang out clothes !! NO actual place to get ready and our bed was right by the door so we could hear everyone traipsing past our door. They had NOT delivered all our luggage to our room & we were left to track down my husbands suit jacket in a carrier, that's just the start of it .... Next husband birthday dinner which was so disappointing, the service was beyond APPALLING our waitress was something short of USELESS we were given a CRAP table on the end full of people with vouchers ?!!! it took 30 mins for her to remember our bottle of water & bread ! She seemed to forget everything!!! forgot my husbands starter too of cold duck which took over 35 mins to come for a cold dish that just needed plating up !! She tried to tell us it needed to be cooked fresh but it was a cold dish !!! She literally forgot our table all together, NO stand for champagne bucket so had to keep trying to get hold of a waiter for them to refill as there was NO room on the table to keep it there so champagne got took away ! continuously trying to flag down a waiter to refill your glass is annoying & definitely not 5 star service at all plus they all ignore you !!!! And then after an hour I'm told our mains will be coming out shortly and we received hot plates ready some 15 minutes later still NO food has come out and our hot plates are COLD At this point I'm sick of listening to the waitress say sorry for getting everything wrong. She tells me it's her mistake and she got it wrong !!! How can you get that wrong ?! Either the foods ready or it's not ?!!! Anyway after 1 hour and 20 mins our food finally arrives. The food is good (tomahawk steak & lobster to share )but the night is ruined and my husband whose birthdays meal this is has gone back to the room. What was supposed to be a luxury stress free meal just wasn't & quite probably the worse service I have ever received, staff clearly don't want to be there! And if you are understaffed don't take people with vouchers & look after guests first. Lots of tables around us weirdly had vouchers or groupon which is bizarre NO 5 star restaurant in the land does vouchers !!!! That really should tell you all you need to know & bizarrely these tables had food when we FULL PRICE PAYING HOTEL GUESTS did not !!!!! Service is NOT that of a 5 star hotel it is lacking in lots of areas and at best should be a 3 star hotel. We spent approx £800 here but could have gone to London and got a better experience. The bill was discounted for our inconvenience & service charge removed which was appreciated but really wasn't the point I just wanted my husband to have a great birthday experience & it just wasn't !!! Hosted a family lunch in the library for 32 adults and a few little ones. It was wonderful! We worked with Saanya to iron out all details before the event. She was very helpful, responded quickly, and gave me a complete breakdown beforehand, so there were no surprises. Vlad the server for our event was exceptional: polite, efficient, and checked in with me regularly to get my approval, and keep me updated on the order of things. All our guests were happy with the food, and the meat eaters gave rave reviews on that. I loved the salted caramel and valhrona dark chocolate sherbert. Kudos to Fabrizio the chef. I would be happy to hire all the staff I worked with. There were a couple of things I would mention that could be improved on. I was told we would have 2 servers for our event, but only had one. We did have lots of different servers help put out the meal ; but we only had Vlad exclusively for our party. Having said that, he did everything one person possibly could as mentioned above. We were seated at 4 tables of 8 and all the meat and fish entrees were served before the vegetables and yorkshire puddings were put on the table; consequently some folks meat was cool before they had the accompanying food. The tea and coffee which I would have liked served with desert was late, and some of the guests had left, but Vlad took that off the bill, which was appropriate. We look forward to returning to Crazy Bear in the future, and I will be recommending it to others, as will members of my family. From the fabulous decor with taxidermy a plenty, to delicious cocktails and a fabulous afternoon tea, this is a little corner of heaven where you can completely relax and indulge yourself in luxurious surroundings. Next time I visit I will be staying in the hotel, although if the rooms are as good as they look in the brochure, I may not ever leave!! read more

A great 'hidden' spot for something special, or a fancy high tea. Almost feels like dining with the mad hatters! A wonderfully eclectic array of decor from leather curtains to crystal chandeliers and Arabian style tents make for a fun dining experience. Generous portions and a good selection for the set menu. Make sure you visit the bathroom, but watch the angles as there's a lot of reflective surfaces in one space! Pay attention to the address as the building is unmarked, and be sure to book to avoid disappointment.. enjoy! read more

