My sister and I just moved to The Current about a month ago, and I felt compelled to share a truthful review of the property to balance out the recent wave of inflatedly positive reviews that I imagine are being solicited by the leasing team. Overall, I would say The Current is above average compared to other complexes in the area. It's pretty well maintained and looks nice from an aesthetic perspective. A big bonus is the sound proofing - we haven't heard a neighbor since we moved in and you can barely hear the city noise because of the well insulated doors and windows. I've seen janitorial hard at work daily which is a plus, especially during COVID times. Security is probably above average as well, at least optically - there are security guards onsite through the night, and you need a key fob to access the floors of the building. I'm not exaggerating when I say something is almost always broken or out of service. There have been frequent water outages due to "damaged pipes." Recently the call box and Parcel Pending service was inoperable. There was an electricity outage earlier this week. As of this morning, the A/C building-wide is inoperable as well. The management does their best to alert everyone of maintenance issues, and maybe some of it is outside their control, but you should expect inconveniences to be a regular thing as there is clearly a pattern. Parking is atrocious. There's no guest parking, and if there were the residents would just abuse and misuse it too. Alleys and throughways are constantly blocked and a lot of times people drive like maniacs. Management is frequently sending out emails regarding improperly parked vehicles or vehicles that have parked in residents' reserved spaces. They threaten to tow, but at worst I've only seen those nasty violation tickets they slap on the car windows. All in all, there are some very good things about this place and the leasing team is mostly pleasant and accommodating - but don't be fooled by all the 5 star comments that make it seem like everything is perfect. read more

We just moved from Huntington Beach to LB and can honestly say we are blown away by The Current. Summer eliminated any stresses that could occur with moving and the professionalism of the front desk security are unparalleled. Joelle, Savon and Antoine are always happy to greet you at the door as well as offer a level of security at night. Coming from The Residences at Pacific City, we believed it would be hard to find "luxury living" that would compare, however, The Current far exceeds Pac City when luxury comes to mind: the maintenance staff is visibly cleaning each morning and are so friendly; the office staff are quick to help with any issues, such as providing storage units or additional parking information and the 24 hour doormen are the cherry on top when it comes to securing your living environment. Extra bonus: The building is dog friendly and you would never know, the hallways never smell and you never see any pet accidents in the hallway nor around the premise of the building! read more

