    Worsh Station

4.5 stars. The Crazy Mason currently has several locations in the U.S., and this particular location in The Waterfront is locally owned and operated. It serves Crazy Shakes, Desserts (e.g., waffles, nachos, and sundaes), and Bombs (ice-cream sandwiches). I was a customer here one time. The cashier promptly greeted me and took my order and payment. The restaurant's dining area had many tables and chairs, and customers took their number and chose where they wanted to sit. The restaurant was not packed with other customers, but I still had to wait a while to receive my Crazy Mason shake. In the meantime I enjoyed the interior design of Pittsburgh bridges and a Worsh Station. I had ordered the flavor "Top of the Morning," which contained strawberry ice cream, strawberry sauce, vanilla frosting, Fruity Pebbles cereal, sugar-pearl waffle, sliced bananas, and whipped topping. It was a large size, and I am sure that it was full of calories and grams of fat and sugar, but it tasted delicious. The price for a shake in a regular plastic cup was ~$14 plus a tip, and the price for a shake in a custom glass mason jar was ~$17 plus a tip.

When I'm awarding stars, I'm judging a place on what it is. Crazy Mason is not a five-star restaurant, it's a fun ice cream novelty shop. And it does what it sets out to do really well. The menu here is enormous. You can get a wide variety of ice cream with toppings, in a bowl or in a milkshake. You can get ice cream sandwiches on cookies. But let's be real, you're here for their crazy mason jar creations. There are a lot of them and they are very over-the-top, with frosting around the rim holding on cookie crumbles or sprinkles, pastries and frosting layered on top of your glass, etc. I was planning to order a peanut butter and chocolate creation and then I saw a Pittsburgh exclusive themed around black and gold and that had to be the winner. It was absolutely delicious, although it is honestly so much at once that I had to take the gob home in a little box. They definitely have a few kinks to work out. The place is new and word-of-mouth is high; I had only a couple of people in line in front of me when we arrived around 6 PM on a Friday evening, but within half an hour they were putting up signs saying there would be a 15 minute wait to place an order (clearly trying to allow the kitchen staff to catch up) and an hour wait for your treats. We waited a good 40 minutes for ours, but never got the sense the staff wasn't trying as hard as they could. It was just a huge crowd. The place is very clean, with what should be lots of seating available most times at tables and around a center bar type area. You can get your creation in a glass mason jar with a custom Pittsburgh theme or save a few dollars and get it in a disposable plastic cup. If you're getting a glass jar there is a neon sign pointing you to the "worsh station" (love it) to wash out your glass and take it home. I had to ask staff for both my box and bag, it might be helpful if those were self service around the wash station. In all the treats here are delightful. The mason jar creations are pretty expensive, I want to say my creation ran around $18 while the simple milkshake ran around $8. Still, this isn't the type of place you come every day. The owners were retired when they decided to take on this business as their next chapter; they are locals and have made this location distinctive to Pittsburgh with touches like bridge murals. They've created something very fun in an excellent location here.

A fun must try new spot! It'll be kind to your instagram feed (so post worthy), your sweet tooth (can you say sugar coma), and to your sense of adventure (how to even choose a combination?!). Downsides, it's not so kind to your wallet, or to the palette of those who love a high quality milkshake, or to those hoping for a quick experience. The aesthetics of the desserts are amazing! You cannot help but grinning to ear to ear. The toppings are also quite tasty. One reviewer suggested shoving all the toppings into the shake and they couldn't have given better advice. The shake itself was pretty bland, almost as if it was built just as a vehicle for the toppings. For the $14 price tag, it was disappointing that both weren't delightful, though the toppings were quite good. An unexpected surprise, the peach cobbler was stand out and yummy, and the plain strawberry shake got five stars. The service needs some work on both speed and friendliness but that may come with time. Overall, if you're seeking a fun experience and a sugar rush, give the Crazy Mason a shot !

Walked in on a Thursday evening and it was fairly busy, we only waited in line a few minutes before being waiting on. The shop has a decent amount of seating: counter/bar seating, 2 tops and more. You place order at the counter and then they give you a number and bring out your order to you. A great selection of speciality shakes and other sweet treats. I'd recommend looking at menu online to see pictures of the shakes bc the milkshake choice is pretty extensive! They are also pricey $14+ in a plastic cup and $17+ in a mason jar you can keep. My son and I shared a shake and we didn't finish it all. It was good but really sweet and a lot! The waffle ok top was warm and delicious. The shake was thickkkk but a little plain, we scraped the toppings off of the cup and mixed into the shake. My advice is go hungry and consider sharing!!!!!

The building is very clean, but somehow antiseptic - I was expecting the interior to be more fun and festive. It was cool being able to see the into the kitchen/assembly area. The milkshakes do look neat, and taste delicious. Although at the price of a meal (or two!) each, I expected them to be physically larger, not just extravagant. The service was okay. People there were whatever. Got our order wrong and we ended up paying $4 for a glass jar which we will probably just throw away if it doesn't break first. But I was very distracted (by things out of the restaurant's control) during the ordering process and didn't notice the misunderstanding until it was too late. The prices definitely seen more in line with something you would find in a major theme park rather than a random shopping center in Pittsburgh

This is an awesome addition to the waterfront. The inside is setup in a really cool way, with a bar type area in the middle. They have a ton of different options, ranging from the basic chocolate milkshakes to some of the more creative milkshakes. I went with the Pittsburgh milkshake, which was a chocolate and yellow cake combo. It looked and tasted incredible.

