Staff here aims to please with coffee and water being poured routinely throughout the breakfast. My table had a highlight of orders to include the 2x2x2, Chipotle Benedict, Backwoods Benedict, and my Chicken and Waffle Sammy. Prior to ordering breakfast you must try the beignets! Biscuits and Gravy highly disappointing. The most savory brunch dish you could have imagined somehow came out sweet. When i was asked how my meal was I said just ok. The gravy was disappointing. The waitress stated it's bacon gravy and not sausage gravy. Fun fact, I make bacon gravy and biscuits at home. Bacon gravy is not new to me. The reason for the sweetness she stated because of applewood bacon. Complete disappointment. Yes, I may be a B&G connoisseur but this gravy doesn't even rise to the level of a rating. I have not been to the Greene Lily since it moved location so I was so excited to drop by there this last weekend~ And wow it looks so beautiful inside! Loved the high ceilings, the huge gorgeous wooden bar and that lovely minty color of the walls and how comfy the seating along the walls feel. Our waitress was very nice and sweet with my lil squirmy nephew (who gives the Ghirardelli hot chocolate his whole-hearted approval). And I'm in LOVE with those biscuits and gravy. We were so excited to try this place because the menu looked amazing. The food was such a disappointment. French toast and waffles looked and tasted like they came from a roadside hotel breakfast buffet, half of the potatoes on my egg dish were cold, the hot chocolate clearly came from a packet mixed with water (yet they charged $4.25!) and the ranchero sauce tasted watered down. We paid $90 for a breakfast that was probably one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. The ambiance is lovely but they need to pay more attention to the food. read more

Stopped by recently for breakfast one morning, the place was busy so I sat at the bar since I was solo. Service was slow at best, they gave away or mis sent my breakfast to someone else? Then literally ignored me. My order was simple, avocado toast with fruit and a coffee - then had someone sit beside me ten minutes later and they got their meal a solid ten minutes before me and not until I asked my server at the bar about my food. There was no apology or even an acknowledgement, it was at least obvious to me - my patronage was not valued. Even another customer said something to the server about my meal being overlooked. Crowded on the weekends is an understatement. Even getting a coffee refill was like an act of god. A casual popular eatery with a center isle of tables and chairs with wall of booths and a bar with seats. A high ceiling makes the place very loud to blaring noisy. Maybe it was a bad day? or maybe its just the normal there but it was not worth the time, energy or effort. A single piece of avocado toast with seriously four slices of avo and a cup of coffee took over an hour? My food was okay but overlooked and wrong, ordered fruit and got spuds and its avocado on a piece of toast its not that complicated. Then after getting passed over and having to reask for my food, at almost $20 bucks and its wrong... after an extended wait - the 2 stars is being generous. Was not impressed, felt disregarded and like my eating there was a secondary thought and an inconvenience to my server. What a fun place! It's like a mini vacation from the outside world. The hostess rocked, and my server was a total pro. I ordered an Aperol spritz, and it was like a little taste of heaven. Wow! I absolutely loved this place, which is both historic and new. We started with the mimosa flight. Plenty to share!!! I can't believe I'm saying this - but the ratio of juice to alcohol is a little light. I got the 50-50 and loved it. Both classic Benny and Backwoods Benny. If you are vegan just save your time and go to Witness coffee Roasters!!! We were welcomed by the tweaker sitting on the bench outside. I gave 2 stars bc the server was decent but took them a few mins to acknowledge us when we walked in. It was almost like they wanted us to greet them lol There is horrible signal inside restaurant and no wifi for customers. So we couldn't finish our food bc we had a work call. The vegan options were horrible. I got the avocado toast, it was decent. The coffee tasted bad, they don't have expresso. I couldn't even take it down. Food has been cold 2 out of 3 times that I have been for breakfast. Coffee was cold too. They use bacon instead of sausage for their country gravy, and it was really gross to have wet slimmy pieces of bacon in gravey with my biscuits. I won't be returning. 3 times was not a charm. read more

