New stuff includes leather palm work gloves, socks of all varieties (including black- and white- diabetic socks) I picked up some green welder's shirts for $5 a piece, a dozen pairs of work gloves and some work pants. Silverware is available in boxes opposite the cash register. I asked about the piggy banks and they still have 'em, on shelves high overhead on the walls. It's a Sanford-esque Wonderland of bargains. One time I bought some beige coveralls from here so I could be Latka from Taxi for Halloween. And the patch on them just happened to read Kevin. How awesome is that? They also sell gigantic Technicolor piggy banks that they display outside in the warmer months. Those pigs make me happy.

It was only $15 for pairs in oddball colors, just like the last time I was here and bought an orange pair. I was tempted to go for a sky blue pair this time, but decided $40 on a pair of overalls was enough to drop for one day. They had a bunch of funky caps and visors by the front door, like caps with the old Pistons logo or Memphis ABA caps. You can also find socks, t-shirts and drawers here, though you might find them for a better price at Cheap Charlie's. How can you not love a clothing store that has an autographed photo of Ice T to greet you right when you walk in the door? My blood pressure drops when I walk into National Dry Goods, perhaps because I associate it with my personal cloak against uptightness - a good pair of overalls.

This place is very urban, catering to city residents, parents shopping for DPS school uniforms, and community groups buying screen printed items. That said, I was very comfortable there and was assisted by a top notch staff, including the security guy that was wearing an insulated waterproof/windproof Carhartt baseball that has become my favorite item of clothing. I love this place. It is pure Detroit.

Let me paint the picture…read more.. My wife and I were attending a wedding at the Port Authority. We arrived at the Marriott in the Renaissance Center with plenty of time to relax. Since she always takes four hours longer than me to get ready, I took the opportunity to watch TV and have a little rest, deciding that I'd get up at 4:30 pm with plenty of time to get myself ready for the 6 pm wedding as the venue was only about 10 minutes away. At 4:45 pm, I proceeded to put on my dress shirt and, to my shock and disappointment, realized I had packed a tuxedo shirt instead of a normal button down. The shirt I had with me required cufflinks and buttons that were sitting in my closet at home. There was no way I could drive there and back so I decided to look for a place close by that might be able to give me a hand. Knowing that my wife was extremely displeased, but handled it very well, I tried several avenues to remedy this situation, including asking other hotel guests if they had a shirt I could borrow and stopping into nice restaurants in the area to see if the waitstaff had any shirts on hand. When those options failed, I ran the thirteen minute route down Randolph to find Hot Sam's. I arrived at their door at 5:10 pm and the store was alive with people getting measured for suits, people socializing on the loungers around the store, and managers and staff mingling with customers and regulars coming in and out of the store. They saw me as I entered, out of breath and sweating profusely, and asked what my situation was. I told them that I was in jeopardy of both missing a wedding and being killed by my wife, which they immediately smiled, gave me a napkin to dry my brow, and were able to tell the size of my shirt without even getting a measuring tape. The shirt was perfectly priced considering they could have charged me 4 x what I paid to solve the problem. They wished me well and told me they would be here to serve me (and others) for whatever the occasion would be in the future. Within 13 minutes, my emergency was resolved and I was able to causally stroll back to the venue feeling ready to dance the night away. I even beat my wife to the venue. I will definitely be returning to Hot Sam's in the future (once my shin splints heal) when I need to freshen up my wardrobe or find the perfect outfit for a special occasion. Thank you, gentlemen, for taking care of me and being a staple to this community.

Carrying everything from Adidas to Reebok to Nike, Bob's classic Kicks, is on the forefront of the sneaker craze. Set in a lofty building with high ceilings, this store is open, airy, and hip. Open for nearly three years now Bob's has proven that Detroit, especially the Wayne State student body needs a store like this, locally. What I love about Bob's is just because they are the only sneaker store in this specific area, they remain knowledgeable. They truly want to be the best, and provide customers with an unbelievable experience that includes some serious, but friendly sneaker 101'ing. One of the sweatshirts caught my eye - it was black with red lettering that reads "Endure to the end" with a tiger and Detroit, est. 1701. At $60 I thought it was too expensive, so we left. However, as soon as we made it down the block, I decided I really wanted it so we went back! According to their website, "With each purchase, a portion of our proceeds are donated for the purpose of feeding and clothing the homeless in Detroit," which I think is really cool. All of the staff worked so hard to make it a wonderful experience. I am 60 and my body is not what it use to be. Small Rally's store inside the mall…read more Bought a Red Wings pennant, metal signs: Tigers and old school Lions. A Lighted Lions and lighted Tiger's D. Lexi and Nick are helping us. Super friendly and helpful. Not sure why each Rally's doesn't have the same items. Had the first one we went to earlier had the same items, I wouldn't have had to go to two places. It's done. My boyfriend received a lions hoodie that was a size too snug and we were looking around to see if they offered that hoodie at this location. All the employees were very kind and very helpful in our search. Once they realized they indeed carried the hoodie, they called over to the Rally House across the street to have them hold his size since they had it available. Overall great staff and lots of options here for anyone who loves Detroit, sports, and Michigan. We truly appreciated how everyone went the extra mile.