We lived here for about 10 months while we searched for and built a house. Background : we are extremely particular/OCD/clean people and don't do well in apartments. That being said, I still give this apartment 5 stars. Pros: Great view. We lived in one of the penthouse units facing Ocean. Regardless of the new building next door's construction, that view isn't going anywhere. Dog-friendly building. There are always dogs everywhere and the leasing staff keeps treats for them in their offices. There isn't a great place for them to go outside to the bathroom, but I just made a 2-3 block loop a few times a day and my small dogs were fine with that. Sound proof. No where I have ever lived, including houses, has ever had walls this soundproof. We literally never heard a neighbor. Way better than anything I'd ever expect out of an apartment. The only sounds we ever heard came from the front door and not through the walls. We lived near the exit to get to the pool, so sometimes we heard sounds from people coming in and out, but that's all. Lots of closet space and huge bathrooms. All though our floorplan's space was allocated it an odd way, there was plenty of storage space in cabinets and closets. Plus all of the penthouse units come with use of a storage unit on another floor. We had a space on the ground floor that was great for keeping items we didn't use everyday (Christmas décor, extra furniture, etc). Parcel pending and WashBoxLA were excellent services. Parcel pending made sure our packages were secure and held them for us when on vacation. WashBoxLA has boxes in the mail room for sending out dry-cleaning easily. Maintenance staff. Carlos and his team were great. When we had issues, they would always respond within 24 hours (we never had to use the emergency number so this time frame was great for us). Not many issues because this building is relatively new. LOCATION. Living here lets you walk or bike (free bikes to use for residents) to shopping, restaurants, movies, etc. I hardly ever used my car. You can also see the Pride parade and the LB Grand Prix from your porch if you're on the Ocean or Alamitos side or from the 4th and 17th floor common spaces. Safe parking. Basement parking garages with assigned tandem spaces were great. Our unit came with two parking spaces which was all we needed. The parking garage is gated and you can only enter with a key fob. We never had any issues. Community spaces. The 4th and 17th floor had communal spaces that were great to relax in, work-from-home, etc. Always kept really clean. Even after events were held by renters the night before, the cleaning staff would have it back to normal by 7am with no problem. Resident events. Weekly workout classes from a nearby studio that come to the building for free. Free cooking classes once a month. Other similar. Sometimes resident parties at the pool with free food/drink and music. Great balcony in our unit!! Cons: We did have a unit near the exit to the pool doors, so sometimes we would get more noise from incoming/outgoing traffic during events hosted in the clubhouse. However, after complaining to management, they made accommodations for event guests to use the other clubhouse door (which is further from its neighboring apartment) as it's primary door. Also, events were only permitted to last until 10pm, so this was never an issue that disrupted sleeping. During the new neighbor building construction, we had some hot water issues. We were never stuck with completely cold water, however, it was luke-warm on and off for a month and a half. Carlos and the maintenance team were constantly checking on us and trying to make improvements so that our unit would get consistent hot water (we were one of the only units experiencing this issue). Some slight construction noise during daytime hours only. Not major. Other Notes: As with literally anywhere in downtown Long Beach, there is a large transient community. I don't love this about Long Beach in general. However, I always felt safe living in this apartment. Security is in the building at night and does rounds on every floor and around the perimeter of the building often. It's an apartment. Apartment life kind of sucks no matter where you live and I'm definitely grateful to be back in a house in my own space. However, if I had to live in an apartment again for any reason, I'd probably come back here. Overall, a good experience. Be smart, read the lease, ask questions, tour the unit you lease before you lease it (not just one with the same floor plan), have common sense. Take care of the apartment and you'll get your deposit back. Thanks to Chris, Jamie, Lee, Jordan, and Carlos for dealing with us while we lived there. I was requested to deliver to a resident on this complex "The Current". The security guard working 5/20/2021 at 12:30am was extremely rude, and had a disgusting attitude. I knocked on the window to get his attention and he completely ignored me. He opened the door about 2 minutes later and then blindly asked what business I had in this building, told him I needed to access the 4th floor to deliver my customer order, he used his fob key on the elevator and it led me to the wrong floor. Nice try, so I tried to get back on the elevator and it wouldn't allow me on the 4th floor, kept announcing on the speaker stating that it was a restricted floor. To my frustration, I was forced to go back into the lobby and demanded him to let me up again. I went on the elevator again and he yells at me 5 times to get out of the elevator. Then proceeded to tell me that I don't f*cking listen. Excuse me now that angered me and I told him off, your very rude and unprofessional, then starts cussing me and demanded me to get out or I may get arrested. Wow!! I told him off "I had enough of your sassy attitude I'm out of here" and he continues to yell "get out get out" five times in a row. My customer had to come down and get their order. Even my customer knew that man was a complete jerk. read more