My boyfriend took me out for a surprise here and we loved it !! The place was so beautiful the pictures don't do it any justice. We stayed in Suite 40 and it was so pretty! The environment is so nice and chill. We ate at their Thai restaurant I loved it ! The food was absolutely delicious we had the seafood platter for two and the meat platter for two and they were both amazing! My wife and I we're bought a night bed and breakfast and evening meal by friends and family as my wife has a terminal brain tumor we we're due to stay on the 7th of August 2017 but the morning of our day my wife was really poorly which meant we were sadly unable to attend apart from not feeling well she was really upset too. So I wrang and spoke to the receptionest told her our situation and that she couldnt help us very per lightly. And to contact there feedback which is by email after several email I was constantly told they couldn't help all I want was to be able rearrange. But no they didn't show any compation what so ever. For a recent family celebration we decided to treat ourselves to an extravagant dinner at the Crazy Bear. There were 25 of us in total and we booked the private library dining area well in advance of our actual celebration. With the money we were about to spend in mind, a few family members had been in touch with one of the managers and had even paid visits to the restaurant to ensure everything was perfect and went right on the day. Upon arrival we were lead to an area next to the swimming pool where we could sit and order drinks whilst we waited for our dining room to be ready. The area was covered however was still exposed to the elements and proved not to be water proof when it began to rain and drips appeared everywhere. Once we had all arrived we were patient with the waiter that was taking our orders even though around half of our drinks took around 20-30mins to get to us after ordering them, the waiter told those of us that ordered cocktails that we shouldn't order them again as it was causing the delays. Considering this was a cocktail reception and the Crazy Bear had known well in advance there would be 25 of us, this is in my mind completely unacceptable. There was only one member of bar staff behind the bar, this was the reason for the delays. When you are paying £10 for a single spirit and mixer and even more for a cocktail, you do not expect to have to wait 30 minutes for your drink. Once seated in our dining area we were all still in a happy mood despite the hiccup with the drinks. This soon changed when drinks issues continued and the mood worsened even further when despite having a clear spreadsheet printed out for our waiter (notice I used the word "waiter", we only had one between 25 of us.) listing who had ordered what, people consistently were given the wrong food. The same scenario occurred during the main and dessert, the waiter began to shout out what he was carrying in the hope someone would claim the item he had on his plate. As the Crazy Bear had insisted we let them know the items everybody would be ordering a week before we arrived, many had forgotten what they had ordered leaving people to claim anything that they could in the hope they remembered correctly. Our waiter also served food across the table leaning over guests to reach the other side which was very professional. He was also very often nowhere to be found when people wanted to order drinks or would like their wine or water refilled. The blame shouldn't solely be on our waiter however, I feel the Crazy Bear were lackluster in allocating us one waiter for 25 people for a 3 course meal and drinks. With the money this place charges for such a meal, which is in the thousands, there should be at the very least 3 waiters allocated for the sole purpose of serving a party of this size. Even the quality of the food was poor, I personally ordered Pork which came with crackling that looked lovely until half way through eating it I noticed that it was full of prickly hairs that hadn't been removed before being cooked. I can assure you I have never come so close to throwing up on my plate. So to conclude, please do not even consider spending your money here... It is a total rip off and doesn't offer anywhere near the service or food quality that their prices suggest that they do. read more

The Crazy Bear do not care about their customers or their personal circumstances. They promise one thing and take it away with the other. During this snowy period I was unable to get my car out as our drive is on a hill, we spent nearly an hour trying to get it out. I called through to the team at Beaconsfield to see if due to the circumstances our vouchers would be honoured, it was confirmed they would. The next day I get an email saying they will Not honouring the conversation that I had with their team member. Awful experience. read more