Walked in around noon this past Sunday. They were busy but had three or four open tables. The server asked if we'd take the high top and sitting in the high top chairs always hurts my back as I had spinal surgery, so I said (politely I thought) "I'd prefer to not do a high top" and he said, as if he were fed up with polite indirectness, "The *answer* is no." Okay then. Then told me to take a table. I don't know what the reason for the snarky rudeness was, maybe he was having a bad day. Maybe he wished he was in New York where people would just be like, "F your high top!" We almost left and I actually wish we had because we paid $65 for overcooked bacon, greasy potatoes, bland French toast (doesn't look like the photo, I make better at home, the description makes it sound delish but it's just bread dipped in egg and milk with no seasonings like nutmeg), orange juice that tasted like it was concentrate, hard scrambled eggs, and tasteless chicken fried pork. We had a girls weekend in Eureka and I introduced my friends to the Greene Lily. They loved it so much we had several meals there. The menu is huge,you can get breakfast or lunch, and they can accommodate people with dietary restrictions. Portions are huge, but they offer half orders. Food is fresh and delicious. I had watermelon, tangerine, strawberry guava, mango, and I forgot the other 2 lol but all were delicious! My entree was a seasonal choice, The Harvest Monte, pumpkin purée brioche French toast with havarti cheese and prosciutto with apple butter. So seasonally delish!!! I recently hosted a pre-wedding brunch for our son and daughter-in-law (and about 35 guests) at the Greene Lily. What a wonderful experience! Working with Charity via email, since we are not local, to coordinate the event was so easy. She went above and beyond in helping me plan our menu, offering suggestions and incorporating my ideas. When we arrived the morning of the event, I was so delightfully surprised. The upstairs venue was just beautifully set up, the food was amazing, and the service was excellent. This place needs less stars. I've eaten here a couple of times for breakfast and lunch and it's always off. I had the country breakfast and it was actually awful. The gravy was sweet, the worst I've ever had, and the biscuits were dry. The eggs were greasy. My friend and I shared a side of pancakes, they were good but they don't have real maple syrup. I had to use that fake crap, disgusting, do better. The food quality is poor and like I said, something with the flavor is always off. The service was nice. As a drizzle embellished the morning, as many morning in Humboldt are, I find myself in front of a brightly purple and light green store front. Upon entering, my mind drifted to an old time that I didn't live. Beautiful high ceilings, a grand chandelier, a not stuff open beautiful feel. The menu is to the point. A few options per category, each wondering if you should get this or that. The polished mirror of the great bar gleaming in the back. I settle on great customer service and an item called "The 50/50" (1/2 Benny, 1/2 BW Benny!) and a Greene Lily Irish, to stout up my morning and perfect the big window gaze I have from my chair. I lazily people watched and within no time my nice server had my coffee, and short after, my food. Pure greatness. The potatoes had so much flavor that I didn't know could be acquainted with breakfast food. Hollandaise that should be put on anything I could get it on. I finished in a flurry because, so good! We stopped by here on a family trip because a Find Gluten Free app said they did a great job of maintaining safety for Celiac people. We were fortunate that we got there when we did, as the place was less than an hour from closing. However, the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful and seated us immediately. My kids were happy; they got chicken strips and a cheese burger, and both were exactly what was offered. I had a chicken fried pork loin, on suggestion from the waitress, with eggs over medium and home fries. It was unusual and unique and I enjoyed it quite a bit. My partner had a vegetarian scramble that was completely gluten free and she had no anxiety at all with her food. That is a great thing for us, especially when travelling. We also splurged and tried out their mimosa selection. They have plenty of options when it comes to their mimosa's, as well as two sizes. They were fabulous; a pomegranate mimosa and a watermelon-strawberry one. If we end up in this town again (unlikely, since we were just passing through at the time), we'd definitely come back here though.