I was searching for a spot, and viewed all apartments in Downtown LB. I came across The Current, and I was sold by Raelle. She was courteous and flexible with my crazy schedule. Even after I moved in she continuously dedicates herself to making me feel warm and welcome as I pass through the lobby. She even extends this devotion to my pup, giving her treats and love when we come back from walks. Jamie thinks she's cute in refusing to refund a security deposit. While it is a nominal amount, it is unfortunate the building mgt believes they can get away with charging for normal wear and tear such as paint and shampoo of the carpet etc. They will loose a whole lot more money with this business approach in the long-run merely by poor negative reviews , rather than give their tenant his 5-600 bucks. While It not worth my time or the hassle to file a small claims suit, I thought I'd express my thoughts here. The building MGT even went so far as to accusing me of smoking and threatened to "fine" me only to apologize afterward. See attached pictures. If I were the owner of the building I would keep Jamie merely because she is a good debt collector and argumentative on behalf of her employer. However , if I valued customer satisfaction, I would throw her as far as I could. Heck, I'd even pay her to resign. It was not pleasant living here at all as you can see by the attached photos. Ever since moving to the current almost 2 years ago, my time there has been nothing but outstanding. In particular I have felt that Jamie has always been there for any of my questions, problems, or issues. The location of the Current is perfect, close enough to the beach, downtown, the pike and 2nd street, but far enough from a lot of the noise that each of those places brings. Pictures lie let me tell you that. Looking at The current pics online may look great, but don't be fooled. Security is a joke here. Anyone can get in, many transients have been seen on the floors and opening random rooms (because they leave the show rooms open). Make sure you lock your doors! Transients are seen all over the area be careful. Security at night is often hiding in their car or just not at the desk. Dog owners don't pick up after their dogs. There are no peep holes! I've never seen a home with no peep hole. When someone rings your bell you have no idea knowing who it is. That's the scary part. Also there is no parking at all. And if you park on the wrong spot your car will get towed. This is what happened weekly. Do your research please. read more

Management is the shining star of this property. Jamie, the assistant manager, works tirelessly to improve the resident experience at this building. Since moving here a year ago, management has upgraded the pool furniture, upgraded the callbox to allow guests remote access to elevators, removed the parking garage entry boxes (which were a challenge to navigate around) and replaced them with a fully automated system, and more. Maintenance here is equally fantastic. Every time I have submitted a maintenance request, it was fulfilled within hours rather than days at most rentals. The hallways, common areas, and trash rooms are always spotless. A cleaning crew is here every day tidying up the messes left behind by disrespectful tenants. The pool and fire pit areas are amazing. I'm not a dog owner, but I do wish we had a dog park at this property because all of the sidewalks around the building reek of dog pee. Maintenance is usually outside every morning with a hose spraying down the sidewalks in an attempt to wash away the olfactory atrocities, but it's an uphill battle. I'd hate to know what the smells would be like if no one was out there with a hose. My only frustration with the property itself is the quality of the appliances and finishes. The washer and dryer units are flimsy stackable machines that make a ton of noise. You can't sleep or watch tv with these things running. Don't put any article of clothing with a string in the dryer; you'll be treated to a tangled mess of ruined clothes. The dishwasher is cheap and noisy, there is no ventilation fan in the bathroom, and the cabinets are cheap laminate things that sag on the hinges. Everything works fine (with the exception of the clothes eating dryer monster), but I would expect higher quality finishes for the cost of rent here. All in all, it has been a great experience thanks to proactive management and excellent maintenance. The tenants are generally happy and we've made some great friends along the way. read more

I've been living here a couple of months now. Yes the aesthetics of the building are cool but there are "cracks" on the Inside. People literally have their dogs crap on the elevator and do not pick it up. That's very disgusting. Also, front desk is not welcoming at all. I have noticed that they only speak to people they "like." This was proven as I have a friend who coincidently happens to be my neighbor and they know her by name and are all super friendly when she walks by. When I walk by and speak it's crickets or like pulling teeth. We had a fire on our floor a few months ago and this couple who also lives on my floor was walking in front of me to evacuate the building and the staff were super friendly in letting them know not to go back up to their floor because of the fire but crickets when I walked by. I wouldn't typically complain but when it's this obvious how the staff operates, it's off putting. I will say the security is probably the friendliest. If I were reviewing based on staff alone it would be 5 stars all the way. Jordan, Mike, + Kallyn have been nothing short of amazing during my entire time living here. Pros: The building is new, kept clean, and has great security. They also do a lot of tenant appreciation events which is a really great perk. The cons: Parking is horrendous and the cost of these units just seems way overpriced for what you're getting. If the amenities (internet/cable, package storage, etc) were included it might seem more reasonable. Ultimately I am opting to end my lease early because I am purchasing a home but I would not choose to rent here another year regardless. Lack of parking/priciness just makes it feel like its not great value for your money. read more

