The Emperor's Chest was phenomenal! All the sides were delicious. Every bite was a delight! Josh, our server knew the lore behind every dish and made excellent recommendations. The restaurant was immaculate and peaceful. We will return!!

Why haven't I tried here sooner?…read more Toasted oaks is located inside of the renaissance hotel located by 12 oaks mall parking lot. There is an entrance for just the restaurant which makes it easier to enter. There is also close parking next to it. I had no wait on a Friday evening, which I'm sure isn't common, but I was also there about1 hour 30 minute - 2 hours to closing so it could be why. I was still given great service and a wonderful cooked dish. I ordered a mocktail (virgin spring in wing) that had was supposed to have smashed strawberries. I barely tasted the strawberry (I did not have some in the drink) as the soda water overpowered everything thing else. I probably should have said something, but I didn't. If I order next time I will. There were many great things on the menu, but I opted for the bone in pork chop. While I waited I did ask if they had bread service and they have corn bread. First I was like "hmmmm idk". Once it came to the table I loved it. I usually don't butter my corn bread, but I tried their butter with it and I enjoyed the pairing. It was perfectly cooked well enough how pork should be, but still tender so it wasn't dry. It had this whiskey sweet fruity glaze over it which was delicious. I would have preferred it on the side, but that's just a personal preference. The green beans weren't soggy, they had a slight crisp to them. A great flavor. I opted out of the loaded baked potato and just got a plain with butter , sour cream and chives. Overall for what I ordered I didn't think the price to be too unreasonable. However, this place can get pricy with other things on the menu. Their menu might also change because I seen photos of this place and those items weren't on the menu. I would come here again for a dinner alone, with my spouse and even with friends.

With these memories in mind, and given that I was shopping in the area, I dropped in for dinner to experience the new restaurant. Early in the evening, the restaurant was filling up with regulars. Servers and guests greeted each other with affection and familiarity. I scanned the menu and noted a few items that I loved from the previous menu. Roast duck. Pork belly. Chef Milos' mushroom soup. However, they now serve a Sunday special, prime rib, a weakness of mine, so I went with that. There's something special about a roast on Sunday, which reminds me of my childhood. To start, I had Caesar salad and Ahi Tuna tartare, cubes of tuna atop a seaweed salad, and wonton crisps. Regrettably, I forgot to ask for anchovies on my salad. However, both were good. The prime rib was slightly over-seasoned and served with creamy mashed potatoes that's even better than mine (okay, Joel Robuchon's mashed potato recipe). The accompanying broccolini was fresh, crunchy, and well-prepared. Service was fine.

We only got 1 out of 3 and that was the conversation since we could hear from each end of the table. Service was slow and didn't inform us what the hold up might be. Was too many tables, slow kitchen, or what? It took a long time for rolls, drinks, food, refills, and bills. Floor manager didn't even check on us or any other server. Besides the scallops and salad, the rest of the food that was ordered was a little salty. The burgers were also dry with a hard bun. Even the calamari appetizer wasn't finished or fought over to take home which our group is famous for. I have always said in my reviews that when the adult drinks menu is longer than the food menu that isn't good. They had plenty of parking and a classy dinning room. I don't think I will be back or many of the group.

He was part of the dance they do every so often so he did "disappear" for a minute but it wasn't his fault, and was back on top of his section as soon as he could be. Instead, we opted for the sirloin and bbq chicken served along side a masterful sweet potato with warm and crusted marshmallows. This was pretty fantastic. We also ordered the smothered chicken with the cream gravy. It was loaded with beefy mushrooms, sautéed onions over grilled chicken. Very satisfying. The cactus blossom was surprisingly good with a very light crunch and not greasy. We had to try the rattlesnake bites. Nice spice and creamy with little jalapeños inside. On this day, they were a bit salty and the salt really competed and overtook the taste. Overall, this meal and the whole experience was very pleasant. We will certainly return because the prices are also reasonable and that is helpful when they still serve up some tasty grub.

The atmosphere was not at all what I was expecting. My husband and I went out for our anniversary and thought this would be a nice steakhouse. We walked in feeling overdressed and had a table with a family including kids watching shows loudly on a phone right next to us. My biggest issue, though, was I ordered a mocktail (I forget the name, but it was an espresso martini made with non-alcoholic spirits) directly from the menu, exactly how it's listed in there, and was brought a regular espresso martini. I took one sip and could tell the difference. When I asked my server if it was in fact the one I ordered, she told me she rung in a regular one. I was 8 months pregnant at the time, so this was not great. While she was very apologetic and corrected the error, this was a big mishap.

They use very tacky fluorescent lit lamps instead of candles at each table which doesn't match the warm lighting throughout the rest of the establishment. This took some getting used to but was not a huge issue. I started with a glass of wine and shrimp cocktail. The large shrimp were about as fresh as you can expect in Michigan and quite good but the house made cocktail sauce was underwhelming and closer to ketchup than a true cocktail sauce with horseradish. I ordered a bowl of mushroom bisque next. While the mushroom bisque had a good flavor, it was overly salty and I had to ask for bread to go along with it. I also needed to drink multiple glasses of water just to finish this soup due to the salt content. My wife had the French onion soup which tasted great but the gruyere cheese was done more than heavily on top. Next I had the Caesar Salad. This had a good tasting Caesar dressing and there was a perfect amount of dressing on each bite. The croutons were excellent but was disappointed with only one and a half small pieces of anchovy on the salad since it was advertised to have it on the menu. The parmesan crisp looked nice on the side but was very stale. So far I was not very impressed, especially for the price, but the Pan-Seared Sea Bass entree completely changed my experience here. The sea bass was cooked perfectly, flaked nicely, and melted like butter in each bite while still maintaining a subtle crisp from the outside sear. The lime artichoke glaze on the sea bass was excellent and the fish paired nicely with the cilantro lime rice and wild mushroom medly. Not pictured is the giant slice of carrot cake we ordered to go that my wife and I very much enjoyed. Our waitress Leya M made the experience great and her service was exceptional, which made up for the coldness of the hostess when we arrived and the host when we left. Overall I could see myself dining here again in the future if staying at the hotel for a special occasion. I would recommend this restaurant, specifically for the sea bass.