I recently went to Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield, which is local to where I live, and as expected I loved the atmosphere and environment much lovelier than the original Crazy Bear in Stadhampton, Oxfordshire although I have frequent this establishment many times. I had a superb meal in the English restaurant (there is the Thai option as an alternative) I opted for the lobster and a very nice Sav Blanc, followed by a tart tartin with amazing ice cream. The waiters and waitresses were incredibly attentive and made you feel very welcomed. Don't expect a cheap night out here, our bill came to £126.56 for 2 people. I would definitely go again and recommend that you go if you get a chance. read more

As an LA resident I know what authentic flavorful Thai cuisine should taste like- we have some of the best outside of Thailand. This food tasted more like something you would make at home with jars of Thai sauce from the supermarket. The portions were small and flavor just not special enough to justify the prices. If you consider yourself a fan and lover of Thai food, you will be disappointed. If all of that was not bad enough the restaurant seem to be filled with small flies, we were capturing them with their napkins. Gross. read more

It was alright, we went there for Xmas combined party. They said there would be live music which I didn't see at all. Dancing floor was small, and not many people dance. Also the food was nice but not worth £59. Overall, it's a little bit over priced. All I can say that it's an experience but don't think will go again. read more

The Crazy Bear group have added a hotel and restaurant in Old Beaconsfield. They already have the hotel & restaurant in Oxford and restaruant in London and now this one! It is excellent - we went this week for my birthday and it was a unique experience! Definitely a wow factor! As you walk in, it is like being in Alice in Wonderland - a very funky bar and restaurant. we ate in the english restaurant ( they also have a thai one just afew doors down) and the food , ambience and service was excellent. It is also not that expensivethe bedrooms ( we didn't stay!) are quite pricey at almost £ 300.00 a night at weekends, however the restaurant is averagely priced which makes it accessible for most special occasions or weekend treats. I was a little shocked when I saw low reviews on this place. Our experience was stellar. First we were denied at the door, haha. We didn't know there was a dress code in the evening and apparently tennis shoes are not acceptable. No worries, we Superman'd it in the car and did a quick change. The restaurant and bar were awe inspiring. The decor is incredible. Lots of mounted animal heads decorated with crystal necklaces. They have the most beautiful Moroccan themed room that I would personally want to call my bedroom. They also have an outdoor patio. I was overwhelmed by the amount of seating options that we chose the bar. Which was satisfying. The bartenders were great and we had great conversations. I drank a Prosecco and my hubs got an old fashion (surprise surprise). And he actually thought it was good (which is saying a lot). Always greeted with such warmth and the food is just amazing, highly recommend the Thai restaurant at crazybear for any if not all your special occasions. Well, we didn't actually make it to the hotel but the customer service we've experienced is appalling and I felt it worth writing a review about for others. We had booked a birthday get away but unfortunately we've had really heavy snowfall and it would just be too risky to drive. I didn't see this being a problem, called the hotel over 24 hours in advance to warn them and was given an email address. I've had no reply to the email so called again this morning to be told management have said no rebooking and no refunds! They could not give a number for a manager and did not seem bothered beyond saying the money would still be taken. We do understand but as we all know the weather this week has been exceptional and I would have expected some compassion or understanding. We're very disappointed - even an apology that they couldn't help would have been nice! read more

If you are in the area you just have to call in......THE DECORWELL, I'm not sure 'funky' does it justice, the bar is Bizarre, and good fun, and the Toilets are unusual ,with some very confusing mirrors and open space between the ladies/gents.. you've been warned. I went for lunch, drinks in the bar were served by the waiter, and my tomato juice was superbly presented with a celery tree in it. At lunch we opted for the £10 ,2 course Farm Shop menu, certainly available on weekday lunches, not sure about Saturday. The food was really good, and tasty. It wasn't very busy on the Friday lunch we went to, we were told this is unusual, I'd imagine Friday and saturday nights would have a real buzz. I love the Crazy Bear in Stadhampton so when they opened up a new hotel, bar and restaurant in Beaconsfield, just 10 mins up the road, I was first in line to go and experience it! The decor didn't disappoint but the first meal there at the English restaurant didn't hit the mark at all - our food was cold, the wrong order and the service was slow, slow, slow. However, we then opted to try the Thai restaurant next and were completely blown away. The food was divine and the service was so much better than the other side. We've tried the take-away Thai and the quality was superb, so would highly recommend. I've had lunch there a few times and a couple of girlie evenings out (mid week as you can't get into the bar at weekends without a food reservation). It's expensive, but it's fun and it's always great to take someone who hasn't been before and take them to the toilets!!! It's Crazy - go visit :-) read more