I deeply regret leasing a place here. The primary issue is bad management. The building itself is reasonably "OK", but the manager is not tenant-friendly and this makes enjoyment of the building very difficult. During the leasing period they are friendly and helpful, but then they are no longer your advocate. The staff here are "lease-up" people who, in my view, don't really care about your needs as a tenant. There is no concierge or customer service person who is dedicated to helping tenants ... they are lease-up specialists only. The night security people are friendly but work for a different company and receive very little management support. The style of communication by the manager is terse and indifferent ... "brutal" IMO. For instance she recently decided (against prior policy and expectation levels) that no one could keep bikes in their assigned parking areas - an entirely arbitrary and stupid idea. She literally had staff remove violating bikes with bolt-cutters. Who the hell does that? AND they gave no reasonable alternative as to where to keep them - in your apartment, they told me. Virtually every tenant I talk to cannot stand the manager and has a story to relate about how it wrecks the joy of living here they thought they'd have. And each had a different and compelling issue. read more

Unfortunately putting a nice building in a not so nice location, makes you an easy target. Someone attempted to rob me, I ran. The next day he returned with a group of scary dudes (keep in mind Long Beach is notorious for gang affiliation) and was able to stake out for hours waiting without a single employee willing to assist. The next day they returned, searched through the building, past security and a loaded staff at the front desk. Luckily they couldn't find my room, but they searched the floors. Apparently, this continued for a few days, but by that time I had been staying somewhere else for safety. Embarrassed by the security and staffs negligence, we agreed to try and find an appropriate way for early termination. 2 months later I got the bill for $7500. If you're gonna live in Long Beach, I would recommend living closer to Belmont shore. Prices are similar, and it's only a 10 minute drive to downtown. The units are wonderful . Very nice . The parking is horrible . When I moved in I'll the assigned spaces were taken . I was promised a space outside . Which has yet to be available . The security instructed me to park in the guest lot . After working 12 hours . I was woke up at 11:20 pm to move my car to accommodate another resident . After waking up moving my car . I left my key with the remote in the house . The same guard would not let me in to get to my apartment . Thank God for friendly residents . read more

On two separate occasions we have had our unit broken into, with irreplaceable items stolen, and the complete and utter lack of care by higher management has truly shocked us. They have no system to notify you, we have had to file all the reports and reach out several times with minimal response back, and any attempt to be made to deal with the matter in a timely fashion has significant push back. Except for one security guard, all other forms of security at the building are an absolute joke, with no truly effective security surveillance system. The way these incidents have been handled has made me feel unsafe in my own home, which is not how one expects to feel in a "luxury" apartment building. If I had the choice I would not live here again. read more

