I love that they exist and they have so much that cannot be found or seen anywhere else. I am so happy we have them in Long Beach. All that being said, they have definitely downsized in order to move from their 4th Horseman location to the Arts District location. Cool staff and now they have T-shirts, smaller prints, and other merch at lower price points, so it makes some of the art more accessible if you are not in the market for a larger piece. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Awesome gallery dealing with all art macabre, bizarre, and beautiful. I'd been a fan since their 3rd & Elm days, but their new location behind the 4th Horseman takes everything up to another level! Everything you loved about the old place is more and better here, and it's really a must-visit when you're in downtown Long Beach. The quality of work they show here is really great, and I try to see everything that comes through. Shows change about once a month, so check their Instagram or Facebook to see what's the latest exhibit. Coming into this art gallery made me feel like I was living in a movie. We've all seen it or some rendition of it ...... the haunted castle ! Filled with scary full length oil paintings with eyes that move. Are those eyes moving or somebody watching you!!!! Behind the painting it's a laboratory with the weird smell of formaldehyde and death . Of course things are brewing along with a bunch of other mysterious thing that bump in the night. Welcome to the dark Art Emporium . The vibe is mad scientist. All that's missing is Frankenstein shackled to the table with electricity pulsing through him ( He's a live ) . Shelves filled with vintage medical utensils, taxidermy and just a lot of random creepy stuff. For some reason at this Point I start to tiptoe with a hunchback spine chilling I tell you ! Turn the corner and be prepared to look around at some amazing ART. At this time there featuring velvet art which I am a huge fan of. One in particular that really called my name was of A bullfighter getting killed by the bull . It's a barbaric sport. My whole life I've been collecting bullfighting themed artwork specially from the 50s .I feel I must go back and get that artwork. Don't be scared! Come with an open mind and I guarantee this gallery will fascinate you. The Dark Art Emporium has filled a void that's surprisingly been missing in Long Beach--the first and only gallery of its kind here. The owner shared with me his past experiences of having to travel to LA and other distant cities to collect this style of art, figurines, taxidermic animals, skeletons, and the like. Now, LB folks don't have to travel so far to catch a glimpse or purchase these rare pieces. The owner curates different artists every month and intentionally showcases local talent. If you're all about the spooky, strange and unusual all year long, this art gallery is a must see! Very easy to find in Downtown Long Beach with nearby metered street parking, I spent an hour exploring every nook and cranny of the gallery, dazzled by all the darkness. This is a very cozy and welcoming spot, no admission fee, the only associated cost is if you decide to take a piece of art home. While not a gallery for everyone, as long as you like creativity off the beaten path, it's well worth taking a look. I was absolutely dazzled, if I lived nearby I would be in weekly to see everything new. Incredible paintings, sculptures, prints, even full scale statues made from taxidermy. These artists absolutely make the uncomfortable completely beautiful. I was overjoyed to see affordably priced prints, and went home with two signed Dienzo prints. The fact that they cater to the bargain shopper is a huge plus! You can also find postcards, t-shirts, stickers and keychains, along with high quality art books. There truly is something for every price point. If you're curious, or a fellow lover of the macabre, do not hesitate to visit! If I could give this review 0 stars, I would. I stopped by today with my mom around 4:00pm, when they were supposed to be open, but when we opened the door, it was locked. I called to make sure that they were open and the owner picked up. He said he had something going on at the moment so they would be opening again in about 20-30 minutes. We originally had plans after, but I really wanted to stop by today, so we decided to wait in a nearby coffee shop. After 30 minutes, we walked back to find that the shop was still closed. We decided to wait outside and after another 5ish minutes, the owner came out. He explained that he had to remain closed for an additional 20ish minutes because of something else he had to do. I explained that I really needed to stop by today to take a few pictures of some different pieces. I had an assignment due for one of my classes where we got to pick our favorite art exhibit and write about it. I explained that was my goal and that it would only take a few minutes. The owner snapped back at me with the rudest response I have ever encountered. He looked at us and said "What you didn't say was that you were planning on spending any money. You should have led with that." and walked away to light a cigarette. What he didn't know is that I have been gifted multiple pieces from this shop and look up to it so much. I was also planning to look around to see if i could find a gift for my art teacher as he is one of my favorite professors. I truly love coming here and try to whenever I am in town. I love the unique pieces and can never find anything else like it when I travel. After loving this place and having family members purchase pieces for me for birthdays and different christmas', I can tell you right now that this one experience alone has ruined it all for me. I will never look at the pieces in my room the same. I hope the owner sees this and realizes that never know what someone else is thinking and how much one interaction can affect someone. read more

Dark, spooky, creepy...this macabre setting of an emporium, oddly named the Dark Art Emporium, is such an awesome finding in the East Village Arts District in Long Beach. Trust me, you'll agree with me, if you're into that theme! I discovered this quaint gem during the monthly Long Beach Art Walk tonight. I had decided to check it out, since I have passed by it a few times but was never able to go inside due to either traffic or time constraints. They have it all here-art work, taxidermy, animal and human skulls, paintings and portraits, masks, books, candles and much more. It was quite packed, as it was during the art walk. They have metal playing in the background, which added even more to it's already creepy theme. They have art work displayed by local artists and artists that are also not from the area. They do have them for sale, as well as the other items they have here. Pictures are okay to take. Admittance is free. It is a very small place. To view everything in this place, it would on average take like 15-20 minutes. It took me almost an hour before I walked out. Wow! I'd definitely buy something here, support the local community. It may creep out those who aren't as used to such a theme. But for those who dare to enter, you will not be sorry! This place rocks!!! read more

Seated in the heart of the Long Beach Arts District, The Dark Art Emporium offers morbid artwork that will definitely make your mother question your sanity. Photography, paintings, drawings, creepy dolls, antique medical equipment, coffins, taxidermy, human skulls, wet specimens, bone carvings, Satanic coloring books, and books documenting the love affair between Danzig and Henry Rollins are just some of the things you'll find inside the Dark Art Emporium's four walls. In addition to artwork for purchase, The Dark Art Emporium offers monthly taxidermy classes and provides a space for artists to take part in monthly life drawing events with a macabre twist. If you're not looking to stuff a rat or draw a real life tentacle monster, The Dark Art Emporium hosts holiday themed art events, movie nights, freak shows, and Strange Saturdays.