Lets start with the good things. There are two restaurants here, English and Thai and we went to the Thai and I must say the food was excellent. However, they only book for two sittings on a Saturday night (not sure if its the same during the week) and we went for the later one. On arriving the bar was packed and the service for a drink was very slow indeed. We were told three times that our table was ready even before all our party had arrived, i guess to clear the bar area. The Thai dining area is actaully in another building so you have to walk down the road to take your seat. The service was slow in the restaurant in general and our bill at the end was wrong. After a client of mine had such a good experience on a groupon deal at the Crazy Bear Thai restaurant last year, she decided to invite me and a friend for a Christmas lunch this year. As I am researching venues to take my clients on future business lunches, I thought this would be the ideal opportunity to check this place out. Unfortunately our experience was very disappointing from the start. I asked our original server, Octavian if I could possibly substitute my glass of Champagne for a glass of red wine; not an unreasonable request given Champagne is the more expensive of the two. He kindly said he would go and check with the manager. Two minutes later, a lady , I'm assuming to be the manager walks up to the table holding a bottle of Champagne and starts pouring me a glass while telling me that it is not possible for me to have the red wine. The reason being we are on 'the special offer' menu and no changes can be made. So I then requested that I may have a drop of cassis in my Champagne to sweeten it a little. Which, may I say, she charged me £6.50 for at the end. Absolutely despicable! She continued to remind us on several occasions that we had paid for ' the special menu'. She succeeded in her determination to make us feel like second class citizens. The food then started to arrive. While it was nicely presented, the majority of it was absolutely tasteless. When one of the ladies mentioned to Octavian that the food was tasteless, his response was 'well the fish is raw that's how it is.' He had no interest whatsoever in hearing our feedback. Or to offer us some soya sauce etc. to perhaps add some flavour. Luckily towards the end of our meal, a lovely young lady I believe to be called, Sarah came to clear our plates. She was so charming, had a genuinely warm smile, and showed a real interest in what we had to say about our meal and experience. She even went out to buy some soya milk especially for one of the ladies who is lactose intolerant. It is a real shame that she wasn't our original server from the start as I feel our lunch experience may have started off on a much better note. I have never used groupon before, and will most definitely not be using it in the future. Two of the staff made what should have been a very enjoyable lunch, an absolutely awful experience. Working in the customer service industry myself and travelling all over the world and eating at many fine restaurants, I know for a fact that anything is possible, and a little flexibility and kindness can go a long way. Believe me, £30 ( plus 12.5% service charge on top) is not worth the money. There are many fine restaurants around the same area giving good lunch deals for much less than that, serving excellent food and with a courteous smile. read more

Been once about 3 years ago for a birthday lunch and wasn't impressed by the attitude of the staff, or food served uscomplete disaster.

One of the coolest places I have ever been to, pure Miami / Ibiza eccentricity and it certainly attracts some appropriate people too. Going at the busier times just for a drink is unfortunately not as easy as the Oxford one, we were greeted at the door with Do you have a reservation which luckily we did (they give priority at the bar to diners and hotel guests) which is fair enough. The food is excellent in both Thai and English restaurants and whilst it is expensive when you have wine and / or cocktails, it's an experience that is made special by the excellent service and amazing decor + great music. read more

Not happy with the Crazy Bear. My daughter received £50 worth of Gift Vouchers but due to reasons beyond her control was unable to use them before their expiry date. The Crazy Bear have refused to budge and I find it unforgiveable that they have been able to take £50 of someone's hard earned money without actually giving ANY service back. BEWARE this time of year - give cash which does not expire! From what I have seen in other reviews, it doesn't sound like she's missed much anyway. read more