A great place to call "home". This is my second year living here at the Current and i'm excited! The entire staff always greet you with a smile and are very helpful to our needs. Jamie is more than helpful and is one of the most cheerful people i've ever had the chance to be around! She's super informative. Jordan is a bright ball of energy and is always going above and beyond to make sure all is good with everyone she interacts with. I work in hospitality and i'm positive that they are the epitome of fine customer service. I recently got the opportunity to meet Lee (hope i got his name right) His energy is great and i'm sure he will fit right in! The grounds and facilities are kept clean every day by friendly courteous workers. The workout rooms are open 24//7 and never crowded. The pool area on the 17th floor is lovely with breathtaking views of the city while your grilling food for friends and they enjoy themselves in the lounge area. The 4th floor lounge is awesome with great views of the beach, television, seating and a huge fire pit! I love the convenience of the elevators and underground parking garage. I've been living in Long Beach all my life and have stayed in every part of the city...I've never felt safer anywhere else....a beautiful neighborhood with parks, trails and great local places for happy hour everyday of the week! There are a lot of reviews saying that the management team is awful which is definitely true. I lived here for a year and once Mike left, everything went downhill. He was the only leasing agent that cared. I remember when I signed my lease and Mike was out for a week due to surgery, I could not get an answer from anyone on moving dates, if my application was approved, the manager lost my paperwork. Jamie, "the assistant manager" IS miserable and you never know which mood swing she's on, talking to her is unpredictable, but mostly she was very cold, short, if you bring up a problem she will never admit fault nor come up with a solution, instead will turn it back on you and say you are the problem. She's the reason I did not renew my lease, I don't think I could deal with her for another year. The rest of leasing staff is incompetent and take forever to reply to your emails or are nowhere to be found when you need to speak to them. I rarely needed to talked to them, but the times I needed something or had to get something repaired, they were unavailable. The Pros: The views are beautiful, the best in LB. I liked my unit a lot, great floor plan. Their bedrooms are huge and can fit a king size bed comfortably. Rooftop pool is small, but the common areas are awesome. The Cons: There are a lot of corruption and druggies in and out of the building; there's suspected drug dealer(s) who lives there. I've seen too many sketchy transactions happen. The building is not secured as there are random homeless people trying to get into the building and have been found in open, unlocked apartments. The parking is ridiculous. Only ONE spot per 1 bedroom available. They have a parking lot in front of Starbucks but that's about to be taken away since they are going to start building the next tower. There's been many times my apartment and my floor has reeked of the smell of gas/chemicals and weed. read more

When I first glanced upon this apartment building through web, it seemed almost too good to be true. There must be a catch! But everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Rather, the place was better than it appears in pictures. I sifted 13 different apartments in the area and spend two days in a row to visit them. This was the 11th in sequence and I just stopped and made the decision. I was greeted like a good old friend. The staff provided me with all the information I needed and showed me around. The Current is at perfect location, with very tidy and lovely apartment equipped with everything you need. It's Very easy to get around with public transportation and walking distance to awesome bars and restaurants. There's lots of restaurants and the area is full of life but in the flat itself it's completely quiet. The apartment was walking distance to some tourist attractions. This is definitely the perfect place to stay in Long Beach. I stayed here for almost a year and I must say that I had a great time at this place. Would absolutely recommend to stay there! Manager Chris and Asst Manager Jamie are incredible. They are very accommodating and very quick to respond with any questions. Lee and Jordan are like sunshine, makes you feel refreshed the moment you come across them. They interact and makes you feel at home. The Current has great team managing this property and are always there when you need them. I must say that I made good friends from the Current team. I would rate The Current as one of the nicest, best located, and real value of all the places I have stayed. Buck up THE CURRENT read more

Amazing building and amazing staff. My girlfriend and I were one of the first people to move into the building and love the environment it has become. The amenities are first-class and the location can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful with anything you need and coming from Downtown Los Angeles living, this place is like living in a 5-star hotel near the beach. The new Starbucks downstairs is a huge benefit for you morning coffee fix and the only thing that I could ask for would be a small market for those quick dinner ingredients that you may have forgotten. The neighborhood is perfect, good restaurants and bars near by, and if you like the cute little local boutique vibe, 1st street is as good as it gets. We are very happy here and hope to stay for years to come. read more

If you need something to be done just talk to her and nobody else! She always tries her best and goes above and beyond to solve any issue you may have. The building is also located in a great location with an awesome ocean view. They just remodeled the lobby although the lobby was already nice. I just relocated to Long Beach and leased an apartment at The Current. I wanted a place to live that was on the newer side, with good design, and solid amenities in which The Current Delivered! This place is kept in tip top shape and the location is in a perfect spot. I honestly feel like I'm living in a upscale hotel! The leasing process was fast and hassle free and move in was a breeze. The Management Team here assisted me with setting up package delivery, furniture rental, and internet so it was ready upon my move in. One of my favorite things about living here is the posh community spaces on the 4th and 17th floors. My only complaint is I wish there was a hot tub :( I looked all over Long Beach for an apartment, none of the others could compare. read more
