I went into The Curl Studio apprehensive because I've always gotten curl cuts and left disappointed thinking I threw my money down the drain. I'm new to the Bay Area so I started my quest to find someone to give me a long needed cut after over a year with the pandemic. I requested an appointment and never received a confirmation. I called the number listed and never heard back. I sent two emails and never heard back. I sent a message on instagram and finally got a response. She said my appointment was confirmed. I told her a little about what I wanted and asked if a trial wash and go or a curl lesson was a better fit. I didn't know if each had a different time slot, I wanted my first visit to be longer so we could get a feel for each other and I wanted to be considerate of her time. Then she said she cancelled my appointment and would book a different date to meet my needs. Then she stopped responding. I told her I have surgery coming up so I wanted to book asap for end of November/ December. Then she told me to find somewhere else to go. "If it's this extensive just booking a wash and go I'm not comfortable taking you on as a guest." Which is ridiculous considering we had already booked an appointment and the only reason it was dragged out was her unresponsive, flakey attitude. While I did not get any services from this stylist, I think her handling of this situation shows that she is unlikely to have any respect or regard for your curly hair aspirations. read more

If you have curls, do them a favor and honor them with Denae. I've been to several curl experts and my haircut with Denae is far and away the best I've gotten. I felt like she heard what I wanted and delivered it perfectly. I've never been able to walk out of a salon without being a total frizz ball (even with a great cut and styling. Denae goes above and beyond her job. I am 33 years old and I've struggled with my hair my entire life. Every time I went to get it cut, it looked awful after. Nobody knew how to style it.