So tasty! This place is so neat! You get dessert with your dessert! Literally!! The milkshake are manic for sure. I got the "Mint to be" and it was absolutely delicious. I loved the brownie that was on top of the shake! First time here so it was a bit confusing and for a Monday night they were so busy...assuming because it's still new. It did take about 40 minutes to actually get the shake..but again it being a new place will definitely do that. The mason jars are so adorable so I recommend getting that so you have a little souvenir to take home

Not really one to post reviews but this time I will We've been waiting patiently for The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar Pittsburgh to open up and it was worth the wait! Their menu is huge, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The entire place was INCREDIBLY clean. Definitely more of a novelty experience- they do have a mason jar you can get your milkshake in and a washing station where you can rinse it out to take it home if you'd like. It seems like they're working out the kinks as far as opening hours go, so if you're traveling from a bit to get there; call ahead and confirm hours. But really I'm not posting for the milkshakes. I wanted to commend the manager who was working yesterday (6/1). We got there as they were locking the doors (hours were different on fb vs google!) and he let us in to order anyway. We ordered quickly and got our stuff decently fast. As we were leaving, another lady was walking up to the doors (which were now locked) with three small children. The manager told her they were closed but asked what ice cream flavors and toppings they like. A few minutes later he came back out with three individual sundaes (complete with toppings ) for each of them and refused to take money from the lady. Just shows there are still sweet people in the world, and props to the manager who made sure the kids still got a sweet treat yesterday. I will be back just based on customer service alone.

I'd like to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but after 5 days having been opened it still sure seems like they don't know how to run the place. First of all, the cashier was unmanned most of the time we were there. There would be a long line almost going out the door yet no one was taking orders. We waited in line for a while before being told that we could just sit down if we were dining in - something that was not made clear from the start. We then proceeded to wait an hour for our 2 milkshakes to come out. A lady who had ordered after us waited close to 45 minutes to get just an ice cream cone. We could see plenty of staff in the back, and there would be a group of them just standing around and chatting. There did not seem to be any sense of urgency with anything. We saw customers storm out from being so frustrated. We should have just ordered take out because they definitely prioritized those orders. The timing that everything came out was also very inconsistent. We ordered the same time as our friends, and their milkshake came out long before ours did. They were done by the time ours came out. I'll give them an extra star because the milkshake was really delicious; just not an hour wait long delicious. Hopefully they figure out a better system soon. I would recommend maybe coming in a month and ordering take out instead of dining in.

If you're an ice cream or milkshake lover, you must go at least once. It is a bit pricey but it's worth it. The line was looong but they had just opened a few weeks prior and there were customers everywhere. Fun thing to do if you're bored one night and looking for some place to go.

This factory offers a *tour* on certain Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Each tour lasts about 90 minutes and costs $25 per person. The tour includes seeing the factory's machines, tasting ingredients, and receiving a pint of ice cream. Through Millie's website, I purchased two tickets for a tour of the factory. On the day of the tour, my husband and I parked our vehicle in the free parking lot near the building. Inside the factory, the tour guide Quinn asked customers to sign a legal agreement and then gave us hairnets to wear. We started our tour on time. Quinn began the tour by telling the history of the business. Next, we walked through an antibacterial on the floor to clean the outsoles of our shoes. Quinn showed us a bottler machine, and they gave us samples of milk and chocolate milk to taste. This milk came from Twin Brook Dairy Company and was very rich. Quinn explained that Millie's is both a dairy processor and an ice cream manufacturer. Millie's creates ice creams completely from scratch and does not use any premade dairy bases. Then Quinn showed us machines that mix and cook ingredients. Common ingredients for Millie's ice creams are milk, heavy cream, egg yolk for French-style ice creams, salt, and cane sugar. Additional ingredients could include real vanilla, caramel sauce, coffee, beet root powder for color (no artificial colors), responsibly sourced chocolate, etcetera. Millie's pasteurizes these ingredients together, cooking them at approximately 165 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30-35 minutes. Quinn allowed the customers to smell and taste some of these ingredients. Next, Quinn showed us a machine that cools the ice creams and then a machine that is used to package the ice creams. They explained that the machines are cleaned with a hot acid flush and hot water. At the end of the tour, Quinn gave miniature cups of four ice creams-vanilla, best chocolate, coffee, and dairy-free mango--to each customer to taste-test. Then each customer got to select a pint of ice cream to take home.

Street parking behind it wasn't tough. There's a warning on the front door that this is a "takeout" establishment -- but there were plenty of tables. You can totally dine there! If you want alcohol, then definitely get your food to go. This is another place that has sadly gone person-free at the front with an ordering tablet. You lose so much in the lack of warm greeting, lack of assistance with ordering, etc. I don't like this tech trend! Setting that aside, we were able to order fairly easily. We had to fish around in the menu to find descriptions --- the print-outs and overhead menu had no details. The food: I had -- and would recommend -- the Flava Bowl with shrimp. That bowl was so packed, the lid almost didn't fit! Roughly 10 medium-sized sautéed shrimp over rice & peas (you get a choice of that or maduros or rice), with perfectly-cooked plantains & sautéed onions and red peppers. I had them add avocado. A good add, AND --- I sprinkled on some of their house made green hot sauce, a nice citrusy bit of heat. My husband was less high on his dish, the plantain sandwich- aka, the Jibarito with pollo ala plancha. He said it was quite dry, but it got better as he got some of the sauce (not sure what it was). It took 30 minutes to get our food, but the poor guy in the kitchen was totally alone fixing all of these orders (cooking, packing them up)! He was so apologetic; we felt bad for him. Our meal was good, though. The place clearly has a lot of heart. We'll definitely be back. Gotta try the mofongo.
